I see it is time to teach you about the Canadian Treats And Snacks
Ketchup Chips - potato chips with a salty tomatoey dust on them, they're okay-ish but I prefer all dressed
Poutine - originally just frenchfries with gravy and cheese curds, but now you can get themed poutine (instead of gravy you can now get it with pulled pork, sometimes a taco themed one w ground beef n salsa, chili on top is a common one too)
Nanaimo Bars - A three-layered dessert often sold at bakesales or eaten during christmas. The bottom layer is like a soft cookie with chocolate and coconut (and sometimes nuts), the middle layer is like a custard, and the top layer is a very thin layer of milk chocolate! They're then cut into rectangles or squarwa.
Maple Syrup - tha syrup from tha maple tree, thicker than other syrups (in girlguides, canadian girl scouts, its common to get a clean sheet of snow and roll the snow up on a popsicle stick along with maple syrup to make like a frozen syrup popsicle)
Beaver Tails - fried, airy dough that's in the shape of a beaver tail. Often surved with icing sugar or cinnamon-sugar on top! It's our fair food!
Fry Bread - fry bread is just bread made by frying it in a pan, it can be eaten with sweet foods like honey or jam OR it can be eaten with beef and vegetables. Fry bread has a very complicated history too. If I remember correctly, it was introduced to the Navajo by the colonizers when forcing them to move territories. It kept them from starving, but deprived them of needed nutrients. It's still made today, though i haven't had it myself.
Canada Dry Gingerale - a white pop (or "soda") that's similar to sprite but it's better, it's like the ultimate mixer
Coffee Crisp - a chocolate bar with wafers in it and a slight coffee flavor. In the UK, they have the same thing made by the same company but its called "Toffee Crisp" and its just the same but toffee flavored.
Hawkins Cheezie - similar to cheese puffs but crispier and crunchier and the cheese flavor is overpowering (in a good way some how)
Hawaiian Pizza - This is just pineapple and ham on pizza, which I thought was an American food?
oh these all sound fantastic honestly. and yeah i think hawaiian pizza is an american invention? honestly i don't know lol. i did know that one and a few others, but beaver tail had me completely stumped.

CHEF ILONA: Chicken Pot Pie Poutine
Tumblr media
Grocery store rotisserie chickens. We all have bought one at one time or another. Some of buy them all of the time, and why not? Those chickens are an easy option when you’re in a rush to get a meal on the table, when you’re too tired to cook, and they are a relatively affordable mealtime option.
As a chef, I don’t often rely on a grocery store chicken, but I do enjoy them as a treat every so often. For me though, when I pick up a rotisserie chicken, the chicken serves as a short-cut for a meal I’m craving, but I want to eat it NOW!
Tumblr media
I make tacos, buffalo chicken dip, chicken salad, flautas, or a super creamy alfredo pasta made with fresh noodles from the near by deli section in the grocery store. I would say however, that my favourite thing to make out of a roasted supermarket chicken is a pot base filling. I might use that filling in a premade pie crust that I top with tater tots and cheddar, or stuff them into puff pastry for an unreal pot pie pop tart, or this glorious chicken pot pie poutine.
The sauce comes together in about the same time as it takes to cook up some oven fries. I do recommend waffle fries for this dish; it just holds the sauce and cheese curds in just the right way. If you have an air fryer- definitely cook up the waffle fries (or other frozen potato product of choice) in there.
I use cheese curds for this poutine... I think for this specific dish, it’s a must. To help thicken the sauce there is no cornstarch slurry or a cooked roux of any kind. I rely on the thickeners that are present in a block of cream cheese. I melt the cream cheese into the sauteed mirepoix, and thin it out with whipping cream and chicken stock to get the perfect consistency. I like to season the mixture with summer savory and nutmeg, but if you prefer poultry seasoning, or a simple addition of rosemary and thyme- you do you!
Tumblr media
Rotisserie Chicken Pot Pie Poutine Chef ILona Daniel Serves 4-6
3 cups frozen mirepoix mix, thawed ½ cup butter ¼ teaspoon dried summer savory 1 package cream cheese, cubed 1 sodium free chicken stock tetra pack (3 cups) 2 cups whipping cream 1 tsp nutmeg, ground salt and ground black pepper to taste 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or chopped into cubes 1 cup frozen vegetable medley, thawed 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley Waffle fries- 4 portions, cooked 1 cup cheese curds
Over medium heat in a large saucepan, sautee the mirepoix mix, summer savory in the butter.
