#needed NICO'S BRAVERY to own their own sexuality

No, actually, I’ll not just be generally vaguely upset about the framework that pisses me off, I will also be specifically pissed off about the way he’s trying to pat himself on the back and rewrite history.
So having a gay character be brave by coming out and that bravery be an inspiration to other queer characters so they can be brave and come out too is something that comes off poor on its own already - because of the shallow framework that our existence alone is already oh-so brave of us and that others wouldn’t have dared come out if not for Major Queer Character who did it first.
But there is something particularly twisted and nasty about Riordan using this for Nico di Angelo, actually.
Because Nico di Angelo didn’t come out.
Nico di Angelo didn’t get to be brave or inspirational.
Nico di Angelo was forced out of the closet.
Nico di Angelo was outed against his will, in front of others.
Eros forced Nico to come out in front of Jason.
And, quite frankly, the way it was handled further was just as poor. To make this repressed teen from the 1930s, who up until mere days ago was dealing with severe internalized homophobia and couldn’t even admit his own feelings to himself, confess his crush in public, in the middle of camp...
Both of these events really just showed that Riordan is a straight man who doesn’t know this, and didn’t do his research beforehand.
And people just love giving Riordan the benefit of the doubt. Love giving him a pass and clapping him on the shoulder for the inclusion and for trying. And you know what! Yeah, I do love that he includes the gays. I do not think he should get excused for handling representation like shit though.
And this? This is in his newest book? You should think authors grow. Best selling authors should do more research. Get consultants. Stuff like that.
Instead, we’re going back and rewriting history. That forced coming out? Now a moment of bravery and inspiration for others!! Look how great and amazing that is!
Nico di Angelo didn’t get to choose that he was ready to come out, it wasn’t a moment of bravery. Not the kind of bravery that it takes when you are ready to face your personal truth and willingly take the step to own it. It was a moment of fear and desperation. And it was the bravery to face that fear and desperation.
And it really makes me sick to now learn that we’re looking back at it and pretending otherwise, in-universe.

Hello! so for my first post, I'll recommend some books, so y'all can have a closer look at some fandoms I'll post about! enjoy!!
1.
Tumblr media
Harry Potter By J.K. Rowling is definitely an interesting, well-written series! there are 7 books however, and the books get bigger as the series progresses. It's sometimes difficult to know the exact order, so I'll list it below:
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Although the movies are great, they don't include all the amazing details, as with all movies. A short summary:
Harry Potter, a young boy who’s being constantly abused by his uncle Vernon and aunt Petunia, gets a peculiar letter from the magical school of Hogwarts, where he spends most of his time, becoming his home.
Quotes:
“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." ― Albus Dumbledore
“You’re just as sane as I am" - Luna Lovegood
“Mischief managed" - Fred and George Weasley
It is Important to know that j*r is a huge transphobe, along with other things, and is currently being erased by the fandom itself.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, along with the other series by Rick Riordan, is a definite must-read. With each book, you can really notice the character developments and a lot more! There is loads of representation in this one, with lgbtqia+ characters, black characters, Muslim characters and more. It's very action-packed and addicting, sucking you into the magnificent world of Half-Bloods and Demigods within the first page. The first series consists of 5 books, in the following order:
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse
Percy Jackson and the Battle of The Labyrinth
Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian
THE MOVIES ARE TRASH SO I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND WATCHING THEM BEFORE READING THE BOOKS!!! There were many changes and the movies aren't nearly as good as the books. A short summary:
Percy Jackson, a 12 year-old who lives with his mother, Sally, and step-father, Gabe, attends the private boarding school Yancy Academy. While on a school trip, his teacher, Mrs. Dodds, turns into a fury and attacks him. This, in turn, triggers a series of other problems and adventures.
Quotes:
“If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.” - Percy Jackson
“With great power, comes great need to nap. Wake me up later." - Nico Di Angelo
“Even strength has to bow down to wisdom sometimes." - Annabeth Chase

Tumblr media
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is one of my most recommended series! With everything it deals with, from the Capitol to the districts to the champions, the books are amazing!
Order:
The Hunger Games
Catching Fire
Mockingjay
Starring the movies is the amazing Jennifer Lawrence, but with all books, the movies have slight differences, although I definitely recommend watching them when you're done with the books.
A Short Summary:
In what was once North America, the Capitol of Panem maintains its hold on its 12 districts by forcing them each to select a boy and a girl, called Tributes, to compete in a nationally televised event called the Hunger Games. Every citizen must watch as the youths fight to the death until only one remains. District 12 Tribute Katniss Everdeen has little to rely on, other than her hunting skills and sharp instincts, in an arena where she must weigh survival against love.
(FILM SYNOPSIS)
Quotes:
"May the odds be ever in your favor." - Effie Trinket
"Fire is catching, and if we burn, you burn with us!" - Katniss Everdeen
“Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.” - President Snow

Tumblr media
Divergent is another book with a huge fandom, and rightfully so. This book is amazing, and you honestly can't live without having read it!
Order:
Divergent
Insurgent
Allegiant
Surprisingly, I haven't watched the movies yet, but I hear that they aren’t that bad, so you should give them a go!
Summary:
In a world run by fictional classes known as factions, children who reach the age of 16 begin to choose which factions they wish to call home for the rest of their lives. Each faction comes with its own ups and downs, so it's definitely a hard choice, especially for someone as unique as Beatrice.
Quotes:
“Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it“ - Four
“We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.” - Dauntless Motto
"We are not the same. But we are, somehow, one." - Tris

Tumblr media
You might have heard of this series, and it's really addictive, trust me! The Mortal Instruments is one of the most astonishing books I've ever read, and it's most definitely my go-to when recommending a book series!
Order:
City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
City of Fallen Angels
City of Lost Souls
City of Heavenly Fire
Again, (I know this is rather disappointing) I haven't watched the movies, but do check them out!
Summary:
Clary Fray's search for her missing mother leads her into an alternate New York called Downworld, filled with mysterious faeries, hard-partying warlocks, not-what-they-seem vampires, an army of werewolves, and the demons who want to destroy it all.

