Always // Soonyoung x Reader - bonus part
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DESCRIPTION: When Soonyoung told her he would always be there, he meant it. The days of pining for the girl he had fallen for freshman year had finally paid off.
PAIRING: Soonyoung x Reader
GENRE: A little fluff treat for my team soonyoung girlies out there.
Sorry for making yall cry in right where you left me. <3
(ALWAYS)
Tumblr media
He kept his promise.
That night when he had confessed his feelings to her, he truly meant what he said.
"I'm here. As a friend or whatever you need me to be. I'm here."
Soonyoung didn't care if he was the second choice or the twelveth – he remained by y/n side. He was the first person she called when anything happened; whether it was when Mingyu and her broke it off or when she finally found the sold out bag from Marge Sherwood. Soonyoung was the first to know.
He had become her best friend. Over throwing Jeonghan.
Though, if anyone were to ask y/n, it wasn't the case... Only because Jeonghan would make a scene, claiming that after all the years they have known each other he would be dethroned by someone he had introduced her to.
Many called him a fool for this choice – pining for a girl who was clearly not going to give him the time of day. But Soonyoung didn't care.
Because despite what everyone thought, he wasn't praying for her and Mingyu's downfall so that he could finally get the girl.
As long as she was happy.
He'd get over it one day.
But that was the thing, just when he thought his feelings for her were slowly diminishing, welcoming the idea of possibly dating... there was a glimmer of hope.
"Sorry I'm late, got caught up at the office." He apologized to his friends, taking the only empty seat available.
Next to an intoxicated y/n.
"Catch up!" She messily poured a shot of soju for him, earning hoots and hollers from the other two sat across the table – Jeonghan and Seokmin.
Soonyoung happily took the small glass from the girl's hand with a chuckle – throwing the drink back with ease.
"Okay you need about four more." She began to pour another only to be stopped by Soonyoung's hand. "Boo!!"
"It's only been an hour since you guys got here, how are you all so drunk?" He grabbed the pitcher of beer from the middle of the table.
"We're celebrating the end of a work week." Seokmin snickered.
"That I'll I drink to." He sighed; recalling to the emails, that seemed to never end, that he had to send throughout the week. Not to mention the outburst his team leader had on Tuesday.
To say the week ran him over like a semi-truck was an understatement.
Being part of the corporate world was no joke, each one of them taking turns complaining about their bosses and deadlines in their groupchats.
Who would have thought the real world would be this draining?
It had almost been a weekly ritual for them to meet every Friday for Happy Hour, whether as a semi-complete group or as a whole. It was their own way of tapping back to their hey-days in the midst of their now very grown lives.
"Take my glass." Y/n handed him her empty pint glass as she watched him look for a clean one.
"You're not gonna–"
She shook her head. "I'm getting the burps."
"Do you want another drink? I'll pay."
"They do have ice blended makgeolli." Y/n trailed off, a smile on her face growing – recalling to the menu that was handed to them when they were seated.
It wasn't part of the pub's happy hour menu – the three opting for the bottomless pitcher of beer and four bottle of soju special instead.
But since he had offered... she wasn't going to decline.
Soonyoung called over the waiter, motioning for her to place her order once he arrived at the table.
"One ice blended yogurt makgeolli–"
"Four." He interjected, knowing that the other two would whine about wanting some the minute it arrived at the table.
"Four, please."
"Must be nice having a finance bro as a boyfriend." Jeonghan sighed loudly, earning a laugh from Seokmin. He had been observing the two from across the table as they seemed to be in their own little world. Again.
She and Soonyoung have gotten used to Jeonghan's teasing, paying no mind to his comment. It had been a running joke for him since y/n and Mingyu had broken up – joking any time he caught either Soonyoung or y/n doting on one another.
It was just a joke, anyways.
"Han, please you're scaring the hoes." Soonyoung replied without missing a beat.
"Oh please, y/n is doing enough of that herself." Seokmin laughed.
It was no secret that the two had gotten very close – effortlessly navigating around one another like an old couple. They knew each other better than they knew themselves.
Soonyoung knew what made her tick, her coffee order, her favorite places to shop, and so on.
And she was the same.
Anyone could easily mistake the two as a long term couple, making the jokes from their group so easy to come.
"As if he has any." Y/n rolled her eyes.
"Because you scare them away!" Soonyoung laughed.
One iced blended makgeolli turned into three more and soon the group, aside for Soonyoung, were absolutely wasted; drunkenly singing along to the music that blasted throughout the pub. Earning looks from those sat around them.
"Alright, I think it's time to call it." Soonyoung placed two one hundred bills on the table. "I'm taking y/n home."
"I'm-" Hiccup. "Fine."
"No you're not, come on let's go." He chuckled standing from his seat, grabbing her oversized leather jacket that hung on the back of her chair along with her purse – holding out his hand.
"Boring!!!" Seokmin protested. Slurred to be exact.
He raised his brows at his friend, turning to a more coherent Jeonghan. "Are you guys good to make it home or do I need to call an uber too?"
"No, we're okay." Jeonghan shook his head slowly.
Soonyoung knew they weren't okay, but he was far too worried about the girl who was still sat in her seat – sipping on the watered down drink in front of her.
He nodded, reaching to take the drink from her hand; earning a pout before she took his hand; using it to help her up.
"Whoa." Y/n's eyes grew wide, feeling all the alcohol she had consumed take over her whole body.
Soongyoung stifled a laugh, holding her hand tighter as he felt her sway as she tried to find her balance.
"Request me on zelle if that doesn't cover it." He nodded to the two before exiting the building and straight into the uber he had requested minutes ago.
The second her and Seokmin began passing their make shift soju and spoon mic, he had secretly requested for a ride out of the establishment. He knew if he had waited any longer, y/n would have probably ordered another round for the group.
It was a short ride from the pub to her apartment, the two sitting in the back of the SUV in silence.
Mostly because he knew she was on the verge of throwing up.
Y/n could handle her alcohol pretty well. She just needed to throw up after each night out.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Y/n threw her body on her couch, groaning as her head hit the throw pillow. "I did pretty good. Didn't puke once."
"I'm so proud of you." He chuckled, unzipping her knee high boots. "Want to keep your socks on?"
"Please."
"Water?"
She shook her head. Her stomach was filled to the brim with liquids and she knew that if she took even a sip, she may just burst.
He watched as she remained laying still in a fetal position, admiring her beauty. She wasn't do anything but breathing. Yet somehow, he couldn't help but feel his heart fill with warmth as he scanned her – her hair perfectly framing her face, despite the fact that the curls she spent nearly an hour this morning doing had fallen, her make up was still in it's place, aside from her now faded lipstick. She looked perfect as ever.
Though, he may be biased.
Soonyoung took one last look at her before walking into her room to grab a hoodie from her closet. "Sit up."
He didn't have to ask twice, allowing him to assist her put on the black hoodie. Her favorite piece to wear when she was simply lounging around her apartment or running errands.
His hoodie from the day he rescued her in the rain.
She never did return it.
...And he never asked for it back.
"Maybe I am scaring your hoes away." She hiccuped, her eyes trained on his face as he adjusted the strings.
"I don't have hoes. I was kidding."
Maybe it was the alcohol.
Or maybe it was the close proximity.
But y/n found herself replying. "Good."
"Good?" He raised his brows, absentmindedly tucking the strands that fell in front of her face behind her ears.
She hated when her hair was a mess.
"I don't like sharing."
He felt his heart skip a beat.
Y/n had never vocalized how she felt about him; and up until now, he never though she would ever. Soonyoung began to have some sort of inkling a few months ago that she may have felt the same way he does, but he never wanted to read too much into this.
Y/n had been newly single and maybe she could have just been projecting her old lingering feelings for his best friend towards him.
Besides, she was like this with Jeonghan. At least, that's what he chose to believe.
"You're really drunk." He mumbled.
"Is it so bad that I have feelings for you?"
He felt like the air in his lungs was not enough; unable to fully process her sudden confession of feelings. "N-no. But you're also about eight drinks in."
"Drunk mind is an honest one."
She was right.
As much as he had waited for this moment, which only seemed possible in his dreams, he knew it wasn't right. She was drunk and though he was coherent, he too had a slight buzz.
Soonyoung wanted to be sober when they had this conversation.
"We'll talk about this tomorrow. During breakfast."
"Do you not believe me?" She pressed.
Ninety percent of him does.
The ten percent was his demons, telling him that he would never hold a place in her heart. Not the way Mingyu did.
While he crouched in front of her in silence, trying to silence the voice in his head; he noticed her inching closer – her eyes eyeing his lips. For a split second, he allowed himself to lean in; capturing her lips.
This was their first kiss, and as much as he has been waiting for this – it felt wrong. He didn't picture the first time he kissed the girl he had been in love with for almost six years to be in her living room while she was most likely drunk out of her mind.
Not like this.
It was quick kiss, and god did they both want it to last longer.
"Tomorrow." He breathed, placing a kiss on her forehead. "I promise."
Y/n didn't care to protest anymore, knowing that he wasn't going to change his answer and allowed him to tuck her into bed.
She may be drunk, but she wasn't out of her mind. The alcohol had simply gave her the confidence to finally say what had been plaguing her mind for the past month and half.
A secret she had only disclosed to Jeonghan. Who seemed to be very thrilled of the news – claiming that the reason why he had introduced her to his frat brothers during their freshman year was because he fully expected her to hit it off with Soonyoung.
Not with Mingyu.
He had spent the last month and a half encouraging her to finally let Soonyoung know how she felt. Annoying her to be exact.
Everyone had called that somehow and at some point, she would end up falling for Soonyoung.
She couldn't pin point the exact moment when she began to allow her heart to soften to the idea of possibly seeing a future with her friend.
The one moment in her apartment while she was still dating Mingyu didn't count.
It happened so slowly that y/n did not realize that she began to yearn for his presence. He had become a part of her daily life that when he had gone away for an overseas vacation with his family, she realized how much she had missed having him blowing up her phone with all sorts of random messages and memes.
Not that he wasn't texting her while he was away; no he made sure to keep her updated. Sending her images of the activities they were doing and all the meals was eating – and she was doing the same.
It was just that, due to the time difference and lack of proper cell service, he wasn't able to reply right away.
The minute she caught herself constantly checking her phone, to see if his name had popped up in her notifications, she knew she was done for.
The inevitable had finally come and she was fully welcoming it.
Tumblr media
He knew he didn't have to ask for permission. Especially not if it was Mingyu that ended things.
Yet, there he was, standing at his best friend's apartment door – nervously shifting his weight from one leg to another, debating whether he had made the right choice or not.
Soonyoung's head had been a mess since he left y/n's apartment, unable to complete a single thought.
All except one. He needed to make things right, starting by giving Mingyu a heads up.
If what she had said was true, he wanted to start their relationship properly.
He knew he had already overstepped the rules of the bro code; that line was far in the distance, he could no longer see it. And despite the anger he once felt for his friend, for making the girl he loves cry and breaking her heart, he didn't want to cause any ill feelings that could possibly bring tension to the whole group.
He cared far too much for the twelve boys he had spent all his college days with. A girl nearly ruined their dynamics once, he wasn't going to allow this to happen again.
Especially if he could help it.
He was willing to let go anyways. If Mingyu says no, he'll walk away.
It would be painful as hell, but he didn't care. A simple no and he would do it in a heartbeat.
Finally mustering up the courage to knock on the door, Soonyoung reached up to unbutton another button from his white collared shirt – the sounds of Mingyu's footstep approaching the door all of a sudden made him feel as though the fabric around his neck was constricting him.
"Hey, Hosh." He greeted, almost sounding like a question.
Soonyoung cleared his throat.
Here goes nothing.
"I'm not asking for permission, I think we're too grown for that but– it's been a year and you're okay and she's okay a–and–" He stammered. He was far more nervous than he had expected himself to be.
"Spit it out, dude." Mingyu chuckled.
"I'm going to try it out with y/n." Soonyoung blurted.
Mingyu blinked. "That's it?"
That was not the reaction he expected.
Y/n had always been a touchy subject between the two. Especially after that night at the gym when he nearly landed a fist on Mingyu's face.
The two avoided any topic that involved y/n. Not unless someone else in the group brought it up.
"Well, yeah– you're my best friend and she's your ex–"
Mingyu shook his head. "Like you said. We're adults. Do what makes you happy, man."
He felt like the weight on his shoulder has been lifted, a smile forming on his lips. "Thank you, dude. It really means a lot."
"I guess this is me passing the baton." Mingyu joked. "Don't fuck it up."
"Trust me, I won't." Soonyoung chuckled, feeling at ease that his friend was able to make a joke out of the situation. He was fully prepared for Mingyu to put up a fight, or at least give him a hard time.
But then again, he was dating again; having brought a girl around when they went out as a group for Seungcheol's birthday.
Unlike the previous time Mingyu had done this, he noticed that y/n had barely bat an eye at his actions.
Things had shifted.
War was over.
Tumblr media
Soonyoung had let himself in to her apartment, grateful for the spare key she had given him when she had first moved in.
Just like all his other promises to her, he kept his word and showed up the following day to her place; ready to pick up where they had left off the night before. This time fully sober.
He had felt like he had been floating on cloud nine since last night and was not able to sleep since coming home from Mingyu's apartment. He had gotten the greenlight from both parties and now it was his time to make a move.
Soonyoung had always respected y/n, he could have easily jumped the gun the second she was single but he knew that would have been a dirty move. He knew what his friends and her friends said about him, and he didn't want to prove those rumors true.
Four years with someone was a long time, and he knew there was no way he could erase that. Soonyoung knew that if he did stand a chance in capturing her heart, it would be when y/n was fully healed from all the pain and heartache that her previous relationship has brought her.
And he waited.
Not intentionally.
He enjoyed staying right by her side with no return in his investment.
It just so happened that she managed to fall for him during this time.
He quietly began setting up her small dining table with her favorite breakfast from the restaurant they had become regulars at when they needed to nurse their hangovers.
Cinnamon french toast and lavender iced latte.
He was in the middle of filling the pink vase he had purchased along with the bouquet of white peonies when he heard the hard wood behind him creak – signaling that she had woken up.
"Morning." She croaked, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand.
"No, no. Go back to your room." He turned his head to face her.
"Wha- no!" She laughed, trying to peer over his shoulder to see what he was up to.
"I'm trying to make a grand romantic gesture here." Soonyoung cried, moving his body to hide the flowers.
"Are those flowers?"
"Can't a guy surprise the girl he likes?" He reached to turn the tap off.
"Not when he's making so much noise!"
"I was being quiet!"
"Please, that word is not even in your dictionary. I heard you stub your toe the second you walked in."
"Who puts a fucking cabinet at the entry way!?"
"It's a shoe cabinet and you have been here so many times you still– Oh my god it's so pretty!" She gasped when he fully turned around, walking over to place the vase in the middle of the table.
Soonyoung was taken by surprise when he felt her arms wrap around his waist; feeling her warm body press up against him. It wasn't that he had never hugged her, nor have they never done this before – having been a little too clingy with one another over the past few years.
