Tens of thousands of people across Israel joined the families of hostages this weekend to protest against the government and call for the removal of Benjamin Netanyahu, as the Israeli prime minister grappled with one of the most serious threats yet to his coalition.
The protesters in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Be’er Sheva, Caesarea and other cities on Saturday – and at a further demonstration outside the Knesset in Jerusalem on Sunday – demanded the release of those still held captive in Gaza after close to six months, and labelled Netanyahu an “obstacle to the deal”, vowing to persist until he leaves power.

Honestly the idea that the Palestinian refugee crisis needed to be/needs to be treated differently than other refugee crises because resettling Palestinians elsewhere and granting them citizenship will somehow negate their Palestinianness and/or legitimize the Nakba is kind of insulting to Palestinians.
You think a Palestinian refugee whose grandparents fled to, say, Lebanon would be less Palestinian if they got Lebanese citizenship and fully incorporated into Lebanese society? You think Edward Said was less Palestinian because he was also American?
As for legitimizing the Nakba, a lot of shitty things happened to a lot of peoples in the mid-20th century, and for quite a lot of them they still are able and willing to kvetch about it. If you think being resettled would force Palestinians to shut up about the Nakba, you haven’t been paying attention to how the Palestinian diaspora talks about the Nakba.

An Israeli airstrike on an agrochemical warehouse during last year’s war in Gaza amounted to the “indirect deploying of chemical weapons”, according to a report analysing the attack and its impact.
Incendiary artillery shells fired by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) hit the large Khudair Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Tools warehouse in the north of the Gaza Strip on 15 May last year, setting fire to hundreds of tonnes of pesticides, fertilisers, plastics and nylons. The strike created a toxic plume, which engulfed an area of 5.7 sq km and has left local residents struggling with health issues, including two reports of miscarriages, and indications of environmental damage.
The extensive investigation, which involved analysing mobile phone and drone footage and CCTV, dozens of interviews with residents, and analysis from munitions and fluid dynamics experts, used 3D modelling of the warehouse to determine the circumstances of the attack.

Zeelim army base in southern Israel is known officially as the Urban Warfare Training Centre. But to some soldiers, it is known as Mini Gaza, simulating a Palestinian urban area with 500 buildings and narrow alleyways adorned with murals and posters honouring slain fighters Source link
