fun fact: the only other character that i can find to ever even be descibed as having red-brown hair in the main series is rowan, one of the spearwives who accompanied mance on his mission to winterfell. (described by theon, who had psychological reasons not to think of any hair-resemblance to robb and co.)

tl;dr i suppose my point here is that auburn hair in the real world may be a term thrown around wildly as a fancier way of saying red hair, but grrm and his westerosi creations seem to keep to a much more specific (true) definition. not just specific, almost entirely unique to a certain family, a weird mutation passing down their line somewhat inexplicably, like the magic platinum hair of the targaryens. (ned stark's 4 tully-haired kids being sorta like alicent hightower's 4 targ-haired kids where nobody can really explain why it was so dominant.) except it's actually more unique to the tullys than either black hair to the baratheons or silver hair to the targaryens, with the velaryons also having valyrian hair as well as some people in the essosi free cities too. which i guess makes rowan the wildling the equalivent of an unknown dragonseed or a lysene woman who could pass as a targ, and regular brown-haired hoster and sweetrobin the equivalent of regular blonde-haired alysanne and alyssa targaryen. so the next time someone calls the tullys lame or whatever, just remember that in-universe they're actually more special than the dragonriders, at least hairwise.

just for fun i was considering what arya’s story might look like in twow by chapter. my current estimate for her count is 6......ish. more arya twow chapters have been referenced over the years than any other character [x] not just by grrm but by jonathan roberts too. he received “a set” of arya chapters from twow way back in 2012 to create the map of braavos. grrm has mentioned writing arya material several times since. i think she could very possibly get more than 6 but i doubt any less. arya has the 3rd most chapters of any character in the entire series. she will get a decent amount of chapters in this book. quite frankly, 6 is a modest estimate, but i think its a decent place to start speculation. for reference her current pov count is: agot - 5, acok - 10, asos - 13 (the most in the book), affc - 3, adwd - 2 for a total of 33 published chapters

couple other notes i think are relevant to arya’s upcoming plot:

mercy was originally supposed to be arya’s first chapter after the five year gap [x] which was intended as a means of skipping over the training arcs of characters like arya and bran. so the appearance of mercy should signify that this phase of her arc is wrapping up. its time for serious plot development. if grrm ever wants to finish this series in 7 books than these characters have got to move in the direction of the endgame.

grrm has confirmed an arya/gendry reunion and that nymeria’s wolf pack will be utilized. both of these confirmations strongly suggest a return to the riverlands for arya. i think by the end of twow. grrm has also been adamant over the years that lady stoneheart will play an important role. if arya’s returning to the riverlands i think a meeting between her and stoneheart is likely (necessary?) all the more so considering how crucial arya was to catelyn being resurrected in the first place. it really fits his to go forward you must go back theme too. theres a lot of unresolved threads for arya in that location. but first she’s got to settle thing in braavos. so we begin there:

1. [mercy] arya, as mercy, awakens from a wolf dream where "a tree” (bran) is watching and calling out of her true name. this chapter focuses on arya’s apprenticeship with the mummers. she is honing her acting/lying ability by playing different roles. it’s implied arya also has a mission to complete while there. she carries on her possession 1. a deadly weapon 2. a key 3. coins - none of which belong to mercy. arya was always supposed to kill one of the envoy’s guards. when she sees raff the sweetling she thinks “the gods have given me a gift” she lures raff away under the pretense of sex and kills him; effectively framing him for mercy’s murder. this will “make trouble” (sabotage) for harys swyft and the sealord. arya acknowledges this fact before running back to the playhouse to finish out the last night of her apprenticeship.

2. [unknown alias] i think her next chapter will be an apprenticeship with bellegere otherys as many have speculated over the years. bellegere has appeared several times in arya’s storyline so it has to lead somewhere. the courtesan was last seen escorting harys swyft to 'the bloody hand’ at the gate. this will give arya an opportunity to learn how to craft a charming, sophisticated persona in a more affluent environment. in the company of this very beautiful and influential woman arya will become a maiden. we will see the fallout for arya’s frame up job too. harys swyft will be denied by the bank sealing the lannisters downfall. the sealord choosing will heat up (tbh im still not sure where this subplot is going)

3. [unknown alias] i think we could see one last apprenticeship in the iron bank itself. another widely speculated point is jeyne p. arriving in braavos (due to jon being dead) with justin massey who is going there to collect stannis baratheon’s coin from the iron bank. (and none for harys swyft!) he intends to hire sellswords for the campaign in the north (set up in theon i twow) i think arya gets inside the sealord’s palace (with a new sealord?) - a likely host for a noble guest. whether as part the ongoing mission with the FM or by her own desire to get close to “arya stark” arya learns of many things happening in westeros (jon’s murder, her own stolen identity by her enemies, the abuse jeyne suffered, and generally how poorly things are going in the north - her home) which will motivate her to leave.

