way back like last year i saw a big oc spaghetti relationship chart and was inspired to make my own. basically the only thing of mine large enough to accommodate such an endeavor is cliffside. 75% of the way through i realized i shouldve made this in a flowchart maker or something so i could organize it better. oh well, its got the important beats. im pretty sure ive drawn at least one picture of everyone here in the last decade or so (sans randy and marco, who only exist in Words)
cliffside! the aimless little soap opera in my head that i chip away at when im bored

The Best Mans Speech
For anon. Letters to Evans Universe. As always @elanev91 checkin my commas before I wreck myself on ffn
Tumblr media
Sirius Black fucking LOVED weddings.
Especially when his best mate was marrying his other best mate.
Sirius knew as soon as James exclaimed “ “A. GIRL! EVANS IS A GIRL?!?!” James Potter would marry Lily Evans.
It took for fucking ever though.
Sirius sat through months of angst before they even got together.
He helped Lily plot the most ridiculous surprise where she could snog James’ brains out.
He sat through harrowing days of “choosing the perfect ring Padfoot”.
He sat through every single bad proposal speech James prepared and played the role of Lily 15 times “for practice, Padfoot”.
He made it through setting every single rose petal on the path to the room where James would propose.
He contained himself from yelling “FOR FUCKS SAKE JUST ASK HER” as he crouched beside Remus in the closet during the proposal.
Through every single color scheme discussion.
Through every single catering argument.
Through awful cake tastings and through every single fucking dress Evans tried on (127 to be exact and Evans looked totally perfect in every single one).
And when fucking finally James Potter had asked him to be best man he felt like all his trials and tribulations had been worth it.
Because he, one Sirius Black, would get to make the best man's speech.
When they were seven, Lily and Sirius hosted a variety of complicated weddings after being the ring bear (Sirius misheard and everyone went with it) and flower girl for Lily’s cousin. They played a variety of roles but Sirius’ favorite was always the best man.
At Lily’s cousin’s wedding, the Best Man's Speech was the absolute best part of the entire wedding. Sirius remembered the whole day rather fondly. The ceremony was short- which was convenient because the bear suit was bloody hot and he had to stand still and quiet the entire time while Evans ignored him trying to make funny faces at her.
Then they had what felt like hours worth of photographs. Evans had to remind him several times, “They’re muggles the pictures won’t move- so stand still you baboon”
“I am a bear,” he argued- every time.
When the torture of the pictures was over- they moved to the reception. Sirius was relieved when he was able to take off the bear costume and eat some food. He and Evans danced and played with the other children. Until the speeches.
They heard the sound of a fork hitting a champagne glass and the speeches began. The maid of honor gave some weepy speech that made the bride cry, but then the best man took the stage.
It was hilarious. He told jokes, he told stories, and he made the entire reception hall laugh until they cried. Sirius had never seen something so beautiful.
Therefore, whenever he and Evans reenacted a wedding, he always got to do the Best Man's Speech. He had done many speeches for their fake weddings, but he knew this one- the real one- had to be absofuckinglutley perfect.
Evans, however, seemed worried.
She first broached the subject at her second dress fitting with a badly disguised, “So Sirius, how is the speech coming,” as the seamstress left the room
He shrugged it off and said, “Haven’t started.”
Lily narrowed her eyes at this, “Bullshit. You’ve been dreaming about this since you were the ring bear”
“You’re not really going to let the Weasley twins be ring bears are you?” Sirius scoffed
“Yes and they will be cuter than you were,” she huffed, turning to look at the back of her dress, “but stop deflecting. You cannot make your best mans speech about how we met!”
“What,” Sirius asked affronted
“You’ve got to find a new hiding place, Sirius. It’s been the same since we were 5,” Lily responded and then added, “does this hit my hips ok?”
“Prongs will wet himself. I’m almost attracted to you and well-“ he gestured vaguely, “But why were you going through my things?”
Lily rolled her eyes, “because I know you. I read...draft 13? I believe? Our origin story? Really that’s how you remember our meeting?”
“Yes those two vindictive little hooligans were attacking me…” Sirius started, but was interrupted
“The Ashley and Rebekah Incident is not our origin story,” Lily demanded
Putting a hand to his chest and inhaling deeply Sirius said, “You wound me. I know our origin story.”
