Hey i have seen them getting more popular on tumblr and interacting with a lot of you guys and I want to let you know that floof9000 is a very unsavory individual. They have abused multiple birds and I think they may still be a minor? (Or not anymore? Its been a few years) so i suggest you just block and do not engage in any way. Yes this person has been reported but unfortunately their target of choice doesn't have many protections and they are actively enabled.
My biggest fear with them is that them interacting with people on here will give them legitimacy so they could possibly get their hands on more rescue birds or at risk birds which they have a history of making disappear or abusing. They sometimes stalk and harass people (and rescues) with their partner as well which is why I think everyone should just block and ignore.
DO NOT sell them any birds or point out any at risk birds to them or give them any breeding advice. I firmly believe this person should not have access to animals.
You guys know I normally do not make these kinds of posts lightly or often but I am growing concerned at the number of casual interactions with bird blogs I'm seeing from them. I'm making this post unrebloggable so it doesn't escape containment please keep yourself and your birds safe by blocking them.

They have this habit of getting birds then the bird will get sick or have strange behavior then it disappears like what happened to Puffin the bird above. I think it's a cycle stemming from the positive attention they get on social media.
This person admitted to letting their pigeon eat foreign objects but the objects he mentioned are not possible for a pigeon to be able to naturally try to eat such as coins and baby carrots
They also likely plucked Puffin because it's true that pigeons can have severe molts in the neck area but it very rarely looks so uniform and there would be no reason for the skin to be inflamed and bruised.
I suggest just blocking this person and moving on I have known about this behavior since 2020 and I have seen nothing that suggests this person has changed.

Confusing bird times 😵
I called a local place to see if they would see pigeons, and they said yes but I would need a hunting license. I asked even if they're from a breeder and they said yes. This is in Texas btw.
I've been scouring the internet looking to see anything about this and nothing comes up.
I called a place in Austin to ask the same thing (since maybe the local place just doesn't know what they're talking about) and they said they see pigeons, no mention of any licenses.
I'm debating asking another place to see what they say but I'm not sure.
Edit: Asked a third place and specifically mentioned about the license and they said that's not a thing. I might call the local place back and mention that the other places didn't say anything about licenses...

[Image ID: A photograph, taken through aviary mesh, of a pair of pigeons inside a loft. One of them is a white old german owl pigeon, the other is a grey turkish tumbler. They are laying, very relaxed, around a small, brightly coloured xylophone. End ID]
so, my camera is still broken, so i have not been taking many photos, however, i borrowed a phone to take this quick shot of the birds (Seagull and Pigeon) not understanding how to use their new toy, right before i went out to wash the loft because, you guys, the poops that pigeons do when they’re sitting on eggs are disgusting. no one prepared me.
the four eggies have been swapped for pingpong balls (and candled to verify that they are unfertilised) and are still being cared for by all three birds, although they have some sort of hinge thing going on, because Pigeon is only allowed in the nest when Seagull is in it- Sparrow chases her off. Seagull, you slut.
the birds have been enjoying the winter weather- as soon as it starts raining they run out to bathe, or stand on the most exposed perches and get really sodden. during a recent storm, Seagull found a spot under a broken gutter that absolutely pelted her with water and stood under the waterfal like a swimsuit model. comfortable!

is it ok to just grab a pigeon from outside and keep is as a pet or would that be cruel? Cuz I've seen some people say "it's not good for them emotionally" but some others say that "pigeons don't have the capacity to comprehend complicated emotions and so its perfectly fine".
Like i know im going to sound mean and upset some people in pigeon rescue when i say this but just yoink the pigeon.
If they have a mate and squabs out there yeah that sucks but your still removing an invasive feral breeding age animal that is going to THRIVE and be way happier "emotionally" in human care then it would be out on the streets eating garbage and being killed by birds of prey, cars, poison, ect. I know some people really romanticize feral pigeon pair bonds but to that pigeon's mate they might as well be dead from the myriad of other reasons that would make their mate disappear. Contrary to popular belief pigeons also don't mate for life either so being taken is a great benefit to the bird you choose to rescue. Yes they might be upset and frantic at first but thats how ANY feral animal suddenly put into captivity for the first time will act.
I think the reason people discourage it is because rescues would rather focus on more adoptable birds like younger squabs, fledglings, and "fancy" looking birds that are easier to adopt out then a feral that was caught as an adult. You can still bond with an adult feral pigeon it just takes patience and understanding of the life they lived before. The biggest problem people run into is pushing their rescues boundaries and trying to handle them to soon which stresses out the bird and makes people rationalize abandoning them again by saying they were happier outdoors which is something i disagree with.
A feral pigeon's average lifespan on the streets is three to five years. The average lifespan of a pet pigeon is 15 years. That is a huge difference.

Bucky! A curious little imp.
They are so silly! They wanted to explore and did not want to stay still! That’s okay, little one!
Part of the reason why we use things like the Photo Booth is to expose our youngsters to novel/new situations! It helps us learn which birds are best suited to which homes for our adopters. Bucky is very outgoing and curious, and can be a little bit of a trickster - whereas birds like Autumn (below) are much more reserved and slower to approach a new situation.
Tumblr media
When a bird seems too shut down or at all apprehensive of the new experience, we remove them from the situation and let them calm down. It’s all on their terms! It also gives them a chance to learn that new things aren’t always scary or bad.
