I don't think I have share this in Tumblr, but about the Senpai been racist stuff I have made now a own head canon that I want to share here cause it seems that some people in Twitter liked this take I have on Senpai.
As some of you know, Senpai whole art style was drawn by Moawling, and if you look at the way they draw Senpai and how Phantom Arcade draws him, he gives vibes for me of two completely different persons, so I have made this take, Phantom Senpai's design is the full definition of someone you could hate, Moawling Senpai's design is a closet homosexual that he can have sometimes anger issues but that's due to his AI code making him be "perfect.' plus the pixel Senpai is the one whe mainly draw all the time!

Friday Night Funkin: Guys’ Night Out
Tumblr media
Behold, the sequel pic to Girls' Night Out, this time featuring some cool male characters! All of these guys are members of the Anti-Daddy Dearest Force. The Anti-Daddy Dearest Force (or A.D.D.F. for short) is an organization of people (mostly males) who fell victim to the evildoings of Daddy Dearest, and are now plotting revenge against him to make the demonic ex-rockstar pay for what he has done to them. When they're not busy thinking of ways to get rid of Daddy Dearest, they talk about the problems they've been facing and give each other a bit of advice from their own experiences. It's kind of like group therapy, in some way.   While his girlfriend Carol is out on the dancefloor with her friends, Whitty has decided to sneak into the club with some of his friends from the A.D.D.F.. All of them have their own ideas of having fun at the club on their minds.   Senpai only wants to check out some of the beautiful girls in the club, but the other guys think he focuses way too much on flirting with girls (which is something he can't help because he's an AI from a dating simulator game), and want him to hang out and rap with them. Senpai thinks that rapping with the other guys might help him show all the ladies in the club just how cool he is. Garcello is with the guys because he brought Annie to the club with him, so while he's just chilling and watching the guys rap against each other, he's also keeping a careful watch on Annie, who's at the bar. He's making sure she doesn't overdo it on the drinks, especially the "Liquid" that she's so addicted to. Everyone knows what happens when Annie gets drunk, and it's not a pretty sight.   Tabi and A.G.O.T.I. want to show off their incredible singing talents, hoping to step back into the spotlight again after they fell off the radar thanks to Daddy Dearest. However, Tabi isn't so sure if people will recognize him as the same person now that he's an invisible man with a goat skull and skeleton hands. Thankfully, being his best friend, A.G.O.T.I. reassures him that his fans will still love him despite his intimidating-looking appearance. Ever since Salty escaped the game machine he was trapped in, he wants to catch up on all the fun he missed in the real world throughout the years he was gone. Luckily, he agreed to come to the club with the other boys to test out his rapping skills, and it seems like he's still got it. On weekends, Yukichi likes to take a break from patrolling space and come to Earth to see what kinds fun things await him on the planet. He especially enjoys going to the club. He likes the music, atmosphere, and all the friendly Earthlings who usually hang out there. He thinks it's a great way to interact with people who aren't from his planet. NOTE: Despite being also a victim of Daddy Dearest, Berzerk is not present because he just won't care about partying at a club anyway. Pico, Ayana, Rosie, and Shirakami are also not present because they aren't members of the Anti-Daddy Dearest Force. Yes, they were hired by Daddy Dearest to get rid of Boyfriend, but that doesn't mean they were victims to his evildoings. Senpai belongs to PhantomArcade and Moawling Whitty belongs to SockClip and NateAnim8 Garcello belongs to Atsuover and Rageminer Tabi belongs to Homskiy Salty belongs to Tsuraran A.G.O.T.I. belongs to SugarRatio Yukichi belongs to Pierogii

newgrounds, 2021
been looking at newgrounds again (mostly in the context of researching modern development of animated porn, which has become a bit of a special interest curiosity since animation night 69, but more on that another time)
its reputation as hosting a lot of edgy juvenile content is certainly not unearned, and even now you don’t have to go far to recognise the presumption that the audience are white, hetero guys even if i suspect the site’s demographic has changed a lot...
...but i gotta admit that compared to other video hosting sites like youtube, it does (in its current iteration) seem to be structured in a really positive way to encourage remixing and collaboration. notably on collaborative projects it can give all the authors equal billing - take this animation jam collab for example which has an arm length list of contributors so you can easily go and see what else they’ve been on, the database supports that kind of lookup easily. and that seems to foster e.g. taking someone’s song created for the portal and creating an animation to go with it, or crediting a voice actor, that kind of thing.
alongside that - no doubt one caused the other - there seems to be a very healthy attitude towards inspiration and imitation. apparently it was recently ‘madness day’ which means highlighting a bunch of imitators of madness combat - it makes the lineage very clear and seems to recognise that nothing is created in a vacuum, but rather celebrates that, instead of willingly building some kind of kafkaesque copyright bot regime.