Lily shook her head, “I’m sure you do, but The Ashley Rebekah Incident is not it”
“It isn’t,” Sirius demanded
“No! Now I’m going to get out of this dress and we’ll finish this argument over firewhiskey at my flat like normal and I’ll owl James to pick up curry,” Lily said and gestured for Sirius to hold up the train as she walked back to the dressing room
“Fine,” he whined, “But can we do gin and dubbonet instead?”
Dress returned to the seamstress for alterations, gin and dubbonet picked up, they made their way to Lily and James’ flat.
After arguing about the proper proportions for the cocktail, “But Queen Elizabeth doesn’t do it that way Lily!”
“Queen Elizabeth is a weak punk, Sirius. 50/50 is more delicious,” Lily retorted.
After winning the cocktail argument, Lily had to allow Sirius first storytelling rights on how they met.
“You’re going to be wrong,” she argued, “the Ashley Rebekah incident started after we were in school. We met before then!”
“I am not speaking about the time those harlots told us we were being too loud Lily! Although, that is how we discovered you were a witch. I still can’t believe your accidental silencing charm lasted a week,” Sirius responded
“Yeah well fucking call me loud see what happens,” Lily huffed and then took a sip of her cocktail
“Remember when they told you were being dramatic at that neighborhood Christmas party when we were 15,” he goaded her on
“YES! I fucking do! But they were being monsters and spoiling Star Wars. What kind of-”
“Evans. Focus. We hate Ashley and Rebekah. We know this. But I have to tell you our origin story,” Sirius explained
“I know our fucking origin story Sirius, we met on the playground and you were hiding behind the trees because you pissed your trousers and I carried a bush in front of you the whole way home so Ashley and Rebekah wouldn’t see you and make fun of you.”
“ALAS,” Sirius proclaimed in his lawyer voice, “THAT IS THE VERY BEGINNING OF THIS TALE, but that tragic event only spiraled into THE GREATEST FRIENDSHIP OF ALL TIME”
At this point, the front door opened and James Potter entered with several bags of take away curry.
James took one look at Sirius’ position and said, “Oh God, what is happening?”
“We are discussing the origin of my friendship with the soon to be Mrs. Potter,” Sirius gestured enthusiastically
“You mean when you pissed yourself and Lily protected you from some mean girls?” James asked
“NO!” Sirius exploded, “That twas only the beginning! I will continue once you’re settled Prongs”
Lily and James exchanged a look. James sighed, went to the kitchen to set down the curry and poured himself a drink. Once he settled next to Lily -Sirius began to pontificate.
“ONE DAY….Not too terribly long ago, one sad little Sirius Black ventured with his uncle to the local playground in order for him to try and make some friends,” he started and set the scene, “It was a sunny day. Full of promise and hope.”
Lily rolled her eyes so dramatically here Sirius stopped short, “Evans. Knock that shit off.”
Lily gestured for him to continue and he did gleefully.
“Well poor little Sirius Black was chubby and had trouble with his speech, so making friends was no easy task. His uncle encouraged him to approach two little girls who were playing on the swings. Sirius did that and was miraculously allowed into their game. He was so excited when they asked him to play hide and go seek he forgot that he was, in fact potty trained,” here Sirius had to stop talking because James Potter was giggling so hard tears were falling down his face
“DAMMIT PRONGS THIS IS TRAUMATIC AND YOU NEED TO STOP LAUGHING AT MY PAIN,” Sirius yelled
“Sorry, mate, I’ll get it together,” James swore solemnly.
“Good. Now- little Sirius was hiding behind the bushes when the accident happened. When he was almost discovered by the two girls his pride would not allow him to be seen with wet trousers so he called for help. A fiery redhead happened to be climbing in the tree near the bush and she descended and took pity on him. She waltzed over to his uncle and told him what happened and then protected him from humiliation by carrying the very bush he hid in to his house. But that is not how our friendship truly began,” he started to continue but was interrupted.
“YES IT IS” Lily bellowed, “That is how we met.”
