I made Aziraphale’s waistcoat about two months ago and boy it was a journey

Rant about the process under cut!

First thing to do was pick a fabric. For the visible fabric on the front and collar, I knew I definitely wanted to use something piled. I also did not want to use a synthetic fabric, which would have been cheaper but miserable to wear. I settled on cotton velveteen which would be more comfortable, slightly cheaper and easier to work with than silk velvet, and generally less shiny than silk. I was able to order some beautiful cotton velveteen from someone local.

Unfortunately it was not even in the same ballpark as the color I needed. This was due to a combination of reasons including the lighting in the photos they had (they were online only and didn’t have a storefront I could walk into), piled fabric in general being nigh impossible to accurately photograph the color of, and probably also some variations between dye batches. This is why we buy swatches when we can, folks.

The fabric itself was absolutely lovely though. So. No biggie I’ll just dye this myself what could go wrong

The dark brown here is after the first dye; the scrap laying on top on the right is the original color; the beige coat underneath for color reference. Note that even the colors in this picture looked quite different from irl. I did dip a scrap in first to check the color, but because Dyeing Is Weird and also I made some mistakes the final dye did not end up the same. I can write several more paragraphs on why this probably happened. We’d be here for a while.

But maybe it’ll be fine right? The color’s not exact but not offensive, maybe I’ll just start sewing and it won’t bother me that much.

Here’s a bit of that process, where you can see the interior of the waistcoat with interlining and twill tape, following some 19th century construction techniques. Lots of tedious but relaxing hand sewing. (Also, real pockets!)

I chose broadcloth for the interlining rather than a more typical canvas, because I wanted a more soft and aged look rather than crisp and new.

(I made another mistake here using cotton twill tape straight off the roll, which shrunk later in the process. You can see this later in how the edges pucker a bit. Oops. Oh well.)

(I also have no other photos of this stage because I went into the hyperfocus zone and forgot about everything except the task in front of me)

Turns out I was not ok with the color. It bothered me a lot.

So I tried to bleach it a tad to lighten the color, but Bleaching Is Also Weird and doesn’t always give you back the same color but lighter.

I got back something extremely orange tones, which bothered me even more. Had a minor breakdown until reboot papped me and helped me talk through how to fix this.

This ended up going through another round of light bleaching, and two rounds of dyeing over with blue to cancel out the orange. Finally I got something I was happy with!

You can very clearly see the puckering here caused by the shrinking tape..thankfully a good steaming was able to get rid of the worst of it.

The color is also slightly uneven if you look very closely, because rounds of the dyeing/bleaching happened after it was sewn together rather than as fabric pieces. Oh well. I can chalk this up to an “aged” look.

Time to finish it off with some buttons and 19th century style hand-worked buttonholes! The buttons aren’t accurate but I just went for ones that were the right size and vibes.

Last step was to add the wear around the buttons, hem, and collar. I’m sure there’s some faster way to do this, but I did it with a pair of eyebrow tweezers to pluck out the pile and a bit of sandpaper to finish off.

And that’s it! For the waistcoat at least. I also made the outer coat, the bow tie, and the blue shirt because I couldn’t find one for purchase that fit me. I still need to make other things. But that’s for another time.

happy friday! here is a wonderful set by @myshunosun, perfect for any sim but especially those with an affinity for music.

i learned a lot converting this set, from tackling my demons (slots), to adjusting the footprint, to finally adding shadows, to figuring out how to make the guitar amp invisible. speaking of the guitar, it’s cloned from crispsandkerosene’s acoustic guitar, which requires argon’s hack. the storage unit is cloned from thimblesims’ dawn living storage unit c. it has 8 slots, so i just duplicated the top middle slot to make up for it. i found if you want to add two stack of LPs on the bottom of the storage unit like shown above, its best to turn them around. it won’t flicker when moving the camera that way for some reason. that should be it, enjoy! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

UPDATE 9/14/22: fixed meshes so you don’t have to find the sweet spot lmao. also fixed the mesh texture on the plant to be black (bc i had pink twice and barely found out myself). also resized the record player by like 1cm shh.

HI! I recently downloaded your Mysteric Non Default eyes and they are not working properly. I did change the secondary index so they would display after all of my other non default eyes (I have a lotttttt of CC eyes, heh) and they look just like the Maxis Eyes. I tried on a Spellcaster, a regular Sim, and a Vampire. Am I doing something wrong or were they only meant for certain Sim types...? Thanks!

What sir-curse-a-lot means is a faux round swatch, it's still flat but the swatch is knitted from the same direction each row as if it was done in the round. Cast on 10 more stitches than your gauge calls for so you have 5 stitches on each side for a boarder and at the end of the row don't turn but loosely carry the yarn across the back and then repeat until you have the number of rows you need.

I did that the for the second swatch actually! The problem was with my initial measurements. Didn’t measure my head right and I didn’t take negative ease into account at all... oops.

Tbf, I’ve only ever made loom knit hats and knit items that didn’t require that exact of a gauge before now lol.

