NEET PG 2023 postponement demand reaches court, here is why students have been protesting
NEET PG 2023 exam is less than a month away and aspirants have been protesting for the postponement of the exam. The issue for the postponement of the exam which is scheduled to be held on March 5, has also reached into the hands of courts right now. On February 14 the students filed a case in the Supreme Court.
Tumblr media
Dr Rohan Krishnan, National Chairman of Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) a non profit organisation that had been actively raising the voice of the NEET PG 2023 aspirants to the Health Ministry told CNBC-TV18.com that they will get a diary number tomorrow and get listing then the hearing can be expected within three to four days.
Meanwhile a petition was also filed in the High Court of Telangana by the students for the same. As per the website collegedekho quoting official sources from the Telangana High Court the latest update is that the High Court has asked the National Medical Commission to reconsider the exam date. NMC will decide in two weeks that will the exam get postponed or not. CNBC-TV18 could not confirm the information.
Notably a group of students on February 7 started a petition for the postponement of the exam on Change.org and so far more than 14,000 people have signed the petition.
Why are the students demanding the postponement?
NEET PG is the entrance exam that students need to pass to pursue their masters in medicine in India. To sit for the exam the students are required to possess an MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognised by the Indian Medical Council Act 1956. With that they are also required to have completed the one year mandatory internship.
Now NEET PG examination happens in March every year but in past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic that exam was conducted in later months. NEET PG 2021 exam happened in September while NEET PG 2022 happened in May.
This year the government decided to bring back the pre pandemic dates. With that the eligibility criteria for the one year mandatory internship was that the students should have completed the internship by March 31. The aspirants then protested to extend the date for completion of internship as because with March 31 date nearly half the students from the current batch of applicants would have been ineligible. The pandemic resulted in delays of the medical academic calendar over the last three years resulting in the internship completion time to be delayed.
In response to this on February 11, the National Board of Examination (NBE) that conducts the screening test for post-graduate medical courses extended the internship cut-off date to August 11, making 13,000 additional students from five states eligible for the 2023 examination.
Doctors' associations and aspirants, however, are urging the date of the exam to be postponed. The applicants have been demanding for the exam to be postponed by two to three months to close the gap between the result announcement and the counselling procedure.
“The entrance exam will happen in March and the counselling will happen in August. This means a five month gap between the exam and the counselling. The students will not be doing any job in these five months and can use this time to study for the examination and pursue their dreams,” said Krishnan. Read More On..

Overworked doctors, stressed students: How delay in NEET schedule every year is exacting a cost
With 1st-year postgraduate students joining workforce late, doctors are putting in extra hours. Meanwhile, undergrads preparing for exam are getting demotivated, say those from fraternity.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), a qualifying exam for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical students in India, has been thrown off schedule over the past few years in the wake of the Covid pandemic, resulting in overworked doctors and stressed students, say those part of the medical fraternity.
Tumblr media
Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET for undergraduates is traditionally scheduled to be held in the first week of May and NEET for postgraduates in the month of January.
But in 2020, while NEET-PG was held on time, NEET-UG got delayed to September.
In 2021, NEET-PG was delayed twice, from January to April, and then to September. The delay that year was also caused by a case in the Supreme Court over revising the income criteria to determine the Economically Weaker Section quota for NEET admissions. NEET-UG in 2021 was again held in September instead of May.
In 2022, the PG exam was held in May, while the UG exam was held in July.
As a result of the delays, the subsequent counselling (or admission process) has also been thrown off track.
For example, the last round of counselling for 1,311 seats for the NEET-PG exams held in May last year is still on. This means over a 1,000 medical seats for 2022 are still empty in colleges across India.
According to the usual schedule, counselling begins within two months of declaration of results. This has now been extended by four to six months, say students.
In 2022, over 18 lakh students had appeared for NEET-UG and over 2 lakh candidates appeared for the PG exam.
Since NEET is a highly competitive exam, delay in its schedule exacts a heavy cost from students and medical institutions, say doctors and experts.
“The delayed examination has led to huge stress in the current medical workforce. With first-year students (PG) coming in months after the scheduled dates, doctors have to put in twice the number of working hours,” Dr Manish (who only goes by his first name), a resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital, told ThePrint. India's shortage of doctors is a harsh reality
The National Medical Commission Bill has been heralded as a watershed moment that will significantly advance the state of medicine in India. National exit test latest news is the National Exit Test will be mandatory for students who graduated from MCI/NMC approved medical colleges abroad also.