“Tis true, fair Lily,” Sirius started, “but when we arrived at my house you called me a baby and told me ‘I can’t be friends with fat babies that pee their pants’”
“Holy shit I did,” Lily amended
“Yes. And I vowed I would never be friends with such a meanie,” Sirius continued, “but then we forged our friendship as many friendships are formed over a common enemy”
“Oh my god,” Lily started
“Yes-” Sirius told her
“THE FRUITCAKE INCIDENT!” they announced in unison.
“I hate when you do that,” James interjected
“I forgot about the Fruitcake Incident,” Lily said
“I, too- blocked it for a long time. It was one of the worst days of my life,” Sirius began
“Ugh- mine too. What a tragic day that was,” Lily told him and reached for his hand
“How the fuck are the two most dramatic people in the world the two most important people in my life?” James asked
The glares thrown his way shut him up, “Sorry, not dramatic...unlucky people who have survived much tragedy.”
“Damn right,” Sirius stated
“So the fruitcake incident?” James prompted, praying this would be over quickly
“Right well, young Sirius Black was dragged to the neighborhood Christmas party and forced into socialization with children his age. He was very nervous and worried that-”
“OH FOR FUCKS SAKE-” Lily interrupted, “We’ve already sat through one of these. We both got dragged to this terrible Christmas party and were dared by Ashley and Rebekah to steal, and then eat, an entire fruitcake each. Of course neither one of us can say no to a dare, so we did.”
Sirius continued, “Naturally it became a contest to see who could eat it the fastest. Lily and I tied. But Ashley and Rebekah didn’t eat a fucking bite.”
“Meanwhile, we started to get sick feeling because fruitcake is disgusting and we’d already eaten a ton of sweets before dinner,” Lily continued
“So we did what any normal child would do,” Sirius added
And then in unison, “We vomited all over Ashley and Rebekah’s new Christmas jumpers.”
“And then we were grounded for the rest of the holidays.” Sirius finished cheerfully
“How did that make you mates?” James asked bewildered
Scoffing, Lily answered, “Well obviously we were set up by them to vomit on them and then get grounded. So we made it our mission to take them down. And discovered we were actually well suited for each other. I apologized for calling him a baby and the rest is history”
“Anyway, Evans, that's the story going in my best man’s speech,” Sirius announced
“NO!” Lily demanded, “No bodily functions at my wedding. We don’t need the ring bears getting any ideas.”
“Remind me again why we aren’t having ring bearers- is the ring bear a muggle custom or-” James asked for the hundredth time
“No- but it is important to me,” Lily argued back again, “Sirius- I am vetoing draft 13. Try again”
Sirius started to argue but James told him, “I too veto this draft 13, I don’t think I can sit through either of those stories again.”
Over the next few months, Lily discovered and vetoed 8 more drafts of Sirius’ best man’s speech.
The argument for draft 17 was “You cannot in detail describe what sexual position you walked in on me and James trying out a year ago”
Draft 19 was “Sirius. This isn’t about you and Remus. I mean your first kiss is really sweet but what has that got to do with our marriage.”
Draft 20 “THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO ADMIT YOU ARE AN ILLEGAL ANIMAGUS PUBLICALLY SIRIUS”
Draft 21 “Sirius. So help me God. We swore to NEVER tell anyone about the time we went to jail.”
Draft 22 James had vetoed on the grounds that they had sworn to never reveal the secret to taming the giant squid.
Draft 23 Sirius had hidden in a new place and had announced the speech, “FINISHED AND FABULOUS,” two days before the wedding.
When the morning of their wedding dawned, Lily wasn’t worried about anything besides the best man’s speech. She drank a calming drought to calm her nerves and forced herself to forget about it through the ceremony.
Today was about marrying James Potter. And if Sirius Black fucked up the entire day with his speech, she could murder him after their honeymoon. That was the mantra she repeated to herself over and over.
Lily had never felt so loved and full of hope as she did when she walked down the aisle to meet her future husband. The ring bears did their job perfectly and somehow she and James made it through the entire ceremony without crying.
She shed her first tears when James asked her “Alright, Potter,” when they snuck into an alcove to finish what they started with “you may kiss the bride.”
After they had eaten, cut the cake, and had the first dance as a couple- it was time for the best man’s speech.
Lily broke out into a cold sweat.
