WHEEEEE
THIS TIME IT'S ACTUAL WORLDBUILDING YAYYY LETS GET INTO IT
first post if you'd like to read it
Main shit:
There's three dimensions in this universe: The Abyss, The Mortal Realm, and The Astral Plane.
Each dimension is superimposed on top of each other in the order mentioned above, and there is a small space in between each dimension. This space is where dead souls reside, and it is called the In-Between.
The Astral Plane:
Everything in the universe looks basically the same except Earth.
There is one big main land mass that's roughly circular located smack in the middle of the ocean. This land mass is split into roughly twelve equal parts like a cake.
Any other island ownership squabbles are up for debate between the Zodiacs.
Each part is a Zodiac's kingdom, and is named after the Zodiac's greek name. However, most of the time, each kingdom is informally referred to as 'Kingdom of (insert zodiac name here)'
- Aries: Krios
- Taurus: Tauros
- Gemini: Didymoi
- Cancer: Karkinos
- Leo: Leōn
- Virgo: Parthenos
- Libra: Zygos
- Scorpio: Skorpios
- Sagittarius: Toxotēs
- Capricorn: Aigokerōs
- Aquarius: Hydrokhoos
- Pisces: Ikhthyes
Each kingdom's physical landscape also corresponds to their season and element. For example:
Aries (Spring, Fire):
Taurus (Spring, Earth):
Gemini (Spring, Air):
Cancer (Summer, Water):
Leo (Summer, Fire):
Virgo (Summer, Earth):
Libra (Autumn, Air):
Scorpio (Autumn, Water):
Sagittarius (Autumn, Fire):
Capricorn (Winter, Earth):
Aquarius (Winter, Air):
Pisces (Winter, Water):
Each Zodiac's kingdom also has a small nobility, consisting of the other constellations. Each kingdom houses three or four constellations and they are the second highest figures in the kingdom.
The rest of the subjects in each kingdom are star spirits, which are mortal spirits. When star spirits die, they are reincarnated into the mortal realm to start a new life.
Each Zodiac has a personal advisor to assist them. This personal advisor is also the leader of their respective kingdom's military and diplomacy.
- Aries: Ara, The Altar
- Taurus: Ursa Major, The Greater Bear
- Gemini: Pegasus, The Pegasus
- Cancer: Delphinus, The Dolphin
- Leo: Lepus, The Wolf
- Virgo: Pavo, The Peacock
- Libra: Lyra, The Lyre
- Scorpio: Lacerta, The Lizard
- Sagittarius: Centaurus, The Centaur
- Capricorn: Corvus, The Crow
- Aquarius: Aquila, The Eagle
- Pisces: Hydra, The Water Snake
The Mortal Realm:
We're in it, you moron.
(That's a Lego Monkie Kid reference please laugh)
The Abyss:
In The Abyss live beings called Taiju (based off of the term 'taijitu', which is another name for the ying-yang symbol). A singular being is called a Tai and multiple are called Taijus. The species itself is just referred to as Taiju.
Anatomy:
The beings in the Abyss are made of an outer shell and an inner soul. The shells have evolved to be black so that they can dampen the brightness of the inside soul.
Taiju do not have internal organs. They do have blood, known as orichalcum and it is bright gold. The soul in their body is concentrated in their head and body, giving them conscience. Their limbs contain orichalcum, enabling movement.
Taiju's shells have a texture that is similar to porcelain.
Taiju also have horns on top of their head, varying between the individual. Unlike their shells, their horns are able to be broken off if enough force is applied. Breaking them off is seen as the greatest dishonor. If a Tai is banished from their kingdom, they are forced to break off their horns and obscure their head to hide the scars.
Taiju's horns are normally black, like the color of their shells. If Taiju's horns are white, they are considered albino and may be more susceptible to sickness.
Taiju also have wings. Wings start developing at the age of 13, or when Taiju become of age. Wings typically reflect the character of the Tai. The most common types of wings are insect, bird, and bat.
The hair of Taijus have a peculiar texture, it is soft and squishy but somehow still able to be seperated into strands. It is comparable to mercury.
Taiju are functionally immortal, being immune to aging.
If a Tai is wounded, their outer shell will regenerate. However, if the wound is too big, their soul will begin to leak out. If the outer shell is completely destroyed, the soul will escape out of the shell and roam around until it is exorcised.
Exorcising a soul is accomplished by drawing a circle on the ground in the exorcist's orichalcum, luring the soul over to it, and trapping the soul in some sort of vessel, pacifying it.
Social stuff:
The hierarchy is as follows: the royal family, the aristocracy, the nobility, the parliment, the warriors, messengers, and civilians.
When a taiju is born, their feet and hands are stained with potions to bless their future. Blue for longevity, purple for wealth, pink for luck.
It is common for departed souls to be contained in jewelry and be worn by their loved ones.
It is also common for Taiju engaging in war to decapitate their rival's head and use it as wall decoration.
The aristocracy are revered scholars, wizards, and alchemists. The nobility are those that possess a sizable amount of wealth. The parliment study law and eventually form a council for the royal family. The warriors are those handpicked by the royal family and that train for war. Messengers are essentially police officers.
From birth, those in the aristocracy study some form of magic or alchemy.
The nobility train their children in either literature, music, or art. To become a messenger, one must endure a decade of being a warrior and studying in law for an additional five years.
The Royal Family
The royal family is blood inherited, but anyone can challenge the current family to a duel to the death. If the challenger wins, their family is immediately elevated to the highest rank by the parliment.
This doesn't happen frequently due to the royal family being strong as fuck.
The royal family does not choose successors by firstborn. Once their children come of age, they must engage in combat with their parents. Whoever shows the most promise will become the next ruler.
It is a metaphorical 'overthrowing' of the previous ruler, although in some cases (when a foreigner challenges the current ruler) it is literally.
You are not supposed to ACTUALLY kill your parents in combat.
LOOKING AT YOU, ECLIPSE.
Yeah, remember Eclipse from post #1? Remember her? The one that kind of...made the Astral Plane? Yeah, she came from here. Will I explain how she did it? No. That's a surprise.
THAT'S IT!! A LOT OF THIS INFO WAS MADE AT DIFFERENT POINTS IN TIME AND COBBLED TOGETHER FIVE MINUTES AGO SO SORRY IF ANYTHING LOOKS WONKY!! (will fix the photos later)
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, ASK ME AND I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO ANSWER!!
