Why are the Mist boys all ticking bombs (except Cake. This one is more like an unmarked landmine waiting for someone to step on it)

Gaze is a foot and a half in the grave, and sinking fast.

Charm's devotion to his vode is slow but steadily dragging him to the Dark side of the Force.

Tooka's injuries are taking longer to stop hurting with each mission, and the aches are his constant companions. But he needs to push trough it and not let it slow him down, the squad depends on him.

Cheese's mental health is kept afloat with the help of his service massiff, but there's only so much weight Aid can help shoulder, when the war wages on and his vode keep dying and the guilt keeps piling up.

Bedbug's 'adventures' get the more risky and borderline destructive because he needs the thrill to be harder than the horrors he sees in the battlefield, but this war is hell and there's no end in sight. If he's going to die, then it's better if it's doing something that gives him some joy.. Right?

And then there's Cake. Who's watching the war kill his brother's spirits and knowing there's nothing he can possibly do to make it better. There's only so much that pranks and jokes can do to distract them from their harsh reality. He's at his limit and one failed mission away from setting them all free.

Stuck between setting "Kings" by Tribe Society and "Anywhere Away from Here" by Rag'n'Bone Man as Cake's song btw.

Both are so much his struggle to fit in while he wants to be anywhere else, and to get away and free his vode from The Wrongness coded.

He's always edging this close from snapping under the pressure of not having a functioning chip to 'steer' his thoughts on track with the others and either putting his explosives specialization to catastrophic good use.

Cake is a babygirl with flawless eyeliner and curls, but don't be fooled, there's so much deeply wrong with him. He's at his limit and the pranks are not working to keep him sane anymore but he stays silly :)

Tooka, Cheese and - surprisingly - the troublemaker Cake are so protective over Gaze.

They all know their vod is prone to getting very attached to people, very quickly, and unlikely to put down/enforce his boundaries even when the person is clearly not interested in hearing about or respecting them.

They watch like hawks whoever is trying to approach the sniper, and will not be shy to pull the potential new friend / suitor aside and ask them what are their intentions towards their brother.

Gaze has lost too much already, and his heart is not getting broken anytime soon, not on their watch.

In a happier, everybody lives!AU, I don't think the Mist boys would take part in the rebellion, or even settle in a quiet, off-grid farmer's life. They're both fed up with having to fight for a cause, and too used to the high stakes to even know how to slow down (I don't think Bedbug and Cake would even survive it, hah).

I can see them becoming bounty hunters, mercenaries, or pirates. Something that allows for them to not be in constant danger but still have the credits, and freedom to see the places they've always wanted, and do whatever they want.

They still may have a place to go back to during downtime, like a house in an unnamed planet, but the true home would be the ship.

If they find partners who would rather settle down in a planet, that would be one of the few reasons one of them would build a home to spend more time planet side. Still, it's unlikely they'd completely abandon the high adrenaline lifestyle (maybe if they have kids, tho. A ship is no place to raise a little one. Do not be fooled, the retirement would last until the kiddo was old enough to reach the ship's controls ahjsdhgasd).

Not sure if there's a named “-core” for his aesthetic, so I'll go with words, if it's alright?

- Someone, underwater, reaching out to an offered hand. It's unclear if the hand is a friend from above, or a foe from the depths.

- Nighttime, sitting in the edge of a skyscraper abandoned while it was still being built. The lights of the city are bright and warm light the sun, reaching just below the person's boots, who watches life go by, in the shadows.

- A flower crown of red gladiolus, too loose around his head, falling over his eyes. The color of flowers seem to melt down his face. Oh. It's not the flowers.

BEDBUG

💌 How would they react to a love letter?

Might as well change his name to "Giddy", because that's how he'll be acting for the rest of the week (or longer). Catch Bedbug on his bunk, reading it over and over again – feet kicking, pillow-screaming, telling (to a very confused) Burr all about the sweet things the person wrote him.

Tooka or Cheese will have to physically capture and sit down the man to stop him from hurriedly jumping into a relationship – or engagement, if the letter comes from a partner; because he's now in love and must speak back his own confession (yeah he falls in – and out of – love at the drop of a hat, no he's not working on it).

In the case of someone who's not his partner, once he calms down (and if the infatuation hasn't died) he will write back to the person in hopes of starting something with them. 🌹 Do they have a signature scent? Perfume, shampoo or alike?

It varies so much, he's always on the move trying to burn out that seemingly endless well of energy feeding his body (too bad it's ADHD you can't burn it out, my dear bug), but all he does is burn trough body sprays and the barracks' allotted hot water.

He steals grabs what's the closest to him when his runs out. But while it lasts, he uses a fire fruit punch one, and under all the plastoid and blaster smoke, he's often smelling kinda citrus-y.

CAKE

Summer! More specifically, high summer. Why? He hates, with the power of a thousand suns, to be even minimally cold.

Cake would rather have to constantly keep his hair braided/in a bun to avoid sweating away, than bundling up in two layers of blacks and wool socks and thick gloves, and still not feeling his face or fingers or toes or- let's just say he's really not okay with being chilly.

I'm going to pick two random ocs to tell you about to see how they would get along with yours. Shriek: Both Ori'vod and Vod'ika coded. Almost always causing some kind of shenanigan be it personally or by using vod'ike from other units. This is how she shows affection, she developed this as a cadet by getting Cody to sit on a pudding cup and getting off easy since it was the first time Cody and Rex had seen their new vod'ika laugh or smile. Meowster Windu the Tooka: This is the unofficial mascot of the 213th, He's the pet tooka of their jedi Mirasava "Mira" Nova. She named him after her master Mace Windu. He's very affectionate and tends to "adopt" a lot of people he deems as his humans or his strange bipedal kittens. Dogma is currently being treated as a sad tooka kitten who can't feed/hunt for himself ( he brings him all sorts of snacks with no explanation)

He’s both an incurable prankster and a vod’ika, and would be absolutely delighted to bond with her over causing all types of inconveniences and (lighthearted) misery on their squads (and maybe some actual misery on some nat borns, so it’s advised she jumps off, or reason with him if he gets a little too excited about causing problems). Less often (but not reluctantly at all), Charm and Bedbug will be happy to enrich themselves with a prank spree.

Meowster Windu: Cue Stardust pushing everyone out of the way to get access to the baby. Save for Bedbug (who tookas seem to avoid for some reason) and Charm (allergic to their fur) who are not really tooka people, the Mist Squad boys + Stardust would probably fall over each other trying to gain Meowster’s favor lmao. They adore animals, and have a friendly one visiting the med bay or the barracks? What a blessed day! Depending on the visit frequency, tooka beds, toys, and treats (if Mira is alright with him being fed by others) will start popping up in the barracks.

This black and white cat is so Cake coded bc he's so, soooo cuddly with his partner. Can and will pester them for snuggles whenever he sees them idle for 0.5 seconds.
