Thanks for answering the art ask! I love hearing others’ thought processes. How do you usually personally approach character creation? Do you usually have a preset idea in mind and design around it, or does inspiration usually come from out of the blue? :)
ya no prob, i love hearing other ppls creative process stuff a lot too :') tysm
character creation isssssss not a streamlined process cause how and why i make a character changes a lot! sometimes it starts with picking some kind of occupation or hobby that i want the character to be focused on, sometimes it's just an overall style of dress/aesthetic that i want to create a design for and develop the personality next etc... a lot of characters here ive made specifically to fill quads w other ppls characters or fit into specific roles i wanted (ie. with fleet guys or my church trolls its like 'well i want someone to do x thing in y faction') and outside of fantroll stuff most of my ocs nowadays are just ttrpg guys where i tend to pick a class first and then race and then general characterization and design that are really informed by that class choice.
so its kind of like "get inspired/want to have [thing], build the rest around that" whether the thing starts off as design or personality or What The Character Does or smth... it's a different start every time! usually figuring the actual design out is a very early step tho since i am an artist and drawing them helps me really kind of figure them out and what they LOOK like is really important to me......... i do a lot of pinteresting also either finding fashion refs/inspiration or just putting together #aesthetic boards for characters a lot (the amount of times 'what would the moodboard look like' has affected my dnd character creation process.. good lord)
also its partly just preference and wanting things to be really coherent and Thematic but also partly Been Making Homestuck Troll Characters For 10 Years disease BUT deciding on a pretty limited color scheme to stick to all the time both in design And in like moodboards and whatnot is really important to me also lol
