Is a heavy or extra heavy buffer overkill for a midlength ar15? I've got an adjustable gas block so I'm not too worried about under/over gassing

Depends on what caliber you run.Alot of people suggest a heavy buffer for things like 458 socom/50 beowulf, and they say it's not too bad for a multicaliber lower so really it depends on what purpose you want the rifle to fill.

The Chiappa M6 Survival Rifle,

Produced by the Italian Chiappa, the M6 is a multicaliber firearm marketed by Chiappa as a survival rifle.  It features two over under barrels, one in .22 long rifle and one in 12 gauge. The forward grips feature rails to mount optics. It’s a breechloader only firing one round for each barrel, and the action breaks open with a lever mechanism. At face value this may seem like an interesting concept, but this weekend I had the opportunity to handle one in person, and I was less than impressed. The concept is that this is a handy survival rifle, it can shoot .22 long rifle for hunting small game, 12 gauge for flying creatures, small game, and when firing slugs for large game. In addition, Chiappa sells the “X-caliber chamber adapter set, basically a set of rifled adapters that fit into the chamber of the 12 gauge, thus allowing you to fire various calibers such as 9mm, .45acp, .44 magnum, and .357mag/.38 special. 

It’s small and compact, with only an 18.5 inch barrel and 34.6 inch overall length. It can fold up into a neat package, thus being able to fit in a backpack. Thus it’s supposedly a handy survival rifle for say a hiker deep in the wilderness, or an Alaskan bush pilot who can neat store it under the seat of an airplane. It’s a handy rifle that can fire many calibers, so whats not to love.

In reality this thing sucks. The workman ship on it is terrible. Now these kind of firearms aren’t my style, I like more wood, but again handling one in person you can’t help but feeling like its a big piece of crap. Everything seems shoddily made. Ergonomics are terrible. Its front heavy, the stock is very uncomfortable, everything on this gun is uncomfortable. It feels like when you fire it, it’s just going to fall apart, while blistering your hands and jarring your shoulder in the process.  What a piece of shit. Worse yet, many reviewers report mechanical issues and flaws. Look up reviews on Youtube and you find many gun, outdoor, and wilderness survival channels doing reviews and something goes wrong. Something breaks, the sights go out of alignment, the worst was an accidental discharge that occurred when the user closed the break action barrels, resulting in the firearm discharging. You can see in the video he did not have his finger on the trigger. (around 2.40 minute mark).

For a retail price of around $450-$500 I would expect better. Don’t buy this piece of crap.
