SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
9.9, Palccoyo Rainbowmountain
Für heute stand die Tour zum Palccoyo Mountain an, eine alternative Tour zum berühmten Rainbowmountain.
Man hatte zwar am Ende nicht "das" Bild vorm Rainbowmountain, dafür war es aber wesentlich weniger touristisch (noch!) und man hatte nicht nur einen Rainbowmountain, sondern gleich drei! Außerdem war die Wanderung dorthin wesentlich weniger anstrengend. Wir hatten ja auch noch unseren großen Trek vor uns, und wollten daher noch ein bisschen Kräfte sparen;)
Da es heute auf 5000 m ging, besorgten wir uns vorher noch Tabletten aus der Apotheke gegen die Höhenkrankheit. Es ist zwar die teurere Travelervariante, aber nachdem wir hörten, dass bei der richtigen Anwendung vom Kokablätter-Kauen das halbe Gesicht taub wird, erschien es uns als die angenehmere Variante.
Auf der Höhe gibt es nur noch halb so viel Sauerstoff und das merkte man direkt bei den ersten Metern, wir mussten ganz schön schnauben …
Die Landschaft war aber atemberaubend und surreal zugleich.
Die Farben entstehen durch überlagerte Mineralien. Diese Sedimentschichten, die sich über Jahrmillionen gebildet haben, wurden durch Plattentektonik von einer waagerechten in eine fast senkrechte Position gedrückt.
Die Rainbowmountains wurden erst ca. vor 50 Jahren entdeckt als sie durch geschmolzene Gletscher freigelegt wurden.