Stir in the cream cheese and as it starts to melt, add in cream and stock; bring to a boil.
Stir in chicken, nutmeg, and vegetable medley into the pot and once the mixture is heated through thoroughly, stir in parsley.
Scatter the cheese curds over the freshly cooked waffle fries and cover with pot pie sauce.
Garnish with additional chopped parsley or hot sauce as desired.

new ask game send me a 🌻 and ill just tell you whatever the fuck i want
the other day my friends and I were at a pub quiz and because we won a few weeks previously we cashed in our price (a £50 bar tab) and decided to get some food as well. between three of us we got a huge sharer camembert with crispy bread and cranberry sauce, a bucket of delicious salty fries, and a cheese board with crackers, grapes, and onion marmalade. it was pretty much my idea meal because I love cheese, I love bread, and I love potatoes. honestly it was delicious and there was so much food. and we didn’t have to pay for it, because we won it babes!
I’ve had some amazing cheese-related food experiences so I need to shoutout this place in Camden Town, which is a restaurant just devoted to cheese. it’s called The Cheese Bar and it has so. much. cheese. they have a whole bunch of different cheeses you can sample at request but they also have a ton of dishes that incorporate cheese. grilled cheese sandwiches are their Thing, with loads of different types of cheese as an option, but they also do other dishes too: cheese puffs, fondue, mozzarella sticks, brie, macaroni and cheese, poutine, cheese fries… it’s honestly amazing and if you’re ever in the area please visit because oh my god.
I just really love cheese and I will not rest until I’ve tried it in every possible combination tbh.

Best 12 Restaurants in Austin for Tater Tots
Post from Girl Eats World Leave a comment/read the entire post here
I love tots a tot. In college, I’ve had many meals of just tots and mustard. It’s a mystery to me why I waited this long to go on an Austin tot tour. But I did it. I researched and crowdsourced, and am happy to present to you my list of best 12 restaurants that pay great tribute to the humble potato nugget. There are food trucks, sit-down restaurants, and sports bars in this tot guide. My hope is that there’s a tot out there for everyone!
1. Be More Pacific’s Longanisa Tots
Locations vary, check social media for daily schedule http://www.bemorepacifictruck.com/
The Longanisa (lon-ga-NEE-sa) Tots from Filipino food truck, Be More Pacific was my most unique experience during my tot tour of Austin. Longansia is Filipino pork sausage. According to Be More Pacific’s website, it’s the national sausage of the Philippines. Their Longansia Tots are crispy tater tots topped with melted cheese, crumbled garlicky sweet longanisa pork sausage, and spicy plantain sauce garnished with green onion. The plantain sauce is often called banana sauce. My Filipino bestie has told me about banana sauce but I had yet to experience it until these tots! It tastes like a sweetened ketchup sauce.
Tumblr media
Tot Tip
Tumblr media
: Experience the rest of their menu! I recommend their pancit if you love noodles!
2. Luke’s Inside Out’s Tater Tot Hash
1109 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704 https://www.lukesinsideout.com/
A long side some of Luke’s Inside Out’s delicious brunch entrées you can get a side of his Tater Tot Hash. I’m so happy his tater tot hash led me to his trailer and brunch offerings! I have my eye on his Szechuan Chicken and Waffles with Brie for my next visit.
Tumblr media
Tot Tip
Tumblr media
: Tots are only available during brunch and brunch is only on Sundays!
3. Eastside Tavern’s Brisket and Cheddar Tots
1510 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702 http://www.eastsidetavernaustin.com/
I was tipped off about the brisket cheddar tater tots at East Side Tavern and envisioned tots that are topped with cheese and brisket. To my pleasant surprise, these hand formed tots are actually stuffed with cheddar and brisket! Talk about next level tots! They are served with a chipotle aioli.
4. Brass Tap’s Beer Cheese Tots
10910 Domain Dr #120, Austin, TX 78758 https://www.brasstapbeerbar.com/austin
Can you go wrong with a jalapeño beer cheese? I don’t think so. These handmade tots is sprinkled with crispy bacon and then indulgently smothered with jalapeño beer cheese.
