When I first saw a thumbnail(not sure if that's really the right word) for mortel on netflix I did think it was about a pair of lesbians. And while I wasn't right, I don't know if I can say that I'm particularly wrong.

i've lost count of how many times i've re-listened to tma at this point but in honor of me having forgotten most of the plot here we go again

Tagged by @bengiyo . I actually don't rewatch shows very often, or at least not the same ones every time, but here's some shows I've watched a lot of in no particular order.

Alien Biospheres. This is a YouTube series but I've watched it a lot. If you watched James Cameron's Avatar and don't care about the plot but would watch a documentary on how they designed the creatures + plants this is the webseries for you. If you like spec bio then I would also recommend Serina.

Cherry Magic. I write songs for fun and my life is too boring to be great inspiration, so most of them reference scenarios in shows I'm watching that I find funny or just stick with me for some reason. Kurosawa's personality inspired one of my best ones.

Coffee Prince. This got me into kdrama + so much of it still holds up. Like, remember how homophobic the 2000s were? That's a feat.

The King's Affection. This is like the best girl disguises as a guy kdrama since Coffee Prince, and I watched a lot of them before I figure out I was nonbinary. I was glued to my seat. My writing project @the-prince-is-not-a-woman was partially inspired by me watching this so many times.

Mortel. It's like this show was made for me. Vodun, found family, polyamorus subtext, mystery, despising someone but having noone else to turn to, trauma, comedy, banger music. It was made by Netflix though, so of course it was cancelled on a cliffhanger.

Power Rangers 2017. This film is objectively goofy but I love it so much. Billy was the first explicitly autistic character I think I saw ever, and he set my expectations for canonically autistic characters high.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Apart from being a good show, Attorney Woo is the only other character on my list of canonically autistic characters that I like, which is funny because both attorney Woo and Billy were played by allistic actors.

The Path. I enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 but I've rewatched season 3 many times for my baby Caleb. I talked about a pastor's son and he's like the perfect example. If the show hadn't tragically been cancelled I would have loved to see what they did with his character, because after leaving his family for his boyfriend and by extension his boyfriend's daddy's apocalypse adjacent cult (which is a positive if you can believe it) socially speaking he was essentially in the same position he started off in, minus worrying about homophobia. He could have blossomed or spiralled, who knows. That's quality side character creation. This show also inspired the list "cheating on your girlfriend with your wife" which has to be the best of my lists of niche tropes.

Triage: time travel and time loop stories can so easily swerve into being terrible when there isn't enough thought put into the time travel mechanic but when they're good they're really good.

Shelter 2007: so many of the queer films I watched as a teenager were depressing, I could have given up on ql entirely if I didn't watch this heartwarming film.

Honourable mentions:

Be My Favourite. It finished airing literally 2 months ago so it really hasn't had time to gain the status of old reliable but yeah. I've watched episode 1 probably 10 times at this point, because I would pore over the whole show waiting for the next episode. I was writing essays.

Nowhere Boys: I love forced proximity + conspirationality. It's one of the reasons I love Mortel. It's a quality teen drama.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Chat Noir, aka Miraculous Ladybug. This show is my Riverdale. It's ridiculous and I don't recommend it and I can't watch the english dub because I'd cringe too much so I watch it in French, but I started watching when I was like 15 so I'm locked in forever. It keeps dragging me back.

hey - any good tv show recs?

tv is incredibly dry right now (to me), so I can only recommend shows from the last couple of years.

if you like coming of age and school settings, try heartbreak high on netflix (season 2 is coming this year). I think it's really well written actually, maybe not best when binged because there's a lot of foreshadowing and attention to detail.

if you like supernatural stories, I can recommend trickster (canadian show, originally on cbc), got cancelled after one season though. will still make pr for it without getting paid, no questions asked. also in the same vein, mortel on netflix. one of my faves of all time. very fucked up but so good. we love good polyamory.

also, grease: rise of the pink ladies is surprisingly good (ignore any trailers and bad faith reviews you might come across. it's on paramount (?) right now but I wouldn't know since I pirate literally everything), so if you like musicals, great choreographies, and feminism, this might be for you too.

that's pretty much every show I can think of at the moment, verdict still pending on some others but... yeah. I'm not really impressed with this year's television so far, going to be honest.