4. [arya?] we gotta see the uncloaking at some point and theres no doubt in my mind it will coincide with arya reclaiming her identity. grrm laid it on thick with the symbolism. this event is to celebrate the anniversary of braavos revealing itself to the world after over a century of hiding. the braavosi party for ten days until on the last at midnight when all the revelers remove their masks; identity, revelations, new beginnings, ect. arya extracts herself from the FM, retrieves needle and leaves braavos.

(a lot will go down with arya and the faceless men. theres lore to be revealed that will have a big effect on the plot. i am not convinced that the FM are a true neutral entity. they have an agenda. that will also be explored in samwell’s storyline since he was, unknowingly, introduced to a faceless man at the citadel. so arya doesn’t have to bear that alone. i think 4 chapters is enough to wrap up braavos for her.)

5. [arya] arya returns to westeros. i think she might be shooting for the north, as usual, probably with the intention of killing some mutineers and/or boltons but will get diverted to the riverlands where she will land at the saltpans. she ends up at the inn at the crossroads again where gendry has been conveniently posted. this is the last place arya was seen in westeros and has become a refugee for orphans. gendry is a follower of lady stoneheart so he will inform arya of what has happened to her mother. this will derail whatever arya had planned. she will go to lady stoneheart.

6. [arya] riverrun will probably be under the brotherhood’s control after trw 2.0. its one of the places arya tried to reach, her mothers childhood home, and the place where robb was crowned. it feels like an appropriate place for the meeting of lady stoneheart and arya. i expect this will be a very cathartic event. stoneheart’s role ends here and arya assumes leadership of the brotherhood. arya is a potential heir to robb so his former allies in the riverlands and their current allegiance is an interesting thing to consider. and, of course, theres nymeria. i think arya will be reunited with her wolf by the end of this book.

i will admit this is VERY simplistic (and VERY self indulgent) but i do think these are some plot points for arya that could appear in twow. this is definitely a very direct line between arya in essos and westeros which may not play out so neatly in the actual book. i know there are a lot of theories about her going to another one of the free cities. i’ve always thought there was a real possibility that arya would return to westeros in the company of dany too. if arya does go on a major detour i could see a couple more chapters for her as well as her appearing in other povs. lately, grrm has been saying that a lot of storylines are intersecting, but we won’t know anything for certain until the book is published.

ASOS Intros: Allistor Mira Raymond/ Allistor King/ Raven King

Allistor is from ASOS! -Allistor uses she/meow/moon pronouns -She is a tiefling and sorcerer/fighter -Allistor is affiliated with Selene, lives in the altena sector, and actively participates in the rebellion started by the citizens of Selene -Meow is pan and a demigirl -Moons spiritual connections are the shade of red that her eyes are, Crow, cats, and ravens -Meows got many a things going on in meows brain, including but not limited to, ADHD, Autism, Severe Depression, Severe GAD, and PTSD