Sirius walked up to the front of the reception hall and took the microphone and began,
“This is my 23rd draft of this speech. Anyone who knows me knows that I can tend to go a little overboard,” Sirius paused for the laughter, “Which is why having James and Lily Potter in my life is so important. These two ground me. Sure, Lily and I can go to extremes, but James will always pull us back.”
Lily thought the room had suddenly gotten quite dusty.
“Until I moved in with my uncle, my childhood was not a happy one. Through a series of incidents, I met a beautiful little-redheaded girl named Evans. She brought joy and acceptance to my childhood. We did everything together and she was the first person to show me that family is something that you can choose and make yourself,” here Sirius swallowed some emotion but continued,
“Then Lily and I were forced to go to different schools to ‘try and save our teacher’s minds’. I was terrified. She was my one true friend. And then I met James Potter. Who- without prompting, accepted me and loved me fiercely and loyally. I remember when I got my first Letter from Evans at school- James seemed a little bewildered that I had another fierce and loyal friend. I had no idea that he thought she was a boy until 6th year Christmas holidays when they met.”
Again he waited for the laughter to die down.
“It took these two prats nearly two years to realize they were perfect for each other and I nearly lost my damn mind. But they were perfect for each other. They are- really. They balance each other out and care for so many. They’re my family. I look forward to seeing them grow as the Potters and I wish them a long marriage filled with love, many godchildren for me, and lots of laughter. To James and Lily Potter,” he finished and raised his glass
“To James and Lily Potter,” the crowd responded and burst into applause.
When Sirius approached James and Lily, he was tackled by Lily into a hug, “Best Best Man’s Speech Ever” she told him.
“Did you expect anything less?” He asked and kissed her on the forehead

OC questions - all of them for any two of your OCs
OH MY GOD I STARTED THIS 8BILLION YEARS AGO AND THEN SAVED A DRAFT AND FORGOT ABOUT IT. Sorry. But i really enjoyed this a lot, especially working more on Anabelle’s quirks and likes and dislikes.
For you my Twin Brain Twin, my own twins! Hello Talbot sisters.
1. What’s their full name? Why was that chosen? Does it mean anything?
Both Mina and Anabelle are named for characters from their mother’s favorite literature- specifically, Annabel Lee and Mina Harker. Anabelle has always been annoyed that Mina is an actual character while she has been “the dead girl” since she was born.
2. Do they have any titles? How did they get them?
In school they were The Dumb One and The Bitch.
3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?
They had a fairly miserable childhood. They have few memories that don’t include or at least end in their father hitting their mother, and later them. But they used to enjoy time they spent away from their parents when they used to be able to play pretend. They would go to a deep place in the woods and play games together and not think about going back to the house until it got dark. Worst memory is definitely the day their mother died.
4. What is their relationship with their parents? What’s a good and bad memory with them? Did they know both parents?
Kind of answered above. They felt nothing but fear for their father. Their mother is a bit more complicated. They wanted to love her, they really did. But their frustration with her for being too afraid to leave their father, coupled with her being emotionally distant to protect herself make her a hazy sort of figure in their memory.
5. Do they have any siblings? What’s their names? What is their relationship with them? Has their relationship changed since they were kids to adults?
Anabelle always wanted younger siblings and for a long time, didn’t understand why their mother wouldn’t give them one.
6. What were they like at school? Did they enjoy it? Did they finish? What level of higher education did they reach? What subjects did they enjoy? Which did they hate?
They only attended through middleschool publicly. Halfway through seventh grade, they were pulled without warning and homeschooled. They were terrified at the prospect, even though they hated school and their classmates. Anabelle was good with science and still enjoys studying the lab sections of her degree. Mina was always better with English, but was mocked for it at home.
7. Did they have lots of friends as a child? Did they keep any of their childhood friends into adulthood?
They always made friends… briefly. More acquaintances. No one lasted very long for various reasons. When Anabelle liked someone more, she would blame Mina for chasing them away and visa versa.
8. Did they have pets as a child? Do they have pets as an adult? Do they like animals?
They both tried to bring home pets when they were younger, but their mother always made them get rid of them before their father found out. Anabelle cried for days when they had to bring a dog she found to the pound.
9. Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?