Quotes:
“Heroes aren't always the ones who win. They're the ones who lose, sometimes. But they keep fighting, they keep coming back. They don't give up. That's what makes them heroes.” - Clary Fairchild
“If I cannot move Heaven, I will raise Hell.” - Sebastion Morgenstern
“The descent into Hell is easy.” - Motto of the Nephilim

Gay. What more needs to be said?
SADLY, there isn't a movie yet, but I think they're working on one, or sure though
Summary:
Set in a world in which a female Democrat from Texas wins the presidency in 2016, Red, White & Royal Blue chronicles the illicit romance between the president's son, Georgetown senior Alex Claremont-Diaz (Dad is a Mexican-American senator), and Prince Henry of Wales, his childhood nemesis.

Also, classic enemies-friends-lovers arc and honestly it's amazing
Quotes:
“As your mother, I can appreciate that maybe this isn’t your fault, but as the president, all I want is to have the CIA fake your death and ride the dead-kid sympathy into a second term.” - Ellen Claremont
" 'that’s because you can’t hear all the menacing gobbling.' 'Yes, famously the most sinister of all animal sounds, the gobble.' " - Harry and Alex
"History, huh? Bet we could make some." - Alex

Tumblr media
I’m sure you've heard at least a little bit about this book. While not nearly as famous as ones mentioned above, it's still just as good, of not better. I'd say this book is one of my favorites, to be honest. It speaks about a lot of topics people usually find disturbing, and it makes me so happy that it's there, it's written, it's amazing. PTSD, coming out issues, abusive relationships and more, this book is truly awesome.
TRIGGER WARNING
Summary:
A young boy named Charlie usually dissociates, and pushes other people away. He’s afraid of beginning high school, until he meets two other students who show him how bizarre and amazing the world is.
Quotes:
“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite” - Charlie
“We accept the love we think we deserve” - Mr. Anderson
“You can't just sit there and put everybody's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love" - Sam
8.
Tumblr media
This book is honestly pro-feminist and I think that's much more than enough
Summary:
Kaur explores the true impact of sexual abuse and harassment, as well as the difficulties of immigrating, being a female, and depression.
It's also a poem
TRIGGER WARNING
Quotes:
“what is stronger
than the human heart
which shatters over and over
and still lives”
“you do not just wake up and become the butterfly
- growth is a process”
“on the last day of love
my heart cracked inside my body"

Tumblr media
This book isn't very well-known, which really sucks because I really love how it speaks about the consequences of WWII from the German point of view. And about the Germans who did not believe in Hitler's ways. It's also based on a real story, and it's so cool
Summary:
A nurse working in a nursing home meets a peculiar old lady who decides to tell her her story when she meets the nurse's younger son, Karl, who reminded her of her brother. Lizzie (the old lady) speaks about life in Dresden before the war, and even after it. She also tells them the story about the strange, magnificent elephant in her garden.
Quotes:
“That was the only way of keeping our hopes alive, by looking beyond all we were seeing around us, and the shadow of disaster that hung over us.” -
“I think I have always had a strong sense of justice, of fair play, of what is right and what is wrong.” -
“Our home should be an oasis of peace and harmony for us in a troubled world.” - Lizzie (Quoting Papi)

Tumblr media
This book is pro-blm and it's ahead of its time (by like 2 years but still).
Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. via: https://socialjusticebooks.org/the-hate-u-give/#:~:text=Sixteen%2Dyear%2Dold%20Starr%20Carter,hands%20of%20a%20police%20officer.
Quotes:
“Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right.” - Lisa
“Daddy once told me there’s a rage passed down to every black man from his ancestors, born the moment they couldn’t stop the slave masters from hurting their families. Daddy also said there’s nothing more dangerous than when that rage is activated.” - Starr
“Everybody wants to talk about how Khalil died,” I say. “But this isn’t about how Khalil died. It’s about the fact that he lived. His life mattered. Khalil lived!” I look at the cops again. “You hear me? Khalil lived!” - Starr