5. Juniper’s Elegant Potato Puffs
2400 E Cesar Chavez St #304, Austin, TX 78702 http://juniperaustin.com
I’m so glad Juniper’s brunch menu isn’t readily available as takeout or every Friday and Saturday night, you’d find me on my couch with 3 orders of their Potato Puffs in my lap as I binge something on Netflix (currently Orange is the New Black)! My long love affair with tater tots definitely plays towards my down home and comfortable palate. That said, I can appreciate a sophisticated spin on this classic comfort snack, and these “potato puffs” are an elegant and velvety whipped version of my down-to-earth favorite.
6. Kung Fu Saloon’s Kimchi Tots
Multiple locations http://www.kungfusaloonaustin.com/
We’ve all enjoyed kimchi fries, but have you had kimchi tots? Kung Fu Saloon does brunch now and on their menu is kimchi tots! It was after trying their kimchi tots that I decided to officially embark on a tot tour. Their tot dish has scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, Korean ribeye, smoky queso, and kimchi.
7. Austin Taco Project Poutine Tater Tots
500 E 4th St, Austin, TX 78701 https://www.austintacoproject.com/
Austin Taco Project in the Downtown Hilton Hotel has a poutine tot appetizer! It features ribeye cap barbacoa, tater tots, fried cheese curd, poblano gravy, and a sunny side up egg. Now you don’t have to decide between Taco Tuesday and Tater Tot Tuesday. They can peacefully coexist!
Tumblr media
Tot Tip
Tumblr media
: They open for dinner starting at 4 pm!
8. Velvet Taco’s Tater Tots
11501 Rock Rose Suite 160, Austin, TX 78758 https://velvettaco.com/
Speaking of tacos and tots coexisitng, another happy place for both tots and tacos, is Velvet Taco. A few years ago I was in Dallas for a weekend and standing in line at Velvet Taco. I said something to my friends about wanting to try their tater tots and the man in front of me turns around and his eyes bugged out and insisted that they’re amazing. People who light up over tater tots are basically my kindred spirits. Hat tip to Patrick from Velvet Taco line. Lucky for us in Austin, Velvet Taco opened up recently in the Domain in Austin! Their specialty are fun tacos inspired by cuisines around the world, and their tots are spot on. They’re topped with goat cheese, smoked cheddar-basil crema, bacon crumbles and a fried egg. I mean, come on.
9. Posse East’s Queso Chili Tots
2900 Duval Street, Austin, TX 78705 http://www.posseeast.com/
The Posse East is a divey classic on the Univeristy of Texas campus. There’s something about eating greasy and gooey queso chili tots in a campus dive. Get a pitcher of beer, order a few orders of the queso chilli tots, and enjoy the patio!
Tumblr media
Tot Tip
Tumblr media
: You can grab jalapeños from their condiment corner.
10. Plucker’s Totchos
Multiple Locations http://www.pluckers.com/
Speaking of campus eats, I hadn’t been to Plucker’s in over ten years when I was a student at UT. In the course of this tot tour, I’ve gone twice in a week and ordered their totchos twice. Chicken, barbecue sauce, cheese, on tots! I’m going to be bold and say it. Totchos are way better than nachos!
Tumblr media
Tot Tip
Tumblr media
: They have a ridiculous Bloody Mary.
11. PS35’s Pizza Tots
1500 N Interstate Hwy 35, Round Rock, TX 78681 https://www.ps35pizza.com/
Two childhood comforts smashed into one awesome hybrid, the Pizza Tots at newly opened PS35 literally got me to put on clothes. I was at home determined to stay in my pajamas when my friend Michelle invited me try the new pizza joint PS35. I politely declined and all she had to say was “but they have tots!”
Tumblr media
Tot Tip
Tumblr media
: The pizza tots are entrée size but the parmesan truffle oil tots are also delectable and less of a commitment!
12. Melted’s Tots for a Good Cause
Locations vary, check their website http://www.meltedtruck.com/
Though Melted’s Sweet Potato Tots and Truffle Aioli are the simplest tots in this round-up, they’re pretty addictive. They also contribute to a great cause as 100 percent of the profits from Melted Truck goes to benefit International Justice Mission.
And there you have it. My tot round-up. Did I miss any of your favorites? Sunday Jan 19
We awoke to slightly rougher seas and a warning in local media that large swells from the north were imminent. Swimming was not advised on all coasts but the south, and even there caution should be exercised. This may have an impact on our Stiletto trip, booked for Tuesday.
