RULES: share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture their character/personality/vibe. Bonus points for just using dialogue without other details about the scene, but you’re free to include those as well.

“Well, I’ve fucked myself,”
“You really want a werewolf fugitive in your home for longer than necessary? I take it back, you are an idiot,”
“Ivan gave me the authority to remove individuals who display violence on these grounds unprovoked. Which means I get to tell you to promptly fuck off.”
“Others will test me no matter what. They already have, actually. I think I make my point pretty damn clear, so I sure as shit ain’t gonna go and fill out a questionnaire with my personal information like I’m at a werewolf DMV.”
“Like I’d ever let you eat something out of a can.”
“You come anywhere near her again, I won’t have as much restraint as I did today.”
“If he thinks that just because you’re the only one I won’t immediately clock that I’ll actually listen to what you have to say, he’s got another thing coming.”
“You are not my alpha… You never were and you never will be. I don't have an alpha.”
“I was afraid to die because I didn’t want you to remember me as an almost. I didn’t want you to look back and think ‘she almost loved me’, because I do love you. I love you more than I thought I could ever love anyone. And the thought of me dying without you knowing that was too much for me to take.”
She halted by the bar for a second, pointing at Toby and slurring “You owe me…” her brows suddenly furrowed. “Shit, I didn’t do this for any money, did I?”
Jayde cleared her throat. “Listen, Nick,” she started and downed her entire glass of whiskey like it was water. // “It’s Patrick,” he corrected with a scowl. // She shrugged. “Eh, I knew it ended in an ‘ick’.”
Jayde scooped the kitten up and he flopped around in her grip like a ragdoll, trying to gnaw on her fingers. She held him up and tilted him this way and that, her brow furrowed in deep thought. Then she plopped the kitten back down on the bed and looked at Nadya with resolution. “Greg.”
Bonus Nadya Lines!
Tumblr media
“I can imagine you’re here because of something bad… But it’s not my job to judge you. It’s my job to help you. And I want to help you, but it’s kind of hard to do that if you won’t at least talk to me.”
“Can’t we just… I don’t know, act like we aren’t doing anything wrong? I mean, that’s how you get away with shoplifting.” Jayde stared questioningly at her. Nadya’s face flushed once again. “N-not that I shoplift, I was just watching a petty crime documentary one night –”
“Did I ever tell you the way you set up a campsite is sexy?”

Here’s a little moment of my original girlies after a stressful day getting a lil beat up, but still finding that silver lining (warning for slightly suggestive content)
Once her hand was fully bandaged, Jayde set it on Nadya’s waist and pulled her closer while the other one came to rest against her cheek. “Hey,” Jayde prompted softly with a stroke of her thumb.
“Hm?” Nadya hummed, leaning in until their foreheads touched.
“Thank you.”
Jayde caught the human’s smile before she shut her eyes and it made her smile, too. In the calm quiet of their bathroom, Jayde got the all too familiar craving for her lips. She knew their softness and warmth would soothe that last bit of dread within her heart. Nadya must have longed for the same, because she felt her lean in. Jayde went to eagerly meet her halfway. Their lips were just about to touch before she had a realization that made her heart freeze in panic.
The hand cradling Nadya’s face shot down to her shoulder. “Wait,” Jayde said as her whole body flinched back.
Nadya blinked at her in surprise and confusion. “What’s wrong?”
“Your lip,” Jayde pointed out. The cut may be small, but it was still an open wound, and all it took was just a little bit of saliva in a human’s bloodstream to kickstart the fever. She almost turned Nadya into a werewolf with a kiss.
Nadya touched her bottom lip like she only just noticed that it was split. Then her eyes widened as the realization dawned on her, too. “Oh,” she muttered in wonder.
Jayde had the same exact thought. Anger boiled up from her chest again and she held back an animalistic growl. The small injury would only take a handful of days at the most to fully heal, but the fact that something so simple, yet so essential had been taken away from her so easily offended the wolf far more than the pain from her own injuries.
“I should’ve broken his fucking legs,” Jayde grumbled under her breath.
Nadya smiled apologetically. “If it makes you feel better, I’m pretty sure you broke his jaw. He won’t be kissing anyone for a while, either.”
A small, amused exhale pushed out of her nose and she replied half sarcastically. “It does make me feel better, thank you.”
“And there are other places to kiss. Like here,” Nadya brought Jayde’s wounded hand up to her lips, “and here,” she gently pecked the most noticeable bruise on her jaw, “or here," her fingers brushed across Jayde’s heated skin as she moved her hair behind her shoulder to expose her neck. Jayde held her breath as Nadya planted a prolonged kiss to her pulse.
Each place her mouth touched was exactly what Jayde needed. She felt every fear and doubt melt away at the utterly captivating contact, her body releasing all of its tension with a deep sigh. But where it replenished, it also made the urge to kiss her more unbearable to resist.
“You’re being a tease,” Jayde warned, her skin prickling intensely as her wolf stirred.
Nadya leaned back and sported a smug expression. “Just think of it as extended foreplay.”
A lighthearted laugh put strain on her wounds and Jayde had to hold her injured side for a moment until the pain passed. “You’re terrible,” she said, pulling her into an embrace and kissing her temple.
“You love it," she said, nuzzling back into her neck.

Tumblr media
THE DISQUALIFIED
the disqualified [noun, origin unknown] refers to a character who's became too numb to the concept of the world, to the point of deeming oneself not able to express any sort of emotion, whether positive or a negative one. this state is usually the one to follow after feeling too much, as if to balance out the overwhelming sensation of human emotion. living up to their title, they often consider themselves 'disqualified' from being a human, forsaken and unloved, abandoned by the world they've never had interest in. they don't know where they belong or where should they go - every second of breathing air is a waste of oxygen someone worthier could use. the disqualified symbolize the constant state of feeling nothing but tiredness, state where all is merciless but the end. this is the one and only test outcome where i as the writer shall personally interfere - please, my most beloved disqualified, keep longing to feel again. there's so much you've never felt and so much you'll desire to feel again. in the words of Osamu Dazai (who's the creator of the title 'the disqualified' I so happily stole) - "Everything passes." a statement as short as it is true - everything passes, even the numbness. after it, you'll experience so much more beauty of the world - beauty that might pass just as the numbness did, but in it's temporary and unique nature lies the reason why it's to be cherished. so, please, try to hold on a bit. sometimes, holding on is the best we can do and most of the times, it's just enough. - a (former) fellow disqualified
Tumblr media
THE ICARUS
[noun, greek origin] refers to a character, first curious and childish, who got so bored of the world's rotten nature they lost all hope in living. as the last resort to find the spark in the world of dying stars, the icarus may have attempted numerous times to touch the blazing surface of the sun, hoping to see any kind of redemption in the reflection of their face in the sun's flames. as a result, their wings were melted down and their bones broken by the harsh landing, yet that still didn't stop them from trying all over again. the people of icarus' nature often believe their place is with the stars and their desire to burn amongst them causes them to forget the beauty of the land they've abandoned, merely flying over it - the world has stored so much beauty for them they often struggle to see through the rays of sun and yet, it is still there. the most beautiful of flowers grow upon the lands their feet haven't even touched and maybe, just maybe, if they spared a bit of their time to give the (them forsaken) world another chance, they'd see that sky might not be the home they truly desire, but one they ve seeked just because they have seen only the worst of the world. - a fellow icarus
Tumblr media
THE FALSE MUSE
the false muse [noun, latin origin] refers to a character that attempts to be perfect in order to receive certain amount of praise, or to inspire others to go in their footsteps. they tend to seek the spotlight, the podium, the gaze of the people looking up to them, with praise and validation being what keeps them pursuing the way of living they did before. the false muses surely have their goals, but the biggest one is to simply be better than yesterday and worse than tomorrow, to be in a constant state of self improvement they'll never deem enough. this is what leads them to the ocassional state of burnout, state one may describe as trying so hard to please the artist you become the opposite of a muse - hence why they're called false ones. the false muses might be tempted to think that they’ve never achieved perfection, but the truth is, there's no such thing as perfection, nor is there a way to achieve it. all muses could long for is merely the perfect version of themselves and they’ve achieved that already, over a thousand times.