Welcome (again) to the Order of the Phoenix, Ashley!
You have been accepted for the role of PETER PETTIGREW, with your requested faceclaim change to Nico Mirallegro! We really enjoyed reading your application! We particularly liked how you didn’t go down the route of Peter didn’t have a choice, but instead owned that he did have a choice and made the wrong one. We absolutely agree that he should be included in all things Marauders because he was a Marauder and that’s what made the betrayal so heartbreaking! Can’t wait to see what you bring to this character!
Please take a look at the new member checklist and send in your account within 24 hours! Thank you for joining the fight against Voldemort!
OUT OF CHARACTER:
NAME: Ashley
AGE: 25+
TIMEZONE: EST
ACTIVITY LEVEL: I work part time, but I’m either always on my phone or online after work.
ANYTHING ELSE: N/A
CHARACTER DETAILS:
NAME: Peter Pettigrew
AGE: 21
GENDER, PRONOUNS, and SEXUALITY: CIS Male, He/Him, Confused - Peter has always assumed that he’s a straight man, but that he would never actually be with someone; who would want someone like him? However, that doesn’t mean that both women and men haven’t caught his eye before; he’s just never admitted that to anyone, or even to himself, because that’s not the way to survive. As far as he’s concerned, he’s going to be single the rest of his life, and his sexuality isn’t ever going to matter.
BLOOD STATUS: Half-Blood
HOUSE ALUMNI: Gryffindor
ANY CHANGES: I’d like to use Nico Mirallegro as his FC.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
PERSONALITY:
Self-Reliant; it was something that from practically day one Peter Pettigrew had to try and become, and it was something he hated, something that was so prevalent as a child that it felt like a constant weight on his shoulders; even though that was exactly what had saved him, and what had kept him alive thus far. As a child, it had kept him alive, had kept him away from the bullies, had kept him from going under. Always having to be one step ahead, one thought ahead, planning for the next step and the one after that. If he didn’t rely on himself, then he’d have never made it to Hogwarts. Self-reliance isn’t something that normally comes to mind when one thinks of Peter Pettigrew; and that not being the first thought, that’s exactly how Peter likes it. How can anyone know that he’s one step ahead, when they don’t think he can plan his next meal on his own?
The true hatstall was right; and perhaps Peter would have fit more with Slytherin than Gryffindor. After all, there is a certain amount of cunning that has to go into planning three steps ahead to make sure that you survive, right? However, having met those boys on the train, Peter had felt as if they would be the ones to keep him safe, to help him survive the next series of years at school. He’d already been bullied enough as a child before school, and he didn’t want to end up getting bullied his entire career at Hogwarts too. Sure, his first thoughts about the rest of the Marauders were that they would be the ones to keep him safe; but that didn’t mean his love for them was any less as he got to know them, nor that he didn’t truly want to be friends with them. His desperation to be in Gryffindor with them wasn’t just to survive, but because he felt like he needed to be with his friends; his first true friends that he’d ever had before.
Peter played stupid; it was a choice he made, because if he was stupid and always needing help, no one would want to rely on him or ask him for anything, right? And, he always thought that if it was shown he needed his friends and needed their help, they’d be more likely to stick around. For the first two years at Hogwarts, this game plan worked well; the other students and teachers thought he was stupid and an awful student, but because he hung around with the other Marauders, the other students became much less likely to bother him. His friends kept him safe. They also made him realize that he didn’t have to keep playing stupid around them, not that any of the teachers would ever believe he wasn’t still getting a ton of help, however.
The truth was though, that Peter wasn’t stupid. He wasn’t a squib, he wasn’t a hopeless case, and he wasn’t far below his fellow Marauders. After all, he’d helped in their quest to become Animagi, he’d helped with the creation of the Marauder’s Map, and he’d helped with so many of the pranks that they’d pulled. He wasn’t a genius or anything, but he had proved himself rather useful, at least to his friends, and well; if he had been completely useless, would they really have allowed him to stick around and continued to be friends with him?
However, Peter doesn’t believe that he has anywhere near the courage or bravery that his friends posses, and he’s convinced that the only reason the hat was kind enough to let him be in Gryffindor was because he was terrified to be without his friends. All that the hat told him about inner courage and such, it just seemed like a cop out to him. Peter doesn’t think that he’s brave at all. He’s never stood up to his mother, or to the bullies from his childhood, nor the ones at Hogwarts, and he’d easily participated in bullying Snape. He’s always just kept his head down and gone along with things, because it’s the safer option, because that’s what it takes to survive, and survival is what Peter cares about the most.
Very fearful and almost constantly anxious, Peter can easily be come off as shy and reserved to those that don’t know him super well like the Marauders, and that’s the way he wants it. He can appear almost anti-social or apathetic in situations that don’t directly involve him or his survival. It’s easy for others to think that he’s forgetful or foolish, though he does his best to stay useful. Useful to his friends and the Order so they don’t suspect him and turn on him, and useful to the dark lord so he doesn’t kill him. He’s terrified of both, and so weak-willed and desperate to survive that he can’t come clean to his friends and ask for help.
Eventually even, he’s come to believe that his friends really are above him; he’d already always thought they were braver than him, but they had to be smarter than him, stronger than him, all around just better than he was. He was losing faith in his own abilities, and starting to believe everything that so many others were saying; that he was so far below the other Marauders, that he shouldn’t bother. And if everyone else was saying it about the boys he idolized so much, it had to be the truth then, didn’t it? He loves them, so they have to be better than him.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF FAMILY:
Thistley Pettigrew was a young witch who grew up in her family home in Scotland. She was the apple of her parents eyes, pampered and treated as if she’d never have to have a care in the world. She went to Hogwarts and was a proud Slytherin, much to the surprise of her Gryffindor and Ravenclaw parents. Still, they loved their daughter more than anything and the three were very close. That was why, when they passed only a few months after she graduated from Hogwarts, it was so completely devastating to Thistley. She spent weeks mourning in the family home, before feeling as if she needed to get out; and so she began to travel and drink, partying as if she were trying to drown out the memories and forget the pain completely.