The rundown of meows backstory is that she was born to Xavier and Vera Raymond due to Vera's moms forcing them to bind fates(at the threat of Xaviers entire family being killed) and have a kid. That kid was Allistor. Vera abused her, and believed meow was the cause of her problems. Xavier was not able to be around to keep Allistor safe, because he had to work to support himself and Allistor because Vera wouldn't. When Allistor had just turned 6, Vera sold moon off to some mind flayers, instructing them to kill her. They didn't and instead erased her memory and discarding meow in an alleyway, where she was found by more people paid by Vera to kill her. They left meow within an inch of death, but a young girl named Rowan(she/her) found and healed Allistor. Rowan and Allistor ended up sticking together, since neither of them had a home to go back to, and became the bestest of friends. Allistor also developed a small teensy little crush on Rowan. Woopsie! The two of them met Mix(they/them), and they joined the little group, making them a trio! Until one fateful day, Allistor had her first outburst. Rowan tried to help, though she didn't really know what to do or what exactly was happening and ended up being killed by it. Mix wasn't there when it happened, and once Allistor had the energy to get up, meow ran as far away from the body as meow could. Allistor and Rowan were 11 at this point, Mix was 13. For the next three years Allistor was completely alone. She was miserable, and hardly had enough to eat. Not that meow really wanted to eat, since during these years she believed she deserved nothing but death. Meow over these few years attempted to poison moonself, but was taken to Selene's medic area by an unknown person. Afterwards though, things started to look up, 1 year and a half in, meow found a cat, and named it Ember. She was a little bit happier then, but after a year, Hunters took the cat and killed it, leaving it in front of the area Allistor was sleeping in as bait. Little did they know, they sparked another type of outburst, an anger outburst. They were killed by the outburst in a quite gruesome way, and Allistor left the area, with the new belief that meow was a bad omen.

On the third year meow was no longer at her worst, but she was still in pretty bad shape, the first two years having left meow weak. Near the end of the third year, she was visited by her spiritual guardian, who gave her a little talk about how Rowan wouldn’t want moon to live her life like this, and also that Rowan didn't blame Allistor for what happened. This inspired Allistor to try to live a better and happier life, and start to recover from what happened to Rowan. The day after she was trapped and tortured by guards until Beatrix came along and killed them and took Allistor into Selene with her. Beatrix became one of Allistor’s caretakers after that. Once Allistor was out of the medics area she was initiated into Selene by the leader at the time, Meteor. She took on the Oath of Union and the Oath of Silence, and chose an alias for meowself, Raven, as well as learning the entrance spell to the underground city.

For the first 6 months she lived in Selene, she was mute, though she did have company in Beatrix and Beatrix’s other starling, Crow. He would talk to her every day for those six months, sometimes he told her about some interesting things, other times he would just ramble about his day. After he was done talking he would always ask her how she was doing or if there was something meow wanted to talk about to him. She never replied until one day she finally asked him "Why are you talking to me so much? I never answer so what's the point?" and he responded with "Well I mean you responded now. But if you're wondering why i kept on talking to you its cause its nice to have someone to talk to, and I also didn't want you to be lonely, cause that's no fun" and from there on out they considered each other siblings. After spending the entirety of her first year in Selene only within Selene Allistor wanted to get out and see the overground kingdom again and also get revenge on the guards. Within the time Allistor was stuck underground in Selene out of fear of the guards, Beatrix and Meteor started training her to fight without magic so meow was trained well enough to be able to fend off guards and Hunters when she was with Crow. She would go out and taunt guards and/or lure them away from people they were hurting. Meow also had started her hobby of dancing back up with a new dancing partner, Apollo. They could only do one performance that year since they had to spend a lot of time coming up with dances and practicing them together.

The second year Allistor lived in Selene is when tragedy struck, 3 months into the year Vera hired people to lure out Crow so she could rip his wings off, all to send a message to Beatrix, who had recently killed the Queen’s right hand, Zane(though, Allistor was the one who actually killed him, Beatrix just took all of the blame). Even before that Beatrix had been a thorn in Vera’s side. Crow spent about 3 weeks recovering before starting to get back into the swing of things, Allistor made sure to be by his side the entire time he was recovering. He had changed, he was extremely rude to anyone he wasn’t close with and extremely distrusting of everyone. The second tragedy that had struck was Meteor’s death. She was the leader of Selene and had also became one of Allistor’s caretakers through supporting meow with her outbursts. One of Allistor’s newer caretakers, Oberon, was chosen to be the next leader by the population of Selene. On the bright side, she had performed a few more times with Apollo and they even won a competition together. Allistor had also been getting closer to Apollo, they had started spending more time together and Apollo even gave Allistor some of the flowers she grew, and a few particularly nice gems. Halfway through this year meow broke her mirror in a fit of self-hatred and shoved her hands in the shards of it, and she used moons own healing knowledge to heal them well enough to where they didn’t get infected, but they did leave many scars.