Tumblr media
THE SAINT
the saint [noun, latin origin] refers to a character that has taken upon themselves the role of saint via listening to prayers, concerns and troubles of others. characters falling under this cathegory are obviously merely metaphorical saints, which is a quality many people struggle to realize. the saints are said to be helpful and caring under any circumstance, believing that making themselves useful increases their self worth in the eyes of people they care about. they often forget that they are indeed humans in roles of saints, that they still have human limitations and problems that can potentially pile up until they fall from the metaphorical heavens they occupy...yet mostly, this doesn't stop them from taking burdens from people and putting it on their own back in hopes of being more responsible in taking care of them. there's strange naivety in the good they do, slight hope that they can take everything and anything they try to fix and help out with. this naivety is often replaced with denial and regret as soon as one realizes that sometimes, it's impossible to pose as a saint. but that's just the tragic cycle of them - trying to help out, getting dragged from heavens by the burden they voluntarily stole, falling, laying on the ground wide-eyed and tired before climbing back into the clouds again. as of now, there's no cure to being one of the saints - it is up to them to realize that they are not responsible for anyone's happiness apart from their own and that it's not selfish to put them before others. it's natural and - as much as they want to stray away from it - human. - a fellow saint

It’s Wednesday my dudes. have a snippet of this OG thing I’ve been freshening up. I might post the rest of it within the next couple weeks, but for now enjoy the girls having a totally normal coffee date :)
“So, Jay,” Nadya said coyly, lifting her steaming mug of coffee up to her lips for a quick sip, “Is this a date?”
Jayde released an amused breath as she scanned the humble cafe before settling back on her with a crooked grin. “What else would it be?”
The irresistible warmth of her brown eyes reflected the string lights that hung in the window they sat by, adding a twinkle to her next lighthearted words. “Well, you did try to pass it off as a stakeout, but I’m not so sure it is.”
Nadya only teased to relieve some of the tension. They were on a stakeout. Jayde had received word of hunter activity a mere few towns away from The Lodge. Far too close for comfort. If it were up to her, Jayde would have come by herself and dealt with the situation before it got out of hand, but even she knew when to approach a problem a little more tactfully. Besides, she would draw too much attention on her own. Two young women enjoying coffee together? Couldn’t get more normal and inconspicuous than that.
Which was why the two of them had been there all morning, seated by the window with the best view of the main street. Though, Jayde also kept a very watchful eye on every customer that came and went. Anyone could be an enemy.
Nadya didn’t serve only as cover. Stakeouts could take days and Jayde could hardly stand being separated from her for hours. Surely it wasn’t so bad to utilize some of the downtime to enjoy her company.
“You caught me,” Jayde replied with a smooth sarcastic timbre, crossing her arms on the table and leaning in. “I made up the hunters so I could drag you to a random coffee shop an hour and a half away. Figured you were bored with the one at home.”
Nadya leaned in, too, and matched the wolf’s smirk. “You’re so romantic.”
Jayde eyed the display case of freshly made pastries and various other baked goods by the front counter, the scents of which were almost nauseatingly sweet, but no less enticing. “How about I buy you a piece of pie to make up for it?”
One of Nadya’s brows shot up in intrigue. “You really know your way to a woman’s heart, Jayde Thatcher.”
“Proud to say that I know yours very well,” she replied with a wink and got up.
Jayde made her way to the counter and returned the barista’s warm smile and greeting. She had learned enough not to have to rely on her heightened senses in order to tell if a stranger was genuine or not, but Jayde always found it more difficult to discern when it came to customer service workers. It impressed her. If Jayde had to deal with ill mannered stupidity every day for hours on end, she would not have the patience to maintain a happy-go-lucky act in the slightest.
The boy manning the espresso machine behind the woman taking her order didn’t seem to have that particular talent, either. He grumbled profanities under his breath and hit every visible button, but the machine only stuttered and grumbled in response.
Jayde ignored it and motioned to the display case as she fished a few bills out of her pocket. “I’ll take a slice of the pecan pie.”
The barista accepted the money, her grin still present even when another coworker groaned loudly as they swooped in to save the — no doubt expensive — espresso machine from further abuse. “We could warm it up for you, if you’d like?”
“Sure, sounds great,” Jayde answered, dropping her change in the tip jar and returning to her table.
“What’s the plan if we find hunters?” Nadya asked as soon as Jayde sat back down.
The blonde shrugged and took a swig from her mug. “Depends on how many there are. If it’s only a few, I can take care of it. If it turns out to be a big group, we’ll have to go back to The Lodge and figure out a plan to lead them away.”
The human’s expression grew a bit dark. “By take care of it, you mean…”
“Nadya, you know I can’t let hunters be this close to us.”
“I know,” she said quickly and gripped her mug in both hands. “And I know what these people do. I’m not trying to argue against it.”
“You don’t have to be involved,” Jayde assured her.
“I already am,” Nadya said quietly.
Jayde didn’t realize until that moment that Nadya was right. The concept hadn’t even crossed her mind. Killing hunters had become second nature to her after so many years of survival. Jayde hated them. She hated the constant threat they posed to her family. Wiping a hunter out of existence was just as easy as getting rid of any pest. But regardless of how she felt about it, the truth was it was still taking a life. Nadya preserved life. It went against her nature to cause harm. Jayde loved her for that. The fact that she unintentionally made her complicit felt like a worse offense than murder, and it hadn’t been the first time.
Jayde shook her head and stared down at the contents of her mug in shame. She felt so selfish for taking her human girlfriend on such an endeavor instead of Toby or even Skye. “Fuck, I wasn’t thinking. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought you with me.”
“No, no,” Nadya said quickly and rested her hand on Jayde’s. “I chose to come. I want to help keep home safe – keep you safe, I just… I guess I’m still trying to accept everything that comes along with that.”
A very brief smile tugged at the corner of Jayde’s mouth. She appreciated the bravery it took for someone like her to be a part of this, but also understood the grim reality that Nadya must come to terms with about the life she now had to live. Half of Jayde was shocked it hadn’t scared the human away from her yet.
“I know,” Jayde said solemnly.
“Here’s your pie,” a young male voice interrupted.
Jayde looked up to see the boy who struggled with the espresso machine place a plate down between them, along with utensils and napkins. He seemed in better spirits now, but he still avoided their gazes with a reddish tint to his soft features. Jayde heard the thrum of his heartbeat and felt a small measure of pity for his embarrassment.
“Thank you,” Nadya said warmly with a grateful smile. The boy nodded and walked away. Then she addressed Jayde. “Let’s pause the morality talk for some pie, yeah?”
Jayde laughed at the lighthearted suggestion and the playful look on Nadya’s features as the girl dug in. “Pie beats morality every time.”
Nadya chuckled and shook her head, but still shrugged in agreement. She speared another bite onto her fork before she even finished chewing the first. “You want some of this? It’s pretty good.”