That was where she met Dalziel. It took awhile before she even learned his last name, not thinking it much important at all. He was a drinking buddy and a friend, an older man by seven years, who let her crash with him and who got her back safe when she’d gotten completely wasted. It went from drinking buddy, to friend, to friends with benefits, and Thistley was sure that she was starting to fall in love with the man. He was just what the pureblood needed, despite him being a muggle. She wanted him to stay with her, needed him to stay with her; he took care of her and made her feel as if her parents were right, that she wouldn’t have to have a care, because she would be taken care of. Who needed work when you had a man ready to provide for you?
It was when she became pregnant that things took a turn. Thistley had never wanted children, but Dalziel’s attention had started to wander towards other girls, girls younger than her age of twenty. She had to get the attention back on her, she had to keep him from leaving her; and so, she’d made sure that they weren’t as careful as they’d always been, and gotten herself pregnant. She was ecstatic, already thinking of them moving back to her family home and raising their child together, feeling as if she’d just won the lottery. But Dalziel… he hadn’t wanted children either, and when she announced that she was pregnant, he’d begun to look for a way out.
It was towards the end of her being seven months along that Dalziel left one night to get them food and he didn’t return. Thistley had fallen asleep, exhausted from the pregnancy, and awoken to find that he still hadn’t come back. She felt like she couldn’t be too concerned; he was having a child with her, he had to come back, didn’t he? But days went by and she didn’t hear from him, couldn’t find him. She didn’t leave the apartment though, desperately hoping that he would come back, and when she went into labor, she was sure that he would be at the hospital with her.
He wasn’t. He didn’t show up at the hospital, and Thistley was devastated. When she was finally ready to go home, she couldn’t go back to the apartment if he wasn’t there, and so she left a note for him, hoping he’d see it if he returned and that he would join her at her family home. She went there with her little boy, her little Peter. She’d named him, and in a fit of angry at Dalziel not being there for them, decided not to use his last name. Instead, she gave him her own last name, vowing that once his father returned, she’d change it for him. He was her darling little boy, her ticket to getting her love back, and Dalziel would return, he had to.
A year went by, and Dalziel never returned. Thistley was never able to find him, and it wore on her. Here she was now, a single mother of a small baby, living in a large building that felt less like a home anymore and more like a prison. It was in need of repair, and she was in need of money. She found a girl who was willing to babysit for her and watch Peter while she worked, and she was more than glad to hand off the small child to someone else. She’d started to resent her child, and she didn’t have time to take care of him or focus on him, not when she had to begin working and getting things back together for her life. She was tired, angry at the world, and upset at the fact that people looked at her as if she were garbage.
The babysitter seemed to care about as much as his mother did. She took care of the boy, of course, making sure he was bathed and fed and was learning to talk and walk as he grew… but it was a job and not her own child. It was at that point, as he began to get old enough to learn and do things on his own, that Peter had to really learn to become self-reliant. His mother was always busy and rarely had time to even speak to her child, and the babysitter had started becoming more interested in sneaking around the home with her boyfriend than actually watching over the child she was supposed to be taking care of. It was only a few years that she was even there, since she rarely got paid and finally had enough.
Peter learned quickly to take care of himself. It weight heavily on the young boy’s shoulders, and he vowed that once he was older… once he was older, he would have help. He wouldn’t have to be so self-sufficient. He’d have people to take care of him and do things for him. He wouldn’t have to worry about being safe, or fearing for his life because he had to go into town on his own; he’d have people that would protect him unlike his mother, and who would make sure he was safe and alive. Survival was his main focus, and it was learning to think two steps ahead and always trying to figure out the next outcome that would become ingrained in his mind.
He’d once tried to ask his mother about his father; because well, what child wouldn’t be interested in the parent that wasn’t there, wanting to know why he wasn’t. Had he died? Left them? It had eaten away at him for so long, and finally he’d asked, but he hadn’t gotten the answer he expected. His mother had brushed him off like it didn’t matter, telling him that she didn’t know the man’s last name, and that it wasn’t important anyway. Peter was so surprised by it, and off put by his mother’s reaction, that he was too scared to ever ask her about it again, despite wanting to desperately find the man.
When it was his turn to go to Hogwarts, his mother was actually very surprised that he’d even gotten his letter; she hadn’t realized that her son had any magical talent, though that was probably because she hadn’t paid much attention to him at all. All Peter wanted was to go and learn enough to keep himself safe and alive. If he could learn enough for that, that was all that mattered. He wasn’t a leader, he didn’t want to go in and run things, he didn’t want to be some superstar… all he wanted was to be accepted by someone, to be included and feel like, for once in his life, he wasn’t completely alone. All he wanted was to survive.
OCCUPATION: Peter is a Potioneer at the Apothecary in Diagon Alley.
ROLE WITHIN THE ORDER/THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORDER:
Peter never wanted to join the Order. He wasn’t a huge supporter of the cause, he didn’t want to fight… but the others had joined, and who was he to disagree? They weren’t in the dorm anymore, and he was terrified that them being apart would mean they would leave him behind. Losing his friends would have been devastating to him, and so, as with everything else, he followed along without question. But he isn’t convinced that in the end, they’re going to come out on top. He gets it. The others are passionate about the cause, they’re so concerned with what’s right and wrong, and they want to fight for those rights for everyone. They want to save the world, and it doesn’t surprise Peter at all. His friends especially have always had the gumption to do just that, and the belief that they can and will. But he isn’t convinced that it’s going to work, and he’s scared of what the outcome could be. Of course he wants things to turn out right… but he doesn’t want to have to give his life in order to make that happen. He wants to live. He’s not even sure that they’re not all wasting their time with the Order, or if it’s not all going to crumble around them, and very soon. Him betraying them is just loosening the stones in the foundation, and he can’t help but be torn between the thoughts of ‘this was already happening’ and ‘I’m the one that’s bringing it down’.
