Still not one full chapter through this book and it already has so many good moments.
After the Jedi decide to take Dooku’s invite to parley, even though they all agree that it with 99,98% certainty is a trap, but still worth that 0,02% chance of ending the war earlier and saving countless lives, Yoda grumbles a bit to Mace about how it’s pretty to hard to hope that Dooku actually wants to come home, to which Mace is just so very sympathetic:
“Tough,” Mace said. “Nobody said being a Jedi Master was easy - even for you.”
Yoda grunted, glaring around at the Temple. “Pfeh.” All too wise you have become. Better before it was, when only Yoda was wise!” He glanced over at Mace and snickered.
Look at this cute moment with these two teasing each other and everything is nice and-
Mace would have laughed, too, if somewhere in the ring on Geonosis he hadn’t lost the knack.

First time meeting Scout, and darn she's adorable already.
A gasp came from the Padawan who had brought the water. Yoda glanced over, furrowing his face into a mass of stern wrinkles. Only those who knew him very well could have detected the light of amusement in his eye. "Little pitchers, big ears they have! Duties to attend to, have you not, Scout?"
"Not really," she said. "We've finished dinner, and there's nothing urgent I have to do before tomorrow. I mean, I was intending to practice in the training room, but that could–"
The girl flushed and stuttered to a halt under the massed gaze of the Jedi Masters. "Padawan Scout," Mace Windu said deliberately, "I am surprised to hear that you have this much free time, given the upcoming Apprentice Tournament. I hate to think you might be bored. Would you like me to find you something to do?"
The girl gulped. "No, Master. Not necessary. As you say– practice– I should..." She bowed and backed out of the room, sliding the door almost shut, until they could see only one green eye. "But if there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to–" Scout!"
She's got that Jedi instinct for good gossip 😂.
Also, I do 100% buy that Mace Windu is the type of guardian to tell kids that need to get out of the adult's way, that they can either remember that they had something to do, or he will come up with something for them. There is a certain vibe and he has it.

Ah, the school placement convo. Never an easy choice in real life, but I do believe I know how things will end up in this case (because it’s a story and because I’m spoiled on it).
Also, Yoda loves dragging his grandkids:
“Maybe not,” Jai Maruk said grimly. “But children do not always want what is best for them.”
“Nor do Jedi Masters,” said Yoda dryly.
Grandpa knows you did not eat your vegetables last night, and he’s not going to let you forget it!

(…) Yoda had newer Jedi to look after. Kenobi and, worse yet, young Skywalker.
Oh, yes, and wasn’t everyone watching him. Even Darth Sidious, with a gleam in his eye, mentioned the boy as strong in the Force. “Just a little piece in a great game,” his Master has said; but a stab of jealousy had gone through Dooku when Sidious lingered over the name. Skywalker, yes… The Force is strong in him.
The same Anakin Skywalker who, he had learned, had recently killed a clone of Count Dooku of Serenno. Poor foolish clone. Another changeling, another Dooku abandoned by his parents, left to be chopped up by some upstart Jedi butcher in the name of a corrupt Republic.
Dooku rather thought that if he weren’t so old and wise, he would probably hate this Anakin Skywalker. At least a little.
…suuuure Dooku, you’re just too old and wise for that. 😆

Darth Sidious had given him a curious look, then, one that passed through him like a flush of fever, a weakness inside. “Do you still love him?” his Master asked.
Dooku had laughed and braved it out. The idea was ridiculous.
“Ridiculously?” his Master had said, in that soft terrible voice of his. “I hardly think so.” And then, his voice like a honeyed poison, “A good student always loves his teacher.”
There was always a risk, talking with Sidious. Sometimes the conversation would go badly, and Dooku would fail to please somehow. It was a terrible thing, failing to please his Master
Dooku is the worst trash grandpa, but that’s apparently not gonna stop me from having a lot of feelings about him and the abusive dynamic he has trapped himself in.

Jedi Master Jai Maruk clambered out of the cockpit. (…) The chief technician regarded him gravely. “You promised you’d bring my ship back without a scratch, Master Maruk.”
Grim smile. “I lied.”
Another piece of evidence pointing to the Jedi just being the worst when it comes to bringing ships back without severe damage. Even when they have promised 😂

Master Yoda's wrinkled brow rose. "In a nerf's coat, this krayt dragon was."