Animals do not like Mina. She tries way too hard with them and her tension makes them nervous. She tries anyway though and they’ve had a cat or two since their father left. They keep running away though.
Anabelle does better with animals, though it’s a hit and a miss. She needs pets with a certain personality to work with her. They help to mellow her out, but unfortunately, none have worked out long enough for her to see any lasting benefits.
10. Do they like children? Do children like them? Do they have or want any children? What would they be like as a parent? Or as a godparent/babysitter/ect?
Neither of them are good with children at all. Mina, again, tries WAY too hard- babytalk and all. Kids are VERY turned off by her forced cheer and awkwardly deliberate silliness.
Anabelle refuses the company of anyone and everyone under the age of 16. If approached by a child, she will either ignore them or say something entirely age inappropriate to try to scare them off or summon a guardian to whisk them away.
11. Do they have any special diet requirements? Are they a vegetarian? Vegan? Have any allergies?
Mina has been a vegetarian since they were teenagers. Both the twins are somewhat anemic and have trouble balancing their diet.
12. What is their favourite food?
Mina loves Kimchii. Like- irrationally. Anabelle likes wild rice soup.
13. What is their least favourite food?
Mina honestly gags if anything is too close to the texture of meat. Anabelle can’t stand the texture of raw tomato.
14. Do they have any specific memories of food/a restaurant/meal?
They both remember various parties they weren’t allowed to attend when they were younger. They always hung around the kitchens eating the food anywya, but they always felt like the good stuff was brought out before they got a chance to taste it.
15. Are they good at cooking? Do they enjoy it? What do others think of their cooking?
No. Thus plot and Autumn.
16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?
Anabelle starts collecting things occasionally, but always gets rid of it all when in a bad spell. Mina thinks of the staff as a collection of sorts. Or a team she’s captain of. She curates it carefully, but she’s less in control than she would like to think.
17. Do they like to take photos? What do they like to take photos of? Selfies? What do they do with their photos?
Anabelle had a passing interest in photography when they were children. She was a little obsessed with getting a perfect picture of their mother, but she always turned or covered her face. Mina is almost as camera shy as their mother and now Anabelle only lets people take photos of her when she’s drunk or high.
18. What’s their favourite genre of: books, music, tv shows, films, video games and anything else
Anabelle reads a lot of true crime and it is patently Not Good For Her. She watches a lot of different Tv, but only gets involved with things for short spurts. Doesn’t watch a lot of film.
Mina loves 80s teen movies more than anything else. Jane Austen and the like. Very little tv shows.
They watch reality tv together though. Like all the worst ones.
19. What’s their least favourite genres?
Anabelle can’t stand any of the regency romance bullshit Mina loves. Mina is upset by all the true crime.
20. Do they like musicals? Music in general? What do they do when they’re favourite song comes?
Mina loves musicals and live theatre, but never goes to see anything live. She likes a lot of different genres, but is partial to minimalist arrangements.
Anabelle doesn’t like musicals and prefers music without lyrics.
21. Do they have a temper? Are they patient? What are they like when they do lose their temper?
Mina is very patient, but she holds a grudge.
Anabelle is always angry about someting, but it rarely stays the same thing for long.
22. What are their favourite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back?
Ooooo boy. Anabelle likes to humiliate people. her favorite way to torment her sister is to accuse her of having a never-to-be-requited crush on someone and infantizing her by saying she will never have sex even though she fantasizes about it like a middle schooler. There’s always just enough truth in it all to sting.
Mina tries her best not to let her temper get the better of her, but when she does, her insults slip out in little casual belittling comments like “you’re being stupid.” and “why do you even care?”
23. Do they have a good memory? Short term or long term? Are they good with names? Or faces?
Anabelle struggles with memory, it’s one of the things she’s working on in therapy. her short term is very good, but she forgets whole months of time from a year or more ago.
Mina has a good memory, but has trouble studying things.
24. What is their sleeping pattern like? Do they snore? What do they like to sleep on? A soft or hard mattress?
Both sisters struggle with insomnia. Mina’s bed is piled so high with throw pillows and stuffed animals, she gets buried. Anabelle likes a hard mattress and sometimes has panic attacks if she feels anything too close to her.