The third year Allistor spent in Selene was a lot less eventful than the others. Allistor and Apollo did multiple performances across Selene and they won an award for their routine. Crow and Allistor tried to escape Starfell Kingdom and failed due to their lack of planning.

The fourth year was also less eventful, Allistor and Crow had plans to try to escape Starfell Kingdom again that were a bit more in depth this time, maybe they will finally get out.

A few more notes

-People in Selene did not like Allistor, due to her outbursts multiple people in Selene were killed or mortally wounded. Most of them were scared of her, but some of them wanted meow gone, whether that be her dying or her just leaving.

-Allistor received lots of harassment from people in Selene

-Allistor has two types of outbursts, anger outbursts and stress/panic outbursts. Stress/panic outbursts use up less energy at once but last longer while anger outbursts drain energy quickly and can only last up to half the time a panic outburst can.

- After bad stress/panic outbursts, Allistor is usually left unable to walk. After an anger outburst(unless it was particularly short-lived) Allistor will pass out.

-Allistor has been missing for 12 years to her living family(other than Beatrix)

-Xavier has been searching for Allistor for those 12 years

-Allistor’s birthday is May 20th

-When Allistor has an outburst, the cracks burn. It wouldn't be too bad if there wasn't so many. The outbursts create a lot of heat cause of the amount of energy being pushed out of Allistor’s cracks.

-The cracks when they first appear are wounds, but after the outburst they become scars. So during an outburst, if its too intense or Allistor is trying really hard to repress it, bigger cracks will appear, and those ones are the cracks that tend to draw blood. The bigger cracks are embedded deeper into her body than the smaller and/or thinner ones, they also are the cracks are more painful even after they appear in other outbursts thanks to the burning. Usually the burning is why shes screaming and crying so much. Moon cant do a ton of moving, due to this and the loss of her energy. It also limits the amount meow can talk since she has lots of cracks on her face and neck.

-Allistor has a large tattoo of a raven on her back, given to meow by Crow

-Allistor instead of standing up for meowself when she was harassed just took it cause she believed moon deserved it.

-Allistor went on many rescue missions to help free tieflings

-Allistor has had many near death experiences, the current total is above 300

-Allistor is terrified of horses to the point where meow will not sleep during carriage rides unless she’s forced to.

-Allistor carries around many pretty rocks, she also swallows them regularly

-Allistor still carries around the map with all of meows and Crow’s plans to escape Selene

-Along with the plush bunny, Allistor carries around Rowan’s family crest and the pretty knife moon was given -Allistor collects daggers, 4 leaf clovers, small jars, shiny things(specifically silver, gold is Crow’s thing), pretty rocks, red things, and pest ears -Crow and Beatrix to this day don’t know about the mirror incident -Allistor has avoided looking at her reflection since the mirror incident(roughly two years)

Musaigen no Phantom World (2016)

Napanood: S1 – ep 1 -13

Bago ako magsimula mag-aral, magsusulat muna ko dahil sa dulo, habang pinapanood yung cliche fight scene, na-intriga ako sa alternatibong mundo ng palabas.

Interesante yung dulo kase nagrebelde yung isang phantom. Naging hybrid siya gawa ng experimentation na ginawa ng mga tao. Kung sa ibang palabas e katumbas to ng human instrumentality. Tulad ng Evangelion o Texhnolyze. Ang premise ng instrumentality ay pag-unawa sa hindi maunawaan. Ang goal ay laging lihim. Dito sa Musaigen, waring gustong unawain ang nature ng isang phantom. Balik;

Ang phantom ay matagal nang namumuhay sa mundo. Parte sila ng hindi nakikita ng tao pero nakikita ng ibang hayop tulad ng pusa o aso. Kaya kung minsan e tumatahol sa kawalan, hinuha na baka nga phantom iyon. Nagsimulang makita ang mga phantom ng may kumalat na virus. Nagmula ang virus bilang experimento ng Alayashiki Company. Hindi mapapanagot sa insidente ang nasabing kumpanya. Lalaki pa nga ang ospital na pag-aari ng kumpanya dahil sila ang pangunahing takbuhan ng mga pasyenteng magkaksakit na may kinalaman sa phantom. Parang mga Villar din e no. Ipapatag yung mga sakahan, mawawalan ng hanap buhay at tirahan ang mga pesante, tapos aalukin sila ng substandard na bahay. Kahit sa alternatibong mundo e siraulo talaga ang mga elite.