“Sure,” Jayde accepted and reached for her own fork.
As soon as her fingers made contact, a violent burst of white-hot pain assaulted her skin. It shocked her enough that she dropped the fork unceremoniously and sent it clattering against the ceramic plate and onto the wood table with a few loud clangs. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw startled heads snap in their direction from around the entire cafe. Nadya jumped a bit in surprise, too, and stared at Jayde in question.
The werewolf had about half a beat to understand and react. The fork was silver. It had been intentionally placed as a trap to expose her. There were no doubts within her mind. Somewhere in the shop, a hunter had their eyes on her.
Jayde would not give them the satisfaction. The encounter had to be on her terms. She needed to pretend the slip up had been a regular case of mundane clumsiness.
With a shake of her head and a light laugh, Jayde met Nadya’s confused gaze and forced herself to pick up the fork again.
Agony flared across her entire hand as if she had reached into a furnace to pull the utensil out. Jayde dealt with silver fairly often, but never so voluntarily. No matter how many times she endured direct contact, she just never got used to the unique burn of it. Seconds ticked by like minutes as it felt like her skin was being flayed off with a molten knife. It took all of her willpower to keep a calm expression.
“It’s okay,” she told Nadya quietly through clenched teeth, trying to keep her hand from trembling as she speared a bite of the pie. “It’s silver.”
Nadya’s eyes widened as she glanced down at her hand in alarm. “What are you –?”
“Relax,” Jayde instructed. She placed the bite in her mouth, careful not to come in direct contact with the silver more than she had to, and set the fork back down. The relief was so immense after she let go that she almost slumped in her chair with a heavy sigh. “What coffee shop has genuine silver utensils?”
Jayde saw Nadya’s swift thought process put it together in hardly a second. She put on a calm façade just as quickly and casually took another bite, though the sudden scent of her fear caused the wolf in Jayde to stir protectively. “What do we do?”
“Just finish our stuff,” Jayde answered plainly and tried to hide her injured hand. “Then we’ll take a walk and see if anyone follows us.”
“Your hand,” she said and reached across the table. Her fingers gently wrapped around Jayde’s wrist and subtly twisted her palm upwards to inspect the damage with a glance. In an effort to pass it off as flirtation, she caressed all the way up Jayde’s forearm and picked off a loose thread from her jacket. It wasn’t all an act. Jayde felt the underlying effects of her genuine comfort.
Jayde flashed an easygoing smile and shrugged. “It’s nothing.”
A quick grimace of concern came across Nadya’s face and Jayde guessed it wasn’t only for her hand. The stakeout suddenly became very real. Jayde’s own fear for her beloved human’s safety gripped her heart in a vice, but she pushed it aside in order to stay focused.
The two of them continued on as if nothing was wrong, hoping to throw the hunters off. Jayde still felt a deep unease at the back of her mind that grew steadily by the minute. It told her they definitely hadn’t gone unnoticed or completely diffused suspicion. Eyes were on them and it took more than a little self control not to look.
Once they finished up, Jayde nodded and they casually headed towards the exit. Again, she felt those eyes on her back, scrutinizing their every movement. Her spine prickled.
She pulled Nadya close and instructed her quietly, “Do not leave my side unless I tell you to.”
“Wasn’t planning on it,” the human replied and laced their fingers together.

Winter Wonderland at The Lodge
words: 2.1k warnings: none tags: holiday fluff, werewolf girlfriend acts like a puppy
okay so I may have cheated and combined a few prompts, but I really liked the idea of having a small little holiday fic for them because I used to do it every year. The prompts are: snowball fight, kiss under the mistletoe, and cuddle in front of the fireplace requested by @adelaidedrubman @inafieldofdaisies @aceghosts @cassietrn thank you all so much, hope you don’t mind!
Nadya reveled in the wonderful sensation of snow beneath her boots. The sound was immensely satisfying, like all of the times she went out of her way to step on a fallen autumn leaf just to hear that one of a kind, delicate crunch, only now it was every step on the mountain trail. Not enough wolves or game had cleared the path of white powder, so the human trudged on through it with a beaming smile that not many understood in this particular weather.
The last time Nadya had been in the snow she was nearly too young to fully understand it. Blurred memories surfaced as a light flurry came down around her, the tiny snowflakes melting almost instantly once they landed on her shoulders. She recalled a lumpy clump of ice in her palm that she had attempted to mold into a snowball, but lacked any coordinated technique given that her hands were so tiny. She kept trying, but it annoyed her how fast her fingers went painfully numb until, eventually, she just gave up. A shiver accompanied the memory and Nadya adjusted her beanie and pulled her coat tighter over the layers she wore to keep the winter’s sharp bite at bay.
A soft rustle in the trees drew her attention. Nadya scanned the woods, but couldn’t see much in the dense white landscape. The trail didn’t go near any patrol routes, so she doubted it was a werewolf. Even if it was, they would give her a wide berth out of courtesy. Jayde made sure of that. Must be a deer or some other critter scavenging for scraps. She pulled her camera out of her bag and continued on.
Nadya didn’t keep track of all the photos she took, but she started to wonder if she would run out of all the film she received as an early Christmas gift. The magical winter forest was just too beautiful not to appreciate both in person and behind the lens of her camera. From the sugar dusted landscape to large paw prints along the trail, Nadya captured it all. She was so engrossed, in fact, that she almost hadn’t noticed the snap of a twig close by, soon followed by another several paces from the first.
Whatever it may be, it was moving fast.
This time she felt certain that something out there watched her. The feeling crept up her spine and caused a deeper shiver than the cold did. Nadya lowered her camera and searched the woods around her once again. Her instinct felt too strong to ignore and she did not appreciate being stalked.
“I can hear you,” she called out. “Do you need something?”
Silence overtook the forest.
Nadya backed away as she tried not to let unease settle too heavily in her gut. Perhaps it was only a deer. She couldn’t imagine any werewolf would dare toy with her like this.
The human was about to turn around and walk back up the trail towards the Lodge when her legs connected with something large and soft behind her. Nadya jumped back with a startled yelp. She flipped around to see a massive white wolf stood in her path, tail wagging and tongue lolling out in a wolfish grin. It had been her all along.
“Are you serious?” Nadya yelled, though laughter broke through her irritation.
Jayde sat on her haunches and looked far too pleased with herself. The stark white color of her fur blended seamlessly with their surroundings. She probably didn’t even need to try that hard to slink around unnoticed in this weather. Nadya never would have spotted her at a distance.
“You scared me, you know,” she complained and put her camera away.
Jayde let out a short bark and bowed playfully as if she were an energetic puppy and not a werewolf who could rip a grown man to shreds in seconds flat.
“That’s how you wanna do this, huh?” Nadya bent down and scooped up a handful of snow. Unlike her past self, her hands were bigger and much more deft now. She easily shaped a perfect sphere of snow. The wolf barked again and dodged in the blink of an eye, but Nadya had already launched the snowball in her direction and it impacted with a dull thud. With a triumphant laugh, she said “I might not be a softball lesbian, but I still have damn good aim!”
Jayde frolicked around her and Nadya scrambled to make another snowball. She feinted left, but Nadya anticipated the move. All of their training sessions taught her what to expect from Jayde, even in a play fight. This time, the clump of snow connected with her face and she shook it off with an indignant snort.
“I know all your tricks by now,” Nadya boasted and quickly sent another volley at her.