We decided top eat in tonight and made a quick trip to Oistins to lay-in supplies. A simple meal of baked chicken breasts was planned and even that proved difficult as there were no breasts for sale. Add gluten-free to the menu for Kati and things got downright challenging.
We planned a trip to North Point for lunch and departed about 11am. We headed straight north and didn’t make a single wrong turn. Traffic was very light, so we made great time. Upon arrival at North Point it was a different story. There directed us to a new overflow parking lot, and we could see work being done to create a third parking lot. On our last visit several years ago, there couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6 cars. Today there were dozens.
We had lunch at the restaurant, which has a magnificent view, but frankly has become a tourist trap. Overpriced and ordinary. No flying fish on the menu, though they offer poutine, of all things. Most of us had a chicken pot pie, topped with puff pastry. It was most likely frozen and not worth the price.
We returned directly to MBV and spent the remainder of the afternoon poolside. Roger and Karen turned up around 5 and the cocktail party ramped up. “Beeker” the parakeet also returned with the sole purpose of causing havoc.
Dinner was chicken pieces baked with either coconut breading or crushed corn flakes. Served with a mango salsa and what we think were sweet potatoes. Karen & Roger joined us for dinner , which was late. We were all in bed by 10:30.

10 Picks For Local Restaurant Week
It’s the most wonderful time of the year again.  For some, that’s Christmas; for foodies, it’s trying a variety of delicious items for a set price.  Yes, Local Restaurant Week is upon us, and we couldn’t be more excited about the wonderful selection!  From new and interesting items, to classics with great drink specials, here are a few of our picks this year!
Coco, 888 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202 Hours: Monday-Thursday 11AM-10PM, Friday 11AM-11PM, Saturday 5-11PM, Sunday 4:30-9PM
Coco is offering a 3 course meal for only, you guessed it, $20.17. The first course for most consists of garden salads, but not at Coco.  You can choose from items like fried brie or sweet pea and pistachio arancini before moving on to their grilled shrimp with creamy manchego polenta or their cassoulet filled with hearty white bean ragout, rich duck sausage, slow roasted pork, pork tenderloin, and a walnut-sage crumb topping just to name a few. Top it all off with the third course, dessert! I say go for the popcorn crunch sundae for a mix of textures and flavors that will leave you wanting more.
Hamburg Brewing Company, 6553 Boston State Road, Hamburg, NY 14075 Hours: Monday-Tuesday 3-10PM, Wednesday-Saturday 12-10PM, Sunday 12-8PM
You get a beer with this deal. I repeat, you get beer! For the small price of $20.17 you’ll get a pint of beer, your choice of sandwich, and a 64oz. growler fill! As if the growler fill wasn’t a cool enough feature, the selection of sandwiches doesn’t disappoint either. Choose from the beef on weck, the salty prosciutto & goat cheese, or caprese.  I’m not a big fan of the upcharge trends, but I’ll admit, some deals are worth it. For $30.17, you can swap the sandwich for a pizza and you’ll receive one brewery tour voucher, along with the beer and growler fill.
Hertel Avenue Poutine and Cream, 1488 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14216 Hours: Sunday-Wednesday 11:30AM-10PM, Thursday 11:30AM-11PM, Friday 11:30AM-11PM, Saturday 11:30AM-11PM
Is there anything better than savory, salty and sweet combos? For $20.17 you can taste two small poutine dishes before enjoying two small scoops of their ice cream, or you can pay $30.17 for three small poutine dishes and three small scoops of their ice cream.  There’s a long list of poutine flavors to choose from like pierogi four cheese, baked potato, general tao, nacho, and more!
Kennedy’s Cove, 9800 Main Street, Clarence, NY 14031 Hours: Monday-Saturday 4PM-10PM and Sunday 3PM-8PM
I’m picky when it comes to steak, and Kennedy’s Cove doesn’t get enough recognition for their tasty cuts at reasonable prices.  The meal for $20.17 includes a baked potato or french fries, soup or salad then your choice of an entree.  The entrees include an 8 oz. filet mignon, a 12 oz. strip steak, or an 8 oz. salmon fillet. Excellent prices for a steakhouse and how can you complain about those portions! You can also get the dinner for two for $50.17.  This includes the baked potatoes or french fries, soups or salads, any two entrées, and two glasses of house wine.