Yung first wave ng mga nakasagap ng virus, nag-iba ang utak. Bigla, nag-evolve ang paningin nila. Nakakita sila ng ibang dimensyon, nakakakita na sila ng mga phantom. Yung mga naging anak nila, yung iba e naging gifted, naka-develop ng super powers. Wala pang category yung mga super powers kaya inipon nalang yung mga bata sa isang private school for students with special powers. Doon iikot yung kwento ng serye, sa pang-araw-araw na buhay nung isang school club na ang layon e pumatay ng mga phantom. Slice of life din. Bakit papatayin ang mga phantom?

Nasabi sa last episode na walang karapatan sa batas ang mga phantom. Kaya ng hinack nung mga bata yung data base nung Alayashiki Company, nang malaman nila na may top secret ang mga to, na pinag-eexperimentuhan ang mga phantom, tulad ng grafting na waring dalawang magkaibang puno (ex: mango & orange) e pinagsasama sa iisang katawan, ginagawang ganon din yung phantom sa kapwa phantom o di kaya phantom sa genes ng tao. Ang resulta ay hybrid. Para daw yon higit na maunawaan ang nature ng mga phantom. Kung bakit kailangan unawain, at sa ganoong paraan; kung anong mapapala sa pag-unawa, at bakit kailangan top secret; kung bakit walang na-d-draft na batas para sa karapatan ng mga phantom – applicable din sa mga marginalized, sa mga taong maliliit sa mundo natin, hindi ba? Ito pa;

Sinabi sa mga naunang episode, pinapatay ang mga phantom, mali, ikinukulong (seal) dahil uncooperative. Ibig sabihin, yung ayaw makipamuhay ng payapa kasama ang mga tao. Yung ang layon nung school club, ang maging parak para sa mga phantom na ayaw umayon sa gawi ng mga tao. Ang ultimate goal pa din naman e peaceful coexistence. Pero hindi ba may peaceful coexistence na yung mga phantom at tao bago pa man magkaron ng virus breakout? Hindi ba kasalanan ng tao, particularly ng Alayashiki Company, kung ba’t nawala yung ganoong peaceful coexistence? E sila tong makulit na nangingielam ng buhay ng may buhay, tapos mabwi-bwiset kapag sila naman yung pinakielaman. Kahit sa alternatibong mundo, sira talaga ang tuktok ng sistema ng mga tao. Pero walang point ang sisihan habang nangyayari ang isang historical moment. Ang sisihan e para lang sa future, kapag pinag-aaralan na ang past historical moment, para hindi na maulit. So imbis na magsisihan, anong gagawin? Edi magtanong. Kwestyunin lahat.

Sa last episode, nagkaron ng intelektwal na kapasidad ang isa sa mga hybrid. Kung tutuusin e may consciousness naman talaga ang mga phantom, pero itong isang hybrid e nagkaron ng mataas na antas ng kamulatan. Na-realize niya na kung hindi siya lalabas sa top secret facility e dun nalang siya habang buhay. Bilang laboratory rat ng mga scientist. Sino ba naman ang gusto non, lalo na kung may consciousness ka. Kesyo aso nga e umiiyak kapag nakakulong ng matagal. Kalahating tao pa kaya? E wala naman siyang ginawang masama. Ikinulong siya dahil sa existensiya lang niya bilang phantom, na hinalo sa genes ng tao, bilang hybrid, bilang nilalang na hindi nauunawaan. Sa sobrang bwiset, nag rebelde siya. Hindi lang naman siya nauunawaan ng mga tao sa paligid niya, pero siya mismo e nauunawaan kung ano siya at ano ang kaya niya. Kaya lumaban hanggang sa makalabas ng facility, naghiganti dahil yun yung causality ng mga inapi. Walang mawawala sa kanya kundi ang pagkakakulong niya. Kung magpapatuloy yung kwento, magandang susunod doon e ang ethical question ng pakikisalamuha sa mga phantom, lalo na yung experimentation na ginagawa ng Alayashiki Company. Bakit hindi pa din sila napaparusahan? At ano ba yung gusto nilang makamit sa pag-unawa? Sa wari e gusto nilang ibalik sa dati ang lahat. Magkaron siguro ng vaccine na makakapag-devolve ng utak ng tao para hindi na uli makita ang extra dimension ng mga phantom. Bumalik na parang walang nangyari. Pero sa malamang, kung involve ang gobyerno, o di kaya ang naghaharing sistema ng kapitalismo doon sa globalisadong mundo, e malamang tulad ng evangelion at texhnolyze, gamitin ang mga hybrid bilang sandata panlaban, pang gyera.

