@actually-2000-mice submitted: I got some dairy cow isopods recently and I love them so much!!! Ive been getting more into bugs and other lil guys in the last year and they're all just so wonderful!!!!
They are all a delight, yes! Isopods are very cute and very fun. Please tell each one of yours that I love them :)
Porcellio laevis “CA Mix” is a selection of laevis that can be a range of caramel, wildtype-gray, white, piebald, dilute, and various combinations of these. I’m not sure how many single genes are at work, but together they make a lovely colorful culture!
this multicolored mutant strain actually exists in the wild in California as well as parts of the Mediterranean, perhaps the ancestors of the ones introduced to the Americas. my culture probably has a higher rate of funky colors due to being in the hobby for a while
this guy popped up in one of my orange isopod colonies! porcellio laevis is a species that we find here in the uk in our gardens. there's three main strains in captivity which are dairy cow (black and white), orange (guess what they look like) and white (fully white). each strain will have its own mutations within it, but they appear spontaneously and seem to be quite rare. this guy is sporting a spontaneous piebald morph which may be stable enough to pass on. this is interesting to nobody but me but the bug is cute so just appreciate it
THERE ARE EVEN TINIER YOUNGER BABIES TOO.. HOW ARE THEY ALLOWED TO BE THAT SMALL... ALL POSING NEXT TO THEIR FAMILY FOR SIZE COMPARISON TOO IM LITERALLY IN TEARS OVER HOW SMALL THEY ARE
