this is a stretch but. remember how genshin was supposed to last for 5 years and then they decided to make it last for 10 years instead? everyone was pissed because they thought it would be an additional 5 years of fillers, but it's only now that i realise... there's no way they can think of 5 more years of fillers. and, honestly, if they were going to fill things up with fillers, they didn't have to announce an end.

i think. and this is me being very daring, but i think the additional 5 years is meant to be space to explore the lore of dragon sovereigns. they could have had this lore with them since the very beginning but weren't sure that people were interested. but since they realised how big of a hit the game was, maybe they could finally expand on the lore they have.

idk. i guess it's because playing genshin from the start in this point of time, i noticed how little we know of dragon sovereigns. and now not only do we have enkanomiya lore, kokomi (who was redesigned, btw, and her redesign heavily influenced by* enkanomiya lore) being a reincarnate of a dragon theory, we met a few other dragon sovereigns, but we also have a playable dragon sovereign?? idk. i feel like all these developments were only possible if they decided early in the game "hey, maybe we can expand on this" because development takes years (i.e. underwater first pitched around the start of the game). the focus was on archons at the start and now it's about dragons.
