What's this!? The Doctor has changed into someone else?? I can only imagine what audiences thought was going on when the First Doctor regenerated, but for me this bittersweet end of an era means it's time for the long-awaited ranking of my favorite companions!

Vicki - A girl from the distant future with a sense of adventure to match the Doctor's

Barbara - A teacher from the present day (1963), never confrontational, but secretly the only competent one

Ian - He tries... he runs into danger and always has the worst hiding spots, but he means well and his relationship with Barbara is surprisingly sweet

Dodo - A girl from the present day (1965) with the best fashion sense and unfailing humor, shame she didn't get to do much

Susan - The Doctor's granddaughter, which is fascinating in itself, if only they'd explored it more, she absolutely deserves revenge for being abandoned on a post-Dalek Invasion Earth

Ben - A young sailor from the present day (1966), with a quick wit, and always ready for action, he's surprisingly fun if a bit obnoxious

Polly - She's fun and clever and so far hasn't been able to do more than get kidnapped and be afraid, sadly

Steven - An astronaut from the distant future who spent the past several years in captivity with only a stuffed panda for company, all of which was quickly forgotten in favor of being either aggressive or condescending or both

Am I the only one who doesn't think that 60s era Doctor Who's trend/themes of 'protect women' isnt sexist?

Most of the complaints I see about 60s Who sexism, and the male characters of that era is largely due to the men being like 'girls stay back.' But a) there is nothing inherently sexist about that imo? Men protecting women is the most healthy masculine thing possible. And b) when the women are like 'no lol' the men are like 'okay fine let's go' and respect their decisions on the whole.

Like that isn't sexism? That's just recognising men and women are different?

I swear I'll actually say something of substance about this later, but there's this Short Trip called Balloon Debate that's basically an in-universe fanfic by Sarah Jane where all of the Doctor's televised companions (classic series) have to pick six of themselves to survive while all the others die. They all get a turn to say why they should live. It's batshit insane and I'm obsessed with it now.

Just for fun, anyone who sees this can guess who's chosen to live. The choices are Susan, Ian, Barbara, Vicki, Steven, Dodo, Ben, Polly, Jamie, Victoria, Zoe, Liz, Jo, Sarah Jane, Harry, Leela, Romana I, Romana II, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Turlough, Peri, Mel, and Ace.