Local Kitchen and Beer Bar, 88 W. Chippewa Street, Buffalo, NY 14202 Hours: Monday-Tuesday 4PM-10PM, Wednesday 4PM-11PM, Thursday-Saturday 4PM-11PM
For just $20.17 at Local, you can choose one app or one dessert with one entrée. Choose from fun appetizers like the queen city oysters (chicken wing dip stuffed fried hash potato balls rolled in crunchy city crust and locals’ remoulade) or the weck rolls (think beef on weck in egg roll form). There are a variety of entrees to choose from like the Busters’ bolognese made with tender bison and ricotta or the harvest quinoa made with maple quinoa pilaf tossed with apples, sweet potato chunks, craisins, onions, walnuts, and grilled chicken.  If you go the sweet route, try the pumpkin cheesecake or the dolce crepe!  Their $30.17 offer is a wonderful deal, too.  You can get a juicy, grilled 14 oz ribeye steak served with grilled veg and golden smashed potatoes.
Mangia Ristorante & Caffe, 4264 N. Buffalo Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127 Hours: Monday-Thursday 11AM-10PM and Friday-Saturday 11AM-11PM
Mangia has been a long time favorite of mine, especially during the colder months, due to their lasagna.  Their food is phenomenal! During Restaurant Week, all bottled house wines are $20.17 and for that price, you can also get a 3 course meal.  You’ll receive a salad, your choice of entree (yes, their original lasagna is an option and I highly recommend it), and a house made cannoli for dessert. Not a big lasagna fan? There’s a chicken dish, a fish dish, and another pasta dish to choose from!
Tappo Restaurant, 338 Ellicott Street, Buffalo, NY 14203 Hours: Monday-Wednesday 5PM-10PM, Thursday 4:30PM-10PM, Friday-Saturday 4:30PM-11PM, Sunday 3PM-9PM
Tappo is known around the city for their fantastic wine deal ($16 for any bottle), but are you ready for their Restaurant Week deal? You’ll receive not one, but two entrées and a bottle of wine for $20.17. Yeah, you read that right! Their entree selection includes some of their popular menu items like their chicken milanese which consists of breaded, fried chicken cutlets with a spinach and arugula salad loaded with shallots, pickled cherry tomatoes, and orange with a lemon gastrique (caramelized sugar with a slight vinegar finish). This can be made gluten or dairy free if needed! You can also go with my personal favorite, their eggplant parmesan made with crispy, fried eggplant topped ricotta & mozzarella cheeses and baked.  This dish is served with spaghetti and their traditional red sauce! Add two tossed salads or a cheese board to share for just $10 more.
This Little Pig, 4401 Transit Road, Williamsville, NY 14221 Hours: Tuesday-Thursday 11AM-9PM, Friday 11AM-10PM, Saturday 4PM-10PM, Sunday 10AM-2PM
The new kid on the block is already mixing things up a bit by stepping away from dinner and highlighting their tasty brunch menu!  Anywhere I can get a Bloody Mary as part of the deal is a winner in my book.  You can choose from a variety of entrees and an extra for $20.17. You’ll also get a complimentary breakfast bread basket for your table to hold you over until your food comes. The entrees include salads like their chopped avocado BLT salad with lettuce, diced tomato, cucumber, crispy bacon, croutons, drizzled with an avocado dressing, pizzas like their Mexican breakfast pizza with egg, stuffed pepper, chorizo, hot and sweet pepper, smoked jalapeño sauce, caramelized onion, smoked mozzarella and cotija cheese, cilantro, radish, and cucumber-avocado salad, and many others!  The extras aren’t super boring like toast.  That list includes items like mimosas, wine, cheesy grits, thick-cut bacon,  mac and cheese, and more.
Webster’s Bistro & Bar, 102 Webster Street, North Tonawanda, NY 14120 Hours: Monday-Thursday 4:30PM-9PM and Friday-Saturday 4:30PM-10PM
Webster’s is by far my favorite French restaurant.  Not only am I always impressed with the food, but you can’t compete with their extremely fair pricing. For restaurant week, you can choose two courses for $20.17, three courses with glass of house wine or beer for $30.17, or all four courses with glass of house wine or beer for $40.17.  Courses include their roasted pumpkin and house sausage soup, salads, entrees like their seared duck breast with spiced beet puree with ginger and sage roasted brussel sprouts with caramelized onions, and the Profiterole for dessert (pâte à choux puff, aka their cream puff with vanilla cream, chocolate sauce and fruit).  If the duck wouldn’t be your first pick, there’s a steak dish, a salmon dish, and a chicken dish available.
