Why are the Mist boys all ticking bombs (except Cake. This one is more like an unmarked landmine waiting for someone to step on it)

Gaze is a foot and a half in the grave, and sinking fast.

Charm's devotion to his vode is slow but steadily dragging him to the Dark side of the Force.

Tooka's injuries are taking longer to stop hurting with each mission, and the aches are his constant companions. But he needs to push trough it and not let it slow him down, the squad depends on him.

Cheese's mental health is kept afloat with the help of his service massiff, but there's only so much weight Aid can help shoulder, when the war wages on and his vode keep dying and the guilt keeps piling up.

Bedbug's 'adventures' get the more risky and borderline destructive because he needs the thrill to be harder than the horrors he sees in the battlefield, but this war is hell and there's no end in sight. If he's going to die, then it's better if it's doing something that gives him some joy.. Right?

And then there's Cake. Who's watching the war kill his brother's spirits and knowing there's nothing he can possibly do to make it better. There's only so much that pranks and jokes can do to distract them from their harsh reality. He's at his limit and one failed mission away from setting them all free.

Mist Squad take #2

Fixed some things that were really bothering me on the first portraits, and added two other troopers. With some hope I'll sketch the remaining two and then their massiffs :D

Bedbug, Cake, Medic Cheese and Gaze.

Charm very much loves being gifted flowers, btw. Melts into a flustered, giggling puddle on the spot.

Do your clone OCs have piercings?

CAKE has reamers in both ears, lip ring, nipples and navel piercing.

BEDBUG's tonge is pierced, and he's got three barbells subdermals on his nape.

CHARM has a septum piercing, and three in redacted places.

Charm believes the path to someone's heart is through the stomach. He is trained and a master at gathering info, and will not shy away from using those skills to learn and research his crush's favorite treats. And, by the Force, is he a gifted one in the kitchen. His love interest will never want for their favorite tasty snacks if Charm has any say on the matter.

In a happier, everybody lives!AU, I don't think the Mist boys would take part in the rebellion, or even settle in a quiet, off-grid farmer's life. They're both fed up with having to fight for a cause, and too used to the high stakes to even know how to slow down (I don't think Bedbug and Cake would even survive it, hah).

I can see them becoming bounty hunters, mercenaries, or pirates. Something that allows for them to not be in constant danger but still have the credits, and freedom to see the places they've always wanted, and do whatever they want.

They still may have a place to go back to during downtime, like a house in an unnamed planet, but the true home would be the ship.

If they find partners who would rather settle down in a planet, that would be one of the few reasons one of them would build a home to spend more time planet side. Still, it's unlikely they'd completely abandon the high adrenaline lifestyle (maybe if they have kids, tho. A ship is no place to raise a little one. Do not be fooled, the retirement would last until the kiddo was old enough to reach the ship's controls ahjsdhgasd).

Okay okaaayy, this one had me choosing between Cake and Charm, because the vibes fit both of them but in wildly different ways. But! In the end, this one goes for Charm, more specifically in that period right before he started falling to the dark side.

'Walking away' – not giving in to the call of the dark side of the Force, and not keeping his vode as safe by denying the power he knows he could have

'Lose everything' – lose himself, the person his brothers love, because he also knows he would never be the same if he did give in to the call.

(Spoiler alert: yeah, he gave in to the call and guess who the squad had to protect themselves against now?)

I'm going to pick two random ocs to tell you about to see how they would get along with yours. Shriek: Both Ori'vod and Vod'ika coded. Almost always causing some kind of shenanigan be it personally or by using vod'ike from other units. This is how she shows affection, she developed this as a cadet by getting Cody to sit on a pudding cup and getting off easy since it was the first time Cody and Rex had seen their new vod'ika laugh or smile. Meowster Windu the Tooka: This is the unofficial mascot of the 213th, He's the pet tooka of their jedi Mirasava "Mira" Nova. She named him after her master Mace Windu. He's very affectionate and tends to "adopt" a lot of people he deems as his humans or his strange bipedal kittens. Dogma is currently being treated as a sad tooka kitten who can't feed/hunt for himself ( he brings him all sorts of snacks with no explanation)

Shriek: Shenanigans, you say? That’s the siren’s call for Cake! He’s both an incurable prankster and a vod’ika, and would be absolutely delighted to bond with her over causing all types of inconveniences and (lighthearted) misery on their squads (and maybe some actual misery on some nat borns, so it’s advised she jumps off, or reason with him if he gets a little too excited about causing problems). Less often (but not reluctantly at all), Charm and Bedbug will be happy to enrich themselves with a prank spree.

