the ask-and-response format of Wedding Song and Chant. how in Wedding Song it's Eurydice asking Orpheus how they will deal with the difficulties of living in a world that's collapsing ("Lover, tell me...") and Orpheus fearlessly claiming his love and talent will solve every issue she has ("Lover, when I sing my song..."). how in Chant, we hear the same exact format and melody, but it's corrupted. Persephone is asking Hades why he did all the horrible things making everyone suffer ("It ain't right and it ain't natural") and Hades is responding that it was all because of love ("Lover, you were gone so long..."). Persephone doesn't call him "Lover" until the final verse, in which she once again questions his actions with "Lover, what have you become?" and THAT'S what sets him off to run from her, the usage of the phrase not to adore, but to blame. and still he calls her "Lover" in his response. oh I love this show so much

just finished hadestown and i think ill never touch anything greek mythology or a musical ever again. or you know what maybe just stories in general. or better ill never toch anything again. or maybe ill just kill myself actually

Another hot take but Epic III change in West End (and now on Broadway) is such a damn bummer. It’s so much worse than Broadway original verse. Like we fools were complaining about nytw to Broadway Epic III pipeline but it at least didn’t feel dumb and awkward.

Like, Anaïs, my love, I beg of you, leave the Epics alone, fix one thing 99% of Hadestown fans ask of you - Persephone Chant 2 verse. Like Broadway Epic worked, West End Epic 3 last verse is so awkward it’s disturbing and the show objectively looses in total without Persephone’s perspective. Just do one change people want from you and leave the show as it is.