They've had their fair shares of unconscious cuddling on her couch, hand holding, and lingering hugs.
But this time it was different.
He now knows that her feelings for him was mutual, and somehow he had become very aware of her touch; feeling his cheeks grow hot.
"Thank you." She smiled up at him as he turned his head to meet her gaze.
"Did you mean what you said last night?" He asked.
"Ask one more time, and I'm taking it back."
"I was just making sure so that I could do this." Soonyoung moved his body to face her, leaning down to press a kiss on her lips – smiling instantly when he felt her melt against his touch.
"That was nice."
"We can keep kissing." He said quickly.
Y/n threw her head back and laughed, playfully hitting his chest. "You're dumb."
"You fell for it."
"Yeah, don't make me regret it."
"I'll fill this whole place with flowers, don't threaten me." He shook his finger at her. "You'll be coughing petals until you die."
"I know that was supposed to be romantic, but I'm scared."
Over time, she had learned to keep up with his jokes; almost as if they had become the same person. She had soon become quick to jump along with his bits and humor, at times egging him on.
Seungkwan's worst nightmare.
He rolled his eyes. "You're annoying."
"You fell for it."
"Yeah." He hummed happily. "Let's eat?"
The two happily ate their breakfast, welcoming the new change in the air between them. They have shared meals alone together countless times, this was nothing new.
But the unspoken words that they had yet to discuss had all of a sudden made them feel as though they were two young high schoolers who were left alone with their crush for the very first time.
In the midst of their meal, y/n couldn't help but catch him staring at her – trying her best to calm the butterflies that caused a riot in her stomach. Something that had been happening quiet often in the past month that she had been around him. But of course, this time, they seemed to have multiplied.
"Hey," Soonyoung reached over to place a hand over hers, halting her movement. "I haven't said it in a while but, always okay?"
Always had been their word to each other. It started off as a playful joke, telling each other that they would be there to always be annoying, be the butt of the joke, be there to accompany each other to any mindless errands....
It had been a minute since she had heard him say it, taking her back to the days when she had felt low and he had been there to rescue the day; bringing light into her dark days.
She tilted her head to the side. "Huh?"
"I'm always going to be here."
"I never doubted you one bit."
And it was true.
here hasn't been a day that Soonyoung had missed a call, text, or special day of hers – whether this was something minor like finally finding the Sonny Angel she had been on the hunt for or finally securing a job at the PR company she had been working so hard to interview for.
He had always been there and there was not a single ounce of doubt in her body that he would miss any in the future.
In all the mess going on around in her world, he was her only constant.
"I'm just reassuring you."
"Thank you."

seventeen as a baseball team
current masterlist | fic recs
Tumblr media
Seungcheol: starting catcher, de-facto leader/captain of the team, calls the plays, holds the records for throwing the most outs to second, will absolutely argue with the umpires if he doesn't like the call or if something against the rules is ignored, scary to the other team, but an absolute sweetheart to his teammates
Jeonghan: closing pitcher, enjoys spending his time relaxing in the outfield bullpen sipping on his Powerade, talks smack to the other team's pitchers who are warming up, regularly finds ways to prank his teammates, always participates in the wave, holds the record for quickest strikeout on the team
Joshua: right field, everyone thinks he's normal but is actually constantly talking to himself while he's out on the field, once got caught pretending to strum his bat like a guitar in the dugout and can't live it down, is the first to go and comfort his pitchers if they are having a bad outing and listens to his teammates
Jun: shortstop, slightly unhinged and always moving around during games, always the one goofing off a bit during warmups, loves chasing down runners during a pickle with a smile and it always freaks them out, is known for swinging at the wonkiest pitches and somehow getting a hit out of them
Hoshi: second base, one of the chattiest infielders in the league, if you are on second you WILL be having a conversation with him, but somehow still remains focused enough to hold the team record for second-base pick-offs, keeper of the home run celebration hat, leads the team in celebrations in the dugout
Wonwoo: third base, Mingyu's emotional support third-baseman, one of the strongest throwing arms on the team aside from the pitchers and it SHOWS, one time caught a stray cat that wandered onto the field and adopted it, looks really intense, but everyone knows that he's actually the biggest sweetheart
Woozi: starting pitcher, everyone underestimated him his rookie season before he quickly blew them away with his incredible skill, despite often being called "cute" by his teammates, he is really the brains of the whole operation, basically a secondary coach next to Seungcheol - and everyone listens
Seokmin: relief pitcher, almost always smiling even when throwing the most wicked slider straight to the center, everyone's certain that rainbows follow him when he's called to the mound, is always the first to jump out of the dugout and celebrate a walk-off, and is also the first to cry when they officially make the playoffs
Mingyu: first baseman, his height gives him an edge for those long passes to first, but is also known for tripping while running the bases the most, often used as the face of the team, known for making snacks and sharing them in the dugout with his teammates during the game
Minghao: left field, kind of the enigma of the team, and also the sassiest, regularly taunts people from the dugout, holds the record for Coolest Flying Catch on the team, and is the only one who regularly somersaults out of jumping catches with ease, everyone is scared of him until they hear him giggle
Seungkwan: designated hitter, despite not getting much field time is one of the most well-known players, is regularly on the wall of the dugout yelling both insults and encouragement at his teammates, leads the team in warm-up stretches, and always comes in clutch as the clean-up designated hitter, most beloved on the team
Vernon: relief pitcher, cruising on vibes, sunflower seeds, and chewing gum, regularly has headphones on even though its technically against the rules, weirdest pitching stance but definitely gets the job done, the most expressive when the umpires make calls, especially if its a bad call that goes his way
Dino: center field/utility player, the absolute ace of the team, will succeed in any position but chooses to play center, regularly gets babied by his teammates especially after he makes an inning-saving play, is regularly the player of the week in the league rankings because despite being young, he's got SKILL

CYOTFS MASTERLIST

“Listen Y/N I don’t know what emergency you have that’s so important that you can’t even FaceTime- HOLY SHIT.” Mingyu stops dead in his tracks as he enters Y/N’s living room. The couch where the five of them spend Saturday movie nights was now occupied by a new tenant. He hadn’t quite decided if this guest was welcomed or not and the fact that this man was now sitting on his corner of the couch didn’t help his case. Correction, Merman. By the looks of everyone else’s face he could confirm he wasn’t in fact dreaming about today or the day before.
Y/N could feel the tension in the air. Perhaps she thought, she should take the least, “You guys remember Soonyoung right?”
Y/N could feel the tension in the air. Perhaps she thought, she should take the least, “You guys remember Soonyoung right?”
The man of the hour cautiously stands up on his feet before making his way over. Mingyu hadn’t noticed at first but Soonyoung wore one of Seungcheol’s shirts from volleyball. “It’s great to meet the rest of you again. Thank you for saving my life.” He bows respectfully before gesturing to the couch for them to sit. Hoshi sat quietly at his side not bothering to look at these new faces.
Seokmin instinctively elbows Mingyu, it was unlike the life of the party to be speechless. He manages to cut in “It’s no problem, I’m sure you would’ve done the same if the tables were turned.” He continues to carry on the conversation from beside Soonyoung on the couch. Mingyu makes his way towards the extra coach space on the lazy boy beside the merman but is blocked by the orange haired Mainecoon. The feline quickly laid down with its tail wrapping around itself in comfort. He was never been fond of cats and after an episode between him and his neighbor cat he could confidently say the feeling was mutual. Quietly he opts to occupy the floor instead, trying his best to stretch his long legs across without bumping into the glass coffee table.
Y/N tries to dispel the tension in the room by heading towards the kitchen. “I’ll be right back with some water. Seungkwan and Hansol, do you mind helping out please?”
Y/N tries to dispel the tension in the room by heading towards the kitchen. “I’ll be right back with some water. Seungkwan and Hansol, do you mind helping out please?”
The three of them make their way to the back of the house, Seungkwan looked towards living room to ensure they were out of hearing range. Finally he half whispers and yells into his friend, “What in gods name is he doing here?”
“I’m just as confused as you are.” Y/N turns to her fridge and takes out a blue Brita pitcher, as she continues, “I was bussing home from work and when I got off he was standing in front of the stop in front of my house.”
Hansol in the meantime opens the cupboards for enough glasses for everyone, setting them down on a serving tray kept on the counter close by.
“No I mean. why is he here!” Seungkwan drags the last word out before peeking at the living room.
“He says he has nowhere to go. Something about not being able to go back to the waters for now.” Y/N couldn’t help but pout as she recalled the story he told her. Soonyoung wanted to get away from the responsibilities as the son of a Government official, one of his friends offered him a getaway up on the surface but they never came through. Y/N knew the others wouldn’t have understood so there really wasn’t a point in telling them what was told in confidence. “Besides, he looked like he got hit by a bus when I found him. I couldn’t just leave him.”
“You could’ve.” Hansol mutters under his breath earning him a light smack on the arm from Y/N. With all the glasses filled with water, they started to make their way back only to be stopped.
“If the Government finds out they’ll take him away and punish you for not turning him in.” Mingyu’s voice filled the room like a boom as he stood leaning against the frame of the kitchen leading toward the dining and living room.
“DON'T SNEAK UP ON ME LIKE THAT!” Seungkwan yelled.
Y/N, placed a finger over her lips to quiet him down. This only earned her an eye roll. Mingyu’s face was evident of worry as she answered him “Look I’m just helping him lie low until he can find a safer place to stay.”
“I can’t believe this.” He scoffs before rolling his eyes.
She passes the tray over to Mingyu who easily carries all 6 glasses with ease. He could tell right away she wasn’t going to give up, as she whispering to him, “I don’t want the Government to kill the guy. He’s had it rough.”
Mingyu was the only one who could see how determined she was to protect Soonyoung. Like a little kid trying to heal the wing of a bird that fell down from its nest, he knew he couldn’t convince her with plan conversation. “Well would you rather Seungcheol kill you? Cause that’s probably what’s gonna happen after he finds out!”
“When he finds out what exactly?” A familiar voice causes all four friends to feel a chill go down their necks. The shock was evident on Y/N’s face could say it all as her brother walks through the front doors.

you were pretentious, jeonghan thought. you acted like you were better than everyone else, and he hated that he had yet to find a reason to call you wrong.
he saw you almost every day during the week, between the class you shared on tuesdays and thursdays, and the cafe he worked in that you frequented to study. your demeanor was always polite, but what most people would describe as cold. you had caught his attention the first day of the semester, something about you seemed familiar, but he couldn't place it until he made your coffee the next day. you usually sat in the row in front of him, a few seats over, and he would chew on his cheek and wonder how you could sit back in your chair, arms crossed and eyes hardly opened, but still get the highest essay scores in the class. at the end of lecture, after he was done spending all his brain power stewing about your ability to succeed in visual culture without really trying, he would text his friend that took the class last quarter and ask, panic stricken, if he still had his notes, the irony of the situation completely lost on him.
at the cafe, you would come in, order an americano, and sit yourself in a well lit corner to work on your classes for a few hours, the coffee mostly undisturbed on the table beside your favorite armchair, then leave. there was never a smile on your face, and you were always alone. jeonghan watched the ice in your americano melt, watering down the coffee he made. maybe he had let the shots of espresso sit too long before saving them. maybe he let them burn on purpose just to see the face you made. but alas, you hadn't even put the metal straw to your lips. he wondered why you even ordered a coffee if you weren’t going to reap the benefit.
joshua spotted him leaning against the counter as he came out of the kitchen and laughed, setting down the freshly washed milk pitchers. “ask them out.”
he stood up straight. “why?”
“why not? you clearly like them.”
“i really don’t,” jeonghan laughed. “you’re crazy for thinking i do.”
joshua rolled his eyes. “no one spends as much time as you do staring at another person if they don’t find them at least a little attractive. have you ever even talked to them? outside of taking their order?”
he hesitated. “no?”
“so what if they’re actually really wonderful and you have a lot in common?”
“as if.”
“wow,” joshua said, leaning against the counter. “i can’t believe yoon jeonghan is afraid to talk to his crush.”
jeonghan shoved his friend's shoulder, giving him a look. “absolutely not. i'm 99% sure they're a pretentious asshole.”
he crossed his arms. “what does that make you?”
“shut up.”
“whatever, han. i’m just saying it’s kind of pretentious to hate someone solely because they don’t smile wide enough for you when they’re saying thanks.”
“it’s not that hard!” jeonghan said, maybe a little too loud. “i don’t wanna smile either, shua! but i do it! so can they!!”
joshua laughed. “lower your voice and go say hi, you freak.”
much to his chagrin, jeonghan got shoved towards your spot in the cafe with the front of the tables needing to get wiped down. he looked at joshua and seokmin with a furrowed brow as he wrung the towel, both of them giving him thumbs ups with wide grins. begrudgingly, he slowly made his way over to you.
“hey,” jeonghan said, doing his best to project something other than the absolute turmoil going on inside his head. you looked up from your textbook, pulling the earbud out of your ear. “why don’t you drink the coffee?”
you furrowed your brow and looked at your untouched americano. “i- uh, what?”
“you never drink the coffee,” he repeated, nodding at the glass. “why do you get it anyways?”
you blinked up at him. “are you offended that i’m not drinking your coffee?”
he almost laughed at the look of disbelief you were giving him. “no, i just don’t get why you waste the money here if you don’t even need the caffeine.”
“it’s cheaper to buy an americano than it is to rent a stall at a study cafe,” you said, habitually hitting save on your notes document. “why are you so worried about me, yoon jeonghan?”
he faltered, surprised. “you know me?”
“nametag,” you didn't miss a beat, pointing at his chest and giggling. “do you know me?”
jeonghan’s lip twitched, feeling almost embarrassed by not thinking of his own nametag, and definitely not an involuntary reaction to seeing you smile for the first time. “uh, yeah. we have a class together,” he said as casually as possible as he folded the washcloth in his hands. “visual culture.”
you nodded, looking into space for a moment. “hmm. weren’t you also in child psych with professor moon last winter?”
he blinked back at you. “yeah? you were in that class?”
you nodded, holding in a laugh. “yeah, yoon jeonghan. i was. head in the clouds?”
for some reason, the way you said his full name made his ears heat up. “maybe you were easy to forget,” he said dismissively, even though you both knew that wasn't the case. “isn’t it better to study in a library? that one’s free.”
“there’s never any open tables at the library,” you said, unfurling your legs and sitting straight, textbook in your lap. “and the chairs are uncomfortable, unlike this armchair. and people usually don’t bother me here.”
jeonghan sighed. “well, if you’re insistent on going to a cafe, there’s one down the street with a better espresso bean and it’s less busy. less people to bother you and a better tasting americano that you won’t drink.”
you cocked your head, closing your laptop. “is that an invitation?”
and for the first time, you saw jeonghan stutter. “n-no? just a suggestion. i think it’s cheaper, too-”
“don’t you work here?” you asked, eyes shining. “shouldn’t you be happy i’m wasting my money here?”
he eyed you, beginning to turn his body to leave the conversation. “do whatever you want. i’m not your dad.”
you grinned, leaning forward in your chair. “are you busy after class tomorrow?”