Meowster Windu: Cue Stardust pushing everyone out of the way to get access to the baby. Save for Bedbug (who tookas seem to avoid for some reason) and Charm (allergic to their fur) who are not really tooka people, the Mist Squad boys + Stardust would probably fall over each other trying to gain Meowster’s favor lmao. They adore animals, and have a friendly one visiting the med bay or the barracks? What a blessed day! Depending on the visit frequency, tooka beds, toys, and treats (if Mira is alright with him being fed by others) will start popping up in the barracks.

1) What is their go-to comfort food?

CHARM While he’s a good cook who loves to experiment, when it comes to comfort, nothing soothes him better than a plate of mac and cheese (with all the extra cheese). And because he believes comfort shared is comfort doubled, he’ll often make enough for the loved ones around him (or keep it warm, if they’re coming home later). CAKE With this man's sweet tooth, it could be expected that a comfort food would be something sweet, but surprisingly, it is not! When the need for comfort converge with hunger, Cake turns to potatoes of the mashed with extra butter variety.

5) What is the song you most associate to them?

CHARM “Indestructible” by Nik Ammar. Mainly because it was the song playing on the Week’s Infinite Loop when I finally sat down to ‘outline’ him. And I kind of associate the cadence of Nik's voice in the song with how Charm himself speaks (he speaks faster than the song tho): voice quiet but not weak, soothing but with an underlying energy, you know? CAKE “Black Sun” by Irma. Cake was ‘born’ out of this song. His inhibitor chip malfunctioned and started to degrade early on. The lyrics are like his slow realization of what is going on, where it is all leading for the clones. The inner battle of creeping fear of being discovered, fighting the need to rebel and free his brothers.

28) What would they do if their favourite pet suddenly fell asleep on their lap?

CHARM And suddenly, it’s nap time for him, too. It’s not like he can move Dinui if his massiff doesn’t want to (damn spoiled pets *half-heartedly shakes fist at the sky*), or has the heart to fight the puppy eyes sent his way if he tried to. CAKE Out of the squad, Cake may be the only one that will (with a most heavy heart, mind you) move Sugar out of his lap. He gets cold very easily, and massiffs have a way of leeching out most of your body heat, fast. But- Sometimes, he’s just too tired to move his stubborn girl, or the current planet is hot enough that any cooling he gets is a blessing, the Cake finally lets her have some lap time.

30) What is their love language?

CHARM Giving: Quality time (he's always looking forward to the next date and outing, and treasures every moment spent together); acts of service (in the form of cooking for his loved ones, and patiently caring for them when they are sick). Receiving: Physical touch (do cling and dote on him, please) and gifting (will keep every single pebble and feather, and trinket given to him). CAKE Giving: Words of affirmation (you can call him your personal hype man!), gift giving (not as often as he would like because he's fcking broke, but spoils his loved ones the best he can!!) Receiving: Words of affirmation (ties heavily into his core conflict. Please assure him. Let him know he is not just another faceless number in this war), physical touch (not as clingy as some of his brothers, but won't ever decline invitations for hand holding and cuddling).

CHARM He’s not one easy to fluster, but he can get bashful when someone he cares about compliments him (on something other than his looks, this one he appreciates but doesn’t really affect him otherwise). Being openly romanced by his s/o (loving notes, wine and dine, flirty banter, you name it) often turns him into a love puddle, though. CAKE Another who’s normally hard to fluster. Probably the one way (other than embarrassing him in public. Please don’t.) to easily get him hot in the face is being as forward as him when it comes to flirting and PDA. He can dish a lot, but taking? Haha yeah, he is not used to being met with anything other than flustered partners, and can hardly weather the treatment he gives.