SURVIVAL:
Peter survives because he’s become a double agent. He’s made himself useful to both sides, and therefore whichever side is winning, that’s the side he’s going to jump ship to. It’s a heartbreaking idea to him, and he can feel the guilt gnawing away at his insides, but he knows it’s what he has to do. He has to be able to survive, and that means doing things he doesn’t want to do. No matter what, he’s going to live; even if that means he has to destroy those he loves in order to do it. He’s useful to the Order by his profession, and the fact that the Marauders are there and he’s one of them. He’s useful to the Dark Lord because he’s an inside man and can pass on things from the Order. He feels like he has protection from both sides, and as long as those two sides don’t figure out what he’s doing… then he’s going to be alright. But having to lie to his friends, and having to be careful around the Dark Lord, it’s taking a toll. He wishes that he had been stronger, that he had been brave or courageous for once in his life… but that wasn’t to be, and now he just has to live with what he’s done.
He’s currently in a very small apartment in London. His mother didn’t want him coming back to the family home, not when she finally had the house to herself again, and so he’d scrounged up enough money to move out, and now has his own little apartment. To him, it’s a blessing, because he can actually rest and relax there. However, he does miss the dorm room so much, and it can get incredibly lonely for him being on his own. It’s warmly decorated, and he’s got so many blankets; on the couch, on his bed, on the chair, almost as if he’s using the blankets to nest in to feel safer.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Peter loves his friends almost more than anything, the only thing he cares about more is, well, himself. Still, the Marauders mean the world to him, and he looks up to them so much. They’ve always been, in his view, the best people in the entire world. They’re smarter than him, stronger than him, braver than him, and all around better; at least he’s convinced himself of this. He still almost doesn’t understand why they’d be friends with someone like him. Still, he loves them. He’s always been close with Remus, admired Sirius, and looked up to James. He could talk for hours about how great they are, and yet, here he is betraying them. He feels guilty and wishes he could just confide in them, that he could just tell them what he’s done and break down and ask for help… but he’s too far in at this point to stop it, and he’s convinced that even if they did find out, they wouldn’t help him; they’d just turn on him for it taking this long for him to do anything. So, that option is off the table, and it breaks his heart. For now, the only way he’s staying above water is lying to them, and that’s going to be how it has to go. It’s the same for the others in the Order. Peter cares for them, he’s watched them fight and struggle to survive, just as he’s doing. But he can’t sacrifice himself to keep them alive. So, as much as he looks up to all of them, and wants to be close and friends with them as well, he can’t help but keep that thought in the back of his head, 'I have to survive first’.
OOC EXPLORATION:
SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS: Peter/Chemistry is what I ship, although Peter is really not seemingly interested in anything romantic at this point, and may not be; not when there’s a war and his survival has to come first, and not when he’s sure no one will ever want him.
WHAT PRIVILEGES AND BIASES DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE?
Being that his mother is a pureblood and that he, and most others, don’t know who his father is, Peter gets away with being a half-blood that thinks his father was also a wizard, not a muggle. His mother has basically insisted that his father was also a wizard, though only a half-blood, so that Peter wouldn’t have the 'stain’ of having a muggle for a father. Listening to his mother, Peter didn’t have the best opinion of muggles growing up. However, meeting muggleborns like Lily and stepping further out into the world instead of his family home, Peter’s eyes opened up more and he’s much more accepting than he was before. Yes, he still has the occasional slip-ups where he says something biased or rude, but he’s still learning. The hardest thing for him now is the fact that he’s around the Death Eaters that talk so badly about muggles and muggleborns, and it’s hard for him sometimes to remember to keep those thoughts out of his head except when he’s with them. After all, he doesn’t want to slip up in front of Lily when he adores her so much, and he doesn’t want her to hate him.
It’s hard for him to keep both worlds separate sometimes, going between the open minded thoughts of the real him, being with the order and his friends (i.e. being completely fine with werewolves, because obviously he became an Animagi to help Remus and stay with him during a full moon, being okay with muggles because of being around them and such, etc.) but also, going back to the close-minded feelings he has to get in his head with the Death Eaters. Having to hate muggles and muggleborns, having to dislike werewolves, having to think purebloods are better than everyone else. Those thoughts burrow deep, and it’s hard to shake them. Still, as a white, CIS man, Peter seems like he can get away with a little bit more; that and the fact that he’s learned to just keep his mouth shut and not say anything at all, well, that makes more sense.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
Peter has never been my favorite Marauder, by far. However, I’ve always had a soft spot for him, especially after the way he’s always treated in the fandom. Yes, he was awful in his later years and there’s no denying that. However, he was still a Marauder. He still was their friend. He still was one of them, no matter how much anyone wants to try and erase it or leave him out of all the edits and stories, etc, that they make. So really, I’m just mostly looking forward to getting to play him. Getting to show that there’s more to Peter Pettigrew than just the “evil man who turned on the people who cared for him”, and getting to play out the fact that he’s torn between two worlds and that he’s just desperately trying to survive, and so misguided that he thinks the only way to survive is to step on those he loves. I’m looking forward to playing out all the different sides of him, and to show that he’s such a complex character, and that maybe if he’d just been treated differently, or things had been handled different, it wouldn’t have turned out the way it did for him or anyone else.

