Ned Collette is one of our favourite ex-pats. Originally from Melbourne but residing in Berlin, Ned's solo work spans an impressive breadth from his early finger-picked folk days, to full band indie-rock & krautrock-tinged electronica, up to his more recent avant-garde jazz leanings on 2018's Old Chestnut.
His 2006 debut solo album Jokes And Trials came shortly after the disbandment of post-rock/instrumental ensemble City City City, and saw him forego the democracies of a group to craft a subtle folk album on which he wrote and arranged all the songs. Featuring nods toward influences such as Robert Wyatt, Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake and Bert Jansch, this excellent full-length had been resigned to the "CD only" grave of many mid-2000's releases until earlier this year when it was revived and put to vinyl for the very first time by Sophomore Lounge & FEEDING TUBE RECORDS.
Severely underrated in his home country, this LP received no local release so we've imported copies direct from the U.S. Only 500 pressed, in-stock now for $50. Highly recommended along with the rest of his catalogue!
(P.s. The Perimeter Motor Show vinyl re-issue, when?!)