They went back and forth – the werewolf running in sporadic circles to avoid incoming attacks as the human used tree trunks as cover while she built her arsenal. Snow now caked the thick white fur of Jayde’s coat, making her look even fluffier than usual. She could pass as a polar bear, Nadya thought. She landed another hit and realized Jayde had enough of losing.
Nadya saw it coming. “Don’t do it!” she shouted, but had no power to stop her girlfriend’s retaliation.
Jayde leapt and her massive wolf body tackled the human into a pile of soft powder. Nadya’s startled cry became a giggle, which quickly turned into uncontrollable laughter as Jayde’s snout poked at all of her ticklish spots. She tried to wrestle her head away, but Jayde was relentless. Then Nadya wrapped her hands around her muzzle and firmly clamped it shut, causing an indignant growl to rumble in the wolf’s chest.
“What are you gonna do now?” she challenged.
Jayde tried to shake her grip loose, but Nadya held on tighter, forcing her to use one of her giant paws to pry the girl’s hands off. Nadya knew full well that Jayde needed to be gentle with her and she took full advantage of that, shrugging her claws away. Jayde knew it, too. After a frustrated huff out of her nose, another more intimidating growl vibrated throughout her whole body like a clap of thunder, but it had no effect on the human at all. Nadya simply cocked a brow and placed a quick kiss on the werewolf’s nose. That shut her up fast.
However, just when Nadya was about to claim victory, Jayde’s eyes twinkled mischievously and she plopped herself down right on top of her like a Great Dane who thinks it’s a lap dog. Nadya became completely pinned to the ground, sinking further into the pile of freezing snow that melted rapidly under their combined heat. She lay there groaning for a few moments before the weight became too much.
“Alright, alright. Truce?” she suggested in a strained voice.
Jayde nodded and stood up at the same time Nadya released her muzzle. The girl sat up and shook her head with an exasperated sigh, staring into the glowing amber eyes before her. There was an anticipated pause.
“Well, hello,” Nadya finally greeted with a giggle and held her arms out.
The white wolf immediately fell into her embrace, nuzzling against the human and knocking her beanie askew. Nadya ran her hands through her fur, enjoying the soft, insulated warmth of her wolf form. Jayde was definitely built for this kind of weather. It made Nadya want to curl up with her somewhere quiet in the pines with the smell of campfire smoke in the breeze, but the melted snow had started to soak into the layers of her clothes. She shivered again. This time her teeth chattered as she held the wolf closer for comfort. Jayde whined in concern.
“Yeah,” Nadya agreed and reluctantly pulled away to stand up. “Maybe we should head back. I think I need to rest by the fire.”
That idea brightened the wolf’s demeanor. Her jaws carefully snatched onto Nadya’s sleeve, pulling her in the direction of The Lodge. Nadya chuckled again and eagerly followed. Just in time, too, because the snow storm returned with a vengeance by the time they got back indoors.
They went to their room first so that Nadya could shed her wet clothes and Jayde to change back into her human form. For Jayde, the process barely took a minute, two if she hadn’t shifted in a while. To this day, it fascinated Nadya to see. The ease with which she flowed from one form to the other and back again. Her breaking bones seemed to bother her as little as cracking joints.
Nadya always loved to touch her after a shift – to lace their fingers together, hold her close, and feel the residual wild heat of the animal that still lingered just beneath the surface of her skin. If she looked closely, she could see shimmers of gold in the fibers of her midnight blue eyes. That’s what she loved the most. And Nadya knew how to draw the wolf back out whenever she wanted, too.
“Did you look up?” she asked, lingering halfway out of their room as they started towards The Den.
Jayde flashed a crooked grin. “Didn’t need to. I could smell mistletoe from down the hall.”
Almost as soon as Jayde left for patrol that morning, Nadya opened the package she had hidden in the closet and hung it right above the doorway. She knew if she didn’t act fast, Jayde in all her romantic tendencies would beat her to it. For once, Nadya wanted to jump the gun for their first real Christmas season together.
Without further hesitation, Nadya leaned in. Even the way Jayde kissed her felt more intense after a turn. Jayde’s lips were warm enough to chase away any chill. She grabbed onto the girl’s hips with retrained strength, but her fingers still dug desperately into her skin. Her passionate cadence had that underlying primal hunger, which compelled a human like Nadya to surrender to it, but she was well accustomed to the desire of a wolf and knew how to calm its restless spirit when needed. A gentle caress down the sides of Jayde’s neck drew out a low, inhuman sound similar to a growl, but not quite as harsh. A submissive sound, Nadya thought. It slowed the ardent push and pull into something more tender, dulling both of their minds in an utterly blissful stupor.
As they pulled away, Nadya smiled at the bright golden irises that stared back at her. In a blink, they faded.
“You did that on purpose,” Jayde said.
Nadya gazed at her not so innocently. “Will you make me cocoa?”
The blonde laughed and pulled her girlfriend along. “Anything for you.”
With a winter storm raging outside, The Den started to gain more wolves in search of leisure time. Some were at the bar, others at the pool tables, but Jayde and Nadya claimed their usual spot right in front of the fireplace. Flames crackled and popped as they danced against the blackened brick.
Nadya sat in between Jayde’s legs on an old leather couch, leaning back against her chest and happily sipping on a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Jayde always went above and beyond to make it gourmet style for her. Fancy chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, homemade whipped cream, festive sprinkles. Most importantly, she made it with love. It put those cheap packets to shame and Nadya practically lived off of those every winter at her old apartment.
“How was patrol?” Nadya asked, placing her hand on Jayde’s knee and giving it a warm squeeze.
“Boring as hell,” she answered and nuzzled against the side of Nadya’s head in much the same way she had as a wolf earlier. “Until I found a no good human on the wrong side of the property line.”
“I hope you took care of that,” Nadya replied with mock-concern.
Jayde hummed into the curve of her human’s neck. “I’m afraid she’ll keep causing me trouble.”
The brunette scoffed. “Not nearly as much trouble as you give her.”
“Well, there’s a new year coming. Who knows what might happen?”
A warm, content grin came across Nadya’s face at the hope she heard in her girlfriend’s voice. Almost as if Jayde actually looked forward to another year. Perhaps she did. It certainly felt that way when her arms tightened around Nadya’s waist as they watched the fire together.
“As long as you stay with me, I think it’ll all work out, Jay.”
“I think so too, love,” she agreed softly.

05. MOTHER'S DAUGHTER
Being her child was akin to a whispered apology, another wailing hug, another day you repent for complaining about the fact that she hasn't said anything nice to you. You bring her flowers and are met with the inconvenience of a vase that has to be found instead. You bake for her and feel the warmth of fresh cut bread fill the kitchen; but the dirty dishes remain. Even if you were to bring in the mail and lay down the knife next to your plate, she'll cradle another. Love is an endless apology to you. Averting eyes to desperate tears and sunken teeth in lower lip at the dinner table. Do not repent for who you are, as it is enough. Gather your courage to love again and reveal the honeydewed structure of a swelling heart once you feel safe to do so instead. Love isn't a confession booth of all you are not, settle down and unclasp your hands. You're all anyone could want already.
note: proof that you don’t need a biological mother to have mommy issues. I was really surprised by this result at first and wasn’t sure it quite fit, but it really does describe what it felt like for Imogen to have Rejna as a master.