Kaya kung masama yung hangarin nung hybrid na nag-rebelde sa Musaigen, dahil matapos makamit yung kalayaan niya e gusto naman niyang sakupin yung mundo (world domination) – similar sa babala ni JPR: what’s the point of freedom if the slaves of today will be the tyrants of tomorrow? – hindi ba kung gagamitin din lang ang mga hybrid bilang sandata o di kaya basta gamit lang tulad ng mga robot, ganoon din yung tatahaking landas ng mga lider ng bansa sa mundong yon? Gagamitin din yung mga hybrid para masakop nila ang mundo. Puro sakop at puro power. Kung masama yung layon ng rebelde kaya kailangan i-disappear, paano pa kaya yung maaring sikretong hangarin nung nag-eexperimento (at nagpo-pondo) sa mga human-phantom hybrid?

Ang role daw ng fiction e mag-present ng alternative reality sa panahon ng ang reyalidad e wala nang pinag-iba sa impyerno kung san may kultura ng impunity, naghahari ang power. Kung sisipatin ang cinema bilang shared dream, ang role siguro ng fiction sa cinema e para matuto uli tayong mangarap, sa sistemang pinapatay ang kung ano mang pinangarap mong buhay nung bata ka. Kaya ang puno’t dulong tanong sa mga ganitong pagninilay e maganda ba yung inihaing pangarap, yung alternatibong reyalidad na pinanaginips sa atin ng Musaigen? Ito ba yung mundo na gusto natin pangarapin? Na gusto natin puntahan kung sakaling magkaron tayo ng option na mamili between real world or fiction world? Ang sagot ko e hindi, dahil kung tutuusin e wala naman pinag-iba yung mundo nila sa mundo ngayon. Ganoon pa din naman ang siste. Nadagdagan lang ng super powers at phantom. Ang kabuntot na tanong, worth it ba panoorin? Oo basta ‘wag seryosohin. Dahil ang punto ng palabas e hindi yung istorya o ethical dilemma ng existence ng mga phantom, hindi din yung character development dahil kung tutuusin e upon introduction ng mga characters wala naman kulang sa kanila o kaya wala din naman silang inaasam na mas malaki pa (tulad ni Luffy). Like a good slice of life, panoorin lang yung pamumuhay nung mga character na wala naman masyadong problema bukod sa pang-araw-araw. Dahil ganon, hindi pronounced yung curve ng character arc nila, relatively flat from episode 1 to 13. Ang punto din e hindi yung character relation dahil, despite being a harem, wala naman major romantic conflict between characters. Walang team girl a vs team girl b. Papanoorin lang siya bilang ecchi. Pero walang teasing na magaganap o strip tease o mauudlot na foreplay. Siguro kung may body horror ito e body ecchi. Flex lang ng kyoani sa anatomy animation nila. Inexplore lang nila kung paano mapapalabas yung eros through poses and volume ng 2D drawings. Bilang nagd-drawing, eye candy yung animation ng katawan dito. So watch it as that, nothing more than a display of grasp on human anatomy in 2D drawings.

omg so glad you thought the same about twv!! I just finished and so many different parts of the last episode made me so mad, idk if they're trying for a season 6 (even after saying this is the finale) but I'm not going to listen anymore. if you have recs for similar podcasts i would rly love them

lol I’m glad some people enjoyed my incandescent rage. Like. Woof.

I’m so sorry you had to sit through that finale. And baiting a new show just. Doesn’t do anything for me. There are so many ways TWV fell short and didn’t follow through that there is absolutely no way that I believe another show by the same writers will do any better. So handshake through the screen, Anon; I am sharing and understanding your problem.

