things that are (probably) true now that we have canon birthdates for the oxenfree characters
the events of the original oxenfree take place on june 4th, 2016. if taken into town, nona reveals that her birthday is in 3 days. since we now know that her birthday is june 7th, and that lost signals takes place 5 years afterwards in 2021, we finally know the exact day the first game happens. yay!
clarissa's birthday happens to fall on the same day that anna was killed. as maggie writes in adler letter 9, april 4th is the day in 1952 that she and anna tried to bring the sunken back.
last year, ren went to the movie theater and watched oppenheimer with nona (and clarissa) because she wanted to see it, even though he wanted to go see barbie, and it was his birthday that day.

Finished my first playthrough of lost signals, stats and thoughts below:
1. Told Nick to avoid the portal, gave Maria advice, got Evelyn home safely, saved Shelley by telling her not to leave, helped Hank with the photo + shoe.
2. Was friendly with Violet and Charlie but didn’t get the achievements for it, though they both sided with me, and my final stats said I befriended them but Olivia left Camena
3. I alienated Olivia this run, and next run I’m gonna try to befriend her
4. I found all the letters
5. I had Riley enter the portal (next run the plan is to be Olivia, idk how anyone can pick Jacob, poor Athena 🥺)
This was GREAT. I can’t believe we got to not just hear from Alex, but actually bring her back??? !!! Wow. Ugh she is still one of my fave game characters ever, I loved her in this as well.
I picked Riley to stay because I felt bad that she’d have to have two bad parent/child relationships in her life, and she really didn’t have much in the way of contacts, and I wanted Rex to get to be happy too. But tbh that was a super hard choice, cause Olivia really did seem to want to stay. Next run I’ll let her.
As great as the adaptive scoring is, I miss having songs from the soundtrack stuck in my head, and I don’t have that from my first playthrough at least. No music during the credits either, which is disappointing, I love the credits music from the first game.
Now, questions:
Do you think all the kids from game 1 were trapped? They didn’t talk much, just Alex, which made me think it was just Alex and her memories of them. But I guess you could read it either way. In which case, are they all free of it now or just Alex? And did Alex just pop back into existence? Had she been missing, or not remembered? Did she pop back in at the same age she was, or did she suddenly have false memories of the five years she was gone, or did she pop back to the night she disappeared and just never disappeared?
There’s an achievement called
Which looks like it involves talking to a younger Jacob on the radio or walkie. How? My only thought right now is maybe checking the radio and walkie after setting the garland tear to 1990? Or something like that? I need to figure how to do that.
I also need to figure out why I didn’t pop achievements for making friends with violet and Charlie even though they both defended me against olivia. And I need to figure out how to befriend Olivia. Let her do the thing in the community center, I guess? I broke her radio on my first playthrough.

Did anyone else playing Oxenfree Lost Signals feel chilled to the bone when it's confirmed Riley is talking to the "ghosts" of Alex and the gang at Parentage? I know at the end of the original game it is implied they are stuck in a time loop on Edwards Island but having it confirmed I feel so shook and sad that Alex has just been trapped reliving the same night for the past 5 years. I'm not done the game yet but I really hope there's a way you can help free them without hurting anyone else, because if there's not that's so cursed and haunting.

I stayed up too late finishing Oxenfree II last night and I regret my decisions. But also.
(Spoilers and feelings under the cut)
The scene with Riley and adult Rex did things to me I can’t properly articulate.
All the parts of Rex that he got from Riley, for better or worse, make up who is is. “And I like who I am,” he says.
Riley did her best. She loved her son. She tried to be a good mother. And it wasn’t enough; she failed him. But—
“I like who I am.”
And there he is propping her up and calling her out and pushing her forward, telling her to take her own advice. Absolutely in charge, like he deserves to be. Like he never should have had to be.
The person he sees in everything he does is the person who loved him the most is the person who failed him the worst. That’s not something you can understand; it’s just something that is. You can’t cut it out of you. He will have to live with that. I will have to live with that.
Agh.

i dont understand how neither riley nor jacob commented on how she told them she didnt know riley and to stop calling unless it was an emergency.. it makes little sense when they comment on absolutely everything else. it just easily gets shoved off when i was sat there like WHAT?? WHY??

so i finally sat down and played lost signals for 7 hours straight today, heres a collection of doodles i did last night watching some friends play one for the first time and then after my lost signals playthrough, i, Man
i really enjoyed it but i cant like find the words, i need to play it ten more times and see every variation but God that ending was just a gut punch, none of them felt Right and i can't believe that all this time alex let herself become lime the sunken, just, God what a game

oxenfree is a really fun video game to play when you're dense as hell and can't puzzle solve for shit. I'm on my fifth loop and I'm still just mashing "BE NICE TO CHARACTER" dialogue options over and over while crying and hoping SOMETHING will click in my cobweb brain if I just hear the same dialogue a twelvtheleventh time. sincerely most fun and immersive timeloop simulator of all time

thinking about oxenfree again. thinking about the tragedy of it all because you can do all you want and there’s a techinical ending where you get out of the loop but we all know that the alex we know is forever trapped on the island. maybe we helped another but our alex is still stuck. you can be the worst person ever and it wont matter to anyone but you and alex a bit. you can get your brother back from the dead but do you want to lose your new relationship with your new stepbrother? and in the end it doesn’t fucking matter. you can get ren and nona together you can kill clarissa you can save clarissa you can do everything right and in the end it still doesn’t matter. you are stuck on the goddamn island with the ghosts and with alex and alex is the only one who remembers the timeloop ever.