“why?”
“i need you to show me where this cafe is.”
jeonghan sighed. “can’t you just look it up? cafe nomu.” he wrote the characters with his finger in the air. “no-mu. use naver.”
“i get lost easily,” you said, standing up. jeonghan wondered if you were telling the truth. “we can go together?”
jeonghan watched you pack up your things, confused. “why?”
you paused, looking at him. “why not?”
he was getting real sick of people asking him why not.
“did i drive you away?” he asked instead, nodding at your now packed bag.
“no, i was headed out soon anyways.” you swung the bag over your shoulder and picked up the untouched americano. “do you want this?”
jeonghan couldn’t help but scoff as you handed him the glass that had been the subject of his staring all afternoon. “you can't be serious.”
you grinned and patted his shoulder. “i’m y/n, by the way. i’ll see you in class?”
he squinted at you as you walked away, suddenly confused by the quick succession of questions you had thrown back and forth. you were cute, sure, and his distaste for you was misplaced, perhaps, but he couldn't help the annoyance that bubbled up in him as you sauntered out of the cafe like you had won a debate. he walked back to the counter and set down the americano, an excited seokmin waiting for him.
“so?” he grabbed the glass and dumped it in the sink behind the counter. “how’d it go?”
jeonghan looked at the door you had left out of. “i think i just got asked out.”
“what?” seokmin’s hands made fists in front of him while he grinned. “y/n did? are you serious? you said yes, right?”
“not really,” he replied, looking back at the younger and exhaling deeply. “but i don’t think i can avoid it.”
you had known of yoon jeonghan for a while. a class here and there, a few mutual friends, and of course at the cafe. but the night you learned his name really stuck out to you, when he had been singing at a karaoke bar right after finals last quarter.
it was common to celebrate the end of finals week with partying and drinking, and your friends had invited you out to barhop until the sun came up. you started at a dance club, had way too much rum at a hula themed place, took tequila shots at a gay bar, then landed at a karaoke bar with a can of beer in your fist and a grin on your face. your friends liked to sing, so you had fun encouraging them to get on the slightly raised stage and show their chops.
“no, no, no,” mingyu said, grabbing your hands as you tried to push him towards the dj. “no way, i recognize the names on the list. there’s real singers here.”
you looked at the screen that displayed the queue. “what do you mean? who?”
“that guy,” mingyu said, pointing at the screen easily, despite you having to crane your neck to even view it. “no way. he’s in jihoon’s band, i’m not following that guy.”
“hangguk’s angel yoon jeonghan,” you read, squinting. “sounds like a pretentious asshole.”
mingyu laughed. “wait til you hear his voice, you’ll see how he got the name.”
"y/n's right," jun interjected, leaning heavily against the standing table your quad squad had claimed, pouring more soju for himself and whoever would claim the other glass. "he is a pretentious asshole."
you pointed at him, brows raised at mingyu. "jun is never wrong."
mingyu rolled his eyes. "pretentious assholes can still sound like angels."
“where the fuck have you been,” you asked, startled by your third and final friend suddenly appearing beside you.
“around,” vernon said, sipping at the nondescript brown liquid in his glass through a bright pink straw. he laughed when you quirked an eyebrow at him. “soonyoung’s here with his posse, he caught me while i was getting another drink.”
“see!” mingyu shook your shoulder, nearly choking after downing jun’s companion shot. “i told you! jihoon’s band.”
you whacked his bicep. “who cares? just go queue a rap song or something, you pussy.”
the singers cycled through and you cheered on many of your fellow drunk university students as they sang with no remorse. jun dragged you onto the tiny dancefloor and forced you to help him hype up soonyoung - his dance team captain - as he screamed along to hurricane. then one of vernon's friends performed a near flawless rendition of shake it by sistar after yelling something about bringing the summer to this cold winter night, earning him a cheering and dancing crowd, and you had known far more of the choreo than you had thought. mingyu was whooping and hollering at you playfully every time you threw your ass out to the song, and he only got louder when jun and vernon did their best to follow along with you, and you had almost forgotten about the name that everyone insisted was to be feared.
“that guy?” you asked, the self-proclaimed angel stepping onto the stage. you recognized him immediately. “that’s my barista.”
mingyu made a noise that almost resembled whistling, if he had been capable of doing so. “i should start studying with you next quarter.”
and when he sang, it clicked. despite the tonal difference, you couldn't help but become enthralled by his voice. gyu was right. pretentious assholes could still sound like angels, and perhaps that was by design.
his voice drifted through your head again when you noticed him in your visual culture class, seated and giggling at his phone on the first day of the quarter.
"you have another class with him?" mingyu groaned a week later, walking beside you. "why you? why aren’t there hot guys in my major?"
"because pre-med kids are too busy to be hot."
he gave you a look. "damn, okay. like, you're not wrong, but damn."
you rolled your eyes. "don't act like you don't love being the pre-med heartthrob. you would be pissed if you had competition."
"anyways, are you gonna ask him out?"
you pause at the stop light to wait for your turn to cross, turning towards him. "why would i do that?"
“because he’s hangguk’s angel yoon jeong-honey voice,” mingyu said, moving his head as he dramatically pronounced each syllable in your face. “if you’re not already in love with him, you will be soon, and it sounds like fate's trying to bring you together. didn’t you say he’s your barista?”
you rolled your eyes. “yeah, and his americanos suck now. i don’t even drink it when he makes them anymore.”
he looked at you with a cocked eyebrow. “what the hell? why do you still go there, then?”
you pouted. “it’s quiet and there’s a comfy armchair.”
weeks passed, and you continued to spot jeonghan in your class when you arrived, hearing the faint sound of his singing voice in your head. when he took your order at the cafe, he had a vague snottiness to his voice, and while you absolutely believed that this was the same person as the one you saw sing a soft love ballad with a sobering intensity at two in the morning, you still struggled to connect it to the one you watched run off the stage, immediately curling into himself and laughing with his friends in embarrassment.
you became more and more fascinated by yoon jeonghan as time passed, but his americanos continued to suck. so when he suggested a cafe with better espresso, you lit up. and when he got flustered, letting down his guard unintentionally, you lit up even more. that was the drunk, embarrassed boy you had seen, pink faced and giggling as he hid behind his friends.
jeonghan sat in his usual seat in class, anxiously glancing up at the door every time a group of people entered the lecture hall. when you arrived, your usual minute before the turn of the hour, he rubbed his palms against his sweats. the sweats that he had worn with the specific intention of making sure you didn't think he was trying too hard to look nice around you. despite that fact, part of him still felt annoyed that you were also dressed down, swimming in a hoodie several sizes too big for you. he tried to make sense of the sudden nerves he had, but not once did he consider they were because he thought you were disgustingly adorable.
instead of taking your usual spot, you marched right up to jeonghan’s table and grinned. “is this seat taken?”
he blinked at you. “yes.”
you laughed and slid into the seat beside him anyways, ignoring the dagger stare from a girl across the room that usually sat beside jeonghan silently. “you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“how do you expect me to react? you’ve never even smiled at me before yesterday.”
shrugging, you put your bag on the table and leaned back in your seat, assuming your usual position for this particular class. “you didn’t deserve it before yesterday.”
jeonghan wanted to argue with you, but the professor cleared his throat and introduced the subject of the lecture.
after only ten minutes, jeonghan could have sworn he heard you snoring. he poked your shoulder with his pen.
you looked over at him, eyebrow quirked. you mouthed a “what” at him.
he exhaled suddenly, mouth forming a vague smile more in disbelief than from being entertained. he seemed annoyed with you, despite the fact that he was the one interrupting your allocated meditation time. he leaned forward, turning his body towards you and spoke in a hushed tone. “how can you do that every day and still be top of the class?”
you mirrored his body language, leaning forward over the desk and resting your cheek on a fist, speaking in the same hushed tone. “visual culture is subjective. as long as you understand the concept; i-e, how we as humans visually design the world around us and how that becomes an important aspect of our place in nature, in the universe, in existence, etcetera; then you can write about literally anything. my last essay was about skate parks. the more opinionated the essay, the better score you get.” you pointed a finger at the man speaking at the front of the class. “i watched the prof’s ted talk before the quarter started - every lecture is just a regurgitation of the same concepts. it’s an easy a, as long as you have strong opinions.”
jeonghan stared at you for what felt like an eternity. “you do seem like you have strong opinions.”
“and you don’t, yoon jeonghan?”
he supposed he couldn’t argue with that, but it still frustrated him to no end that you had found some kind of loophole that he had missed. you gamed the system better than he could, and he had been stuck pouring over his friend’s notes from the previous quarter and bullshitting some essays about architecture that he didn't give a shit about. and so, instead of spending his whole class stewing like he normally did, he decided to waste no time adopting your approach, pulling his sweatshirt hood over his head and catching up on some missed sleep. when he woke up again, it was to your prodding finger.
“what time is it,” he said immediately, squinting at his surroundings. he suddenly remembered he was in class as he saw fellow students packing up their things and filing out. he looked at you, blinking at your grinning face.
“time for coffee,” you said, tugging on the drawstrings of the light blue hoodie he wore. “did you have any sweet dreams?”
jeonghan shoved his blank notebook into the tote bag he used for classes and stood. “of course not.”
“i did,” you said, throwing your bag over your shoulder and following him down the hall steps. “i dreamt you paid at the cafe.”
he turned, eyeing your shiteating grin from behind his hood. “yeah, keep dreaming.”
“worth a shot,” you said, trotting down beside him. “so, what’s your major, yoon jeonghan?”
he rolled his eyes, almost forgetting about your habit of calling him by his full name. “do you really care?”
“what else are we gonna talk about, my drinking problem?”
despite himself, jeonghan laughed, looking over at you as you left the lecture hall. “maybe! how bad is it?”
you grinned, feeling successful from making him break his serious persona. “wouldn’t you like to know.”
he clicked his tongue, pushing open the doors of the social studies building. “no fun.”
“you’ll have to invite me to a bar next time,” you said, following after him out the door into the sunshine that cascaded over the quad. it was a beautiful spring day, but a bit chilly, and you shoved your hands into your sweatshirt pocket.
“hmm,” jeonghan said, letting his blue hood fall off his head as he stretched in the sun. “i only really go to one bar.”
you watched him bask for a moment, wondering how many sides of him you had yet to see. his hair was dark, but the lighter chocolate tones reflected in the sun. “bet i can guess which one.”
jeonghan paused on the sidewalk, making you walk ahead of him a couple steps before you turned towards him questioningly. “okay, yeah. guess. you won’t get it.”
you size him up a moment, taking his words as a challenge. “if i guess right, you buy coffee?”
he exhaled, an amused smile on his face. “why are you so obsessed with me buying you coffee?”
“it tastes better free.”
“okay, fine. but if you’re wrong, you buy.”
you groaned. “do you know how many bars are in this city? that doesn’t seem fair.”
jeonghan resumed walking, gesturing for you to guess. “i’ll give you three tries.”
you chewed your cheek, trying to conceal your sly grin. “okay, three tries. deal?”
he nodded. you made it way too easy for him to win. “deal.”
“let me think.” jeonghan watched your feet fall easily into step beside him. “what bar has a stupid gimmick you would be into... pie bar?”
he shook his head, almost laughing at your teasing. “i’ve been there before, but it's not really my thing.”
you exhaled sharply. “shouldn’t that count for a stick of gum or something?” jeonghan laughed, insisting that this was an all or nothing situation. “then i give up.”
“you can’t give up!” jeonghan said. “you said deal. no going back.”
“fine," you pouted. "why can't i remember any bar names? uhh, r place?”
he stopped. “the gay club?”
you stopped, looking at him expectantly. “well?”
jeonghan laughed as he walked again. “no, not r place. jesus. you have one last chance. i’m really excited to order something expensive today.”
you chewed your cheek. “where would someone like yoon jeonghan go to drink… hanguk’s angel yoon jeonghan…”
he stopped in his tracks. “what did you just say?”
you tapped on your chin with a finger, arms crossed. “yoon jeong-honey voice… where would someone like him go? maybe… a karaoke bar?”
“hey, hey-” jeonghan pointed at you accusingly. “are you serious? you’ve seen me?”
“hmm,” you continued, laughing as you avoided his gaze. “oh, i know! the rockbox!”
“yah!” jeonghan was laughing, pointing at you in disbelief. “what the hell! this isn’t fair!”
“you said deal, no going back.” you grinned in victory. “wow, maybe i’ll order something expensive. i can’t believe i won.”
jeonghan’s tongue ran over his teeth as he watched you giggle and happily trot ahead of him. “fine, fine. you win. when did you see me there?”
“after winter finals,” you said, cheesing. “i was there with friends and you sang.”
he tutted. “damn. did i just miss you or did you not sing?”
“i don’t sing,” you said, smiling as he continued walking with you. “my friends do, though. and i was forced to be in soonyoung’s hype squad for hurricane.”
jeonghan clapped suddenly, remembering in his perhaps too drunk stupor that seungcheol had pointed you out, calling you “the cutie that keeps looking at him.” he had, admittedly, checked you out, despite the fact that he had been too embarrassed by his too-serious song to go and talk to you, and he had thought you looked familiar. “oh my god! yes! i did see you! how do you know soonyoung?”
“mutual friends,” you said. “chwe hansol?
he nodded. “we’ve met once, i think. were you there with junhui?”
“yeah, actually,” you said, remembering the opinion of jeonghan your friend had volunteered up for you. “how do you know him?”
“i haven’t talked to him a lot directly, but i know both his roommates pretty well,” jeonghan said. "we do music together.”
“ah, yes,” you nodded in recollection, but refusing to acknowledge how insanely pretentious it was of him to say something like we do music together. “jihoon’s unnamed but immensely prolific band.”
he rolled his eyes. “why is it jihoon’s band? why can’t it be jeonghan’s band?”
“don’t ask me,” you said, putting up hands in innocence. “i didn’t even know it existed until that night. mingyu wouldn’t shut up about it.”
the name sounded familiar to jeonghan, but he moved on as the two of you reached a stop light. “do you go there a lot? or was that a one time thing?”
you eyed him. “this is starting to sound like an invitation, hannie.”
he didn’t comment on the nickname, despite the weird way his arms tingled at it. “you should learn what an invitation actually sounds like. you tend to assume a lot.”
you laughed heartily, and jeonghan ignored the way his stomach flitted while you started to cross the street. “call it wishful thinking, but i think i get you, yoon jeonghan.”
“the hell is that supposed to mean?”
you never answered his question, but grinned instead, which gave jeonghan a sense of unease and a touch of curiosity. as he led you to cafe nomu, he caught himself smiling. laughing. enjoying your company and conversation.
maybe shua hadn’t been completely off base.
by the time jeonghan had realized that his feelings towards you might have evolved from vague malice into something more akin to genuine interest, he was pushing open the door to the cafe for you and mentally double checking that he had put on deodorant that morning, cursing his inability to control his own nerves. ah, he thought. that explained the weird feeling he got waiting for you in class, too. and why he got flustered the day before at his work. he only snapped out of his crowded mind when he heard you ordering an iced americano.