As for recommendations, I like horror podcasts, but I usually like cosmic horror and folk horror best—which is a slightly different flavor of horror usually? Also a lot of the horror that I like is in book form. But for podcast recs, You’ve probably heard all of the ones I like, but here are some ones that I did enjoy:

-The Silt Verses: folk horror. Only one season is currently out. You get a lot of religious trauma, evil capitalism, and mythology somewhere in between nielman and Old Gods of Appalachia. A lot of old gods and their religions have been banned by the government. Two disciples of one of these illegal gods, a river god, are traveling the river looking for evidence of their god’s miracles and existence. The god itself, like All of the gods in this world, is horrifying and requires human sacrifice, the two disciples are both serial killers; and the state-sanctioned gods and the police sent after these disciples are Even Worse.

-The Magnus Archives: Cosmic horror/horror tragedy. Everyone and their dog seems to have listened to this but yeah. I’ve listened to it at least 3 times through. Very very good at not answering every possible question but knowing what questions need answering and answering those. Favorite. Also, I enjoy that it is and was always intended to be a horror tragedy, but that one character became So Powerful in personality and beliefs that they changed the way the author wrote the end. And capitalism is evil.

-Old Gods of Appalachia: LOVE this one. Cosmic horror/folk horror anthology. Capitalism is Definitely Evil. Really, really good understanding of the people and culture it draws from—which makes it feel kind of like home. Lots of angry and powerful women, lots of nuance, fantastic environment, Yuri Lowenthal was there?

-Alice Isn’t Dead: Surreal horror/cosmic horror. Creepy Americana. A woman thinks her wife is dead and then starts to see her in the background on the news, and then becomes a truck driver for the company the wife worked for in order to search for her. A complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. Good at knowing which questions to answer. Capitalism is evil. Human beings are hard.

-Hello From the Hallowoods: This show is so /comforting/ despite the horrible things that happen in it that it’s almost strange to call it horror. But it still is. It’s just a very kind horror podcast. This is fantasy horror and cosmic horror. The world changed and began to end when a cosmic horror-type god (an Indescribable) who was then killed, introduced a black rain and black water that killed a lot of life and has altered the rest. The dead rarely stay dead; but they come back changed. There are Monsters in the poisoned world. And a lot of the monsters are just people. A lot of the human people are monsters in disguise. The generation that saw the black rain start is in late middle-age and the children were born into this world. There’s a Huge cast, pretty much every character is queer, pretty much every character is nuanced, and there’s So Much Religious Trauma. Also, capitalism is evil; most of North America (at LEAST) was run by a company whose goal is to have all humans become their ‘customers’ whose bodies are protected while their minds exist in a sort of shared-dream world that was heavily marketed even before the world ended. There’s a huge rotating cast (including undead romance, undead robots, demons trying to defect from Hell, a girl trying to rescue her disappeared girlfriend and her kidnapped-by-capitalism mom, an invisible man, a forest-based commune under attack by evolving frogs, and a sentient car). Everything is narrated by an Extremely Invested and extremely comforting Indescribable whose domain is Watching Everything.

-Welcome to Nightvale. Guys, the show has run longer than it should have. It ran into problems when it started to try to answer some of its many long-running questions that shouldn’t have been answered; and the answers were so much less compelling than the questions. It sort of ossified eventually. BUT. The first several years of this show? Were amazing. This is the Foundation of modern narrative podcasts, and the father of queer podcasts. It’s the reason this medium is so much more diverse than others. This is surreal horror/horror comedy. And the first several years give you an Incredible Environment, occasional real fear, and /The/ Narrator (you don’t GET Jon Sims or Nikigkik or even Doug Eiffel without Cecil Palmer! You just Don’t). I think everyone should listen to this show, at least all of the way through the Strex Corp arc. Capitalism is evil, community is everything.

Honorable Mentions go to:

-I am In Eskew: surreal horror/cosmic horror. Sometimes a person just ends up in this incredibly fucked-up city. This isn’t my favorite kind of horror. But. It was well-written, is a complete story, and it was interesting. It raised some questions that I thought were left too open-ended. But the main character’s arc was told so thoroughly and completely, that I’ll forgive it. The confusing and unfinished vibes are confused and unfinished and bigger-than-the-story like Neverwhere*. If Neverwhere was surreal horror about an environment/city/genius locus that wants to just completely break your mind. Capitalism is still evil.