Chocolate Bar, 114 W. Chippewa Street, Buffalo, NY 14202 Hours: Monday-Wednesday 11AM-10:30PM, Thursday-Saturday 11AM-12AM, Sunday 4-10:30PM
With new restaurants appearing what seems to be weekly, we need to remember not to forget about the classics.  Chocolate Bar has a wonderful deal featuring 3 courses for $20.17.  You can choose a soup or salad for your first course, an entree, and a dessert.  The entrees include their filet mignon served with roasted potatoes and asparagus, their famous chicken and waffles made with their fried chicken breast and malt battered waffles, mascarpone cheese, honey, berries, & candied pecans, and more like pasta and fresh seafood. I highly recommend topping off your meal with their crème brulee. They’re also offering $5 glasses of wine and $18.95 for a bottle,in addition to the food specials!

Turn Your Thanksgiving Leftovers into Tastitude
Well another Thanksgiving has come and gone and most of us as always have probably gone a little overkill in the portion department. I certainly am one of those people that ends big event meals with leftovers. Part of being a good eats enthusiast and host is not only making sure that all of the evening’s munchables are off the charts delicious but as important is making sure there is sufficient food…and that usually means enough to feed a small army.
This type of party planning typically means that you should have a supply of Ziploc and Tupperware ready to go so you can off load some of your leftovers on willing recipients of after dinner take away but also a game plan to turn some of what’s left into even more Tastitude in the few days following Thanksgiving dinner.
Thanksgiving is for sure one of the most anticipated meals of the year (perhaps second only to Christmas…if its second at all) and while there isn’t much not to love about slow roasted turkeys, hams, whipped potatoes, turnips, rich gravy and decadent dressing after day two you may start craving something else on your dinner plate.
This is where some creative cooking can bring new flavours to the table and let you make use of leftovers while creating new meals that will reduce the risk of suffering from the bland, the blah and the dreaded “Not again…”
Of course some of your standard left over options are always good cards to play in the game of leftovers. Dishes like a hot and hearty turkey soup, terrific thanksgiving sandwiches fully loaded with everything from turkey and cranberry to potatoes and stuffing and potpies made easy with puff pastry are always good go too recipe ideas but you can be as imaginative as you want limited only by your culinary creativity.
Dishes like deep fried Thanksgiving Arancini made of stuffing and loaded with turkey, cheese and potato or tender Thanksgiving perogies filled with the same ingredients. Perhaps appetizers like loaded Thanksgiving potato skins or Thanksgiving poutine. If you fancy some international ethnic eats you may decide to give Thanksgiving Enchiladas a try or even turkey Shawarma with stuffing based Falafel.
Wherever your taste buds lead you this week there is definitely no shortage of delectable and irresistible ways to turn your Thanksgiving leftovers into Tastitude and help to empty your post-holiday refrigerator inventory. Here’s a creative leftover twist on delicious to get you started.
– Chef House
Chef House’s Thanksgiving Samosas
Pastry
3 cups AP flour 1 cup cold butter, cut into 1/2 inch cubes 1/2 cup + 4 tablespoons ice cold water
Filling
1 cup leftover mashed potato 1 cup leftover stuffing 1/2 cup diced leftover turkey 2 tbsp cranberry jelly 1 tsp chopped Coriander 1/2 teaspoon curry powder 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
Egg Wash
1 egg + 1 tbsp milk
In a food processor, add flour. Add 1/2 of the chopped butter and process it until pea size granules form. Add the remaining butter and process again to form pea size chunks.
Sprinkle the ice cold water and process until the mixture is moist. The mixture will still look powdery, but when pressed between your fingers it should retain its shape.
Transfer into a bowl and knead for another 30 seconds. You will see chunks of butter. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. While the dough is resting, prepare the filling.
In a separate bowl add the filling ingredients and combine well by hand. Set aside.
