Stacey Monahan - Bat Out Of Hell Cast Appreciation 2023 (34)

Stayce Monahan played the role of Mordema (swing) and covered the role of Valkyrie in the UK Tour production of Bat Out Of Hell.

FUN FACT: Stacey joined the cast only a couple of days before the tour opened in Manchester. Someone must have decided they needed an extra swing and she was on the train up to Manchester the day after!

Had a fun day at Bat Out Of Hell! Today I tried a bit of an elaborate makeup job based on the ensemble character Mordema, played by the amazing Emily Benjamin. Luckily she liked it! :D

For those unfamiliar with the show and characters let me rave about it at you for days and send you all the bootlegs let me give a bit of background. Mordema is a bi immortal, trapped at the age of 18 forever due to some genetic issues possibly caused by the disaster that split the whole of New York away from the mainland USA and sent it off to sea. She’s part of a gang of these ‘freezers’ who fight against the tyranny of the city/island’s dictator. Also, she was raised by wolves. Because everything else in the regular backstory wasn’t metal enough.

Do recommend checking out her makeup tutorial for the character, which prompted this!

Trying to talk about Bat stuff with people who don't keep up with Bat is so unnecessarily complicated because Bat is just Like That.

Like, ok so there used to be this character called Blake. And then they got rid of him and had a character called Valkyrie instead who sort of did the same role even though all the lines were mixed up. But Valkyrie was actually in the show before then, just as an ensemble role. Then they had her as a supporting role except it was a totally different role with a different costume. And since then we've not had a Blake.

But ok yeah I see why you're confused. No we still don't have a Blake, we just have an ensemble character with a different name who has exactly the same costumes as Blake had. Along with someone who almost exactly has the old ensemble Valkyrie costume. Not to be confused with the the person actually playing Valkyrie. So when I said hey Blake and Valkyrie are on the rock together, yeah it was actually Astroganger and Mordema. Blake technically isn't in the show and Valkyrie is someone else. Yeah I can see where you got confused, but everyone just decided that is Blake now.

❛ you know, you’ve never been a coward, dem. ❜ she’s unsure what name to call her, now ( is she mordema or demitria? idly, blue wonders when those became two different people in her head ), and she consider herself lucky that the nickname applies to them both. they’ve all changed since the explosions, and not just in the obvious sense, but it seems to blue like something must be targeting her, considering the two biggest changes she’s noticed have been in her two best friends. obviously what’s happening to ledoux isn’t his fault in the slightest, but — it still happened, as awful as she feels thinking it.

and then there’s demi — or dema, now. as subtle the change, it’s still there. she seems almost happier, now, and blue can understand that. she’s away from her mom, finally, and she knows first hand how liberating it can feel to finally feel like, for the first time, you’re in charge of your life. but there’s more changes than that happening in her best friend, and she’s worried about just how far she’s planning to go. the two of them together have always been impulsive, always tried to be as fearless as possible, but there’s something … wild in her friend’s eyes now, and she’s not quite sure what to make of it. and now blue finds herself worried that she’s done it on purpose. dema isn’t trying to erase demi from her personality, is she?