“and for you?”
jeonghan blinked at you, then at the barista that was addressing him. “make that two.”
“thank you for the coffee,” you said, pressing your hands together as he inserted his card.
he waved you off, chuckling, but kept his eyes as far from yours as he could. “a deal is a deal.”
you looked around the quiet cafe, quickly scoping out the seat options as jeonghan accepted the buzzer for your order. he thought it was a little silly, considering the two of you were half of the customers in the cafe currently, but said nothing as he turned it over in his fingers, standing next to you.
“there?” you asked, pointing at a table by a window.
jeonghan bit his cheek, thinking about how joshua would likely be walking down this street to go to his shift, if he had one. “yeah, wherever.”
you were already on your way to the seat when he responded, and he followed, dropping his bag off his shoulder to hang on the hook under the table.
“i thought you were going to get something expensive,” he teased, sitting across from you.
laughing lightly, you pulled your phone out of your hoodie pocket and set it on the table. “you said the espresso was good, i wanted to try it.”
“don’t you not like coffee?” jeonghan asked, squinting at you.
“i love coffee,” you said, quirking an eyebrow.
“then why don’t you drink the americanos i make?”
he was leaning forward, staring at you, fingers folding over each other on the table. you pouted, avoiding his eyes suddenly. “no reason.”
leaning back again, he kept a wary eye on you. “that’s convincing.”
“good, it’s the truth.”
jeonghan decided to put a pin in that interrogation in favor of asking you your major.
you laughed again, making a small smile appear on his face. "communications," you answered, despite thinking of how he denied the same question from you earlier.
he let out a low "wah" and cocked his head. "what's up with that? same major."
"really?" you leaned over the table. "what year are you?"
"third."
you put a peace sign next to your eye like you were posing for a photo. "second."
you couldn't help but giggle at the "pfft" that spilled out of jeonghan's lips as he laughed at you, muttering a "really" under his breath at your pose. he was running a hand through his extremely soft and fluffy looking hair when the buzzer went off, and you blinked yourself awake from your trance to nod after he said he would go get the drinks.
admitting to it was the last thing you wanted, but you couldn’t help but hear mingyu’s voice rattling around your head, telling you that you would fall for jeonghan eventually. you had once thought he was completely up his own ass, but you kept getting glimpses of this really cute, really sweet version of him, and it made you want to get to know him better. additionally, it was getting harder to find people that would happily play along with your teasing, and he had no qualms teasing you right back.
when he returned with the americanos, you pressed your hands together in another thank you before taking a sip. he slid back into his seat and looked at you expectantly. "well? what do you think?"
you paused a moment, appraising the flavor. "delicious. thank you."
after he sipped at his own, he nodded. "the beans here are really good. balanced. i wish i could convince my boss to source better stuff."
you watched him sip again, letting out a praise under his breath. you sighed. "i have a confession."
his eyebrows quirked at you, and he did his best to not show the way his stomach flipped. "what kind?"
"i don't drink your americanos because they're shit."
there was silence as he processed your words, and you wondered if you had royally fucked up by saying something. suddenly, he was laughing, and you stared at him in shock as he calmed down. "oh my god, yeah, they are."
"wait, you know?"
"i-" jeonghan paused, rubbing his face, still laughing. "god, this is so stupid. i burn your shots."
your jaw dropped open, but a smile creeped across your face as you understood. "wait, on purpose?"
"you never smile!" he attempted to explain himself with a bit too much enthusiasm, finding his own pettiness ridiculous in hindsight. "not even when i smiled at you. i had a grudge. i'm sorry."
you were sipping your non-burnt americano with a sly look on your face. you wanted to be mad at the wasted money on countless gross americanos, but somehow, you couldn't be. "do you hold grudges against everyone or am i just lucky?"
"uh, depends," jeonghan said, crossing his arms and thinking. "when the prof that failed my roommate comes in, i burn his shots, too. i think he might like it that way, though, because he's always really nice to me."
you almost snorted. "well, you owe me a lot of coffee."
he nodded and sighed, resigning to his fate. "when you come in, your coffee's on me. and i won't burn it this time."
you pouted a second, and jeonghan barely caught it, but he thought the expression was far too cute. "i was hoping you would invite me out again."
"again?" he asked, letting a few 'ha's fall from his lips in quick succession. "you mean for the first time?"
you gestured to the cafe you sat in. "was this not your idea?"
he rolled his eyes. "you invited yourself out and held me hostage."
"does that mean you have stockholms?"
he laughed at the diagnosis, remembering the class you claimed you had both taken the year before. "you're a very charming captor."
you smiled at the compliment, despite the sinister implication.
the next time you saw jeonghan, it was saturday. you had rolled out of bed far earlier than you had intended to when you had fallen asleep at 4 am after a very drunk and extremely conflict heavy game of uno with the guys. you winced at the sunlight streaming through your shitty dorm blinds, fumbling your way to the water dispenser on your desk to rehydrate.
you stared at your roommate's empty bed, remembering they had said they worked early shifts this weekend as you brushed your teeth, and you wondered how they had dealt with you stumbling into the dorm in the wee hours of the day.
you almost gagged on your toothbrush. an empty room on a saturday morning with too little sleep and a nasty hangover, you thought. bad decisions could never be made under these circumstances.
"does jeonghan's cafe do breakfast sandwiches?" you thought aloud with a mouth full of toothpaste, leaning over the sink to spit. you kind of remembered seeing them on the menu, though you never thought to get anything beyond the occasional muffin. maybe today was the day.
after washing your face and cleaning up your hair a bit, you had to dig in your clothes to find your favorite pair of black sweats and a shirt to tuck in. you last minute decided to bring your good headphones, just in case hanguk's angel wasn't there to bug, and ran out the door with your wallet and phone, a pair of sunglasses shoved onto your face.
the walk to his cafe is short from the dorms you lived in, which was another reason you liked it there. it was warmer than it had been during the week, and you watched a big muscular dog running alongside its owner. before long, you were tugging open the door, seeing no line. you grinned at how lucky you were as you pulled your headphones down to your neck.
"yoon jeonghan! you are working!"
he seemed startled by your voice, his shoulders raising slightly as he turned towards the door. "oh, what the hell? what are you doing here at 9:30 on a saturday?"
you pouted, walking up to the counter and tugging off your sunglasses. "are you not happy to see me?"
his laugh was genuine and completely out of his control. "sure i am. nice eyebags."
that, you noted, was the first time jeonghan had ever greeted you with a smile, and it seemed appropriate that it was paired with an insult. "thanks, i'm violently hungover right now." you said, noticing your best friend's roommate standing further back behind the counter, pretty obviously pretending to not be listening to you.
"do you wanna redeem a free americano?" he asked, poking at the touchscreen register.
you hummed, crossing your arms and staring at the menu board. "not today, i wanna try a latte. something tasty, and something for breakfast. what do you think?"
jeonghan stared at you, and you stared back, a small smile on your face. he blinked. "have you ever tried lavender?"
"lavender?" you shook your head, genuinely surprised. "is that a good flavor?"
he nodded, looking down at the screen and adding items to your order. "we have this seasonal syrup that we make in house," he said. "it's my favorite one of the year. honey, lavender, and vanilla bean. big one?"
you blinked at the cup sizes, trying to remember how many bottles of soju you had bought the night before, and subsequently how much money was left in your account. "uh, yeah."
"will you be offended if i give you a vegetarian sandwich? it's the best one."
you cocked your head. "i mean, if it's the best one…"
jeonghan smiled slightly, pulling out his wallet from his back pocket. "it's the best one. and it's my secret hangover cure."
you noticed his card too late. "hey, what are you doing?"
he quirked an eyebrow at you. "buying your coffee. like i said i would."
"that was way more than an americano."
"and i've burned way more than an americano," jeonghan reminded you. "and if you don't accept that, i'm buying you breakfast as a peace offering."
your eyebrows raised. "a peace offering?"
he avoided your gaze. "i've decided you're not a pretentious asshole."
you laughed at his word choice, and how it mirrored your own. "i mean, i can be kind of pretentious sometimes. and a major asshole a lot of the time."
jeonghan grinned. "me too."
he washed his hands and passed along the sandwich order to his coworker as he moved to the espresso machine, briefly explaining to you that he was completely useless with food as soon as a heat source becomes involved, but assured you that seokmin was a master with a turbochef, and that your sandwich was in the best hands.
you giggled, watching his hands as he found a squeeze bottle and shot the contents into a glass. "i trust you."
his eyes flicked to you briefly, and you leaned against the drink pickup counter, squinting at the syrup. he held the glass that would soon be your drink up for you. "see the specs? real vanilla."
you hummed. "it smells good."
"it tastes like sunshine, i swear to god."
your eyes followed his hands as he expertly filled and packed the portafilter with fresh grounds. he felt you watching him, and did his best to suppress the itch to fumble. you watched him not burn your shots, stirring them with the syrup and pouring milk from a jug. he added ice, put a metal straw in the tall glass, then placed it on the counter in front of you.
you made sure to smile when you told him thank you, and jeonghan was pretty sure he would have collapsed from how cute he found you if he had slightly less resolve.
"veggie sando for… y/n?" seokmin announced to the cafe, eyes creasing into a laugh as he appeared with a plate.
you gave seokmin a nervous smile. "sorry for staying over so late. i didn't know you worked this morning."
jeonghan looked between you suspiciously as seokmin assured you it was fine, claiming he was knocked out by midnight and didn't even know when you left. who did seokmin live with again? jeonghan chewed on his cheek as he put your drink and sandwich on a tray.
your eyes flicked over to the front counter as a few customers entered the cafe, seokmin already heading over to greet them and begin the order. you tried not to let your disappointment show when you told jeonghan you should probably let him get back to work. he tried to not let his show, either, when he nodded in agreement. neither of you did a great job.
"someone's clocking on in half an hour, i can take a break then. don't leave?"
his almost pleading tone made your lip twitch upward. "don't act so clingy, hannie."
he grinned, then stopped you before you picked up the tray. "first- hang on," he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket and unlocking it, quickly going to the keypad as he looked over his shoulder at the customers. "give me your number."
your eyes met his briefly as you took the phone, quickly punching in your digits and tapping to add yourself to his contacts. he smiled at the profile name - "americano" - as you picked up your tray and headed to your favorite armchair. even as he was making other drinks and serving other customers, he couldn't take his eyes off you, sitting in your armchair with your headphones on. it had only been two days since he saw you last, but he hadn't thought of anything but you the entire time. he had almost considered asking shua to swap shifts with him so he could have a chance of seeing you the day before, but he knew his coworker would refuse to take the saturday opening shift. he spent his whole afternoon off sitting on the couch in his apartment, staring at the back of his roommate's chair, trying to figure out why he didn't ask for your number.
"hey," jihoon said, and jeonghan had only then noticed that his roommate had spun his tall cushioned chair around to look back at him. "i said, do you know when seungcheol invited people around tomorrow?"
jeonghan stared at him for a second, then sighed dramatically, rubbing his eye.
"woah," the younger laughed and leaned back in his seat. "who'd you sleep with last night? i need to warn them you're crazy."
"no one," jeonghan pouted. "what the hell? i'm not crazy."
"hyung, i say this with the most respect i can," he said, leaning forward. "you're batshit, especially when you catch feelings for a one night stand."
"ugh, whatever," jeonghan pushed the pillow off his lap and ran a hand through his hair. "we didn't even do anything."
jihoon squinted at him a moment. "okay, hang on, i feel like our definitions of not doing anything are different."
he rolled his eyes. "we didn't do anything," he repeated, standing from the couch and walking over to the kitchen to get water. "like, nothing. we didn't even touch each other. not once."
jihoon looked around, trying to understand what he meant. "i'm confused. you didn't touch your one night stand?"
"it wasn't a one night stand!" jeonghan threw a dagger glare at the other before he drank his water, muttering a "really" beneath his breath.
jihoon's face didn't change. "so… you went on a date?"
jeonghan swallowed the water hard, putting the glass down on the counter and leaning against it. "kinda."
"you are really not making this easy for me at all."
"we got coffee," he said finally. "we have a class together, and we made a stupid bet over who would pay, and they fucking tricked me, so i had to pay for it and we talked for, like, a stupid long time, and i think i actually really…" he exhaled, both hands rubbing his face. "i think i really like them."
jihoon whistled. "i just wanna say before the moment passes that it is incredibly on brand for you to fall for someone because they conned you into buying them coffee."
jeonghan glared at the younger, but he couldn't argue. "we got coffee and talked and then they just…" his palms faced the sky as he gestured, shoulders raised. "they just left. i didn't even get their number."
"okay, and?" jihoon swivelled back and forth in his chair. "you have a class together. you'll literally see them next week."
he groaned, pressing his forehead against the fridge. "but i wanna see them now."
and now, he was seeing you. much sooner than he had expected, yet not soon enough. the saturday morning rush began to pick up, and even when an additional barista arrived, jeonghan wondered if he would actually be able to slip away for a break.
"go ahead," seokmin said, grabbing the steamed milk pitcher from his hand. "me and hyejoo can handle it for a minute."
jeonghan looked at the shrinking line and nodded, quickly pulling off his apron as he walked around the counter. he knew he didn't have a lot of time, and pulling up a chair seemed silly, so he instead just squatted and folded his arms over the arm of your favorite seat.
you looked up from your phone at the motion, pulling your headphones off and grinning. "hey! the drink is delicious and extremely not burnt."
he smiled, noticing it was almost gone. "i'm glad! it's still busy, so i can't really take a proper break, but i wanted to ask you something."
you squinted at him. "what kind of something?"
"do you have plans tonight?"
"depends," you said, turning your body to face him better as you sucked on your cheek. "what's going on?"
jeonghan exhaled, amused. "my roommate is having people over for a few drinks or something, it'd be cool if you came by?"
you looked at a light, gauging the state of your hangover. your voice almost cracked when you asked "tonight?"
"you don't have to drink," he said, remembering what you had told him earlier. "and you can, like, bring a friend if you want. i know it's weird that i'm inviting you to my place."
you thought a moment. "don't you live with lee jihoon?"
jeonghan blinked. "uh, yeah?"
"i'll bring a friend," you said, tapping your fingers on the back of your phone. you looked back to him and smiled. "text me details?"
jeonghan stood. "yeah, i'll text you," he said, glancing up at the door where more customers were walking in. "fuck, i should go."
you followed his gaze. "i think i'll stick to weekdays. this place gets crazy on the weekends."
"tell me about it." he started to walk back to the counter. "i'll talk to you later?"
you smiled and nodded at him, and you waved enthusiastically at him as you were headed out about ten minutes later.
"i'm still waiting for a text," you teased, peeking over the counter as he made a drink.
he laughed. "i'll get to it when i get to it."
"thanks for the sandwich, seokmin! it was delicious!"
seokmin waved at you with a big grin and you looked back at jeonghan.