I’m so happy for Ricky and his family! If the tin hats really cared about being good allies, they’d spend their energy on celebrating people like Ricky, Chris, NPH, and Matt Bomer. Gay men who are showing the world how diverse, talented, and successful the LBGTQIA+ community can be. If you want to help the community, support and celebrate actual members of it. Volunteer with programs like Trevor. By all means, be a Darren fam, but don’t pretend that makes you an ally.
Ps, I’m the anon who just sent a message about the diversity in the community then realized I listed three white guys and one Latino man when obviously it’s much more diverse than that. I ran short on characters to type. But Toderick and Billy Porter and Laverne Cox and countless others also exist and they could support them as well. But they’d rather go on fetishizing STRAIGHT Darren with an actual gay man instead.
Yes, I cannot agree more.  It is incredulous that she believes that Darren and Chris would be a love to change the world but then refuses to actually look for real-world example of gay love who are already doing that. People can’t change the world because they love someone else of the same sex. Love doesn’t actually change the world contrary to what musicians have told us for decades.  Changing the world takes work- hard work-a lot of dialogue, a lot of putting oneself and one’s love out there. You have to be willing to share your story very openly but neither the Captain of the ship, Christopher Paul Colfer nor the spineless Twitt, Darren Everett Criss is comfortable doing that. Both men are very obviously in committed relationships but Darren rarely talks about Mia and certainly doesn’t post pics off her very often. He willingly shared the most impersonal wedding photos of the lot. He makes it look like he is more open than he is -he’s magic like that-but when you get down to it we know he is married to Mia and they have a piano bar but we don’t know all that much more-we get glimpses. Chris is way more protective of his personal life.  I cannot imagine either one of them is going to show their children in regular social media posts where they speak about their lives together.
People who are changing the world one instagram post at a time are NPH & David Burtka or Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brandt. Both couples share their families and their love on social media easily and regularly. Matt Dallas and his husband Blu and their child have a YouTube channel they made specially to change the world regarding gay marriage and families (I said this before but I Loved watching them until Blu admired he’s a huge conspiracy theory junkie-and mentioned 9/11- and I just couldn't respect him ever again).  Pete and Chastain Buttigieg have the potential to really change the world. Pete is talking to so many people as he campaigns. Just sharing his story will change minds but he’s also helping shape policy in South Bend and as his career goes on, he will have a bigger say in bigger areas of America.
Talking about the trans community- People like Laverne Cox are so damn brave. To stand up and be yourself with the world judging is difficult but to do so as a trans person right now is so so brave. Billy is changing gender norms every time he goes to a red carpet wearing the most fabulous gender-bending clothing as does Nico Tortorella, Jonathon VanNess, Johnny Weir, Valentina and Laganga Estranga. Trans actors are getting work-some playing trans characters like Jaime Clayton from Sens8, Lachlan Watson from Sabrina, and the amazing cast of Pose  and some it isn’t clear if it will ever be mentioned like Theo Germaine from The Politician. It takes people to be the first to walk the path and I’m in awe of their bravery- both in transitioning, pushing boundaries, and in living their lives in the public eye.
The tinhatters are a group of mostly straight women- at least the leaders are- who are fantasizing that an openly straight man is gay.  It is really messed up and the farthest thing from what an ally does. Allies need to LISTEN to the LGBTQ community and support them as they want to be supported, not push our own fantasies and fetishes onto the community to fit our our needs. The tinhatters are obsessed with Chris and mostly Darren because they are safe gay men. They don’t “act” gay. Abby and her little nest of killer bees are disgusted by the LGBTQ people and the overt sexual innuendos they see at Tramp Stamp Granny’s-they write Lulu’s name as double toilet emoji’s, they are horrified by dripping vaginas of the burlesque dancers and they cannot stand the sexual puns. They like their gay sex to be tame and timid. Chris and Darren provide perfect scapegoats for their fantasy because Klaine were pretty tame- it was mostly hand holding and flirty looks, a touch of their fingers and walking hand-in-hand. But in real life both man keep their public behavior with their lovers to rated-G behavior. It not only helps the tinhatters with their fantasy-they don't have to erase Darren and Mia kissing all that often and they never have to do so with Chris and Will-but they also don’t have to face either man as sexual outside of their own fantasy.