Our nation falls well short of the WHO requirement of 1000 doctors per 1000 people. Only one of of India's eleven states adhere to the WHO standard, and no healthcare organisations do.
In addition to a severe doctor shortage, India's health care system is also struggling with ineffective human resources and subpar infrastructure. India has had a large number of fatalities over the past few years as a result of a lack of medical professionals, particularly doctors in government institutions.
Only 9.26 lakh doctors may be actively accessible for service, assuming 80% of the doctors registered with the Board of Governors/State Medical Councils/Medical Council are available. Since some doctors may retire, move into hospital management, or move abroad without having their names removed from the record, the correct data is never a match.
With over 1974 primary healthcare facilities operating without even a single doctor, the nation urgently needs at least 3000 doctors. With approximately 5000 surgeons needed, there is a significant shortage in community health facilities in rural areas.
In India, there are 15,700 basic health centres that only have one physician on staff. The predicted 600,000-doctor shortfall in India is expected to be resolved by 2022 if there is an increase in the number of beds available in hospitals.
Differences in the ratio between states
The WHO recommends one doctor for every 1000 inhabitants, although states like Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab, and Goa have more doctors than that. Despite this, the rural public health system lacks enough physicians. In the state of Tamilnadu, there are 4 doctors per 1000 residents. In Goa and Punjab, it is 1.3, 1.5 in Kerala and Karnataka, and 3 in Delhi.
The majority of doctors from these states are wary of migrating to areas like Bihar or UP where there is a dire need for medical professionals. There is only one doctor for every 8000 or more people in Jharkhand, and per 6000 or more people in Haryana. There is just 1 doctor for every 3000+ people in states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
According to a study that was published in the Indian Journal of Public Health, India will require 2.07 million more doctors by 2030 in order to reach the 1:1000 ratio. Our government has set aside just 1.3% of the GDP for this, compared to the global average of 6% for public healthcare. More people can wind up paying high prices in private hospitals as a result of the lack of government doctors.
Are we capable of managing the COVID-19 crisis?
The first step in the fight against coronavirus is to maintain the ratio of doctors to the 1.36 billion people in the world's population. Addressing the imbalance between supply and demand for healthcare infrastructure is urgently needed. In order to stop the infection from spreading, most hospitals have strict shift policies for their medical staff. Nearly every other day, new reports surface of doctors quarantining themselves after getting the illness.
To address this unusual scenario, all states must comply with the fundamental healthcare criteria, including having enough doctors, nurses, and personal protective equipment (PPEs).
The national exit exam for mbbs latest news is the NEXT, or National Exit Test, is scheduled to go into effect in December of 2023 at the earliest. It will be used instead of the NEET PG and FMGE tests for graduate school admissions. In order to learn more about NEXT for MBBS, read on.

NEET PG 2023: Madhya Pradesh HC Grants Interim Relief to MBBS Students
The principal bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur has granted interim relief to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students by allowing them to register online for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2023 despite not fulfilling the eligibility criteria. The students had moved the HC over the eligibility criteria of completing the internship before NEET PG registration.
Tumblr media
About 1,500 MBBS students from the 2017 batch of MP Medical Science University are worried as their internship is going to complete on July 25, while the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has only extended the internship deadline for NEET PG registration only till June 30, 2023.
“MBBS students of MP who have been declared ineligible as their 1-year internship is ending on 25 July 2023, around a month later than the cut-off date, will now be able to at least fill their forms,” Advocate Aditya Sanghi, who appeared on behalf of MBBS students, said.
Advocate Sanghi further stated that as the internship began on July 25, 2022, it will end after the completion of one year. The advocate further stressed that one year of the MBBS candidate would have been wasted for being denied Pre-postgraduate examination eligibility due to non-completion of the internship period.
The MP High Court granted interim relief to the petitioners allowing them to fill up the forms by January 27, 2023. Meanwhile, the cut-off date for submitting the online application form is January 27, 2023.
The National Board of Examinations (NBE) earlier declared that the NEET 2023 will be held on March 5 this year and the results for the same will be declared on March 31, 2023.