"i'll see you tonight?"
he nodded, a smug smile teasing his lips. "yeah, i'll see you tonight."
you didn't show the way your stomach flipped when he made eye contact with you, but you slid your sunglasses back on and put your headphones back on your head, and walked to the rhythm of love songs in the sun on your way to your friend's apartment, a stupid childish giggle threatening to surface the entire time.
"hey, is mingoo around?"
minghao blinked at you, standing at his front door with a smile on your face. "dude, you left like four hours ago. what are you even doing here."
"uh, no, myungho, i left like seven hours ago, get it right." he let you walk past him into the apartment. "is he still asleep?"
"is that actually a question?"
you trotted into mingyu's room, humming along to the song playing through the headphones around your neck as you pulled open his blinds.
"god, what the fuck," his rough voice went behind you. "the hell is wrong with you. go home."
"that's not a very nice way to treat the person that's gonna set you up with your future ex-husband."
mingyu's hair stuck in several different directions and his eyes were still squeezed shut, but he had pushed himself off his pillow enough for you to know you caught his attention. "which one?"
you grinned. "the one with the pretty voice."
"wait," mingyu fumbled with his comforter as he tried to sit up. "wait, hang on. jihoon?" you laughed and nodded as he sniffed noisily. "he is not my future ex-husband, y/n. he's it. he's the one that's gonna make an honest woman out of me."
"well, lady, get ready to be honest, because i got an invite to a kickback at his apartment tonight and i snagged a plus one."
he squinted at you. "what's the catch?"
you rolled your eyes. "there isn't always a catch. maybe i'm just trying to be nice."
"yeah, uh huh." mingyu flopped back onto his bed, rubbing his eyes. "why didn't you just text me or something? it's so early."
"it's like, barely morning."
"it's ten."
you exhaled. "it's 11:17, asshole. are you going with me or not?"
mingyu groaned and flopped around, his head aching from the drinks that had stopped too recently. "when?"
"uhh," you stalled as you checked your phone. no new messages. "not sure yet. i'm waiting on a text."
he squinted at you. "who's texting you? soonyoung?"
you shrugged. "sure."
"oh my god, it's jeonghan, isn't it?"
"whaaaaaat?" you deadpanned, walking over to mingyu's bed to sit on the edge, staring at your phone. "why would i be waiting on a text from that loser?"
"i knew you were acting stupid yesterday for a reason," he accused. "and you asked jun what his deal was. you like him, don't you? what did he do? did he corner you?"
"absolutely not," you said, sighing and throwing your phone down on his bed, slightly offended by him saying you were acting stupid but truly not being able to remember if he was wrong. "i cornered him, at his workplace, no less. then i made him buy me coffee. then i showed up to his workplace, again, incredibly hungover, and he still asked for my number."
mingyu's lips formed a pout as he hummed, rubbing his eye again. "never would have pegged jeonghan as the simping type, but sure."
"shut up," you laughed, and mingyu whined about whether or not you had washed your hands when you plopped your palm against his face. he pushed your wrists away. "do you still have that bottle of white wine?"
"you mean the one hao refuses to drink even though i spent good money on it for his fucking birthday? yeah, why?"
you grabbed your phone again, despite it not vibrating. "it'd probably make a good first impression if you bring a nice bottle to the kickback you were last minute invited to. i bet jihoon will be so impressed by your manners."
mingyu blinked heavily. "you're devious. what about you?"
"i don't need a good first impression," you said. "i already made an awful one and he still likes me."
he sighed. "you always have been a charming dickhead."
you grinned at your best friend. "thanks, babe."
mingyu groaned against his palms. "god, fuck, i was supposed to study for my exam today."
you clicked your tongue. "that sucks dick."
"you suck dick."
you pouted out your lips when you got a text from an unknown number. "i'm trying."
you hadn't fully decided yet how you were going to make sure jeonghan really liked you, especially after jun regaled his "disgusting sexcapades," as he described them. you took his words with a grain of salt, considering the guy had an extremely low opinion of him from the get go, but either way, could you really blame jeonghan for putting his incredibly good looks and charm to use?
you, however, found flings incredibly uninteresting. most of the men that went after you were dull at best, and definitely would have fallen for any stupid prank you had played on them. with jeonghan, though, there was a challenge. there was always the chance he would out-trick you. it was new and exciting. playing with people, you decided, was only fun when there were some stakes involved.
inviting you to have drinks at his place seemed like such a transparent ploy to get laid, but you couldn't help but expect more from him. something told you he knew that you wouldn't be that easy, and you wondered what his game was.
i think i'm here >
which apartment was it? >
you definitely could have scrolled up in your conversation with jeonghan to check, especially since mingyu was complaining next to you on the street outside the apartment building, but you preferred the power move of asking again. you hadn't considered, though, that jeonghan was absolutely the type to know exactly what you were trying as soon as he saw the notification and make you wait. you squinted at the window that clearly had a party going on inside of it, willing the boy to respond.
"bro, it's apartment 2-b. soonyoung says he's 'the b in 2-b' like, every chance he gets. let's just go up."
"hang on, i'm plotting," you said, putting up a finger and scrolling through your contacts.
mingyu groaned as you put the phone to your ear, pressing the cold wine bottle against his eye. "you are the most annoying person i've ever met."
"yet you ask me to hang out constantly."
mingyu glared at you with his uncovered eye. "i also watch a lot of shit television, so don't take my taste as gospel."
inside, soonyoung patted down his pockets when he heard his ringtone, then looked at the kitchen counter where he had left it when he was making drinks. he grinned wide when he saw the contact info and practically yelled when he answered the phone. "y/n! please tell me you're finally coming over?"
jeonghan heard your name, his head whipping towards the sound. he stared at soonyoung, phone to his ear as he laughed into it, and he exhaled when he realized what you had done. he looked down at the ignored notification on his phone, his thought process being that you would call as it became more urgent.
and you had, just not him. he cursed under his breath. you were always one step ahead.
"yeah, second floor! come on up, i'll meet you at the stairs!"
jeonghan watched soonyoung shove his feet into a pair of slides and exit the apartment, then quickly downed the rest of his drink. he was gonna need an excuse to ask if you wanted one.
you followed soonyoung down the hall as he excitedly chattered about how he didn't know you were coming.
mingyu laughed. "yeah, we didn't either. y/n got an invite from jeonghan this morning."
"jeonghan?" soonyoung looked at you. "i didn't know you knew each other."
"i enjoy being a mystery," you said, checking quickly to see if your message had been seen yet.
soonyoung couldn't help but laugh at the idea of you and his roommate, especially with a few drinks in him. "you definitely suit each other."
jeonghan hadn't lied when he said people were coming over for drinks, but he had definitely made it seem much smaller than it was. the living area had enough people that you didn't want to bother counting, but probably somewhere in the twenties. there was music playing, but the conversational chatter was still audible over the beat, and people were laughing with each other on just about every surface you could see. you noticed jihoon by the kitchen counter as you were taking off your shoes, and grabbed mingyu's arm to face him towards you.
"jesus, fuck," he stumbled over his own shoes. "why do i hang out with you?"
"he's in the kitchen and he's alone," you said, your fingers digging into his bicep. "now's your chance. ask him where you should put the wine."
mingyu peeked over his shoulder, then looked back at you with wide eyes. "are you serious? right now?"
"right now," you reassured. "you got this, big guy. you're hot, smart, and tall. say you like his music and blow his mind."
he exhaled, his lips forming an o, and shook his hand nervously. "okay. okay. thank you. i love you. i'm sorry i ever called you annoying."
you laughed, smacking his arm. "love you too, goo."
he shut his eyes and spun, walking towards the boy of his affections. you watched him for a moment, though slyly, as you wandered into the party. you wondered where soonyoung had gone so quickly, then clenched your fist in victory when you saw jihoon get wine glasses out of a cupboard and laughed at something mingyu said.
"oh, y/n!" you spun to the familiar voice, spotting jeonghan leaning against a wall casually, half engaged in a conversation. he pushed off it as you closed the short space between you. "you made it! why didn't you tell me you were here?"
"i did," you said, cocking your head at him. "but you probably knew that."
a sideways smile creeped onto his face. "hey, are you drinking tonight? i don't wanna tempt your self proclaimed alcoholism, but i've been sitting on an empty drink for a while, i could make you one too."
you eyed the red cup in his hand. "what's on the menu?"
"paloma," he said, lifting the cup. "but i can make you something else."
you thought for a second, then looked at him. you hadn't had tequila since the night you saw him sing. "i trust your taste."
he tilted his head as he moved, gesturing for you to follow him to the kitchen. you nudged mingyu with your hip as you settled against the counter next to him to watch jeonghan make a drink for you. he looked down at you, then put an arm on your shoulder as he sipped the wine he had brought, and you noticed jihoon had a matching glass. you smiled proudly.
"mingyu?" jeonghan asked, gesturing.
you nodded, then looked up at your best friend. "this is jeonghan," you said, pointing.
mingyu smiled at him. "good luck with this one. jihoon, this is my worst friend, y/n."
"i'm also the reason he's here," you said, leaning forward to direct the speech at boy you were being introduced to. "you're welcome."
jihoon looked at you, mouth parted into an almost smile. his eyes went to jeonghan, remembering their conversation the day before, then to mingyu again, who was covering his eyes with a palm in embarrassment. "this is why they're my worst friend."
jeonghan laughed, pulling your attention back as he popped open a soda with a bottle opener. "so you're like this with everyone?"
"i’m sure i don't know what you mean," you quipped, sliding out from mingyu's arm to grab the bottle and inspect the label. "jah…ritos?"
"jarritos," jeonghan corrected, pronouncing the h sound. "mexican grapefruit soda. it's the best for palomas."
"see, this is why people think you're a prick," you said, putting the bottle back on the counter. "you get fancy soda specifically for your fancy cocktails."
he just laughed at you as he poured tequila from a bottle into two cups of ice. "if i cared what people thought, i would have changed my ways years ago."
you let that marinate for a moment, then decided the two of you were much more similar than you had originally thought. he grabbed the bowl of cut lime wedges that seungcheol had prepared and squeezed two into each cup, and you watched as he topped the drinks with the soda.
"can you handle heat?"
you looked at him. "that's a loaded question."
he laughed again, and you wondered how many palomas he had before you arrived. "i like chili on the lime, but i wanted to be nice and ask before i did it for you, too."
"i'll try anything once."
then you tried it again.
and again.
jeonghan really was charming, you thought. and pretty. and he had a lovely voice.
at some point, soonyoung found you again, just to waggle his eyebrows at jeonghan when he thought you weren't looking, and you got introduced to seungcheol, who you both recognized and were recognized by. jeonghan rolled his eyes and shoved him away when he gave him a look, remembering how he described you at the bar ages ago.
you barely even noticed the time passing, but your drinks kept draining and you kept accepting more, and you wondered if you were really stupid enough to say yes if he asked you to join him in his bedroom tonight. but the more jeonghan talked, the more you were kind of okay with the idea.
"do you wanna get out of here?"
you blinked, chin in your palm and elbow on the counter, face inches from jeonghan's as he put down his cup. "and go where?"
he pouted as he thought. "i could really go for tteokbokki right now."
at that moment, you decided jeonghan really liked you. you grinned. "that sounds so good."
he smiled back at you, and you didn't comment on the way his eyes lingered on your lips, even if you really wanted to. "better tell your chaperone."
you rolled your eyes at the title mingyu had given himself earlier when he was trying to convince you to not take a fourth drink. "don't let his stupid height trick you, he's more of a lightweight than me."
"at least you don't have to worry about him, jihoon would never try anything. the poor guy is so shy, he was probably flustered just when mingyu said hi."
you quirked an eyebrow at him. "does he have to worry about me?"
jeonghan laughed. "if i wanted to get you drunk, i would have poured heavier."
"speaking of," you said, tipping your cup. "this one suspiciously tasted like not tequila."
he stood suddenly, palms on the counter, trying to force down the blush on his ears. "if you're gonna complain about every drink i make you, maybe you should stop asking for them."
you giggled, standing and imitating his stance. "just admit you care about me, yoon jeonghan."
he looked at you, a smile teasing his lips. "only after you admit you're in love with me."
you squinted. "a draw."
he grinned. "tteokbokki?"

Florist!Seokmin
Tumblr media
he runs this really tiny flower shop right next to Jihoon’s music shop
you wouldn’t really notice the shop if it wasn’t for the flower pots and hanging flower ornaments and the giant sign that says Sunshine Florist
yep, that’s Seokmin’s flower shop.
It has a very rustic feel, the place was built with wood, the floors are wood, and Seokmin even got cute tables that were wooden
once again, the place was very tiny, probably only a few people could fit into it, maybe a good twenty, but after that it’s very hard to fit more into it
Seokmin has little tables outside of his shop, he found that some of the grannies of the town loved to visit his beautiful shop, not to mention they also bring along the nice drinks they acquire from Seungkwan for free
he often sits with the ladies who talk of the gossip floating around town, such as ‘did you hear that Lee Jihoon is trying to court the pretty new girl who Seungkwannie hired.’
Seokmin doesn’t really understand what ‘courting’ really means until Seungkwan explains it to him later.
bc he spends so much time tending to his flowers on the outside of the shop, he often sees people of the town walking by and greets them all by name with a toothy smile as he accidentally over waters his plants.
will occasionally go over to Jihoon’s music shop to ask him to play some sweet soothing music which results in Jihoon blasting hard rock so loud that it disrupts Joshua’s preschool lessons.
Seokmin also has this thing where he just drifts along the sidewalk to the other shops, and he pops in with a ‘Hello!’
and Soonyoung has to stop his dancing lessons to look at him like ‘dude, who’s running your shop.’
‘Chan.’
‘Chan is literally right here.’
So he forgets sometimes, but no worries, the little grannies protect his shop while he wanders sometimes.
Because he’s so sweet, he usually sends the grandmothers home with plants, some pretty roses or lillies just because he loves ‘spoiling’ them
Occasionally he’ll also belt out his wonderful vocals on the rare occasions Seungkwan has open mic night, Seungkwan tries to limit open mic night due to Soonyoung’s non-funny jokes and the fact that it’s slightly boring hearing Wonwoo recite poetry as a way to promote his bookstore down the street
Anyway, he definitely enjoys his little simple life in the little town.
But the little grandmothers are so worried for the boy
‘What’s there to be worried about, I love the way things are now’ he grins one day while sitting and drinking tea with the ladies
‘But what about marriage?’
‘How about kids?’
‘Don’t you think of these things?’
Seokmin thinks hard for a moment, a grin appearing on his face, ‘not really.’
And thus begins the frenzy of who gets to introduce their granddaughter to the precious Sunshine first.
That’s when you entered.
When you entered his little shop, it was like the sun had actually stepped into the tiny area, he swore some of the wilting flowers had actually begun to bloom in response to your entrance
‘Hi! Can I help you.” He was quick to step in, swooping in to professionally greet you.
‘Hi. You must be Seokmin. I’ve heard a lot about you from my grandmother.” Your giggle sets everything in him on fire.
‘My heart is actually blooming for her. I feel like a flower.’