Um for the Sorting, can I ask multiple characters? I'll just tell you them but you can juts puck your favourite to do if it's only one. They're from the percy jackson/heroes of olympus series. The seven from the prophecy and nico di angelo. Thank you! I love your blog! It's amazing
This sorting was also requested by @percyjacksonzodiacs, we hope that we can do it justice for you! (Sorry it took so long!)
*This sorting contains SPOILERS for the following book series: Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus*
Tumblr media
Percy: Hufflepuff
One of Percy’s main characteristics is that he’s loyal to the core (in the books, it’s even revealed that his fatal flaw is his undying loyalty.) He turns down godhood in the first series because he wants to stay with his friends and has risked his life on multiple occasions to protect friends, strangers, and enemies alike. This boy would do anything for the people he loves, and is incredibly kind and accepting. He’s also very hardworking and dedicated, and usually foresees missions through to the end, especially if it’s to help his friends or family.
Annabeth: Ravenclaw
Like most Ravenclaws, Annabeth is incredibly intelligent. With Athena, the goddess of wisdom herself, as her mother, it truly makes sense that this girl is a Ravenclaw. She constantly relies on logic and has often been shown to think things through before acting (unlike Percy, who tends to jump right in.) She’s even called “Wise Girl” on multiple occasions by Percy! For a girl as thoughtful as Annabeth, is there truly a better house than Ravenclaw?
Jason: Gryffindor
Son of Zeus, Jason Grace is a natural leader. Like many Gryffindors, he is brave and confident, believing in both himself and others. He is willing to go up against stronger enemies, even if he knows that the odds aren’t on his side. Jason is also very heroic, and will protect his friends in a heartbeat, regardless of the consequences. He shows a few Hufflepuff traits as well (like his acceptance of Nico’s sexuality and his loyalty to his friends), but in the end he seems to fit the Gryffindor mold a little bit better.
Piper: Slytherin
Piper is a strong, rebellious character. She follows her heart, not unlike how a Slytherin would pursue their goals or ambitions. Despite being a child of Aphrodite, she isn’t afraid to play dirty, and is a force to be reckoned with when she or her friends are messed with. Piper is a Slytherin for her drive, strong willpower, sharp bite, and the protective way she defends the ones she loves.
Leo: Ravenclaw
Let’s get one thing straight: Leo fixes a giant metal dragon, becomes friends with said dragon, and helps build the Argo II. He is an incredibly talented and intelligent character. He takes his work seriously and is dedicated to his creations. Leo is also quite individualistic (a defining Ravenclaw trait), though it can be noted that this leads to one of his main faults: his inferiority complex. Leo is a very unique, different character (especially compared to the others.) He recognizes this, and it causes him to draw himself away and alienate himself instead of recognizing his own strengths and abilities. Despite this, we are still able to see him learn and grow throughout the series, and he slowly begins to accept himself and his abilities, just as any true Ravenclaw would.
Frank: Gryffindor
Despite being somewhat shy and modest a lot of the time, Frank is a very brave character. He overcomes his fear of the thing that could kill him, which is a very difficult and hard thing to do that some people never manage. He also becomes more confident as the series progresses, and is shown to be both strong and courageous on the battlefield!
Hazel: Gryffindor
Hazel is fearless, y’all. She marches into danger without blinking an eye or with a fear of mortality- perhaps because she’s already died. She has literally sacrificed herself in a variety of painful ways that are to save her friends/facilitate the greater good. She encapsulates the Gryffindor traits of bravery, courage, and a thirst for justice to the ‘T,’ and would do well in the house of red and gold.
Nico: Ravenclaw
Alright! Time for my baby Nico! Nico is such a complex character, y’all. He pulls traits from nearly every house, which makes him so difficult to sort. However, he seems to pull most of his characteristics from those associated with Ravenclaw. Intelligence. Wit. Creativity. Originality. Acceptance. Nico is definitely an original- he often spends most of his time alone, doing his own thing. He doesn’t need anyone else. He’s shown himself to be creative from the little creations he makes with the bones, and fun he has playing games such as Mythomagic. (side note: he’s such a nerd over those mythomagic cards. another reason.)  Lastly, one of the most important things to Nico is acceptance. Both Percy’s and Bianca’s acceptance of him is why he loves them so much. He resents his time at Camp Half-Blood so much because he was rejected. He even has an emotional moment in which he reveals that he feels no one has ever-or will ever- accept him for who he is. Part of your sorting is your personality/who you are, but the other part is what the house could provide that you would need. Ravenclaw would provide Nico with the acceptance he so fervently sought after.