Shriek would like to know which of your boys would be the biggest disaster/headache with glitter and silly string. There's no casual way to ask that. But she swears "No reason.. just curious."

✨ How did you come up with the OC’s name?

CHARM Ok, his name's origin is pretty silly 😅. He was actually the last to be named when creating the squad, remaining nameless up until I tried giving their ref sheets a go. And the expression I gave him in there was making me low-key flustered like?? hdjahsd???? Was my own OC trying to charm me while I tried to draw him? So I jokingly named his file "Charmer", and it kind of stuck, so I just went with the flow. Now the name has a proper origin in-universe and all, but the origins are less than legendary lmao. CAKE This one is because Cake has one insatiable sweet-tooth. His craving is bad enough, he can be easily bribed into doing chores he hates or into all kinds of shenanigans if he's promised even 1 (one) single piece of candy at the end of it. But when people ask, he's quick to say that's because he's "obviously the best looking beefcake you'll ever have the pleasure of seeing" (a statement often followed by one of his brothers thwacking him above the head for being cocky).

🥊 What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?

CHARM Loves: Despite Cheese's reprimands of "bringing work to downtime", Charm enjoys both coding and (harmlessly, from his point of view) cracking into software. He finds the first a good option to relax while still keeping his mind sharp; and the second an efficient way to challenge and stimulate his brain during idle times (and if it earns him some credits from, ahem, undisclosed sources, that's a bonus). He occasionally likes channeling his artistic side into carving little wooden animals and charms. Hates: It's not exactly a hating, that would be too strong a word, but he really dislikes dancing. Charm came out of his tube with two left feet and all the rhythm of a drunk, deaf bantha. He thinks he may be able to slow dance, but that's a theory yet to be tested - no one has stuck around long enough yet to get to this point of intimacy. CAKE Loves: Singing! His voice is nothing to write Naboo about, but the squad never complains when he decides to break the hyperspace silence with the last songs stuck on his head (except when it makes the massiffs join the singing. Tooka is very vocal about how tone-deaf the enthusiastic companions are). Also loves annoying the squad with (mostly) harmless pranking. Hates: Hiking. He just can't see the point. He'll get all sweaty and tired and eaten by the local mosquito population, and for what? To see a pretty waterfall or whatever, and then have to walk the whole path back? Pfft, no, thank you.

🍕 What is their favorite food?

CHARM Anything fish. Fried, stuffed, roasted, in a soup? Doesn't matter, just let him have some of it, please and thank you <3 CAKE Sweets, any kind, any time. But he has a very soft spot for those hard candies with a gooey center. It is like having two candies in one!

❤️ What is one of your OC’s best memories?

CHARM Easily, the day Dinui was assigned to him. He wasn't too sure of how he felt about having a whole another living being relying on him for being safe, healthy and well-cared for (yeah, there were his brothers who kind of relied on him doing his part to keep the whole squad alive, but it's not the same thing!), yet, the moment he laid eyes on that chubby, paws-too-big-for-his-body, wiggly massiff puppy stuffed inside a too-large vest with his CT number? Charm will be forever thankful for the blank mask his bucket provided, because the cheek-stinging smile that he couldn't contain for the life of him was something that would 100% become his name, if any of his brothers had seen it. CAKE It was one of the first missions after him and his siblings (Cake and Bedbug) got assigned to Mist Squad. They were tasked with capturing a fleeing deserter, and it was the first time he had a chance to put all of his skills and training to real, actual use. It felt good, really good to feel like an essential part of the team. That he got praised for his trap being the thing who caught their target only added to the feeling.