‘You’re holding up my line.’ grumbles Seungkwan over the counter of his cafe
And then Seokmin ends up visiting every other place to talk about you
‘Oh she’s so wonderful kids. I think i’m in love.’
‘Alright Seokmin, time to pass over the sharing bear. Seokmin. Pass the bear over.’
‘I GOT THE SHARING BEAR FIRST JOSHUA’
‘SEOKMIN’
The date was set for saturday. That’s what your grandmother had told both you and him. She had walked her way all the way over to Mingyu’s nice restaurant and told the taller boy to set a reservation for you and her future grandson in law Seokmin
‘Isn’t that a bit of a stretch to be calling him your grandson already ma’am’
‘Hush dear.’
Seokmin shows up thirty minutes early
That’s a lie, he showed up fourty five minutes early but waited fifteen minute outside of the restaurant because he knew Mingyu would make fun of him
that was once again another lie, he was actually an hour early, he was down the street at his flower shop spending fifteen minute deciding on what roses to pick for the date
He was just so nervous, he hadn’t been on a date in so long and the first date he has, he has it with you, you who was soooo out of his league and pretty and had the most pretty laugh
and in that very short first meeting, he was desperate to get to know you more
now here he was, breath taken when you step through the door, he felt as though he had to hold back his total and utter excitement when he sees you smile and walk his way
Anyone could see it
Seokmin was so smitten by you
‘Sorry i’m late, did you wait long?’
Seokmin shakes his head, even if you were late, he’d probably wait a hundred years if he had too
‘It’s no problem, I know the owner anyways, if you stood me up, he’d probably sit and have a whole meal with me. If this wasn’t his restaurant he’d have been fired for eating all the food’
you laughed at his remark, sending shivers down his spine and creating heart emojis to emit from his head.
and that’s how it happens, that’s how you two end up staying there until closing, barely even reaching the dessert course before Mingyu swears you two have to leave now because he has to go home
so you two leave in a fit of giggles, Seokmin walks you home, a lightness in his step that he tries to slow down so he could spend another hour entertaining you
‘This is my place.’
Seokmin’s shoulder fall in a defeat as he realizes and suddenly he’s so awkard with you
‘but you know, we never got to dessert, wouldn’t you say you owe me some’
some turned into more than just ‘some’ it turned into ice cream dates, cafe dates, exploring town dates, any kind of date that Seokmin could think of.
and like that, you two fall blissfully in love
‘I told you he’d be my grandson’
Mingyu: ‘he hasn’t even proposed yet’
He loves watching you tend to his flowers, watering them cutely with the small pitcher that he had the preschoolers decorate
he loves the way you hold and touch the petals, as if they were the most precious things on earth
and he loved seeing you through the large glass window that looked outside of the shop. Sometimes you sat with the ladies, giggling and laughing at their words while simultaneous catching his eyes, making his heart flutter with a wink
You’re also the one to get Jihoon to play more softer music
mostly because you bribe him by giving him little facts about the pretty barista next door who you’ve become friends with
you and Seokmin also got really cute matching flower shirts, and you guys wear it all the time whenever you two plan on being at the flower shop at the same time
and it’s so cutely annoying that people just have to roll their eyes but they do it because they know you two are cute together
you’ve given him the nickname ‘Sunshine’ mostly because his shop is called the ‘Sunshine Florist’ but also because you find everything about him to be so bright and so energetic like well the sunshine
oh he’s so whipped okay. He’d do anything for you, even closing his shop five hours early just to take you on a date. He constantly give you flowers to cheer you up and tells you things like ‘in a room filled with flowers, you’d still be the prettiest flower to me’. And honestly he just wants to love you forever and ever.
and that’s why, he plans to propose, with a beautiful ring placed gently in the middle of the rose, he’s going to propose and make you his forever

Hufflepuff!Seungkwan x Ravenclaw!Reader
If you knew one this for sure, it was that Boo Seungkwan was determined to bother you, without even ever talking to you. Whether it was his boisterous laughter from across the room drowning out whatever you were saying almost every time you tried to talk, or him distracting your potions partner by incessantly talking to them, leaving you to do all the work yourself, you were sure that Boo Seungkwan was no friend of yours.
So when your friends asked you if you wanted to go get your fortune told at Seungkwan’s “Magical Divination Station”, you considered not so politely declining.
Everyone’s end of the year O.W.L’s were coming up in only a week, and you wanted to keep up your streak of passing them well. For the past month you’d spent more time with your nose in a book than out of one.
Of course Joshua would always check up on you every once in awhile, bringing snacks and water in case you forgot to eat which he knew happened sometimes when you got in deep in an interesting topic, but other than that, you were content by yourself reading and studying.
Knowing your friends, they weren't going to give up on this until you went to this divination thing. So you figured you might as well get it over with and just go with them the first time they asked.
“Come on, just give it a shot. I promise you- he's not as bad as you think he is”, Soonyoung whined. Vernon nodded in silent agreement.
“You don't have to try to convince me, I'm going to go anyway. I'm just not expecting much”, you told him honestly.
Soonyoung, Vernon, Joshua, and you all made your way to the exact opposite side of the castle so that you could go get your fortunes read.
Before taking the first step leading up to the divination classroom, you send a worried glance over to your friends. Only Joshua seemed to notice, seeing as Vernon and Soonyoung were having quite the obnoxious beat-boxing battle, clearly not paying attention to their surroundings. And Joshua, your best friend, was just observant like that.
Vernon and Soonyoung made their way up the stairs without noticing that you and Joshua weren’t following behind them.
You: “Joshua… what if he says something weird with my fortune?”
Joshua: “From what I heard, most of his tea readings are ‘So-and-so is going to confess to you!’ and ‘Don’t eat cake for the next week. Someone is trying to poison you. Plus, you could afford to lose a few pounds’, and stuff like that. It’s not too worrisome. I’ll go first, if that’ll make you feel better?”
You: “That would help. Anyway, Soonyoung is probably cutting in line at this point to get his fortune read, we better hurry up”
Joshua smiled at you gently before heading up the stairs, you following close behind.
Upon reaching the top of the spiral staircase, you looked around to see the divination classroom as it always looks- a mess of fortune related materials. The only somewhat organized section was a surprisingly large tent at the far end of the room but honestly how did they get that up those stairs? did they construct it in the classroom? who has time for that?
It was obviously where Seungkwan conducts his “business” sham, so you followed behind yours friends to the booth.
Two girls giggling to one another walked out of the booth, and Joshua, Vernon, Soonyoung and you made your way on in.
Soonyoung insisted on getting his fortune told first, but Seungkwan said that he’d be able to read them all at once.
“How high and mighty of him”, your subconscious criticized him automatically.
The inside of Seungkwan’s tent/booth/thing looks like a fortune telling booth stolen off the set of some movie. You have to admit that his authenticity is at least up to par. The dark fabric roof of the tent is glittered in embroidered constellations, and the long table that Seungkwan is sitting at is riddled in potions and astrological knick-knacks.
After the four of you have sat down in the chairs in front of Seungkwan’s table, he gets out four tea cups and a teapot, setting them in front of you all delicately.
He puts tea leaves in the pot, then pours in some water from a room-temperature pitcher he had already on the table. Taking out his wand and pointing it at the teapot, he mumbles a spell which surrounds the teapot in flames for an instant, and then vanishes.
If you weren’t so entranced on how he could possibly cast a spell while mumbling, then you wouldn’t have been so startled at the teapot whistling. Luckily you only flinched somewhat noticeably, and the only person who noticed was Joshua, who sent you a concerned glance.
Before you could say anything to him, your thoughts were interrupted by Seungkwan’s booming voice.
Seungkwan: “Okay dear friends, the tea is ready!”, he announced while pouring tea into each of your cups, some tea leaves falling in as well.
Soonyoung: “I hate to break it to you man, but we came here to get our palms read and stuff, not to play tea party”
Seungkwan: “This is not some silly tea party, I’ll be able to read your fortunes by reading the images made by the tea leaves at the bottom of your cups. So drink up!”
After fifteen minutes of them chatting and you rolling your eyes at Vernon and Seungkwan’s handshake that they decided just now to make up, the four of you had finished your tea and Seungkwan pulled out his fortune reading book to read the tea leaves.
First he picked up Vernon’s, and without hesitation asked “Are you planning on dropping another mixtape?”
Vernon: “Yeah, how’d you know?”
Seungkwan: “Your leaves say that you will be successful in your next professional project”
Vernon: “I wouldn’t call it professional, but that sounds great, man”
One first bump later, Seungkwan was on to peering into Soonyoung’s cup.
Seungkwan: “Don’t cheat on your O.W.L’s. You will get caught”
Joshua: “Soonyoung, why would you do that?”
Soonyoung: “I only thought about it for a minute, I swear”
Vernon: “Is that why you were asking me if I knew where to get an auto-answer quill? Do I look like some kind of pen dealer to you?”
Seungkwan: “Enough, enough. Soonyoung just study instead”
Soonyoung: “Studying is hard though”, he whined.
You: “I can help you study, if you want”, you chimed in.
Soonyoung: “Really? That’d be awesome”
Sliding Joshua’s cup towards himself, Seungkwan furrowed his eyebrows.
Seungkwan: “Joshua, do you have a dog?”
Joshua: “No??”
Seungkwan: “Well you might get one soon. Also, new love awaits you from someone unexpected”
Joshua: “What?? Who?”
Seungkwan: “Can’t tell you, nor do I know for sure. Anyway, I’ve saved the best for last, I know yours will be a good one, Y/N”, he said, making some grand gesture at your tea cup.
The second he actually looked into your cup, his smile dropped immediately.
You: “What does it say exactly…?”
Seungkwan: “Umm- well… it’s just that-”
You: “Seungkwan, just lay it on me”, you cut him off impatiently.
Seungkwan: “You’re going to fail one of your O.W.L’s, and no I do not know which one”
Without saying anything, you stand up so hard your chair almost tips over backwards, and you storm out of his stupid tent and down the ridiculous amount of stairs you came up just to hear that of all things.
You can’t remember a time in your life when you’ve been more livid.
Actually, just the time in elementary school when some asshole kid copied off your test without you noticing, and told the teacher that you had copied off of him.
And even that you got over, but this? You decided to brood about this for a while.
However, you were NOT going to go sulk over this and give up. You were going to study twice as hard as you already had been and prove that know-it-all wrong.
You barged into the Ravenclaw commons and stormed up to your room, ignoring the questioning look on Seokmin’s face that you just knew was directed at you.
Peering at the calendar on the wall next to your bed, you made sure that the O.W.L’s were exactly when you thought they were.
Yep. Exactly one week from today.
“I’ve got this, I can do this” you repeated to yourself until it felt at least a little more true.
Glancing to the wall clock right next to your calendar, you only now noticed how late in the day it was getting.
You left your room reluctantly and made your way to the dining hall. The entire way there, your mind was brewing up study plans and ways to organize individual subjects and-
WHAM
Spacing out while walking is apparently not a good idea. Noted.
You weren’t mad about the collision until you looked up from your current position, on the ground, having fallen straight on you ass.
Of all the hundreds of students in this castle you had to have run into him.
“Oh my gosh Y/N, I’m so sorry”, Seungkwan blurted out.
“It’s fine, just leave me alone”, you said, your words coming off harsher than you intended.
Seungkwan: “I’m sorry about that, and about your fortune”
You: “I don’t have time to talk like this. Apparently I’ve got a lot of studying to do”, you replied coldly and marched right past him, straight into the grand hall.
As you sat down in your normal spot at the Ravenclaw table, you instantly regretted being so rude. Sure, you really aren’t fond of the guy, but seeing his face go from sincerely apologetic to looking like a kicked puppy? That just broke your heart.
“But you shouldn’t care, because you don’t like him”, you mumble to yourself.
“Who don’t I like?”, Jeonghan asked casually. You hadn’t even noticed him directly across from you, you were so enveloped in thought.
You: “It’s not who you don’t like. It’s who I don’t like”
Jeonghan: “And who exactly is it that you don’t like?”, he asked, seemingly more interested than before.
You: “Seungkwan”
Jeonghan: “...”
You: “What?”
Jeonghan: “That’s a joke, right?”
You: “No? Why would that be a joke”
Jeonghan: “It’s obvious you’re in love with him”
That statement in itself made you choke on the food you were chewing and Jeonghan chose to laugh instead of asking if you were okay. Typical. After drinking some water to recover, you continued this bullshit conversation.
You: “Why the hell would I be in love with Seungkwan?”
Jeonghan: “Are you telling me you don’t admire him?
You: “No way! He’s always so- I mean he’s just…”
Jeonghan: “See. Can’t name one bad thing about him, can you?”
You: “He’s loud”
Jeonghan: “He’s fun”
You: “And he’s over dramatic”
Jeonghan: “He’s enthusiastic”
You: “Fine, but he never stops talking”
Jeonghan: “He’s really friendly”
You: “He told me I would fail my O.W.L’s”
Jeonghan: “...he what?”
You: “He read my fortune and told me that I would fail my O.W.L’s”
Jeonghan: “Oh well that’s just a stupid fortune, it’s not like he was the one saying it”
You: “Was it really the fortune though? Maybe he doesn’t like me either and is trying to piss me off”
Jeonghan: “I can’t believe you’re this dense. But either way, I don’t think Seungkwan would say something like that for no reason. Maybe you should go talk to him if he upset you this much”
You: “I’ll talk to him, but not until I ace every single O.W.L.”
Jeonghan: “...what if he was right and you do fail one though”
You: “nOT goiNG to hAppEN”
After that even more confusing conversation, you made your way back to your room, crawled in bed, and were out cold immediately. It had been a long ass ride day.
Upon waking up, you drafted out a schedule of how/where/when/what to study in between your classes and even during meals. As far as your friends were concerned, you’d catch up with them after the O.W.L’s were over.
Friendship is important, but your success proving Seungkwan wrong? More important.
After cramming every nook and cranny of every subject in your curriculum, the days had passed faster than you’d like, and it became the day of your O.W.L’s.
Even though you were nervous, you were just as confident, too. All this studying would not go to waste, you’d make sure of it.
You put on your comfiest clothes, threw your witch/wizard’s robe on over top, and made your way to the testing room you’d been assigned to.
Striding into the room like you owned the place, because you knew you were going to make these tests your bitch, you took a seat in the front row so that you wouldn’t be distracted by anyone in front of you. That happened your first year when Soonyoung sat directly in front of you and turned around to make faces at you periodically throughout the testing session. After that irritating episode, however, the two of you managed to become close friends.
Something snapped you out of that flashback, and that “something” happened to be the easily recognizable, flamboyant voice that you just knew belonged to the man himself, Boo Seungkwan.
Whirling around in your seat to face the front of the classroom again, you tried to ignore him, but his booming laugh filled the whole room.
You felt an array of negative emotions, and it was hard to identify them. Whenever Seungkwan was around you, it seemed as if he made it his goal to talk to everyone but you.
This made you feel left out, and like he didn’t like you for some reason. Maybe that was why you didn’t like him.
Sighing deeply, the rest of the students in this testing room poured in, one by one.
