Our life on film I’ve finally finished scanning everything i have, 4500 odd slides and negatives that compose my father’s life in photographs. My life too. These are moments I cherish as proper good memories of my childhood, along with others I can’t recall that I’m so grateful to have found. I can feel our connection in these images, our similarities and differences. My dad wasn’t around much after his first major arrest. I remember the detectives walking up our long dirt driveway in their suits, my sister crying, my mom ripping the cops a new A. Dad went pretty quietly. My folks held it together for the next few years, for the sake of the kids, but the dream had been broken. People often comment how cool it is he’s in Europe, but to me it wouldn’t matter if it was Paris France or Paris Texas, Reno or Rocamadour. He was larger than life when I was little, but bottom line is he wasn’t there to guide me, when I really needed him to show me how to be a man. But I’ve still got access. My Father’s Eyes

Long story, but worth the read... I own a beautiful rather large designer ottoman crafted of solid wood with the most beautifully detailed woodwork and doglike feet on it. I found it years ago at Rooms-To-Go and immediately fell in love with it. It was the most beautiful ottoman I'd ever seen. The color matched perfectly with the burgundy and gold tones in my living room. It was priced at $499 but was marked down because something heavy had been placed on it during shipping and broke it, fracturing it near three of the four legs. To them it was hopeless and no one would be able to use it. So they were willing to give it away for $10.99.

Everyone that walked past it sneered and laughed wondering why they didn't just throw it away, but when I saw it, my heart sank deep in my chest. I immediately thought of how broken and useless I once felt. How I was laughed at, sneered at, looked over and pushed to the side. I told my son Tony, "I have to buy this." After buying it, I sought out professional woodworkers and asked if they could fix it. They all felt it was beyond repair; but they didn't see what I saw... I saw me and a Heavenly father who thought I was worth fixing. So I prayerfully asked God to help ME fix it.

So I went to Lowe's, bought some gorilla wood glue and clamps. I removed the band's from the bottom to release the pressure that had been put on the wood stressing it out. (We all have too much pressure on us sometimes pushing us to the breaking point.) Can you see where I'm going with this? Anyway. After releasing the bands, I put on the wood glue and clamped it together. I allowed it to sit for some days until the glue dried. It was looking pretty good and has held strong. I've used this ottoman now since 2006. Over the last almost 10 years now it has brought me great comfort. I've cried on it, prayed on it, rested my feet, even slept on it.

You see, God took a nobody and did the same thing in her life. He is now using her for His glory. He saw something in her (me) that nobody else saw. That's how we need to look at others... not through with our own eyes, but with our Father's eyes. His eyes look beyond our faults and sees our need. Eyes that find the good in others, when good is not present. I choose to see through ‪#‎MyFathersEyes‬.

Well, my ottoman is broken again and looks pretty bad this time. I still use it, but no one can sit on it. I keep it covered and use it to rest my weary feet when I get home. No one really cares about it like I do. My family suggests I get rid of it. They even left it at the old residence when we moved, but I went and got it. I'm struggling with what to do with it. I afraid I'm gonna have to retire it, but it has so much sentimental (and spiritual) value to me. I almost wish I could use the wood to remake it into another ottoman. Idk.
