This piece, ‘Grounds of the Tenjin Shrine at Kameido’ is an original woodblock by Ando #Hiroshige (1797-1858). It inspired Claude Monet’s ‘Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies’ series. Pattern and Color

Pattern and color are important considerations when choosing a frame.  Frames can be used to emphasize existing pattern, make colors pop, and add texture and interest to simpler pieces.

For the painting pictured above, our client wanted to use framing as a way to play with color and movement.  To do this, we worked with her to select a canvas float frame made of tiger maple, stained light orange.  The stain brings one of the least dominant colors forward, and the figure of the wood extends the action of the paint drips - the frame has become part of the piece.  It was an inspired use of color and pattern - perfect for a painting filled with vibrant movement.

Go Bold: Our Merc 3.5 profile, the widest of our Mercury named profiles. This design comes from a section of a Degas frame that once reminded a Bark designer of a 1950s Mercury fender. Wednesday's Woodshop View: A custom walnut frame sits in our 2nd floor wood shop. After being joined, the four sides of the frame are encased in an adjustable, multi-corner clamp, which is then tightened and left on the table until the joints dry.