I love coming home after teaching and looking at the demonstrations. This week in Fashion Design Basic Core at Parsons, my class in week 5 has had three live model classes, create fabric mood boards, and sketches out their capsule collections as flat sketches. This week they’re taking their swatches, sletches and boards and are bringing it all to LIFE in full color! For this demonstration I used #inktense blocks as #gouache for #fashionillustration @derwentartofficial because it’s so portable and the colors are CRAZY- RICH, vibrant, gorgeous quality. These were sketched on #sketchbook paper with a ball-tip pen that wasn’t waterproof (oops). Always make sure you’re using waterproof pens when painting unless you WANT the look of bleeding ink! #inktober the colors these models are wearing are exact matches to the swatches one of the students had with her, and the designs include details that the students were asking about such as gather- into-gathers, shading gathers, light source, shadow, adding skin tone and accessories, and other things. We also added a frame to the page to “set it off”. There is nothing , and I mean NOTHING as fun as bringing brand new designs and figures to life on page in the moment..... when you started with just blank whiteness........ my Eveningwear class is just five one-hour modules including detail, silhouette, light and shadow and dramatic textures (special fabrics).... PLUS direction and tips on how to DESIGN. By riffing off on an idea and how to let it feed and grow into many other related ideas , evolving and expanding. That requires work and isn going to happen all the time.But when you can initiate an infinite off a fucking grab, at any percent, against any character, it bullshit and is in no way a reflection of either player skill.There a reason MK is banned in Brawl, because he basically a "pick this character to win" option, and with Melee IC the grab button becomes "press this button to win".UrynSM 36 points submitted 28 days agoIt not a game! It a setting. There are lots of books and the universe is so unlike anything else out there. Completely worth getting into.I won lie: it dark and grim, but the glimmers of hope in there, you can use them to get yourself up. I think an issue with modern relationships is that people are rather disposable. And I not talking about disposing people for large issues such as abuse, infidelity, dishonesty, etc. What I mean is that a lot of people will have "back ups" just in case this one doesn work out or just cheat like it nothing. Ooh that a nice shade! I not tried that ysl product though, so I just going off what the photo looks like, but basically I don think there is a dupe in the eh line for this exact shade. The ysl shade is 천안출장마사지 like a muted mauve shade, but all the shades here are probably a step brighter / darker / more intense. I suppose, out of the shades, you can consider Romance Rose. It can affect any person who is in some way self conscious about themselves. You have three options. Be angry at them, and get nowhere. Went to school in Indiana. While I agree with the premise, I disagree with the solution. In my mind the answer is not to require schools to teach something, but to privatize schools and let the market decide what should be taught and what shouldn't. My conclusion is that the only shade I couldn find a workable dupe for in your collection is shade 11, but you still might have something in your collection that I just don know about. I have done all this from online swatches as I don own any of the shadows mentioned and I therefore cannot guarantee how well they match, however this may give you an idea of what you would be spending your money on. I suggest gathering all of these palettes together and making a look or two with your dupes. When things were "not right" with my body the next morning, I confronted him about it. I figured the first time was an "oops", and asked him not to do it again. 3 4 weeks later, he would do it again, trying to bounce it back to me: "You moved", "you were into it", "I had no idea you took ambience every day," etc. The bad news is that if I 천안출장마사지 were less of a Linux nerd, I would never have gotten this far. Even with SteamPlay and Proton and Lutris in the mix, it takes a lot of tinkering to get there. Wine dependencies, getting esync set up in config files and DXVK installed and working right. I'm in the same exact predicament. I've used Sensodyne faithfully for years for my sensitive teeth with great results. I've been struggling to find a replacement. Take a look through the links provided and see if you can identify conferences for which you could apply (even if you aren't going to) and try writing an abstract in your field for attending one of these. Studies. The first is the 100 day VIVA, the second is the Confirmation Viva, the third is the 2nd year presentation and the final one is the 3rd year poster.

Reflection

How many rules am I breaking if I’m posting a 2017 recap on the second week of the 2018? Oops. Better late than never, right?

2017 was a significant year for me. As a new graduate, I opted for the unconventional route of pursuing blogging full-time. This decision was very risky because stability is uncertain. I know most people work a 9-to-5 job for many years before becoming a blogger. I knew that I did not want to be an actuary- I loathed the thought of working in the financial world. I was fortunate enough to discover this niche as an undergrad.

Per usual, my year was comprised of traveling around the world. Many of the destinations I explored were firsts for me, or places I haven’t visited in a while. I also frequented Japan and Korea more than 5 times each!

2017 challenged me to capture more travel photos. I used to shoot everything on my phone, but now I started to bring my camera around. I was also fortunate enough to work with tourism boards for the first time. Geneva Tourism Board marked the beginning of my travel campaigns. A month later, I adventured through the streets of Tokyo and forests of Yamagata with Tokyo Metropolitan Government. I connected with nature with Tourism Santa Fe. The year ended with a festive trip with Experience Sonoma to view holiday lights.

Shopping

I purchased more things that I would like to admit. I don’t even want to calculate the exact amount I spent. The most notable addition is probably my Hermes special order!

Blogging

I strived to establish myself as a professional blogger. By creating better content, I was able to add more clients to my portfolio. Some important campaigns include, but not limited to: Google, Dyson, Walmart, Swatch, Alexis Bittar, Sugar Bear Hair, and Revolve!

As with every other year, I over-ate, over-indulged, and now I’m overweight. Just kidding about the last part. Moving into the new year, my resolution isn’t to lose weight. Rather, I would like to maintain my current weight and eat healthier. If weight loss comes with eating healthier, then all the better!

To summarize, thank you for following along my journey. I am so grateful for everyone’s support. As I review the previous year, I am confident that I made the right decision.