The professor in charge of this group of students cleared her throat, and instructed for everyone to be silent as she passed out the first test.
You were passed a test, and on the front in big bold letters read “Potions”
Of course they started with potions, one of the hardest subjects.
But you had prepared and weren’t about to give up now. With a positive outlook, you finished this test with plenty time to spare.
And then you finished the next test, and one after that, and then your last test.
Since you finished each test before the designated time frame was over, you had lots of extra time to sit their and do nothing.
And by do nothing I mean contemplate your strange relationship with Seungkwan, because that’s all that was running through your mind.
You caught yourself glancing back behind you every once in a while to just see what he was doing.
The confused expression on his face is pretty adorable, if you’re being honest with yourself.
That thought caused you to snap your head back to facing the front. Cute?? You thought that he was cute? Since when? You’d been telling yourself this entire time that you don’t like him, but maybe it’s more than that. Maybe you just don’t like being ignored by him.
For the remainder of the time left after you completed your final O.W.L, you sulked about the fact that you, an extremely intelligent Ravenclaw, couldn’t figure out for months on end that you were pissed off at Seungkwan for not paying any attention to you, when he gave his attention out freely to literally anyone else.
“Time!”, called out the professor, who then began to collect everyone’s materials. As you turned to pass your test packet down to the next person in your row, you snuck a quick glance at Seungkwan, and noticed that he looks genuinely distressed.
He may be dead set on not giving you the time of day, but if you left this class without checking in with him to make sure he was okay, you just wouldn’t feel right.
“You’re all dismissed. Enjoy the rest of your day, the scores and rankings will be out by this evening”, the professor announced, and everyone stood up and rushed out of the room as fast as they could, eager to be anywhere but a testing room. Even the professor walked out, test packets in hand, before all the students had left.
In fact, the only students left at this point were you and Seungkwan, who’d hidden his face in his hands.
Making your way over cautiously, you pull out the chair next to him and take a seat.
“Didn’t do too well?”, you asked softly.
His head snapped up, his deep brown eyes meeting yours.
Seungkwan: “Oh my gosh, Y/N, uh… yeah I’m pretty sure I just failed every single O.W.L”
You: “Maybe you should’ve studied more and told fortunes less”, you joked, smiling and shoving his shoulder playfully.
And he just stares at you with this look of awe on his face, making your heart skip a beat.
You: “What? I was just joking”
Seungkwan: “I know, I just don’t think you’ve ever smiled at me before”
You: “...well if you actually talked to me instead of just telling me I’ll fail my exams, maybe I’d smile at you more”
Seungkwan: “I, um- sorry about that”
You: “Sorry about the fortune, or about the whole ‘talking to everyone but me’ thing?”
Seungkwan: “Both. But mostly the second one, the fortune wasn’t completely my fault”
You: “Why is that though? That you ignore me every time I walk into a room. Did I do something to offend you? Why are you so pissed off at me?”
Seungkwan: “Pissed off at you? Are you kidding me? You’re the one that’s pissed off at me when I’m in love with you”
You: “... you w h a t”
Seungkwan: “Oh shit- I have such a big mouth, I shouldn’t have said anything, just ignore what I said. That’s\ why I can’t talk to you, every time I see you, the only thing going through my head is ‘oh wow I love them’, and now I’ve just blurted that out, and I-”
You cut him off by leaning in and placing a quick peck on his lips.
Seungkwan: “...okay now I don’t even care that I failed my O.W.L’s. But also?? What? Do you not hate me?”
You: “You’re Boo Seungkwan, I don’t think a single person on this Earth hates you. I’m sorry for being bitchy, I was just upset that you wouldn’t talk to me, and the one time you did, it was to tell me I would fail the most important tests of the year. Couldn’t you have just lied to me?”
Seungkwan: “...”
You: “Oh you did not. Boo fucking Seungkwan did you make up my fortune?!”
Seungkwan: “I thought that if I told you your actual fortune, you’d never want to see me again!”
You: “What was my fortune?”
Seungkwan: “Your tea leaves formed a heart with an arrow through it, do you really think that that meant you’d fail some test?”
You: “...oh”
Seungkwan: “You know, for a Ravenclaw, you think you’d be able to figure out-”
You: “Seungkwan, just tell me!”
Seungkwan: “Fine, the heart represents new love, and the arrow represents conflict. Together, they mean that you’ll realize your love or fall in love with the person that you have the most conflict with. The only person you seemed to have a problem with was me I was not about to tell you that you’re in love with me”
You: “...yeah I’ll admit that would’ve pissed me off more that the test thing. Still. Don’t lie to me again, it’s not healthy for relationships”
Seungkwan: “Relationships? Are we in a relationship?”
You: “You confessed your love to me but you won’t date me?”
Seungkwan: “No no no, of course I will. I’d love to”
You: “Well good, cause I’d love to date you as well”
After your conversation/argument/lover’s quarrel/who even knows, you and Seungkwan left the testing room hand in hand.
Both things weighing on you had been resolved- your O.W.L’s and your conflict with Seungkwan.
Seungkwan told you that he was going to go take a nap to “cleanse that damn test negativity from my aura”, and that he’d see your later at dinner.
You decided that wasn’t too bad of an idea and that you’d go rest yourself.
You skipped into the Ravenclaw dorms with the brightest smile on your face, only to be given an all-knowing glance from Jeonghan. Seokmin on the other hand- completely oblivious to the cause of your sudden change in mood.
Seokmin: “Y/N, why so cheery? Did you do that well on your O.W.L’s?”
You: “You know there’s more than testing well that can make me happy”
Seokmin: “...like what though?”
Jeonghan: “Like Boo Seungkwan”, he comments nonchalantly from his cross-legged position on one of the couches, not even looking up from the magazine he’s been flipping through this whole time.
Seokmin: “I thought you hated him??”
You: “I also thought I hated him but as of fifteen minutes ago I am now dating him and quite excited about it so. We’ll see how this goes”
Jeonghan puts down his magazine and throws an arm around your shoulders.
Jeonghan: “Is it too early to say ‘I told you so’”
You: “Now seems like the appropriate time, if anything”
Jeonghan: “Okay then- I told you so. Seungkwan may be able to read fortunes and stuff but no one predicts the future of couples like I do”
You: “Oh really? Then who’s next?”
Jeonghan: “Joshua”
You: “Just Joshua?? You’re not going to tell me who he’ll be dating?”
Jeonghan: “You’ll see soon enough”
You: “...okay, whatever. I’m gonna go take a nap, Wake me up when you wanna head over to the grand hall for dinner”
You walked up the staircase to your room, slid under the covers, and closed your eyes for what felt like sixty seconds before Jeonghan was shaking you awake.
You: “Are you kidding me?! It’s been a few minutes!”
Jeonghan: “Sorry your royal highness but it’s been a few hours. Food time. Let’s go”, he said in a matter-of-fact tone, dragging your blanket off of your body, ruining the cocoon of warmth that you’d made for yourself.
You drag yourself out of bed, throw on some warmer layers, and then trudge tiredly down the stairs, still not completely awake.
Jeonghan and you chit-chat about this and that, and by that I mean he pries every detail of what happened with you and Seungkwan out of you.
Jeonghan: “As you best friend, I need to know”
You: “But do you?? Plus, Joshua’s my best friend”
He acted out a dramatic gasp and clutched his heart as if you’d broken it. Turns out Seungkwan isn’t the only drama queen in this castle.
You: “You’re a close second, but Joshua’s my number one”
Joshua: “Your number one what?”, Joshua asks after jogging over to catch up with the two of you.
You: “My number one best friend”
Joshua: “Yeah that sounds about right”
Jeonghan: “Hey!”
Joshua: “You’re also very dear to me Jeonghan, don’t worry”
Right then, you three had made it to the grand hall, where you sat at your respective tables, but still were able to talk to one another because the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw tables are right next to one another.
At some point in time it had been agreed by the Hogwarts staff that the Slytherin and Gryffindor tables needed a buffer between them or all hell would break loose one of these days. That buffer became the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw tables, right in the middle of the chaos.
Anyway, you and Jeonghan sat down at the Ravenclaw table and Joshua sat across from the two of you at the Hufflepuff table. What you didn’t see, was your now boyfriend, Boo Seungkwan, stroll into the grand hall, and what you definitely didn’t anticipate was him swooping in and kissing you on the cheek.
Seungkwan then proceeded to take a seat next to Joshua as if he’d done the most normal thing in the world.
The look on Joshua’s face was p r i c e l e s s
The amount of pure shock and confusion alone was enough to have you and Jeonghan cackling for the next several minutes, while Seungkwan had to explain to Joshua that one- yes that was consensual/no you don’t need to fight me, and two- the two of you are a couple as of today.
After your laughing fit, the four of you talk casually and enjoy the rest of your meal.
Joshua and Jeonghan decide that they’re gonna head in, and to quote Jeonghan: “They’re a couple now, we can’t stay here like it’s a double date”
Joshua: “But we’re not dating??”
Jeonghan: “That’s what you think”
Joshua: “...w h a t”
And then they were out of the grand hall so you never really got to hear the end of that conversation. You made a mental note to ask one of them about it later.
Seungkwan: “I guess today’s just a big day for romance”
You: “Ah, that it is”
But before your conversation could continue much further, Seungcheol barged into the hall, stood on the Gryffindor table, and announced that the class ranking had been posted on the board outside, your test results have been given to the Head Boy or Girl of your respective houses, and that you are to receive your scores from them.
Just as he finished said announcement, he was dragged down off of the table by Mingyu and Vernon, demanding their score sheets. You kind of saw that coming, though.
Glancing over to Seungkwan, you could see that he was anxious about his results.
“Come on”, you said, standing up and grabbing his hand. “We’re going to go to Joshua and see what your scores are. If you didn’t pass some of them, I’ll help you study for the make up test and you’ll do better on that one. Try not to worry”
For once in his life, Seungkwan didn’t say anything, he just smiled softly at you, and as soon as the two of you walked out of the grand hall, he pulled you towards him and enveloped you in a tight hug.
Seungkwan: “Thank you”, he whispered into you ear.
You: “What for?”, you asked, looking up into his eyes.
Seungkwan: “For caring about how I feel. Most people just assume that if I’m upset, I’ll get over it myself, but it’s not that easy”
You: “You don’t have to get over anything by yourself anymore, I’m here for you. But also if you failed we should probably figure that out sooner than later”
Seungkwan: “Oh shit, you’re right”, he said, letting go of you abruptly.
You glanced to the board on your right, which showed the postings for class rankings. You’d ranked number one for every subject you were taking. But you weren’t going to mention anything about it until later, out of consideration for Seungkwan’s feelings.
The two of you made your way to the Hufflepuff commons, hand in hand, Seungkwan swinging your arm with his as you both walked.
You hesitated going inside the commons, because it wasn’t your house, but then realized that this is the Hufflepuff commons you’re talking about. What’s the worst they would do? Ask you politely to leave?
As the two of you made your way in the room, you were met with Joshua, Hufflepuff’s Head Boy, sitting in one of the comfy chairs looking like he was in super deep thought.
You: “You alright, Josh?”
Joshua: “I don’t know??”
You: “Are you dating Jeonghan?”
Joshua: “I don’t know that either??”
Seungkwan: “...well do you have my score sheet?”
Joshua: “Yes! I know that I have that, at least”
Joshua filed through some papers on the side table next to him, pulled out what you assumed was Seungkwan’s results, and handed them to Seungkwan, who immediately handed them to you.
Seungkwan: “Please just tell me, I can’t even look at it”
After glancing over the paper, you saw that some of the scores were lower than ideal, but he didn’t fail any of the O.W.L’s.
You: “You passed”
Seungkwan: “I passed which ones?”
You: “You passed all of them”
Seungkwan: “??? All four?”
You: “Yes, all four”, you replied, laughing to yourself at the look of pure relief on Seungkwan’s face.
Seungkwan hugged you even tighter this time, but you were not complaining. You could get used to this.
You: “Seungkwan, you’re crushing your score sheet”
Seungkwan: “Doesn’t matter. Too happy”
You were enjoying your moment with Seungkwan, until Joshua spoke up. You’d forgotten he was there, honestly.
Joshua: “That’s great and all but I’m gonna go contemplate my entire life up until this point, so bye guys”
Seungkwan: “Bye Joshua”, Seungkwan replied instantly, not really caring, and nuzzling his face into your neck.
This is not how you thought your day would go but you were definitely glad that it did.
A handful of days later, while you and Seungkwan were talking, he asked you if you’d meet him in the divination room at three o’clock later that day, and that he needed your help with something.
Obviously, you said yes, but when you made the climb up to Seungkwan’s “Magical Divination Station”, you did not expect Jeon Wonwoo, of all people to be getting his fortune read.
Him and Seungkwan looked like they were in the middle of a heated discussion, and you almost felt like you were interrupting something, but you awkwardly made your way inside the tent and sat down in the seat next to Wonwoo.
Wonwoo: “Oh thank goodness, someone who will listen to reason. Y/N, tell him that this tea leaf reading thing is based off of vague probability and nothing actually tangible”
If looks could kill, the daggers you were staring straight into Seungkwan would have him drop dead right there. He really brought you up here to mediate the questioning of his credibility, with W o n w o o.
You: “Wonwoo, is this your first reading?”
Seungkwan: “This is his first reading. He told me that my fortune telling wasn’t accurate so I asked him to come in and see for himself”
You: “Is your name Wonwoo? No- I didn’t think so”, you snapped, not pleased about being surprised with this.
With that statement, Seungkwan stopped talking. Turning to Wonwoo, you continued.
You: “It looks like Seungkwan already told you your fortune, so if it doesn’t prove itself true within two weeks, I officially grant you bragging rights in saying that this is a sham. But if your fortune is accurate, you drop this whole argument completely- are we clear?”
Wonwoo: “Sounds fair to me. Good luck, Seungkwan. With the fortune, and with them”
You waited until you heard the sound of Wonwoo going down the stairs to turn back to Seungkwan.
Seungkwan: “I’m sorry, I just knew that he was going to try and discredit me and that you’re smart and you’d know how to handle it and-”
You: “Seungkwan, it’s fine. Just warn me next time and I’ll prepare a better defense”
And that’s how you got the role of sustaining Seungkwan’s credibility, aka talking anyone out of disagreeing with him.
Also, yes. Jeonghan and Joshua did end up dating #JiHan
You and Seungkwan are definitely the better Hufflepuff x Ravenclaw couple though, hands down.

the baseball diamond
Tumblr media
pairing: kim mingyu x reader genre: fluff; high school au! word count: 2100 + admin: jun a/n: i’m not making a part two to this, just warning in advance. i hope you all enjoy, and to the anon who requested, i hope you enjoy. c:
There was one thing you believed in strongly, and that was the fact that everybody had something they were good at. Painting, chemistry, writing, you name it. The one you were good at was a simple sport called baseball. Because you grew up with two brothers that were very sport orientated, you were good at a lot of sports, but baseball was the one that stuck with you the most throughout your childhood.
