FP/A-77 Gundam Pharact
“Oh man, this Gundam series takes place in high school. Surely there won’t be any terrible deaths, or heinous war crimes. Nope, it’ll probably be like a slightly darker Re:Rise; a few big shock moments, but overall smooth sailing...”
Oh, how young and naive I was. Not that I don’t like Witch, because I do, but I am very much someone who enjoys shows targeted at younger demographics because when they deal with those kinds of topics they’re normally not as visceral or mean spirited. Sometimes I feel like kids’ shows deal with those topics were more gravitas and grace then most adult programming. Elan’s death, for instance, does serve a functional story purpose, but it’s also partly for shock, and doesn’t really serve to further any characters along their paths (at least not in S1). Look, I’m not saying I wanted a high school mecha romcom, but I think I would have been a happier, if a slightly less challenged person if I did get a high school mecha romcom.
The Good: Good posability, good balance, neat backpack, doesn’t try and overextend by requiring the Beam Arquebus to be held in two hands. Also, with how the arms and legs both have features that have them clamp open and closed, I feel like they could be the base for some very creative customs.
The Bad: This kit feels somewhat designed to encourage you to buy the The Witch From Mercury Weapon Display Base, or just a stand in general. It doesn’t come with one, and one is basically required to actively display any of its several feet-related gimmicks. Also, the Corax have no display options without the aforementioned upgrade set; they have no pegs or holes, and their adapter piece comes with the upgrade, not with the main kit. Furthermore they’re small, so having anything hold onto them is very difficult and doesn’t look great.
The Details: Black panel lining and fill for the most part, and I filled in all the clear covered sections in metallic red to match the stickers I didn’t use.
Overall, it’s not the best kit, but it’s a smart one. It has some interesting engineering, some neat gimmicks, and a unique design. Unfortunately, it also feels like it was designed to push an upgrade set when it really didn’t need to. I would only recommend if you like the suit/pilot or have a specific custom in mind for it. High Grade Witch has much more interesting kits than this one.