07. FATHER'S SON
Breathe down your own neck, it's the sound of smashing fist against furniture in another room again. The wringing hem of cloth and pattern of an escalating heart. Love is tumultous to you. There is grief and disguised forgiveness to damp down the yearning. A permanent fear of tender flesh spilling out, still- you must refrain of growing attached to the fear you had installed into you. Let go of the notion that love is still to be cherished with a hole in the head. Scrub crimson ancestry off wooden floors and try again tomorrow when your hands don't shake cold from the blood loss. Love isn't a fist to escape. Fill the hole in your head with cotton and know you are to be adored. You are deserving of an embrace without flinching.
note: growing up as a Lolth Sworn drow in the Underdark and hating it. Wanting something more kind and joyful out of life. Yeah.

06. CANíBALES; DEVOURER
Love's a knife to skin to you, a vein to woven muscle, blood puddle before you. You listened to all the promises of a stranger's relief and feel the drain of a shower head running it all down again. You committed another murder; kissed and bruised skin with a clench to a quivering wrist and went home in the defeaning quiet of a taxi. There's mold covered rage within you. If to take a heart home with you, you'd bite your way through muscle and ribcage first. Pleasure comes, but there will be no devouring past it. There is fear in settling down and being seen. There is a glass screen between these bodies and you. Relax your tight jaw and feel the real canine fear beneath that scabbed up cavity. The sacrifice of opening up is needed if to be loved as you deeply wish inside. Desire doesn't discriminate between hands or spoken word. Why should you?
note: perfect result for a werewolf who fights so fiercely and is desperate to love completely despite how scared she is.

03. CUPID'S BROTHER
You have been love adjacent all your life. The faint spill of another story that softly grazed your shoulders when stood too close. Whether by design or not, you have yet to build a clear image of what love means to you. The interlocked weaving of a picture locket bound to strand of hair when hugged to tight, the sunpatch that meets your soles in glaring sun dried fields when running with a friend. You are not far from love, but moving between line of collision and avoidance at all times. A faint glimmer on sea lake surface of what could be. There is time to find what you want, find whether it's enough as is. Love is in you, breathing in another day. Continue as you are, realizing the love that is slowly blossoming in your life as it sharpens and clears in brushstrokes.
note: oh, Nadya… putting your emotional needs on the back burner for so long. At least she finally has that Oh moment with Jayde.

DESPAIR
The tunnel never had a light. You wish for nothing because you know you'll receive nothing, and your hopes died out long ago. The only thing that keeps you going is the thrill of emptiness you feel when things don't turn out your way. It's bitter. It's proof. Proof that you don't feel this way for nothing.
note: how she felt for the majority of her life deep down… Imogen “I don’t deserve a happy ending and I don’t want one” Kol right here. What being misplaced in the Jedi does to a mf. Luckily this mindset shifts once she fully accepts Bix into her heart.
Tumblr media
THE BLACK HOLE
There's a hole where your heart used to be and nothing is filling that hollow void. You could drown in a world curated for you, and still nothing seems to fit. It eats you alive knowing you're unsure how to satiate the hunger of your soul. It's barely hunger, it's more like a blackhole.
note: now that Morgan is dead and she’s stranded in a different galaxy, Adhira is very much struggling now that she lacks any purpose. But then again….maybe she always did.
Tumblr media
YEARNING
The pain in your chest bubbles knowing that what you want may never be yours. You're lost in a fantasy world, or consumed by what you wish you were or had as opposed to what you do. It's hard to appreciate what's around you when you're appreciating the hope of what could be instead.
note: Desperately wants what she believes she can’t have. Love. Happiness. A life without constantly fighting. If only she just opened her eyes and realized it’s all there, she just needs to be brave enough to take it.
Tumblr media
THE GIVER
Your energy depletes as you hand it out to anyone passing by your basket. People walk by and take, but no one ever leaves. You're constantly running on low when people keep asking you to give. You'd give your soul away for free, and then what left do you have of yourself if you can't say no?
note: she has issues with overworking herself and becoming so immersed in taking care of others that she neglects her own needs. It’s mostly because she deeply cares, but it’s also because she wants to outrun the things that haunt her.

Old Scars and New
word count: 3.3k warnings: blood, injury tending, disaster bisexual werewolf being cringe af tags: bandaging/stitching up wounds prompt
this is a slightly altered/updated version of my most popular piece of writing for this verse and thought I'd share it in my continued journey of rebuilding my relationship with my og works!
“Alright, who’s up first?” Nadya announced once everyone filed into the motel room.
Skye flashed a sly grin at the sight of Nadya putting her glasses on. “Ooh, are we gonna play doctor?”
Jayde rolled her eyes and dumped her bag onto the floor, barely holding back a wince. The scent of her own blood invaded her lungs and she already felt bruises forming, but the aches and pains were far from uncommon occurrences. She dismissed any concern. “I’m fine.”
Nadya ignored their comments and pointed at both of the siblings. “You two. Sit.”
“Are you going to tell me to roll over too?” Skye remarked.
At the same time, Jayde reiterated grumpily “I said I’m fine.”
The human threw them a stern glare. Nadya may appear soft and approachable most of the time – even meek to those who underestimated her – but the wolves quickly discovered that she had a hidden talent for intimidation when she wanted to. Jayde and Skye simultaneously took their seats at the edge of one of the beds without further protest.
Satisfied with their obedience, Nadya turned to Toby. “How are you feeling?”
“Right as rain,” he replied.
She made a spin motion with her hand. “Twirl.” He held up his arms and turned in one slow circle, showing her that he was unscathed. “Nothing’s hurting?”
“Nope.”
She concluded her thorough scan with a pat on his shoulder. “Okay, you’re good.”
Toby gave the sisters a childish smirk like he won a game and said “Ha.” Then sauntered over to a chair.
Well, if the game went to whoever got hurt the least, then Jayde would never win. She almost scoffed at herself because the competitive side of her that came out around Toby hated the fact that she’d lose anything to him. She even made a mental note to be more careful the next time they encountered hunters just so that she could rub her success in his face. Maybe that was his real motive – to try a tactic that would work on a toddler simply to get the reckless blonde to take better care of herself. Jayde wouldn’t put it past him.
Nadya addressed Skye next. “You got hit on the head pretty hard. How are you feeling?”
The young wolf widened her eyes. “I can see new colors now.”
Nadya laughed and fished out a small flashlight from her bag. “How about dizziness or nausea?”
Jayde watched on as Nadya carefully combed her fingers through Skye’s hair in search of any damage hidden in the light blonde waves. Skye kicked her feet like a little kid getting a check-up, but Jayde noted how her crooked smile evened out to something more… genuine.
Skye was rarely ever anything but mischievous, as if life were just one big joke to her. Of course, there were precious few moments when her serious self would shine through, where there were no jokes to be made and she acted fairly mellow, much to her older sister’s relief. Jayde was shocked to see that happen more often when she interacted with Nadya.
“I feel fine,” Skye answered, then flinched when Nadya touched the sore spot on her head. “Ow! But that hurts.”
“Sorry.” Nadya winced apologetically. “I don’t see any blood, at least.”
The tip of her finger tapped under Skye’s chin to get her to look up. It was then that Jayde noticed she had been chewing on the inside of her cheek. Skye went still as Nadya shined the light in her eyes. It felt like an eternity to Jayde. To see Nadya be so close to her sister, touching her in ways that Jayde longed for. The older wolf realized – with a hot flush to her cheeks – that she was jealous of Skye. That made her bite her cheek even harder as she forced herself to look down.
Nadya stepped away, allowing Jayde to finally breathe normally again. “You don’t have a concussion, but I suggest you ice that for tonight.”
“Sounds good, doc,” she replied with a wink.
Just when Jayde thought she might get over the momentary lapse in her emotions, Nadya blushed. It was subtle enough that she might have been able to convince herself that she imagined it, but her thoughts took what she saw regardless of rationality and ran.
