So someone DM’d me to say “Sorry for my curiosity but your hair is important to you?”

I initially started talking shît like “is yours not important to you?” BUT I said “Bre… now although you think it’s an inappropriate and ignorant question to ask someone, MaaaaYBE this person just doesn’t live on the same Earth you live on!” 😂

I didn’t respond in the message. SO. If you see this the answer is I’M important to me!!! My hair is just one part of the whole me. I feel most beautiful when I look like ME! I embrace and love the beauty I inherited from my Mama and the male who impregnated her. There’s no shame here because I stand on the belief that my creator didn’t make not nann mistake on me. I look exactly how I’m supposed to look!

Beyond myself, other so-called black women are important to me. I see Us so I see Our struggles. Accepting our hair as it naturally grows is one of them. It be like that when you live in an abnormal society that is intentionally Anti-YOU. A society that degrades and discriminates against your Afro hair in all settings… school, work, media, et cetera. I show up because I know representation has a positive impact on one’s self-image and self-esteem! I also know that confidence can be contagious. Nobody wants to be insecure that’s why people are thrilled when they see other people being confident. It inspires them to reach for their own confidence if they lack it.

Bre don’t wait on others to do for her what she can and should do for herself! I acknowledge and affirm me! ME includes my hair!

This is self-acceptance. This is self-knowledge. This is self-love. THAT’S important to me! That’s my duty in this lifetime and beyond!