Place a non-stick mat or parchment paper on the counter and lightly dust with flour. Roll the dough into a circle about 1/8th inch thick. Use a 4 inch round shaped cutter to cut circles. Place approximately one over full tablespoon of filling in the center. Bring the other edge together and press the edges with a fork. Place about an inch apart on a sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush generously with egg wash.
Bake in a 400F preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown.

Best of the Fest: What to Get at Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays
The Epcot International Festival of the Holidays is ON!
This annual Epcot Festival just kicked off today and runs through December 30, 2018. And in addition to over a dozen international food booths, guests will be entertained by Holiday Storytellers and the Candlelight Processional, which share cultural traditions for the holidays around the world.
Green Tea ‘Yule’ Log at Festival of the Holidays
Returning this year is Chip & Dale’s Christmas Tree Spree — a festive kid-friendly Scavenger Hunt similar to Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak Scavenger Hunt from the Food and Wine Festival. Only for the holidays, we’re helping Chip & Dale collect ornaments to decorate their Christmas Tree.
And this year, the expanded Peace on Earth holiday version of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth carries additional significance since this is the final holiday season for the IllumiNations nighttime spectacular before it is replaced with an all-new show in 2019.
But our favorite thing about the Festival? It’s the HOLIDAY FOOD BOOTHS! Holiday Kitchens offer enhanced food offerings around Epcot, serving cuisine from around the globe reflecting various cultures and holiday traditions.
CLICK HERE for pictures of EVERY FOOD ITEM AT THE BOOTHS, PLUS prices and menus!
We’ve been eating our way around Epcot to determine the Best of the FEST! And now we’re sharing our favorite food and drinks with you… because we’ve tried them ALL, and we want you to know what you can’t miss at the Epcot Festival of the Holidays!
Bouchée à la Reine Traditionnelle: Turkey and Mushrooms in a Veloute Cream Sauce served in a Light Puff Pastry at Le Marche De Noel Holiday Kitchen
A traditional dish at the French Booth, the Turkey and Mushrooms in a Veloute Cream Sauce served in a Light Puff Pastry should be on your tasting list! The pastry was the best part of this (you can smell it as soon as you walk up to the France booth!), but the filling was savory and delicious as well.
Bouchée à la Reine Traditionnelle
An amazing addition to the Epcot festival!
Whatever dish you choose, be sure to include the Spiced Rum Punch Slush in your order.
Spiced Rum Punch Slush
Mixed with Spiced Rum, Rhum Clement V.S.O.P., Orange and Pineapple Juice with Cinnamon, this specialty cocktail is sweet and tart at the same time. The “spiced rum” isn’t the overwhelming flavor — this is more fruity than spicy.
New Year Celebration Soba at Shi Wasu Holiday Kitchen
DFB’s 2018 pick at this Japanese holiday kitchen is the Buckwheat Soba Noodles in Hot Dashi Soup with Chicken and Spinach.
New Year Celebration Soba
You’ll want to get the Cinnamon Apple Cider made with Plum Wine, Orange Juice with Lemonade and Apples at Shi Wasu as well. We were surprised how much we enjoyed this one.
Cinnamon Apple Cider
Both are solid, seasonal choices!
Potato Dumpling with Mushroom Sauce at Bavaria Holiday Kitchen
The DFB team recommends the Potato Dumpling with Mushroom Sauce at the Bavaria Holiday Kitchen.
Potato Dumpling with Mushroom Sauce
Of course, the cheese fondue is a returning favorite!
Cheese Fondue
Ready for a seasonal sweet?
Black Forest Roulade with Cherry Whipped Cream
Dig into the Black Forest Roulade with Cherry Whipped Cream!
Hand-carved Smoked Ham at American Holiday Table Holiday Kitchen
At the American Holiday Table, we found a sweet and savory Hand-carved Smoked Ham with Green Beans and Sweet Potato Casserole.
Hand-Carved Smoked Ham, Green Beans, and Sweet Potato Casserole
Another returning favorite recommendation from the American Pavilion — Slow-roasted Turkey!
Slow-Roasted Turkey
Served with traditional sides of Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and Cranberry Sauce, this dish delicious.
Warm up with American Heritage Milk Chocolate Gourmet Hot Cocoa.
American Heritage Milk Chocolate Gourmet Hot Cocoa with Wondermade Marshmallows
Made with Wondermade Marshmallows, this cocoa is extra creamy and we could taste what sure seemed like real cocoa!
