PhilHealth Welcomes Health Secretary Teddy Herbosa to Board Meeting in Tagum City
Tumblr media
TAGUM CITY, DAVAO DEL NORTE - The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Secretary of Health, Dr. Teodoro "Teddy" J. Herbosa, during its 8th Regular Board Meeting held in this city yesterday. Dr. Herbosa assumes the role of the ex officio non-voting Chairperson of the PhilHealth Board of Directors, the highest governing body of the organization. With his appointment, he joins 10 other ex officio and expert panel members currently serving on the board.
Commitment to Stewardship
In his address to the Board, Secretary Teddy emphasized the crucial role of PhilHealth as stewards of the people's money, which must be promptly and efficiently utilized to pay for life-saving health services. He stressed the importance of disbursing as much money as actuarially possible to provide healthcare benefits.
Addressing Urgent Matters
Following the conclusion of the earthquake in Metro Manila and the assurance of safety for Board Members to participate in a hybrid set-up, the Board commenced deliberations on several important matters. These included the prompt payment of pandemic front line hospitals, the implementation of primary care provider networks in "sandbox" sites, and the resolution of hospitals' appeals regarding claims payments.   Sec. Herbosa said, "Under my watch, PhilHealth will resolve the appeals of our hospitals and doctors swiftly. We will decide using the principles of compassion and social justice, forgiving those who committed honest mistakes and punishing those who dare take advantage of our national health insurance. Ito ay dahil sa bawat buhay ay mahalaga - we must ensure continuous access to quality health care by our members."
Accountability and Swift Action
Secretary Herbosa and the board members were updated on the new accounting guidelines for primary care capitation payments by the Commission on Audit (COA). They promptly addressed the appeals from three hospitals regarding their PhilHealth payments. Secretary Teddy emphasized that under his leadership, PhilHealth would swiftly resolve appeals from hospitals and doctors. The decisions would be guided by principles of compassion and social justice, forgiving honest mistakes while holding accountable those who attempt to exploit the national health insurance system. He emphasized the importance of valuing every life and ensuring continuous access to quality healthcare for PhilHealth members.
Moving Forward
The Board Meeting served as a platform for collaboration and strategic decision-making to enhance PhilHealth's services and fulfill its mission of providing comprehensive health coverage to all Filipinos. Secretary Teddy Herbosa's presence and commitment to efficient healthcare delivery brought a renewed sense of purpose to the Board, setting the stage for continued progress and improvements in the nation's healthcare system. As PhilHealth navigates the challenges ahead, the organization remains steadfast in its dedication to the welfare and well-being of the Filipino people, ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to accessing quality healthcare.   Sources: THX News & Department of Health. My mother and I went to a large general hospital in my neighborhood for an examination of my mother's chronic disease. The cost was less than 20,000 yen, ($150 USD) with National Health Insurance. I checked the price in the U.S. and it was about $7,600 (1,000,000 yen), for the examination only. Japan's National Health Insurance system allows people in the countryside to receive such services. Wheelchairs in the hospital are available for rent free of charge. So my mother used and she said it is very comfortable. I had a walk in blood test with a CBC (comprehensive blood count), a comprehensive chemistry panel, a TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), and B12 level. In the USA, I’d need a doctor to order it and even with insurance it would run me roughly $500. Here in Japan (a capitalist country, by the way) it cost me ¥4,389. Looks like a lot, but that comes out to $40.13. SO, to those of you out there who think that anything we’ve had going in the American healthcare system over the past few decades is even REMOTELY ACCEPTABLE. You’re wrong. We’re THE wealthiest country on planet earth. There’s absolutely no excuse whatsoever. STFU about socialism, because this isn’t a socialist country at all. Their economy is worse than ours and still they’ve managed to pull this off. My medication (Copaxone) at brand name in the USA is $5,640/month, here it’s $450, brand name. It’ll be even better once generic is approved. Thing is, IT WILL NOT IMPROVE IF YOU KEEP FLIP FLOPPING FROM RED TO BLUE TO RED TO BLUE. There are no liberals. There are no conservatives. Not even 1 Republican is on your side. Maybe 4 or 5 Democrats MIGHT be, but that’s like expecting a mouse to kick a cat’s ass. #dumpbothparties2020 #2partytyranny #medicalmafia #stranglehold #yourhealthistheirhostage #gunsdontmakeyoufree #troopswontkeepyoufree #yourparticipationmatters #healthcareinamerica #nationalhealthinsurance https://www.instagram.com/p/B6flHPlpcqx/?igshid=1vgm6jjxes9iq

I’ve had these disturbing huge moles on the top of my dome-piece for years. The big one we called “my button” (on/off) was originally a wound from a steel hatch to the fan room above C Storeroom down in 1st Division Berthing when GQ sounded off and I scurried 2 decks up a ladder only to conk my head dead center. (thank god for safety nets) Then I had what I thought was a mole on my right cheek that recently started growing like a 17th Century peasant’s facial adornment (wart), and got them all laser removed. The big one had to be cut off with scissors but they’ve been removed. The big one had always been the primary reason I wear hats. I always felt self conscious about it. My skin’s terrible these days since I’d been consuming cheese lately. But all this was roughly $116, and my health insurance is dirt cheap here. Just saying, this is what happens when you live in a country that has a right and proper national health insurance program that isn’t used as a control mechanism to keep you afraid and constantly treading water. #healthcaresystem #bettersystem #nationalhealthinsurance #japanlife #walkin #noappointment #immediatecare #justshowedup (at Wanitakashiro, Otsu-shi) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5HaY2VJubO/?igshid=tbofg6g036bb

2 X-Rays and a Doctor’s consultation ¥1550 = $14.11. This isn’t socialism, it’s national health insurance that we pay for and that was all I paid at the hospital cashier with no follow up bill. This is what happens when people give a shit about each other. #americanhealthcaresucks #thisishowitsdone #thisisnotsocialism #nationalhealthinsurance #surprised #japanlife #mylifeinjapan #notperfectbutgood (at Katata, Otsu-shi) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4tcF5xpxN9/?igshid=1oaqn5qqpocme