The possibility had never occurred to her until that moment, but Jayde started to wonder if maybe Skye had feelings for the human, too. Jayde certainly couldn’t blame her if she did. It was Nadya, after all. This girl practically had Jayde wrapped around her finger the first day they met. The thing that ate at Jayde more than that were Nadya’s reactions to Skye. She wouldn’t have that hard of a time believing she also felt something for her. Her sister – in all of her annoying glory – was just as much of a catch.
The concept felt nearly unbearable to consider, but Jayde knew that she would never stand in the way of her sister’s happiness or Nadya’s. Especially if it meant Nadya would get to be with someone far more worthy of her affections. Deep down, Jayde has been looking for a good, rock solid excuse to let her go. This possible outcome might be the easiest to accept. That didn’t mean it wasn’t exceptionally painful.
Wallowing in a pit of her own creation caused Jayde to tune the rest of the world out until Nadya’s voice brought her back down to earth.
“Crap, I grabbed the wrong kit,” she grumbled as she sifted through her bag.
Skye gasped dramatically. “Language.”
“You’re right, I’m sorry,” Nadya said with an amused scoff and backed up towards the door. “I’m gonna go back to the car. I’ll pick up some ice for your head on the way back, too.”
“Toby,” Jayde commanded with a purposeful glance. Despite being clear of immediate danger, she didn’t want anyone going anywhere by themselves. Not even to the parking lot.
He nodded in understanding and got up. “Yeah, I’ll go with her.”
Before they left, Nadya locked eyes with Jayde. For that single second, all of her worries were utterly nonexistent. “We’ll be back in a few minutes. Try not to get into any more trouble.”
“No promises,” Skye replied. Jayde looked to see that the devious smirk had returned to her face.
The siblings remained seated on the musty motel bed once Toby and Nadya disappeared. The comforter felt scratchy, but Jayde still balled her fists into the fabric and stared at the worn carpet underneath her blood splattered boots. Something metallic tickled the edge of her tongue and she sighed at the sting that shortly followed, releasing her flesh from her own vengeful teeth.
“So, what crawled up your ass?” Skye asked to break the awkward silence.
Jayde gave her a brief side-glance. “Nothing.”
“Right.” Her words already dripped with sarcasm. “You’re just acting like you have to take Old Yeller out back for no reason.”
Jayde felt a brief spark boil in her chest, but it died out as quickly as it came. She didn’t have the will to be angry or defensive. She only sighed again and forced her question out. “Do you like her?”
There was no hesitation in Skye’s answer. “Yeah, of course I like her.”
“No, I mean… Do you like her?"
Confusion twisted the younger wolf’s features as she blinked at Jayde for several moments. Jayde wordlessly begged not to make her spell it out. The question alone was already mortifying enough. As soon as her meaning fully sank in, Skye’s expression promptly turned incredulous.
“Forget it,” Jayde said curtly.
But Skye already jumped on it. “No, you know what? I do like her. I really, really like her. Yeah, I want her to have my babies.”
Jayde had to fight the urge to growl. “It was a genuine question, Skye.”
“And you’re a genuine idiot,” she fired back with no remorse. “I don’t want your girlfriend, Jayde.”
“She’s not my girlfriend.”
“She could be.”
“She shouldn’t.”
Skye raised an eyebrow. “That’s not very progressive of you. You’re sounding like Miranda with that old world bullshit. Who cares if Nadya is a human? Just be careful not to break or bite her. That simple.”
Jayde shook her head. “It’s not that…”
The slow nod she saw out of the corner of her eye turned into a shrug as Skye leaned into her. “What if you’re wrong about yourself?” she whispered like a kid telling a secret.
They fell back into another prolonged silence as Jayde rocked back and forth anxiously. She wasn’t wrong about herself, but Jayde somehow still had the smallest bit of hope that she could become someone Nadya deserves. That if she tried to be better, she wouldn’t fight this so hard or put herself through all of this pain. She had it in her. Somewhere. Buried underneath dirt and dust. The best version would peek through the cracks of everything broken about her whenever that girl was near. Jayde just had to figure out a way to widen the fractures and reach through.
But she worried she would break herself even more by doing that.
After a minute, her lungs deflated once more in utter hopelessness. “I am an idiot.”
Familiar footsteps approached the room and Skye nudged her older sister with her elbow. “Chin up, sport.”
Jayde managed to give her a grateful look just as the others returned. Nadya held a small bag of ice in one hand and a different first aid kit in the other. She went to Skye first and handed her the ice for her head.
Guilt immediately flooded Jayde’s system for feeling so jealous. Nadya put in so much effort to take care of them all and Jayde had been worried that she wanted her sister over her. She needed to get over herself.
“Okay, you’re good to go. Just take it easy,” Nadya ordered.
Skye enthusiastically jumped to her feet while balancing the ice pack on top of her head. “Great, I’m gonna go get tacos across the street.”
“Don’t go alone,” Jayde called as she skipped towards the door.
She waved dismissively. “Yeah, yeah, buddy system.”
“You guys want anything?” Toby asked before he trailed after her.
“Just get me whatever you get,” Jayde said.
“Okay. Nadya?”
Nadya sounded slightly distracted as she prepared the kit. “Uh, what kinds are there?”
“Asada, pollo, carnitas.” When she took too long to ponder the options, he translated in a patronizing tone “Beef, chicken, pork.”
She looked up and fixed him with an exasperated stare. “I know what they mean, I was just thinking.”
Toby chuckled. “Any day now.”
“Get me chicken.”
He gave a casual thumbs up. “You got it.”
The motel room grew quiet again once it became only the two young women. The wolf took time to let the human’s presence calm the restless being within. She focused on how her air of crisp autumn spices encompassed her senses, even over the scents of the others. What fascinated Jayde was how her existence always broke through the most powerful things. Werewolves had an incredibly distinct and potent scent, so being around her pack should have masked the humanness of Nadya’s scent. But it didn’t. In fact, Jayde often sensed her before she sensed anything or anyone else. It was always her first.
“Your turn?” Nadya suggested softly, immediately drawing Jayde’s full attention.
Up to that point, she had completely forgotten about her injuries. “Oh, right.”
Nadya came directly to her, standing just inches away. Jayde stared up at her and waited, totally transfixed. “Let’s get a look at that arm.”
Jayde realized she needed to remove her jacket. She snapped herself out of her trance and carefully slipped out of it, grimacing as the fabric tugged at the graze on her bicep. Blood had mostly soaked into the jacket itself, but streaks of crimson still smeared across her skin and reached as low as her wrist.
Nadya bent down and adjusted her glasses to get a better look, but that furrow in her brow looked like it took too much effort. “Do you think we could move to the bathroom? The lighting sucks out here and I gotta get you cleaned up.”
“Yeah.”
Nadya followed closely behind as they entered the bathroom, but lingered over Jayde’s shoulder after turning the light on. “Hey, did you take a hit to the back?”
Jayde craned her neck to see why she looked so concerned, but couldn’t see much of anything. The strain of twisting only made her injured shoulder spike with pain. “Um, I’m not sure. Maybe? I remember getting punched or something.”
“There’s blood, Jay,” Nadya informed her, still inspecting the wound. “Take this off.”
Jayde felt her entire body flare with intense heat as Nadya tugged at her shirt. She hesitated for a few beats to let the embarrassment pass. It wasn’t like Nadya hadn't seen her without a shirt on before. Hell, she’s seen her naked. She’s seen her turn into a goddamn werewolf, for fuck’s sake. Jayde wanted to curse at herself for being so stupid.