[Ed. note: This interview was conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP went into effect.] Un autre type d'Armageddon s'est produit dans la dernière saison de Good Omens. Ce n'est pas une épopée mondiale, comme la saison dernière, mais personnelle. Malgré leurs six millénaires de plaisanteries et de liens, l'ange jovial Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) et son compagnon démoniaque maussade Crowley (David Tennant) n'ont pas été en mesure d'admettre qu'ils sont un match fait au paradis - ou en enfer, ou Terre. Le nouveau matériel source de 1990 écrit par Neil Gaiman (le showrunner et écrivain) et feu Terry Pratchett leur a accordé une fin heureuse au Ritz, comme reproduit dans la saison 1. Mais juste au moment où vous pensez que la saison 2 leur offre un chapitre heureux de la vie au-delà du matériel source, les deux anges trouvent leur relation à la croisée des chemins. C'est un résultat à la fois doux-amer et déconcertant, mais approprié pour le couple, aussi blessant qu'une épée flamboyante empalée dans le cœur. Dieu (exprimé par Frances McDormand) ne raconte plus, à part un camée vocal dans l'épisode 3 en tant que voix distante. Ainsi, Crowley et Aziraphale possèdent essentiellement le récit – leur histoire d'amour – pour eux seuls. Dans le cœur de ses téléspectateurs mortels, Crowley et Aziraphale agissent comme des maris ineffables. Mais comme les personnages de Jane Austen, ils sont lents à saisir la romance qui se cache derrière leur amitié. Cela est vrai même si les gens soulignent qu'ils travaillent à nouveau très étroitement en aidant l'archange amnésique Gabriel à se réfugier dans la librairie d'Aziraphale. Dans la finale, la résolution hunky-dory est contrecarrée par l'arrivée de Metatron (Derek Jacobi), l'entité encore plus élevée qui sert Dieu. Impressionné par la façon dont Aziraphale a géré l'affaire Gabriel, il offre à Aziraphale une promotion surprenante au paradis : assumer l'ancien poste d'Archange Suprême de Gabriel et mener les projets futurs de Dieu, annulant ainsi l'excommunication d'Aziraphale. Adoucissant cet accord aux yeux d'Aziraphale, Metatron ajoute cet avantage professionnel : Aziraphale pourrait exercer le pouvoir de restaurer le statut d'ange de Crowley et l'employer comme commandant en second. Aziraphale est fou de joie, mais Crowley l'est moins. Inutile de dire que Crowley déchaîne la mer Rouge des sentiments (à sa manière sobre où il grogne pour s'empêcher de renverser quelque chose de trop séveux). « Nous n'avons pas besoin du paradis, nous n'avons pas besoin de l'enfer. Ils sont toxiques ! Nous devons nous éloigner d'eux [to Alpha Centauri]. Sois juste un nous », parvient-il à dire. Crowley finalise son propos en plantant un Big Damn Kiss sur Aziraphale, comme pour crier : « Espèce d'idiot, c'est ce que tu abandonnes ! Suite au rejet sévère d'Arizaphale (il ne peut dire "Je te pardonne" qu'à travers son choc), Crowley sort en trombe de la librairie. La querelle les laisse tous les deux assez découragés. Mais même si vous faites partie de l'équipe Crowley ici (je le suis), la décision a du sens pour le personnage d'Aziraphale. Lorsque l'occasion se présente, il est vraisemblablement facile pour Aziraphale d'être ramené dans la "vérité" et la "lumière" du paradis. Dans une interview menée avant le SAG-AFTRA, Sheen a supposé que la décision d'Aziraphale d'accepter la promotion faisait "partie de cette recherche de ce qui est la bonne chose à faire". Aux yeux avides de l'ange, avoir l'autorité à l'intérieur du ciel lui donne plus d'accès à la « bonne chose ». Il pourrait être l'ange qui plaide plus ardemment pour l'humanité. Il doit être celui qui dénoncera l'anéantissement des enfants. Ainsi, tant qu'Aziraphale a accès à l'autorité céleste, il pourrait empêcher les pires scénarios comme l'incident de Job.