Earlier this month, the Madhya Pradesh Medical University in Jabalpur had written a letter to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, requesting to extend the cut-off date for NEET PG 2023.

Study Abroad
The number of Indian students going to US and UK has surpassed the number of Chinese. Some experts believe that the reason for this could be because of COVID-19 among others. “When compared to pre-pandemic levels, the number of student visas granted to Chinese citizens in the first half of 2022 decreased by more than 50 per cent. Many aspiring Chinese students have had to reevaluate their plans to pursue higher education in the US and UK due to pandemic-related visa,”said Piyush Kumar, Regional Director (South Asia and Mauritius), IDP Education.

The benefits of studying abroad are almost endless.
In comparison, Abroad countries without entrance exams are more popular with Indian students who are seeking an MBBS abroad . Overseas MBBS education quality is much better than in India! Hence, it is always recommended to opt-in MBBS in abroad option to grab a better opportunity.
The primary concern for thousands of Indian medical students each year is being accepted into a reputable medical institution for further study. Few students are successful in passing the entrance exams for government universities, while others continue to look into private universities as options. The majority of students are unable to pay the high donations that private universities request. In these situations, foreign medical universities step in to save Indian medical students. While this is undoubtedly not the case in Indian universities, many universities worldwide offer affordable MBBS and other medical programmes.
Indian students can find a one-stop solution to all of their problems and worries by pursuing an MBBS abroad. Many nations that are regarded as the best for MBBS are renowned for offering not only the most affordable options but also the highest calibre education. The pursuit of an MBBS abroad also presents new opportunities in the wider world.
These days, a lot of nations provide affordable, high-quality medical education. Students from many nations, including Bangladesh, China, Nepal, and India, are eager to pursue MBBS degrees abroad. The top picks include a number of nations, including Germany, Russia, and the Ukraine. The medical schools in Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, and other countries adhere to a renowned international curriculum. Universities in these nations have received the stamp of approval from important agencies like the WHO and are registered with the National Medical Council (NMC), formerly the Medical Council of India (NMC/MCI).
Students now consider the quality of instruction offered in medical colleges abroad in addition to cost when seeking a medical education. As a result, these nations have greatly increased in popularity. Admission to the MBBS programme at foreign medical universities is a very straightforward and hassle-free process. There is no requirement to pass any entrance exams, such as the TOEFL or IELTS, in such places.
How can I practise in India? is among the top queries on students' minds after completing their MBBS abroad. The students must complete three additional steps after earning their MBBS abroad in order to practise medicine in India.
The medical students can take the NEET for PG (Entrance test for PG leading to MD/MS) after completing the aforementioned procedure. A student may apply for the PG programme in India after completing the aforementioned steps after earning their MBBS abroad.
Benefits of Studying MBBS Abroad in 2022–2023:
MBBS at a Reasonable Price—If you decide to pursue your MBBS degree abroad, you will have the opportunity to do so at some of the world's best medical schools for a very small tuition fee.
Top medical schools abroad, including those in Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, etc., do not require you to pay astronomical sums as donations or capitation fees, in contrast to private medical schools in India.
No Entrance Exam Is Needed To Apply- Indian students only need to earn a minimum of 50% in their 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and pass the NEET UG to be eligible to study medicine abroad. IELTS and TOEFL entrance exams are not necessary.
Extremely Low Cost of Living: The student's lifestyle has a big impact on this factor. The majority of foreign nations that offer MBBS abroad are from Europe, where living expenses are incredibly low. In Russia, the average monthly cost of living, including all overhead costs, ranges from 100 to 150 US dollars (69.31 Indian rupees).
The best world-class infrastructure is provided by international medical universities, who also provide the newest technology.
Students will have the chance to interact with students from various nations, ethnic groups, and backgrounds at the top medical universities abroad, giving them a fantastic international exposure opportunity. All of the students trying to acclimate to a new nation will find this exposure to be of great assistance.
Medical universities abroad that use the English language as their medium of instruction offer English-taught programmes. To study MBBS abroad, students are not required to learn the native tongue of the destination nation. The students, however, benefit from it and it helps with their overall development.
All international students attending medical universities abroad have access to cosy and comfortable hostel accommodations. The majority of medical universities abroad offer Indian food, which will please Indian students.
One of the best options for Indian medical aspirants to see their dreams come true is to pursue an MBBS abroad.