ALL three are great options for kids, too!
Potato Knish at L’Chaim! Holiday Kitchen
Look for the Potato Knish with Herb Sour Cream at L’Chaim! Holiday Kitchen.
Potato Knish
With dough resembling a cross between a bagel and a pretzel, you’ll want to grab one of these!
Another delicious option — Pastrami on Rye with House-made Pickles and Deli Mustard! This one is only for you if you’re a big deli fan, though. If you didn’t like pastrami before this, the dish won’t make you a believer.
Pastrami on Rye
And we can’t leave this holiday stop without mentioning the Black and White Cookie. This one was thick and cakey, which had our DFB team arguing a bit! Some members thought that a black and white should be thinner and larger, while some remembered their black and white cookie experiences being similar to this cookie — a thicker version with a more cakey texture. Which side do you fall on?
Black and White Cookie
The Black and White Cookie is part of the Holiday Cookie Stroll!
Croissant Doughnut with Eggnog Pastry Cream and Gingersnap Crumbs at Taste Track
Eggnog fans will enjoy the Croissant Doughnut with its sweet and spiced Eggnog Pastry Cream at Taste Track.
Croissant Doughnut with Eggnog Pastry Cream
A super tasty twist on traditional seasonal flavors!
Pork and Vegetable Egg Rolls at Shanghai Holiday Kitchen
Serving Pork and Vegetable Egg Rolls, go ahead and line up at the Shanghai Holiday Kitchen. These are super savory and flavorful — just plain yummy, even if they are pretty standard Chinese take-out egg rolls.
Pork and Vegetable Egg Rolls Inside
The Mongolian Beef Bao Bun with a Fortune Cookie was also one of our favorites this year! The sauce is excellent.
Mongolian Beef Bao Bun and a Fortune Cookie
The returning Celebration Barbecue Pork gets high marks again.
Celebration Barbecue Pork
You’ll definitely feel fortunate while savoring the flavors at Shanghai!
Seared Salmon at Yukon Holiday Kitchen
Yukon Holiday Kitchen serves up Seared Salmon with Crown Maple Whisky Glaze, Parsnip Silk, Apple Chutney, and Hazelnut Croquant.
Seared Salmon with Crown Royal Whiskey Glaze
Enjoy a Canadian favorite!
Returning this year, we still recommend the Traditional French Canadian Tourtiere with Canadian Ketchup.
Canadian Tourtiere with Canadian Ketchup
Wash it all down with the popular Frozen Coffee with Tap 357 Whisky!
Frozen Coffee
Turkey Poutine at Refreshment Port
A full meal, the Turkey poutine at Refreshment Port is served with Sweet Potato Fries, Turkey Gravy, Cranberry Relish, and Crispy Onions.
Turkey Poutine from Refreshment Port
This seasonal poutine was super flavorful.
Warm Caramel Stuffed Salted Pretzel at Refreshment Outpost
The Warm Caramel Stuffed Salted Pretzel with Soft-serve Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce is a DFB 2018 favorite found at Refreshment Outpost.
Warm Caramel Stuffed Salted Pretzel
A sweet and salty treat!
FESTIVAL WINNERS
Enchilada de Pollo con Mole at Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen
Serving festive Mexican cuisine, Las Posadas is our FESTIVAL WINNER for the 2018 Holiday Kitchens at Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays. While all dishes were great, the Enchilada de Pollo con Mole and La Posada Margarita were the stand-outs!
Enchilada de Pollo con Mole
The Chipotle Chicken in a Corn Tortilla is topped with Mole Negro and garnished with Shredded Oaxaca Cheese and Sesame Seeds. Very impressive!
Your festive sips should include the La Posada Margarita.
La Posada Margarita
It’s mixed with Cazadores Blanco Tequila, Horchata-Cinnamon Liqueur, and Agua de Horchata topped with Cinnamon. Christmas in a cup.
Warm Beignets at Sapphire Holiday Kitchen
Our next winner of the 2018 Festival of the Holidays is Sapphire! While all the dishes here are worthy, one of our DFB team members found the “Sfenj” – Warm Beignets — to be the best thing she ate all day.
Sfenj
Cream, Cinnamon Sugar, Toasted Almonds, and Chocolate Sauce add to the sweetness of these beignets.