Réfléchissez également à la réunion de la saison 1 lorsque Aziraphale a tenté de déposer une suggestion auprès de Dieu, seulement pour être brisé que le ciel ait choisi la guerre plutôt que la paix au nom de la « victoire » ; son expression impuissante à l'époque en dit long. S'il parvient à remodeler les politiques du ciel, il sera mieux équipé pour protéger les mortels. Photo : Mark Mayence/Prime Video Mais comme Tennant le voit, Crowley voulait plus pour eux deux personnellement. "Je suppose que ce que Crowley apprend d'Aziraphale, c'est que le chemin de moindre résistance n'est pas toujours celui à emprunter", déclare Tennant. En tant qu'ange déchu "qui a déambulé vaguement vers le bas", Crowley ne peut pas simplement être aspiré et réassimilé dans un paradis qui supprime ses doutes et ces "damnées questions" qui harcèlent Metatron. Rejeter l'offre d'Aziraphale est sa façon de prendre position – « bien qu'en vain », selon les mots de Tennant. S'il y a quelque chose que Crowley pourrait également comprendre implicitement, un endroit toxique comme le paradis pourrait tout aussi bien coopter les talents d'Aziraphale – sa relation avec l'humanité et la Terre – pour ses propres missions bureaucratiques. Un motif majeur de Good Omens est la représentation du bien et du mal dans les tons de gris. À travers les éons, « bien » et « juste » sont des concepts qui changent à jamais de forme pour Crowley et Aziraphale. Bien avant que l'enfer et le ciel ne les expulsent, ils ont vu, expérimenté et commis les gris moraux parmi l'humanité. La finale de la saison 2 résume parfaitement les possibilités dramatiques de leurs différentes positions : Aziraphale voit tout ce qu'il peut résoudre avec un accès institutionnel divin, tandis que Crowley veut s'en laver les mains, ne s'accrocher qu'à Aziraphale et fuir ensemble vers Alpha Centauri. Mais il n'y a pas d'escapade de rêve à Alpha Centauri. Ce qui reste est un gouffre qui s'élargit entre les deux anges qui se retrouvent de part et d'autre : le retour provisoire d'Aziraphale au paradis et Crowley seul sur Terre. Cela dit, l'espoir erre dans les limbes. Il y a une promesse (comme on le voit dans les résolutions de l'une ou l'autre des autres sous-intrigues romantiques de la saison 2) qu'ils pourraient se réunir de manière romantique. Symboliquement, Crowley jette un coup d'œil aux deux mortels (avec leur romance en attente) seuls dans leurs magasins respectifs. Il s'est résigné à la distance entre lui et Aziraphale – pour l'instant, du moins. Mais peut-être que leur voyage d'introspection séparé est d'autant plus essentiel pour leur future reconnexion. Ils doivent se trouver avant de pouvoir être ensemble. Si Good Omens obtient une saison 3 et qu'Aziraphale conçoit la seconde venue sous les ordres de Metatron, nous verrons ce qu'il faudra aux deux êtres divins pour réparer le pont. Pour mon pari, Aziraphale doit peut-être à Crowley la danse "J'avais tort". La saison 2 de Good Omens est maintenant sur Prime Video.

Okay, so by the end of season 2 the protagonist has gotten sprayed in the face TWICE by wesen people who spit a contaminant (the Cracher Mortel and the guy who was like a Tsetse botfly).  In both cases, he knew he was going up against wesen that did that.  Why the heck did he never invest in some PPE?

(Maybe the show was predicting the majority attitudes of heterocis men during the pandemic?)