25. What do they find funny? Do they have a good sense of humour? Are they funny themselves?
Anabelle usually only laughs at others’ expense. Mina likes when other people joke around, but is terrible at being funny herself.
26. How do they act when they’re happy? Do they sing? Dance? Hum? Or do they hide their emotions?
Mina is a quiet smiler, but can also get chatty with people she’s comfortable with. This can end up being offputting, so she tries to keep to the quiet smiling.
Anabelle shows affection by uniting with someone against others. But when she’s in a particularily good mood, she will keep negative subjects to a minimum and just talk about neutral or positive things.
27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad?
Mina is easily upset by conflict. She just wants peace and will cry if she can’t make that peace happen. She hides it though, unless she can use it to gain more control over a situation.
Anabelle is almost always sad. She’s sad because she can’t make sense of her life, and whenever she figures more out, it’s something that makes her even more sad. She doesn’t cry much, but when she does, she wouldn’t be caught dead letting anyone see.
28. What is their biggest fear? What in general scares them? How do they act when they’re scared?
Mina is terrified of losing control of her life. She’s also afraid of the afterlife. She doesn’t like thinking about what’s possibly waiting for her or anyone. She doesn’t like thinking if they are all going to the same place. When she’s afraid she tries harder and harder to gain control of things around her.
Anabelle fears the unknown. This includes the afterlife, like her sister. It also includes the blank spaces in her memory.
29. What do they do when they find out someone else’s fear? Do they tease them? Or get very over protective?
Both of them, it depends on the person and how they feel about them. If they like the person, they will hold the information safe and try to keep it from coming up. If it is someone they don’t like, Mina will use it to find balance in the event of conflict and Anabelle will use it to feel superior and humiliate that person.
30. Do they exercise? Regularly? Or only when forced? What do they act like pre-work out and post-work out?
Mina doesn’t exercise except short walks around the estate. Anabelle has tried running before, but couldn’t keep up the pattern since she always pushed herself too hard and didn’t know how to ease into it.
31. Do they drink? What are they like drunk? What are they like hungover? How do they act when other people are drunk or hungover? Kind or teasing?
Mina will drink casually. Anabelle is a functioning alcoholic.
32. What do they dress like? What sorta shops do they buy clothes from? Do they wear the fashion that they like? What do they wear to sleep? Do they wear makeup? What’s their hair like?
Both of the twins wear that kind of 50s retro hipster girl mashup that was so popular about five years ago. They buy most of their clothes online. They both favor slips and nightgowns and silk robes for sleeping. They both use pretty basic makeup, more concerned with concealing than artistry. They favor simple hairstyles, but will spend time and effort on it for special occasions.
33. What underwear do they wear? Boxers or briefs? Lacey? Comfy granny panties?
Anabelle is an understructure queen. Girdles and spanx and cinchers galore.
Mina wears beautiful underthings, but doesn’t understand how they translate to supporting her body beneath her clothes.
34. What is their body type? How tall are they? Do they like their body?
Anabelle and Mina are very similar in body type, but as mentioned in above, Anabelle understands presenting her body better, and this results in Mina feeling self conscious and frustrated by the comparison. They are average in size all around.
35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure?
Anabelle loves gardening, but will never talk with anyone about it. the pleasure she SHOULD be guilty about, however, is terrorizing Mina and the Mercys.
Mina (perhaps unsurprisingly) has a huge collection of cheesy bodice ripper novels. But she should (and doesn’t) feel guilty about is her manipulative nature.
36. What are they good at? What hobbies do they like? Can they sing?
Both are very good studys. Mina is particularly good at english, while Anabelle is very into the analytical sciences. They both like to read and Anabelle is a particularly good gardener. The greenhouse and breakfast terrace are her domain. Neither twin can sing very well, though mina tried in high school to take lessons.
37. Do they like to read? Are they a fast or slow reader? Do they like poetry? Fictional or non fiction?
Both read a lot and are very methodical in their reading. Slow and steady. A lot of non-fiction for both of them, but Mina has her erotica.
38. What do they admire in others? What talents do they wish they had?
Mina has a strong affinity for people with strong loyalty. Conversely, Anabelle is attracted to the self sufficient.