-Wolf 359: Sci-fi horror/thriller. Starts off as an episodic sci-fi comedy with off notes. Becomes a horror-thriller. Not my favorite brand of horror; some of the plot gets a little convoluted for me; but I did really like the character work. Capitalism is still evil.

*Neverwhere is one of my favorite books ever though. So the vibe isn’t what I didn’t love. It’s just the genre

my sister was talking about wizard ghost book with me, and was like ‘I know there’s like 7 gay tragedies, but the most canon ones, the nice ones, (she was meaning wangxian and songxiao) both have the surviving person in the couple become the caretaker for the other one’s kid. And I really like that’

And she’s right. It’s a parallel I hadn’t noticed. You can’t not pay attention to LWJ raising WWX’s child while he’s dead. But Song Lan doesn’t just take the shattered fragments of his partner’s soul. He’s given (as if it’s the most natural thing to do) the shattered fragments of his partner’s kid’s soul too. And his stated goal is to safeguard both of them, take care of both of them, figure out a way to repair both of them get both of them back. He doesn’t have any promise he’s getting either of them; but he takes them both. He knew A-Qing for like 4 minutes before death, but that’s his kid now too.

Something About Hachi Koi (はち恋)

What I could gather from Hachi Koi or はち恋 is that it was a cancelled game/love simulator for the Nintendo DS as it was announced in 2008.

Additionally, I come to realize that this game has been acknowledged since 2012 on Tumblr by one of the main heroines, Kurumi.

Surprisingly, this was attempted by EA of all companies according to blog with a defunct link as the main plot is that a death god tells the protagonist that he's going to die by his next birthday and the only to stop it is to fall in love with one of the featured heroines.

As for the other company, NEURON AGE or NeuronAge, I don't have any concrete information on what they do towards the gaming market.

For its mechanics, it'll probably functions like a dating sim/love sim although has a "Touch Event". So think of games like FE: Fates or Nintendogs that feature this, hell you could think of Doki Doki Majo Shinpan! But with a DS game that'll potentially garner a niche audience, why did this game get cancelled? I haven't found the reason why, so I'm left in the dark with this one.

So, where does that leave this canceled project? It was later turned into a smartphone game for the iOS and Android that ran from October 1, 2012 to February 28, 2014. This also came with a new mechanic which are love points that occurred from outfits and dates plus using related topics to spark a conversation while also keeping the touch event.

The plot also seems to have changed to a potted plant that handed from a fortune teller as this plant can predict and advise Makoto Shirai's luck in romance.

His luck being with one of the eight heroines with some simplified summaries:

Akane Aso, the first childhood friend who's active, energetic, and friendly that's a member of the track and field club.

Hina Konishi, the second childhood friend who's shy, gentle, and soothing with a weak body yet strong will.

Kirishima Mirai, a strict committee chairperson with an old-fashioned personality who's trusted by everyone as the leader.

Kasugaoka Kurumi, a clumsy girl who's kind to everyone and quite popular in class.

Noa Saeki, an admirer of the MC that's innocent and bright while also being the hard worker.

Ayumi Ichinose, a mysterious girl who's quite modest and quiet at best.

Maria W Ryuzaki, the only daughter of the board president that has a naïve side yet not good expressing emotions well.

Sayaka Ayukawa, the sexy upperclassman that garnered the attention of the male students yet seems interested in the MC.

Now what I've noticed while looking into the characters are some of the design changes which are mainly Hina (Hair changed from brown to black with removed side buns), Kirishima (Blue hairband thined out and turned white with neck bow removed), Kurumi (Socks become folded near loafers with flower symbol removed), Maria (Outfit color turned from pink to brown that match's Sayaka's along with shoe color + shoe accessory removed) and Sayaka (Change of bangs and heels turned from pink to purple). Their original designs, initially for the DS, are on Game Watch for full viewing.

Sadly, there is no known archive of each of the heroines' outfits. (┳◡┳)

Lastly, their official website is still up and running after shutting down their maintenance and what I can tell you is that it was completely different if you applied the link on Wayback Machine as it was in those days where it was anticipated to be released by 2009 on the NDS. Although, this requires Flash...

By the end of it all, Hachi Koi was a cancelled DS game that still made its way to be released and played until the end. I like to thank certain bloggers who posted the image with Kurumi, without you, I'll probably never found out about this obscure game. Much love!!!╰(⸝⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝⸝)╯