It depends, really. While he does not turn away affection (I mean, his favorite love language to receive is physical touch), he first wants to make sure the person offering will have his full attention during it. Charm hates rushing things - affection out of all!-, so please approach him when he’s not too busy, or if he’s busy - don’t be disheartened. Please, just hold on for five minutes while he shirks his current duties to give you all the time he can afford. Go ahead then and cling to him all you want, Charm is all yours for as long as it takes for Tooka to grab him by the scruff and drag him back to his duty.

Does he like home cooked meals?

Oh, that’s one big, fat YES. In fact, Charm likes it so much he took upon himself to learn how to cook so that he and his vode wouldn’t have to suffer trough ration bars so often, at least when their funds allow for (or during missions out in the wild. Release this man in a planet with an ice cube and two rocks and, somehow, he’ll come back an hour later with a mf feast. How? A mystery not even Bedbug was able to get a clue on.) If you’re offering to cook for him, be ready to keep him out of the kitchen with a broom. He wants to help! He wants to learn what you’re doing, so that he can make it for you too, or then you can both make it together! Will watch you from the doorway with the saddest, wettest baby tooka eyes until you’re either done cooking or allow him to help with something (even something as unobtrusive as chopping up a veggie or setting the table), tho. Cooking is an act of love for Charm, and he’s always open for it, be it giving, receiving or both!

Haha! Well he might, after he unfreezes out of his embarrassed, surprised state. Don’t be fooled by his name, because Charm is not used to having people dote or put him on the spotlight. Please, he’s just a simple slicer, a hacker that acts from the back lines, not exactly a hero worthy of praise, even less devotion! You’re sure you don’t mean to devote yourself to his braver vode who save lives (points at Cheese), or lead them fearlessly (waves in Tooka’s general direction)? No? Him? Oh gee, thank you so much. Catch him helping you with chores whenever he can, showing up with something warm or refreshing, or treating you to a candy and snacks. Hii Blue! Here are some tidbits about them 🌟 CHARM 1. He really enjoys holding hands, be it platonically or not! It makes him feel connected to the other person in a way he can't quite explain, and when he gets that soft hand squeeze? It grounds him so much. Would hold hands for a whole day if possible/allowed to. 2. Charm would love to have a porg as a pet. He finds them absolutely adorable, and can be found wasting away his free time watching cute videos featuring them round birds. The only thing really stopping him from smuggling one in the barracks is that the massiffs would think of the new team member as a treat instead of a sibling 😔 CAKE 1. Back in his smol cadet days, Cake used to be the kid that bit others when upset. And he also had the shortest fuse of his batchmates. While both parts of his behavior improved greatly now that he's an adult, if the situation pushes for it, an enemy will be (unpleasantly) surprised to learn that the squad's massiffs are not the only ones who will resort to chomping during a fight :'D 2. Playing with his hair is a sacred privilege granted to few people other than his twins. It's a vulnerable moment for him because he relaxes to the point of falling asleep, and he doesn't enjoy feeling defenseless around people he doesn't trust 100%. But if the person unlocked the perk, he will low-key badger them to play with his hair as often as possible. He craves relaxing and letting down his walls for his loved ones, as often as humanely possible.

Bedbug, Tooka You know that one person that could probably eat a raw lemon and don't pull a single face? Yeah, Bedbug is this kind of sour candy lover. Full on buys those sour dips for candy and dumps it all on his mouth. He claims it helps him focus. Even Tooka, a long time enjoyer of sour candy, is terrorized by his son's trooper's fried taste buds.

Spicy

Gaze, Cheese The sniper and medic can often be found bonding over their unique love for – in Cake's words – “eating pain candy”. They don't enjoy it to the extent of their 'sour' vod, but they do eventually search for something with a higher heat level, because they got used to the current favorite and “it doesn't burn the same anymore”.

Sweet

Cake, Cheese, Charm Babygirl likes sweets so much, he got named after one. Cake loves sweet candy, the sweeter, the better. Ask him about his favorite type, and his answer is “yes”. As long as there's sugar, Cake is chewing on it and then asking for seconds (and thirds, and fourths…). Cheese and Charm are way more chill about it. They won't turn down if there are sweets to be had, but won't mope around (unlike someone) when the last piece is gone from their pockets.