She struggled to get out of the shirt on her own. It was enough that her shoulder felt as sore as it did, but now that she had been made aware of it, the wound on Jayde’s back stung like a bitch. As much as she wanted to hide her pain, she wasn’t able to stop herself from flinching when she tried to work one of her arms out of the ruined clothing.
“Here, let me –” Nadya reached to help, but then her pulse spiked in the wolf’s ears like a drum had been struck and she stopped short. “Can I..?”
“Sure, yeah,” Jayde stammered and braced herself as the human stepped into her space.
Nadya’s hands carefully gripped the bottom of the bloodied shirt and slowly pushed it up her torso. Jayde could tell that she tried not to, but there were still a couple of times where her fingers brushed up against bare skin. Jayde clenched her jaw tightly. Just those small, brief touches caused intense tingling to spread outwards from the places of contact. She shut her eyes and held her breath as her wolf fought to rise to the surface. A shiver raced along Jayde’s spine as she quickly dampened it. After a tense half-second, she felt the restless animal reluctantly retreat.
Despite nearly losing control, Jayde didn’t feel afraid. Maybe because she knew Nadya wasn’t in any danger. The wolf only wanted a glimpse of her, but the last thing Jayde wanted was to cause any potential fear. She certainly didn’t want to think up some shitty excuse to explain why her eyes started to glow.
The two of them successfully got the shirt over Jayde’s head with minimal pain and discarded it on the floor. Meeting Nadya’s gaze after that felt far braver than facing any hunter. She had this look in her warm brown eyes that Jayde couldn’t quite decipher. However, the physical effect in Nadya’s body was more obvious. Being so close, Jayde sensed it all.
An erratic heartbeat. A clipped breath caught in her throat. A blooming scent that tempted Jayde nearer.
Those were not things she noticed in Nadya with anyone else, Jayde realized.
“I’m going to, uh…” Nadya motioned awkwardly, finally just shuffling behind her again.
Jayde cleared her throat to banish her own nerves and brushed her tangled hair over her shoulder. “How’s it looking back there?”
“This is pretty deep,” she murmured and began to clean it. “You really didn’t feel this?”
Jayde tensed at the incredibly cold sensation of a disinfectant wipe against her hot skin, but she still gave a half shrug. “I remember being hit, but that’s all.”
“Well, you got lucky. It could have punctured your lung.”
Jayde set her hands on the edge of the sink and watched Nadya’s reflection carefully through the mirror. “Yeah, I feel lucky.”
“That better not be sarcasm. Not when I’m looking at all these scars.” Nadya scolded as she got the stitches ready. “It looks like you should be dead ten times over.”
“It’s because I should be.”
They briefly shared a look. Nadya’s expression remained unreadable. Not that Jayde had the time to properly study it before she went back to work.
She didn’t say anything while she made a few sutures — being too focused on her task of mending a werewolf — but then Jayde saw her brown eyes peek over her shoulder again. “I’m really glad you aren’t, by the way.”
Jayde exhaled an almost whispered response. “Me too.”
A bandage was carefully placed over the newly stitched wound, but Nadya lingered behind her. Jayde wondered if maybe she had spotted another wound that hadn’t quite traveled through her nerves and up to her brain yet, but then felt an incredibly delicate sensation tickle her lower back. It took a moment for her to realize that it was the tip of Nadya’s finger trailing over what had to be one of her scars. Jayde froze in place, not having a single clue how to react.
“How many are there?” Nadya’s voice sounded distant.
Jayde gripped the edges of the sink so that she wouldn’t fall over as the girl traced another sensitive mark. She was afraid that the slightest movement would cause her to stop. “I’ve never counted.”
A soft hum echoed in the bathroom. “I guess you’ve got a couple more now. Which reminds me…” Nadya pulled her hand away, but before disappointment twisted an invisible knife in the werewolf’s chest, her palm rested on her hip and turned her around.
The human’s sudden willingness to touch her in ways that could be considered intimate left Jayde’s mind in a utter stupor, stirring her inner self once more. She didn’t know what to make of it. Or what to do. She knew what she wanted to do, though that remained a line Jayde felt she shouldn’t cross.
Nadya went to work on the laceration that cut through her upper arm and Jayde found herself thoroughly fascinated with the process. The human’s eyes were so focused, making sure each and every stitch was up to her standard. The way her brows knitted in concentration — the thin frame of her glasses resting on the bridge of her nose — replaced Jayde’s heart with a pair of fluttering wings. She could stare at her for hours.
Nadya finally glanced up while she wrapped her arm. This time, her blush was entirely noticeable. “What?”
The question made Jayde realize she had been smiling. She quickly looked away, though she couldn’t fully wipe the expression from her face. “Nothing.”
“Okay,” Nadya said slowly, confused amusement written on her face. “Well, I’m all done.”
Jayde nodded as she cleaned the mess up. As soon as the kit was packed, Nadya gave the wolf an unsure look and turned to leave the bathroom. On impulse, Jayde caught her wrist to stop her. A small gasp escaped Nadya’s lips at the unexpected touch, but she still waited expectantly.
“Thank you.” Jayde caressed the smooth curve of her wrist with her thumb. For the first time, she didn’t try to hide it. She wanted Nadya to feel her gratitude. “For taking care of us.”
Nadya’s features softened into an absolutely stunning smile. “I like taking care of you.”
It took everything Jayde had not to pull her in. She yearned to feel Nadya against her. Longed to brush their lips together. To hold her close and swallow every breath. Feel all the ways she could get her heart to race. Instead, Jayde’s fingers went slack and Nadya slipped out of her grasp, leaving her alone in the bathroom with the ghost of her contact still prickling across the surface of her skin.

Nothing “new” really this week, but I went back to reworking some old writing, so enjoy one of my favorite moments my og girlies, Jayde x Nadya, have during their second date
A humble town nestled at the base of the mountains that The Lodge remained safely hidden. It was always fairly quiet, just as Jayde preferred it. There were no large crowds or tourists. All of the businesses and markets relied primarily on the locals to keep afloat. The crime rate was practically nonexistent. Maybe the quaint size made it harder for people like her to blend in, but that also meant that any threats sniffing around definitely wouldn’t go unnoticed, either. Even Nadya, in her calm and approachable demeanor, turned a few heads as the two of them walked down the main street simply because she was still a new face. If Jayde ever felt unsure about their safety, she needed only to tune her ears to the gossip around town and they would tell her everything she should to know.
Jayde kept a close eye on the human beside her. A chill in the air made Nadya hold the cup of coffee in her hands a little tighter. Of course, Jayde also noticed the nip in the air, but it didn't affect her the same way as it did humans - a fact she had never given much consideration before. Just as Jayde pondered the etiquette of offering one’s coat, they approached a store that made Nadya’s expression brighten up like a Christmas tree.
A small, excited gasp escaped her lips as she grabbed Jayde’s arm to halt their pace. “Is that a bookstore?”
“Sure is,” Jayde confirmed with a broad grin. The little hole in the wall had been the precise reason she led them in this direction.
“Do you think we can go inside for a minute?” she asked hopefully.
“Lead the way.”
The local bookstore mostly sold used items - novels so old and loved that a lot of their covers had been taped and laminated in an effort to hold them together. It gave the interior a slightly musty smell that wasn’t too unpleasant for Jayde the more they explored. Literature in any form wasn’t typically something that held the wolf's interest for long, but she felt thoroughly content with following Nadya around. Especially after she put on her glasses. The simple image always gave Jayde heart palpitations no matter how many times she saw it.