Welcome to the Order of the Phoenix, Sammy!
You have been accepted for the role of PETER PETTIGREW, with your requested faceclaim change to Nico Mirallegro! We really enjoyed reading your application! We particularly like the way you showed the way Peter is still understanding his identity - not just with his sexuality, but also that lingering question of who he is. We are so excited to have you as part of this roleplay!
Please take a look at the new member checklist and send in your account within 24 hours! Thank you for joining the fight against Voldemort!
OUT OF CHARACTER:
NAME: Sammy
AGE: 23
TIMEZONE: CST
ACTIVITY LEVEL: I should be on about 3 days a week, give or take given I work almost every day
ANYTHING ELSE: I’m highly triggered by imagery of needles or descriptions of their use, also I’ve been roleplaying in some form or another for 12 years
CHARACTER DETAILS:
NAME: Peter Horatio Pettigrew
AGE: 22
GENDER, PRONOUNS, and SEXUALITY: Cismale, he/him, and homosexual. Peter doesn’t even fully realize that he’s never been interested in the women around him. At school he chalked it up to himself being the odd one in the group, the unpopular boy in the wake of Gryffindors everyone knew. His belief is that he simply hasn’t noticed his attraction to women yet while he sits and idolizes men he finds attractive such as James.
BLOOD STATUS: Half-Blood
HOUSE ALUMNI: Gryffindor
ANY CHANGES: Nico Mirallegro fc change please
CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
PERSONALITY:
Overview:
Peter finds that he has very little confidence which is one of the main problems with him succeeding socially. He doesn’t trust his instincts and his self-preservative mindset has led to him following whoever he deems to be the biggest man at the table. James Potter and Sirius Black, as well as the very smart Remus Lupin, had been the big boys at Hogwarts and Peter had the uncanny ability to read that in them as early as the train ride their first year. He believes that by keeping his mouth shut he’ll be able to play both sides and survive when the biggest dog in the dogfight eventually succeeds.
__
Expanded:
Many who knew Peter Pettigrew would call him simple or naive. He wasn’t top of his class like Remus Lupin, instead his marks hovered on the middle to lower ends of the grade book. He had accepted that about himself, knew that he wasn’t meant for greatness like his friends. Peter was simply happy to be a member of the group. He didn’t need to be smart because Remus had that covered. He didn’t need to be charismatic, Sirius was practically dripping with it. He didn’t even necessarily need to be brave for James was the bravest man Peter knew. All Peter had to be in that context was helpful, which he supposed he could manage.
What most people didn’t expect Peter to be capable of was reading people. He might not have been good one on one with his peers but reading people and being able to tell what kind of person they were was Peter’s quiet talent. He could tell who could be useful and who to avoid. It was one of his biggest strengths in life. People were easier to read than his textbooks, their tells much more of a giveaway then people expected. Peter didn’t advertise this ability very often, actually content with his simple reputation.
The main trait Peter has relates to his ability to read people and it is his self-preservation. He values his life over all else. His safety, his stability, is the most important thing. He takes calculated risks, ones that he’s sure will result in him not coming out on the bottom. He’s not aiming for the top, he just doesn’t want to be on the bottom of the dog pile.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF FAMILY:
Peter’s muggle father was never in the picture, he doesn’t even know the man’s name, but Ms. Hattie Pettigrew, the beautiful witch that she was, had a clear focus and keen mind that simply were not equipped to focus on her son. She was striving for the best in everything she reached for, a child not having fit into the plan she’d laid out for herself. She worked in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement doing paperwork all day to her heart’s content.
Peter didn’t have the same drive as her, though she was quick to tell him that only the brightest minds would get ahead. Peter wondered what constituted a great mind in his mother’s opinion, not considering himself particularly intelligent but, instead, rather clever. He often wondered how it was he’d managed to get into Gryffindor, not possessing many of the traits of his house, but he valued bravery despite not possessing it and he supposed that counted for their purposes, even if his mother found that foolish of him.
OCCUPATION:
Peter is currently unemployed. He has hopped from job to job (ex. Flourish & Blotts, The Three Broomsticks, Madame Malkin’s, various muggle shops) with nothing making him feel as though he were a good fit. He’s debated just picking some random Ministry job at this point, though that was never one of his plans.
ROLE WITHIN THE ORDER/THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORDER:
Peter doesn’t hate the Order, nor does he love it either. He joined to keep his friends close and, while he has seen a great deal of them since they’ve graduated, his involvement with the Death Eaters is eating away at him. He doesn’t believe they can possibly win this war, but he’s not confident enough to walk away, especially with his friends still inside.
He’s glad to be considered somewhat Mid-Level, though he knows that the Dark Lord would prefer him to worm his way higher up the ladder. He’s grateful to be James’ friend in that way, hoping that he can convince James to confide in him to get what he needs without raising suspicion over his sudden interest in rising among the ranks. Ambition wasn’t something Peter was known for.
SURVIVAL:
Peter has never been one of the top dogs in life due to much of his own doing. In primary school he was shy and got bullied for his inability to gain friends as smoothly as the other children. He hated that feeling, hated not being able to defend himself. When his magic would burst out toward his assailants he didn’t regret it, though he also didn’t tell his mother either. He just wanted to get those children off his back.
Heading to Hogwarts, Peter worried his new Wizarding school would be just the same as his muggle one. Finding comfort in the brilliant Remus Lupin opened up every door for Peter beyond his wildest dreams. Becoming a Marauder was one of the best things for his confidence. He fit in, he was safe from harm. No one but the Slytherins were going to mess with him and, even then, his friends were at his side. His abilities rose and he began to blossom into a competent wizard, even if he wasn’t as talented as his friends. He could sense their aura of power, could tell this is what safety felt like. He couldn’t risk losing it.
Now that they’re out of school and without the safety net of living in the same dorm, he feels his safety net start to bow and tear. He would do anything to keep his life intact, meaning he had to join the Order. At first the Order felt like a place he could be taken care of, especially with his friends by his side, but he quickly saw their numbers dwindling and the dangerous situations they were putting themselves in rise. It quickly became a situation he wanted out of without being able to do anything about it.
When the Death Eaters approached Peter about spying on the Order he hadn’t been entirely sure what would have possessed them to ask. He wasn’t smart or talented or even charismatic but he quickly realized that was exactly what made him a good spy. People expected little to nothing from simple Peter Pettigrew. He buys his continued existence with information, even at the expense of those he does care for. Survival is key to Peter, above all else.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Friendship comes second to survival in Peter’s eyes. He loves his friends dearly, or as dearly as he possibly could, but his own well-being would always have to come first.
Peter sympathizes with the idea of the Dissendium Task Force, though he chooses not to include himself in its inner-workings so he has less to report on the subject. He thinks that Remus, Lily, and Marlene are doing the right thing by protecting those who need safety. He’d take that exit if he could himself.
Peter can feel his friendships slipping through his fingers, like sand that he is trying so desperately to cling to. He used to feel included and an integral part of the group but now he finds that as James has risen and he’s started to betray those he cares for most he’s teetering closer and closer to losing everything that has ever mattered to him.
OOC EXPLORATION:
SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS: Ships: Peter/Chemistry -- Anti-Ships: Peter/Women, Peter/Forced
WHAT PRIVILEGES AND BIASES DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE?
Peter is still afraid of the concept surrounding werewolves. He accepts Remus because Remus was brought up around witches and wizards but he has fear of other half-breeds with less of that magical experience than his friends. Being a half-blood, he feels he’s able to coast when it comes to society. No expectations from a pureblooded standpoint but he’s also not in danger like muggle-borns.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
The concept looks really unique and fun, plus seeing how many members were involved and how many characters were taken actually made it seem much more appealing because it sounds like things will be very active.
PLOT DROP IDEAS:
Peter getting caught spying Peter dying is even on the table if you guys need someone to take a fall Kidnapping of characters
ANYTHING ELSE? I hope this was better!
