This is brand new artwork for the Mortasheen RPG core rulebook but I didn't spend two days on it to not share it with the general public. All "bug" type monsters in the setting are arthropod-human hybrids, hence the floppy limbs making this monster even more walrus-like than a normal maggot, while the rings of teeth and invertible body are exaggerations of how a maggot really works. Up close it's honestly pretty rough. Rather than killing myself, the teeth are mostly just blobs of color with no inks, and alternating patches of blurred shading/highlighting do the rest, looking great for the resolution it'll eventually be printed at.

The full size art (over 4k pixel width), original PSD file, more sketches, comparisons to real biology and more detailed explanation of the design are all available to $5 patreon patrons:

If you're just tuning in to the Mortasheen setting, human-fly hybrids count as an entirely different monster species; metamorphosis is lost in the process!

Here are 6 more fan-monsters I made for the upcoming Mortasheen TTRPG! Now I hit my goal of 12 monsters!
Info on each monster under the cut:
Somniasma: A Botanical that spews sooty pollen that causes lethargy, drowsiness and potentially death. It buries the bodies of its prey (dead or merely unconscious) and plants itself on top, absorbing their nutrients over roughly a week. Its pollen is particularly effective against Wormbrains, its favoured prey.
Pseudodder: A small Botanical monster that digs its roots into the flesh of prey and drinks their blood. It can analyze the blood of other Botanicals and sees itself as a true blood connosieur, but can't tell the difference between the blood of other monster classes at all. It refuses to use its weakening venom on Botanicals as to not "spoil the taste".
Ruffdruff: A simple, omnivorous Bioconstruct covered in stinging hairs. They live in "troops" of a mated pair and their numerous offspring, using effective teamwork to make up for their individual weakness. Unusually for swarming monsters, they care a lot about all of their troopmates and are known to grieve when one dies.
Mycotope: A fungoid Botanical that feeds on radiation, generally growing around a radioactive object that is encased in a leathery shell. While anxious and passive, if pushed too far it will defend itself with a cloud of spores charged with alpha radiation.
Oothecoil: An eel-like Bioconstruct with toxic blood that lives in the depths of Mortasheen's sewers and other dark, murky waters. Female Oothecoil grow eggs on their tails, and unviable eggs are filled with blood to create toxic bombs for defense and hunting. The monsters mate for life and the smaller males will try to ferociously defend their mates while they carry viable eggs and cannot lob blood bombs.
Lumenymph: A rare Warped monster that feeds on heat using the anomalous light of its luminous, starlike head which serves as its "true body". It keeps glowing even after death, slowly absorbing more heat to regenerate. Lumenymph seem to grow increasingly restless and anxious as time goes on until they float off into space one night, never to return.

Mortasheen mutant generator doodle. If I had an extra eye and a pair of tentacles for every time this thing got me out of an art rut, I'd be a handsome devil.
I took a stab at doing the Mortasheen style but I had to work on this in tiny little time allotments, mostly late at night and while playing DnD with coworkers, so it's a bit half-assed. It was a lot of fun though.
Generator by @bogleech, can be found here.

I sure do love having to design a character with eyes in their chest in a program that does not like the idea of its characters having no necks
Tumblr media
But it looks good enough from head-on I think
Tumblr media
Just, um. Don't look at him from the side
For anyone curious btw this is my Shade OC based on Jonathan Wojcik's Mortasheen universe and they're supposed to be (visually) based on Other Bobinsky from Coraline , specifically that one part where it's just a bunch of empty clothes puppeted by rats. That's how he moves around.

This is my mortasheen character Lady Ombré she’s a shade biologist with a passion for perfume… formerly a sewer cleaner, when she encountered a strange Persephume, her life changed forever and she now runs a perfume company. Her focus is on changing the biology of monsters to make them smell nice, creating scents such as Eyeball Rot, Fragant Corpse and Flower-Stuffed Ectoparasite.
(Mortasheen is by @bogleech !! Go check it out ^_^)

A collection of Darkest Dungeon character concepts, all inspired by mortasheen by @bogleech - although pretty loosely inspired lmao.
Zombie Spawn - A failed necromantic experiment, she is kept continually alive by her broken idol. In combat, she heals others at the cost of her own health until she is returned to a violent mess of offal.
Unknown - A normal human, as all humans can it is able to move around and move other people. So normal, it is, that enemies are stunned and debuffed.
Devilbird - A holy homunculus crafted by the church. Throughout combat his direct attacks are weak, but sets up a deadly riposte as it parries blasphemous attacks.
Biomecha - Falling from the stars, these abberant serpents were forced to cooperate within the confined of an archaic suit of armour. In combat, they shift in strengths as one reliquishes control to another.

Another concept for my mortasheenXundertale crossover AU. This is frisk and monster kid(forgot about him because he dosen't have much fanart despite being important to the plot) Wonder how their dynamic will work now. Maybe frisk should rescue the creature from undyne.. I dunno
Tumblr media
worked on undyne design taking for more an assassin take rather than the original knight design

Wutzat is the newest Mortasheen monster I've done for the rpg book. It's a concept I've doodled for years, but I wasn't sure exactly what its gimmick should be. In the end I went with actually no gimmick; it's exactly what you see, just creepy arms in a bag. No weird powers or anything. Now it already feels like a basic mascot creature the setting should've had all along, like its Goomba.

Here are some fan-monsters I made for the upcoming Mortasheen TTRPG. Gonna make a homebrew monster pack when it comes out with the final ruleset. Info on each under the cut.
Meteogle: A Bioconstruct made with samples from Warped monsters. Can emit tractor beams from its eyes to pull prey and enemies closer, or to slowly drag itself towards heavier objects, such as the moon. Normally solitary, but has an inherent longing towards Warped monsters, who it considers to be the only ones that "get it".
Charcaw: A Bioconstruct with a powerful flame-breath and the ability to spew flammable bile from its tongue. Acts like a dragon, staking out a wide territory and resting upon a hoard of charred bones, garbage or other items. Will fight larger and stronger creatures without fear, but becomes anxious when faced with a smaller opponent, believing that only a smaller creature may slay it.
Platyplast: A small Wormbrain composed of a silly, teetering little avian host and a pair of protective, parental planaria. The worms can secrete regenerative compounds to heal allies, and feed liquified food to their host, which in turn can actually process the nutrients for the whole group.
Parasquirm: A fairly simple Bioconstruct with a stinging probiscis that afflicts opponents with a potent paralytic venom. When threatened, it pretends to flee before trying to land a cheap-shot sting, fleeing for real when its foe is paralyzed and unable to give chase.
Skittershatter: A dangerous Bioconstruct that grows glass thorns on its abdomen and flings them at targets with surprising accuracy. These thorns are brittle and shatter in the victim's flesh, painfully slicing them from the inside with every movement. It enjoys pranking and terrorizing other creatures in its territory.
Braincaster: A large Biomecha that acts as a mobile psychic relay and amplifier. It holds two brains, one for its psionic abilities and one for a secondary processing and fine-tuning role. Although its host brains are suppressed and hold no conscious thought, their latent personalities may briefly bleed into the monster's behaviour on occasion, something it sees as highly embarrassing.

A new Mortasheen Fanmon, either named Knucklcuster (Gn. Custer from the civil war) or Knucklcluster (those spikes can be fired off like missiles)
Probably a Bioconstruct, might become a Joke with some modifications

In news of "Title is not the smartest at deciding how to spend their time," I made a collection of mood music for @bogleech's Mortasheen setting on Open Game Art!
It's perfect background for any tabletop session, and since it's all under CC0 or CC-BY, you're free to use it if you're doing; say; a TTRPG podcast...