It became pretty evident right away that they would be in the shop for a lot longer than a minute. Nadya seemed to want to give each section an equal amount of attention. The tips of her fingers must have touched the spine of every book on every shelf. Some garnered her attention enough to be pulled out and studied in closer inspection, while others only required an adorable head tilt to read the titles.
Bearing witness to her intricate ritual of picking out novels only fueled Jayde’s infatuation. She found herself inching closer and closer so that she would not miss a second of it. That’s when she noticed something.
Nadya was completely distracted by everything she absorbed, not noticing the werewolf shifting towards her. Or so Jayde thought.
Thump, thump, thump...
The human’s heart pumped at a steady pace to fuel the energy coursing through her veins, but then Jayde hovered just a few inches from her and got the urge to wrap her arm around Nadya’s lower back.
Thump, thump–thump, thump, thump–thump...
The scent of her nerves prickled at the rest of Jayde’s senses, making her hesitate. It wasn’t like she hadn't heard that stutter many times before. It wasn’t like Nadya didn’t make her heartbeat flutter in the same exact way. But after the night before – when things got a little too intimate before Nadya was ready – Jayde found that differentiating between making her excited and making her uncomfortable was slightly more difficult to gauge. Yes, Nadya had been the one to ask her to stay the night. They had woken up in each other’s arms without any doubts. Yet that uneven drumming in Nadya’s chest echoed in Jayde’s ears.
“Can I ask you something?”
Nadya tore her eyes away from the back of a book to look up at her. “Of course.”
“So, I’m pretty… physical,” Jayde stated.
There was a painfully long pause and then Nadya blinked. “Is that your question..?”
Realizing that her brain had just buffered, Jayde snapped back into focus. “Oh, uh, no. No, I mean that I want to touch you.” She sighed as soon as she heard herself. It seemed like any ability to properly communicate completely abandoned her. The way Nadya gazed so sweetly at her with those brown doe eyes of hers did not help the situation at all. “Shit, that sounded weird. I want to be… uh, closer… sometimes. More than sometimes. And I-I do want to touch you, it’s just… I don’t know exactly how.”
Nadya chewed on her bottom lip for a moment with a thoughtful furrow in her brow. “You want to have sex with me, is that what you’re saying?”
“No,” Jayde blurted out. “Well, yes, but that’s not what I’m talking –” That’s when she noticed a smirk slowly tugging at the corners of Nadya’s mouth. She’s screwing with me, Jayde thought as she felt embarrassment flush across her cheeks. I’m making a goddamn fool of myself. “Quit smiling at me,” Jayde complained with a chuckle. “I can’t stop messing up my sentences when you look at me like that.”
“You make it so easy sometimes,” Nadya teased with an affectionate shoulder bump. “It makes me feel better.”
“Okay.” Jayde laughed again. “Let me start over.”
“You have the floor.”
Jayde took a beat to get her thoughts in order, though it was so hard not to get lost in the soft, patient expression on her beloved human. “I know I make you nervous, but the line between good nervous and bad nervous gets blurred. I’m having a hard time telling the difference with you.”
Nadya’s eyes tracked all over her features curiously. “How do you know I’m nervous?”
That was an easy question to answer. “I can sense a lot, even the smallest changes. Like the way your heart beats. Or your breathing. Or your scent.” Focusing on those things now started to help her regain composure. “I’d say I look out for it, but the truth is, it’s something I’ve always noticed when it comes to you.”
Nadya stared at her silently for enough seconds that Jayde worried she had said the wrong thing again, but then the brunette’s body swayed towards her ever so slightly as she muttered, “That’s helpful.”
“It is when I know what I’m sensing. Which brings me to the point that I’ve been taking fucking forever to get to.” The two of them had been speaking in hushed tones while in the small store, but Jayde still glanced around for any potential witnesses to their private conversation. Relieved to find no one besides the older woman behind the counter, she continued. “Can you give me, like, a set of boundaries?”
“Like what?”
“Well…” She shifted anxiously on her feet. “I get the urge to grab your hand and hold you and kiss you a lot. I know that anything sexual isn’t very comfortable for you yet, but I don’t want you to have to endure something like my hand on your hip a certain way because you feel like you have to.”
Nadya’s expression became hurt. “You think I have to endure you?”
“No, I don’t think that,” Jayde quickly assured. “I just want us to go at your pace.”
Nadya sighed and returned the book in her hand back to the shelf. Then she plucked the coffee cup from Jayde’s hand and set it down next to hers with the books. “Can I be honest?”
Jayde nodded her on. “Preferably.”
“The line is blurred for you, but I’m still trying to figure out where the line for me even is. I have no idea what I’m doing, Jay. I just know that I want to be with you. So…” Nadya reached for her and their fingers laced together. “If you want to grab my hand, grab my hand. If you want to hold me…” After her thumb brushed over Jayde’s scarred knuckles, she brought her hand up and placed it on her waist, pulling herself closer. Jayde held her breath as her skin tingled all the way up arm. “Hold me. If you want to kiss me…”
Jayde was completely entranced by Nadya’s voice, how it adopted a gentle tone smooth enough to ensure that no one else besides her could hear, even if there were others around. The heat of the human’s breath beckoned her to lean in – invited her to bask in the girl's intoxicating presence. Once their lips touched, a sparking sensation raced throughout every nerve ending in Jayde’s body and she released a breathless gasp of relief. The hand Nadya still held in place at her side squeezed her hip to pull her even closer, while Jayde’s other hand came up to cup her cheek. She risked parting her lips to deepen the kiss for just a moment and was rewarded by a pleased hum reverberating in Nadya’s chest.
Before she could get too consumed by the sensations, Jayde pulled back to rest her forehead against her beloved human’s. Even doing something as simple as breathing with her felt incredible. It had the young werewolf convinced that she didn’t know a damn thing about love before this girl came around.
“If you’re not sure… I want you to try,” Nadya said.
“How about I ask first?”
“I want you to try,” Nadya repeated and leaned back, the color of her irises were as warm and soft as the rest of her. Jayde was utterly smitten. “If I don’t like something, I’ll tell you.”
Apprehension lingered at the back of her mind. “You’re sure you’re okay with that?”
A sweet smile brightened her face. “Don’t feel like you have to walk on eggshells around me, Jay. I trust you. I want you to do whatever you want, I just need some time to catch up to your level.”
Those words meant more to Jayde than she could ever express. She never wanted to break the trust Nadya had in her. Jayde tucked a strand of light brown hair behind her ear and caressed her cheek, enjoying the softness of her skin. Then she planted a gentle kiss on her forehead to show her how much she appreciated this talk. “Take all the time you need, Nadya,” she whispered.
Nadya gifted her a grateful peck. “I really like you.”
“Wow, you’re throwing big L words around,” Jayde teased.
“Shut up,” the human laughed, pushing her away playfully.
A smirk remained on Jayde’s face and she laughed with her, motioning to the bookshelf beside them. “So, how many of these are we taking back with us?”
“Just this one.” Nadya picked up the book she had a few minutes earlier, giving her an innocent look. When Jayde squinted suspiciously, she relented. “Okay, maybe a few others too. I’ve narrowed it down, at least.”
Jayde took the book out of her hands and prepared herself to bear the inevitable stack. She rolled her eyes, but couldn’t think of a more noble purpose for her supernatural strength. “I’ll just keep following you, then. Let me know what else I can carry.”
“God, where have you been all my life?” Nadya asked as she excitedly raced to another section.
