World of our own chapter 8
Title: Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside?
"Hey Derieri!" Annie had said when she'd come around. Monspeet had been sent out on an errand which would have been Annie's. Derieri didn't know this, but it was his way over paying her back for the ribbon.
"Hey." She answered, a tiny bit nervous. She... Annie had said she could chat with her about things if she needed to.
"So... I noticed Monspeet was being... he's been acting strange." Annie gave her a confused look.
"How so? Since I've known you... he's always acted like that." It was Derieri's turn to give a confused look.
"He's always been protective and stuff... but it's just... more now."
"More?"
"He... keeps giving me compliments and stuff. And holding hands. And... we cuddle a lot more."
"Aw... that's so sweet."
"It's... strange."
"He's being sweet." Annie's words made her change her tune.
"I'm trying to work out why he's doing that." Derieri scratched her head.
"Has he kissed you?" What? Why would he...? Ick! But... I would have sworn I felt something soft brush my forehead last night.
"I... think he kissed my forehead when we were lying in bed together. But... I might have dreamed that up; since, you know, I was going to sleep."
"We'll go with no then. But... if he did kiss you as you say he did... wow, does he need to say something."
"Like what?"
"You can not be serious." Annie gave her an incredulous look which made Derieri's cheeks heat.
"Let's pretend I am." Derieri knew she was serious; but Annie seemed to think she couldn't be.
"Derieri, the way Monspeet's acting with you... is how my father acts with my mother." It took her a moment to process that.
"He acts like your husband. You know; bringing you flowers, helping you with chores, cuddling, hand-holding... particularly if he kissed your forehead. My mother has told me my father always kisses her forehead when they go to bed together."
"So... what's that mean then? To be husbands?" Annie grinned and she knew she'd said something wrong.
"Husband and wife, actually. If he's your husband, you're his wife. And it means you're a married couple."
"What's married? Demons don't do 'married'." Annie gave her a sad look.
"You don't... it's a vow made by a man and woman who love each other... to each other... that they'll spend the rest of their lives together."
"Sounds like a pact."
"What's a pact?" Annie asked. Derieri wasn't quite sure. Rajine might have known... but she couldn't exactly ask her older sister.
"When a demon likes another demon... they ask the demon if they want to court. After they've been together a while... if they are compatible... they choose to make a pact with each other."
"It sounds a lot like marriage, actually." Annie grinned.
"A man asks a woman if he can court her... and if they realise they are compatible... the man proposes to the woman and they get married." That does sound kind of like a pact... Derieri thought. And she now recalled what else Annie had said.
"Wait... marriage is between a couple who love each other. What's that got to do with me and Monspeet?"
"No he doesn't. Love is... something different." Derieri knew her cheeks had flushed from Annie's words.
"From what I've seen... Monspeet loves you. With all of his heart."
"He's... he can't!" She refused to believe that. He couldn't love her, could he? She was reckless and... it was his job to look after her because Rajine couldn't.
"Let's see... He brings you flowers; all of which mean love or devotion or affection, by the way." She felt her cheeks heating. The flowers meant... that was stupid kiddie stuff, right?
"His gaze is always fond whenever he looks at you... and I've caught my father with a similar expression when he's looking at my mother! He thinks you're beautiful; even if he can't say it in those exact words, he nodded when I asked him." Derieri was sure her cheeks had to be red, possibly her whole face. How could she have not seen this?
"I'm... not sure what to do with that."
"That's just what I could see. How he feels for real... he'll have to tell you. It might be different for demons. If he was a human... that's a man in love." Derieri shook her head; deciding it had to be different for them. Monspeet couldn't love her; not with how much trouble she got him into.
"Thanks for the help." She decided to say. She... she couldn't talk to him about this. But Annie had gave her some things to think about.
"You're welcome. Glad I could be of assistance." Annie told her with a soft smile.
"What's it mean when your eyes want to admire a guy's chest?" Annie made a squeaky noise.
"It means you think they're hot. And... I agree with you. He's definitely hot." Derieri grinned. Well... he does play around with hellfire, what else could he be but hot?
"Are you talking about Monspeet?" Annie whispered with a giggle.
"You know I like his body." Annie nodded, grinning wider.
"How far down do your eyes go?" Derieri looked confused.
"Um... right down to his feet?"
"Bet they linger round his middle, right?" Why would they...? oh... oh!
"I do not ogle his sex or his butt!" Annie started laughing and Derieri realised the other girl was joking. Unfortunately for her the door opened right then.
"Who are we talking about?" Her cheeks flamed, Annie's quickly matching. He might have heard that... would definitely have heard her shout.
"Oh... no one in particular." Annie lied. Derieri nodded in agreement. Like hell was she telling him they were gossiping about him and how hot they both thought he was. Thankfully, he didn't pry.
"I did the errand for you." Monspeet told Annie, who nodded.
"Thank you." Derieri then felt his hands on her head and stilled. She felt something get tucked behind her ear. Annie grinned widely at whatever it was.
"It looks nice on you." He told her, making her ponder what it was.
"He tucked a daisy behind your ear." Annie indicated towards the vase. Derieri noticed that there were daisies in the vase which meant... Does he... know what they mean? She pondered. She had it in her head that he might believe that kiddie stuff. She didn't. Flowers were flowers.
"Thanks for inviting me round for a chat, Derieri. If you ever need a girl to talk to... I'm willing if I'm free." Derieri nodded in agreement.
"Oh! It's supposed to be lovely clear skies tonight. Would you two like to come up to the hill and look at the stars?" Annie suggested with a grin.
"Sure." Monspeet answered. Derieri decided why not; but she'd have to remember it got cold out late on. Or... she thought to herself, she could forget and use it as an excuse to have Monspeet hold her. She'd liked how that had felt the first time.
AN: This chapter's title is from 'Unconditionally' by Katy Perry and it's fitting; since he certainly does love her unconditionally.