39. Do they like letters? Or prefer emails/messaging?
Both prefer email as a means of communication. Or phone calls.
40. Do they like energy drinks? Coffee? Sugary food? Or can they naturally stay awake and alert?
Both tea and coffee drinkers. Especially during finals time.
41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship?
*slams down binder full of notes and scenarios* I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED.
September House being a script, there are several things that, given funding, cast and crew, I would leave up to other members of the team. One of these is the possible sexualities of the Talbots.
Early in the script, there is a scene in which Anabelle, looking to humiliate Mina, suggests that her sister harbors a crush on Leo. If I had a cast, I would absolutely leave it up to the actors playing the Mercys and the Talbots whether or not this is true. Anabelle would probably be most likely to say something like this if it were true- or she thought it was true. HOWEVER. She is prone to projecting a lot of her perceived weaknesses onto her sister. Also I kind of see her as rather guarded about sexuality and any deviation from a perceived norm, so maybe she’s misinterpreting the direction of Mina’s crush. Maybe some of both. So it would be up to the four actors to work out their dynamic and decide whether mina really does have a crush on Leo, whether it’s on Max, or if Anabelle is attracted to one or the other. Or none of the above.
So… short version: both the twins’ sexualities are ambiguous. Though I probably lean towards lesbian Anabelle and grey ace Mina.
I think they both are attracted to the qualities in others they admire as listed above. Neither have had many real romantic relationships. Mina likely none, Anabelle maybe a few hookups that she didn’t feel fully comfortable with so she ended them. Probably messily.
42. What are their goals? What would they sacrifice anything for? What is their secret ambition?
I think Anabelle’s goal in life is to escape her past. Unfortunately, this does not work out.
Mina’s is of course, to have control and complete peace in her home. I think she genuinely does want Anabelle to be included in this peace, but is too realistic to fight strongly for it.
43. Are they religious? What do they think of religion? What do they think of religious people? What do they think of non religious people?
Nope. Not many thoughts on religion- except Anabelle is vaguely aware that Leo was likely raised catholic and factors that into her stereotypes of both of the Mercys.
44. What is their favourite season? Type of weather? Are they good in the cold or the heat? What weather do they complain in the most?
Anabelle loves summer, while Mina is a huge winter person. Summer allows Anabelle to garden more and get out of the house where she can feel and think more clearly. Mina likes holy up and getting cozy.
45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?
People often see Mina as weak and pitiable. I think Mina can feel very sorry for herself, but she knows what she is capable of and would rather others didn’t.
People do not think very highly of Anabelle, and she feels the same toward herself.
46. Do they make a good first impression? Does their first impression reflect them accurately? How do they introduce themselves?
Mina is a hit and a miss with first impressions. It largely depends on the other person. she does well with people who are patient and have a protective instinct, but not well with those with short tempers
Anabelle makes awful first impressions, pretty much all around.
47. How do they act in a formal occasion? What do they think of black tie wear? Do they enjoy fancy parties and love to chit chat or loathe the whole event?
Their parents used to have fancy parties at the house all the time and when they got older, they were expected to attend. They are both very bad at this kind of event and normally stand off to one side together, not speaking to anyone unless approached.
48. Do they enjoy any parties? If so what kind? Do they organise the party or just turn up? How do they act? What if they didn’t want to go but were dragged along by a friend?
Mina prefers small gatherings of people. Anabelle throws parties at the house, but really they’re just an excuse to get very drunk/high in a way she doesn’t deem “pathetic” and a way to exert control over the house she hates so much.
49. What is their most valued object? Are they sentimental? Is there something they have to take everywhere with them?
Mina will never leave the house. She feels an odd sense of loyalty to it, almost as strong as her loyalty to the Mercys.
Anabelle did finally get a decent picture of their mother and keeps it safely hidden away. No one else has seen it and she likes it that way.
50. If they could only take one bag of stuff somewhere with them: what would they pack? What do they consider their essentials?
Mina would be terrible at packing a go bag. She would pack far too much of some things, and not nearly enough of others. But she would be good enough to pack have her phone and charger on her at all times.
Anabelle would actually be better at this. She would leave some things out just because she has never traveled much before, but she would not make as many simple mistakes as Mina.