Of course, it was not your main focus in school though. As much as you enjoyed it, you needed to focus on getting your grades up, being the mediocre student you were in high school. You needed decent marks to get into a decent university of college, so you can live a decent life.
That didn’t stop you from joining the baseball game that was happening during lunch. Only boys seemed to be playing, but they were one player short. At first, you had been very reluctant with joining, but all you could think was “Now or never.” So on you went, walking down the steps of the second floor and making your way out of the building and then to the field.
Walking over, you knew exactly who you were working with. Choi Seungcheol, Yoon Jeonghan, Hong Jisoo, Wen Junhui, Kwon Soonyoung, Jeon Wonwoo, Lee Jihoon, Lee Seokmin, Kim Mingyu, Xu Minghao, Boo Seungkwan, Chwe Hansol, and Lee Chan. You could hear them bickering about who they wanted on their team from meters away. You walked up to them rather awkwardly, since you felt out of place with a bunch of super fit, baseball-playing boys. You didn’t let that bring you down, though, since you felt like you were good enough to play with them.
“Hello…” You said, walking up behind the tallest of the group. He turned towards you, looking down to look at you with a surprised face.
“Yes?” He asked in English as if he was the boss of this group. His hair was perfectly tossed, just like salad, and his tan skin and the little mole on his cheek made him all the more attractive to you. Not to mention, he made you boring school uniform look like it could be worn on a runway.
“I see that you guys are down one player… may I join?’ You asked him kindly, smiling at him. He seemed even more confused now.
“Wait, you want to join this game? With 13 guys?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at you. You nodded slowly, raising an eyebrow yourself. Now, from what you knew about Mingyu, he wasn’t a half bad guy. Very humble and seemingly all the girls in your grade had some sort of admiration for him. You even admired him for his gentlemanly ways. “Yeah, I don’t think so.”
Well, until now. You frowned a bit, although you weren’t hurt by his words. It was only normal for a boy to think of a girl as lesser when it comes to sports. As your brothers told you, ‘believe in yourself no matter how mean people are.’ That was the one piece of advice that stuck to you like glue.
“What, don’t like the idea of a girl beating you in your sport?” You asked him, crossing your arms over your chest and staring up at his eyes. Yep. Up. Because he was that abnormally tall for a high school student.
“What? No. We all know I could beat you.” He said, chuckling at your words. You felt your cheeks warm up a bit, probably from anger.
“Then you should have no problem with me joining the opposing team… who seem to have one less player.” You told him with a devilish grin on your face.
You were already walking over to the oldest male in the group when Mingyu started talking again. “Okay, fine. You can go on Cheol hyung’s team.” You waved your hand dismissively at him, wanting to acquaint yourself with your new team members. They were already looking at you, impressed from the nerve you had to stick up to Mingyu.
On this team, there was Seungcheol, Jeonghan, Minghao, Junhui, Seokmin, and Hansol, which you were not mad about.
“Hello,” You exclaimed, reaching a hand out to whoever wanted to shake it. “I’m F/N L/N. It’s nice to meet you and I look forward to playing with you all.” They each individually shook your hand and you all talked for a little bit with everyone, just to get to know one another a little better. Especially you, because you’ve only known them based on rumors you’ve heard around the school. They were talked about a lot.
“Okay, let’s start! First batter up!” Mingyu yelled. You grabbed the bat, and walked up to the base, kicking at it and then getting ready. You could see Mingyu scoff from however far away he was, and you rolled your eyes. You knew he thought a girl couldn’t play against him and all of his friends, but your team made it clear they thought otherwise, and just the thought of their approval was making you giggle under your breath.
Mingyu then lowered himself a bit, his eyes squinting in your direction as he held the ball behind his back and his baseball glove against his chest. You felt cold sweat start to form on your forehead and the back of your neck. You could also feel the movements of the catcher trying to find a good spot for Mingyu to throw as if you were a motion sensor. It was really weird. He then raised the ball up, pulling his leg up as well in the process, and threw the ball at you with full force. Just by the quick distortion of his face you could tell he screwed up the pitch and now the ball was heading directly for your bat, so you swung, hitting the ball with a loud ‘ting’. You watched it fly just a little ways past the outfielders, and you started laughing, jogging along all the bases as your team cheered loudly for you.
The pitcher was glaring daggers at you with his deep brown eyes and you stuck your tongue out of him. You ran back to your team, letting them all embrace you and thank you for being on their team. Damn, you were feeling good about yourself now. This was going to be a story you told your brothers when you got home.
The rest of the game went smoothly, each team coming up with the total of 7 runs, which meant… it was a tie. Neither you or Mingyu were satisfied with this and were willing to play on longer, but the bell rang loudly. You sighed unhappily and panicked a bit as you saw Mingyu stomping over to you angrily.
“This is not over.” He told you directly, grabbing his bad from his bench and walking off into the school.
“Don’t worry about him,” Chan said, walking up behind you. You turned towards him, straightening up and giggling awkwardly. “He gets unnecessarily competitive,” he explained, shaking his head and laughing before walking you to your class.
You had really enjoyed playing baseball with all the guys, and they seemingly all (except Mingyu) enjoyed playing with you. You invited almost every day during lunch to play with them, and you never refused, since it over satisfied you more and more when Mingyu got angry every time he couldn’t get the ball past you.
You two had somehow been labeled as enemies, which you never really understood because as much Mingyu hated you, he would almost always greet you in the hallways while passing by. It didn’t take you long to realize he was just maintaining his image.
Although you never wanted to, you grew to hate him just as much as he hated you, but for none of the same reasons as far as you were concerned. He was always so fake around you while in the school. Super cheery and happy and kind, but as soon as you guys were on the baseball diamond, not one insult was left unsaid by him, You had enough of his childish behaviour.
One day, as he was passing by you in the hallways, he tilted his head towards you with a kind smile. “Hello, Y/N!”
You nodded your head in return but then stopped walking for a second before turning around, running to him, grabbing his arm and dragging him into the janitor’s closet which was conveniently placed right beside you in this scenario.
“Hey-- what the hell?!” He whisper-yelled at you, pressing his back against the shelves that held the toilet paper while you slammed the door shut… carefully.
“Why are you like this?” You asked him, also in a whisper-yell voice. Your hands were on your hips and you were leaning towards him, but you two were about a foot away.
“What do you mean, why am I like this?” The look of confusion on his face genuinely screwed with your brain. Maybe he actually wanted to be nice to you? You shook your head, frowning a bit.
“You’re always so nice to me in the hallways, but as soon as we’re on the field you’re a complete ass to me,” you said angrily, crossing your arms over your chest. “I want to be friends, but I can’t tell which of your emotions are real.” You mumbled sadly, looking down at your feet. When you looked back up to his face, he looked so genuinely sad from what you said. You pouted a bit.
“I don’t want to mean, seriously… it’s just that you get along so well all the guys and they always rub it in my face. I want to be friends as well… I really do!” He admitted, moving forward and standing up straight to show you he was serious he was. You blinked, nodding quickly at his words.
“Okay, okay. I believe you.” You said, holding your hands to make him stop.
After that, you two really did become friends. On the field, he now encouraged you to join his team sometimes, and whenever you were on the opposite team, he would cheer for you anytime you hit a home run.
In the halls of the school, he would raise his hand a high five or he would take you aside for a pleasant conversation before walking you to class and rushing to his class so he wouldn’t be late.
It didn’t take you long to realize you were falling for him, fast and hard. You never really believed in high school romance, but for some reason, it was becoming more and more real every time you saw him. It was hard to tell if he liked you as well, and you couldn’t gain the courage to ask one of the guys, simply because you didn’t want him to get teased because of you again. You never thought of it becoming any more than just this high school crush.
One day, as you were walking out of the school to go home, Mingyu called out to you.
“Y/N! Wait!” He yelled out, swinging his backpack onto both of your shoulders and running to catch up to you.
“Hey…” You said, laughing at the way he ran up to you. Your hands automatically hooked in front of your body and let yourself swing around awkwardly, waiting for him to continue on with the conversation since that was kind of his thing.
“Okay, okay… I know this is kind of weird but… I was wondering if you would like to go out for lunch or dinner or something with me on the weekend?” He asked, looking down to his shoes as you two walked. Your eyes widened, and you tried to process what he had just asked you.
“Yeah, I would love to.” You quickly replied without thinking twice. He now looked to you with wide eyes when you agreed. The most precious smile broke out onto his face.
He then walked you all the way to your house without even realizing and looked to his watch in panic, since it ended up being a lot later than he thought. He embraced you in a hug and then ran as fast as he can, calling his mother to apologize for being so late. You laughed, walking into your house, You greeted your own mother and went upstairs to freshen up. You sat down on your bed, sighing softly.
You were just hoping this high school turned out to be worth it… otherwise, you would have to start beating him more on the baseball diamond.

Hello can I have a Christmas mistletoe for Vernon of svt? Thank you very much!
Thank you for your request! I’m glad I was able to get this done before Xmas! As always, I really hope you enjoy this! Please excuse any possible mistakes. Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Admin Rex
You were debating if every choice you made leading up this moment was worth it or not. Presently, you were standing with burning hot cheeks next to Vernon - whom you were currently dating - under the mistletoe. Seungkwan had extended the invitation to this little Christmas party after he declared Vernon was definitely not going to. You weren’t expecting your group of friends to ambush you and Vernon to get you under the mistletoe.
Before all this, you were chatting a storm up with Minghao and Vernon was busy playing a party game with Seungcheol, Wonwoo, and Mingyu. Afterwards, there was a singing competition, though it was clear that it was gonna end as a tie between Seungkwan and Seokmin. Soonyoung wanted to hold a dance competition next, but it was dominated by him, Junhui, Minghao, and Chan.
You next spotted your boyfriend with Jihoon. They seemed to be having a relatively jolly conversation, judging by the way they were both cackling. You spotted Jeonghan saying something to Mingyu, who grinned in his distinctly goofy way. Joshua came up to you, smile as angelic as ever.
“Hey, (Y/N)! Haven’t been able to talk to you yet.” His voice was soft, but loud enough to be heard over the Christmas Carol playing from the TV in the background.
“Hello, Joshua. It’s pretty wild, even though that’s honestly normal for us.” You ended up talking about all sorts of things for 10 minutes before he broke the conversation, his eyes barely flicking past your shoulder.
“Let’s refill our cups?” You nodded and began walking beside him to the table with snacks and pitchers of different drinks. Joshua suddenly stopped walking, and you noticed a few steps too late. You whipped around to question Joshua and were instead met with three extra pairs of eyes.
Seungkwan had a devilish grin, Soonyoung’s own expression was equally as diabolical. Seokmin had an eager smile, but it only had honest intent behind it. Joshua smiled at you apologetically, so you turned to see what trap you’d been led into.
Right in front of you, Vernon stood, his smile very sheepish. The rest of your friends grinned back at you from behind him. Overhead, a single mistletoe being held by Mingyu. Everything seemed to freeze as the cold realization ran through you.
“Jeonghan!” You sighed, your hand coming up to hide your red cheeks. Vernon ‘s face was incredibly red, clear evidence of his own embarrassment. All this was why you were currently considering why you became friends with the people who set up this trap. You knew this could either be dragged on forever, or ended as quickly as it started. The eyes of your friends burned as you came to a decision.
You took the lead and leaned forward as quickly as you could without letting your face smack painfully into Vernon‘s. And, you pressed a small peck onto his burning cheek. The room burst into excitement; Soonyoung and Seokmin instantly began to let out shrieks, Seungkwan began to commentate the kiss, Seungcheol and Jeonghan let out loud whoops and hollers. Joshua and the rest began to clap - with the exception of Chan, who only exaggeratedly groaned and covered his eyes - and Mingyu was laughing loudly. You did the first thing that came to mind; jabbed the giant in the side. Mingyu doubled over and dropped the offending mistletoe.
The group dispersed once Jeonghan ran forward and grabbed the mistletoe. No one else wanted to suffer the same fate you and Vernon had.
“Sorry about that, (Y/N). I didn’t think they’d pull anything like that.” Vernon had stepped towards you to talk. “It’s fine, Vernon. At least they accepted the kiss on the cheek.”
Vernon looked to be blushing a darker shade of red when you mentioned that. He nodded and grabbed your hand and placed a small kiss on your cheek. “Payback.” He murmured.
You both laugh a little at the whole ordeal - and your screaming friends - before smiling softly at each other.
“Merry Christmas, (Y/N).”

omg the christmas ask had me thinking: how would seventeen act if they were meeting your family?
Assuming they were invited for dinner…
S.Coups- the most….. natural boyfriend ever- talks as if he’s known your family forever- gets along with them all, loved by everyone- bonds with your dad over puns and dad jokes- holds your hand under the table
Jeonghan- when they saw jeonghan, they were like APPROVED 100% W O W- wins your family’s heart in .234517 seconds- offers to help with dinner or the dishes- “where…… did you find this perfect man…….”
Joshua- gentleman- you know when people describe someone as “the type of boy you bring home”?- joshua hong started that- super polite and kind and cute and??? an actual angel- acts really natural, but when you leave he’s all like “did they hate me?? omg i feel like i disappointed them??”- no he didn’t- your family loves him and asks about him every day
Jun- shocks your parents with his handsomeness- does super cool tricks without realizing throughout the meeting- like easily catching the plate of food that almost fell to the floor- and doing a kip up to get back on his feet when he slipped and fell- impresses your parents by just breathing- “WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY FOREVER”
Hoshi- excitedly greets your family- exchanges embarrassing stories about you with them- talks nonstop….. actually never runs out of things to say- his face lights up when your mom brings the food to the table- nervousness hits him halfway through and he starts sweating profusely- jokes about coming back for dinner the next day- but your parents are like “COME BACK ANYTIME”
Wonwoo- stiff LOL- “make yourself at home” “thank you (remains stiff)”- perfect posture- perfect table etiquette- perfect manners- speaks REALLY formally because he wants to appear as polite as possible
Woozi- robotic- probably wrote down an entire paragraph and memorized it to say to your family- really quiet at the dinner table because he’s scared he’s going to say something to make them hate him- suddenly gets super passionate when he talks about writing music- gets embarrassed for babbling and apologizes a lot
DK- L O U D- screams about how excited he was to meet them- doesn’t stop smiling the entire night- makes jokes the entire time and makes everyone laugh- does body gags, nearly knocks over your mom’s china collection
Mingyu- makes the PERFECT first impression- “you didn’t tell us you were dating a model????”- helps your mom make dinner WOW MINGYU- compliments your mom’s cooking, eats everything- probably spilled the pitcher of water while trying to pass it to your parents

Seungkwan- wears a suit let’s be real- bows every two seconds- brings a gift for your parents- super nervous, but hides it by babbling about anything that comes to mind- LOVES the food, flatters your mom when she sees how much he’s eating- probably practiced in front of the mirror for three hours in different tones- probably also got seokmin and hoshi to pretend to be the parents so he could practice
Vernon- awkward- everyone can tell he’s really nervous- the actual meme “(in his mind) act natural” “(out loud) today how you are”- was holding his breath the entire time- “i thought….. i was going to die….”