(that raises the question of how ad money is handled. it seems like they set up a system of ‘revenue sharing’ about a decade ago, and in the case of those collaborative videos, the proceeds can be divided up among all collaborators. this page mentions a ‘Newgrounds license’ which specifies that material uploaded to the site is available for non-commerical re-use, which would not extend to use with revenue sharing. as far as i can tell, this refers to a default license you can choose when uploading an audio file, though the site supports other options including creative commons. whether this has changed since is not reported on the wiki, though i presume it has now shaken out somehow that there is a standard way to cut in musicians and other contributors.)
the curated front page which means it feels a lot more ‘shared context’ than a site like youtube; sure it does mean the site is shaped heavily by the tastes of the curators (tom fulp et al) but you like instantly get an impression when you look at the site that there is a kind of ‘community identity’, so you get the creators of e.g. the devs of Friday Night Funkin’ declaring quite firmly in their two million dollar kickstarter that the game’s home is on Newgrounds:
This isn't a game by suits or posers, this is a team of artists who met on Newgrounds looking to make the dream Newgrounds game they've always wanted. And we're not alone, already we've gotten help from other long time talents such as SrPelo, JohnnyUtah, Moawling, and many many others.
apparently ppl still say ‘suits and posers’ in 2021? anyway i know a lot of nsfw artists in particular went there after the ban on this site. so that notion of an artist community seems to be the site’s ‘identity’ now that flash is dead and various tools can be listed on each entry.
the other curiosity is the heavily gamified rating system. at one point all user-submitted content sites had that kind of 1-5 star rating system, but tended to gradually back off it because people would only tend to leave 1 or 5 star ratings so they just kept a +/- meter. newgrounds seems to put a great deal more stock in its rating system, which involves a fairly complex system of vote weighting designed to encourage users to vote on uploads in the initial ‘judgement’ period. for whatever reason, this is still a seemingly treasured part of the site. (in practice it seems that any project with reasonable effort behind it will breeze by into the 4+ score range, beyond which comparisons are pretty much meaningless.)
and now a quick detour into history...
you can find absolutely bizarre lines in the site’s wiki; for example, while reporting on a user who stabbed his neighbour and a policeman then emailed a suicide note to newgrounds describing his rather detailed racist fantasy of life in prison, we learn...
After LiveCorpse's death, a number of tributes were made for him. One movie called "Livecorpse - A Tribute" has a score of 4.19/5.[2]
On the wiki’s history page we learn of actual and attempted school shooters who used the site, though nowadays I suspect those guys are more likely to hang out with the hardcore nazis on 8chan rather than a site that’s increasingly styling itself as a home for artists. But for example we learn that Jeff Weise, who killed nine people and then himself in 2005, posted two videos on the site; again we find a... curious tone to the reporting
The song in the animation is EVANESCENCE - Even In Death, which fits well with the creepy plot.
along with his blam/protect and voting levels. later another user announced his intent to carry out an arson attack and was promptly doxxed and dobbed in to the police by other site users.
this school shooter history is interesting because one of the earliest flash games ever created, Pico’s School (1999), made when Fulp would have been 21 years old, is set during a school shooting in which the player assumes the role of Pico, a character who would become one of the site’s enduring icons celebrated annually on Pico Day. the game’s message is simultaneously very explicit and completely confused. Pico, a young white boy and our figure of identification, is not the instigator of the shooting, but the player is invited (by affordances and achievements) to casually execute not just the shooters but bystanders such as the shitting guy and the traumatised girl, flood the sinks, etc.; it certainly revels in the aesthetic of a social structure breaking down even if it disavows it at the end.
the goth shooters (who are all basically patterned off metal gear bosses: psychic guy, ninja...) initially claim they are against the fascism (rather, ‘facism’) of the American education system, invoke the slogan of a German industrial band, and later display swastikas and later call themselves the gestapo. but ultimately it seems to come down to some kind of music scene posturing thing: the “goth” villain’s criticism of Pico is “you had to express individuality in forms other than your clothing”; Pico admonishes him for not making music or “a crazy website where you can kill pop icons”. at the end, a racist joke has Pico pull his gun on caricatured “kids from the ghetto” brought in to replace the dead students.
on such material (and Tom Fulp’s other early games like ‘club a seal’) is a whole subculture built, apparently. anyway to the surprise of probably nobody he’s totally a chaser lmao
Tumblr media
but that was many years ago. what is Newgrounds for today?
of course it is still a place for indie animators to post their stuff. parodies still tend to fill most of the front page, and there’s plenty in the vein of madness (stick fights seem to have vanished though); but where the work on the site is truly pulling away from its roots is the rise more experimental works we saw on Animation Nights 10 and 48 - sure, plenty of those animators don’t post on NG, but some like Gooseworx and JoelG do seem to find their primary audience on Newgrounds. There’s also an increasing move towards quite substantial anime-styled short films such as False Memories (by Extra Terrible, a small Texan animation studio), which would be unthinkable back when I was using the site. Even the shorter comedy animations or brief experimental works tend to show a pretty solid level of figure drawing and compositing
but it’s when we start verging towards the nsfw end that things start to get really impressive. whether that’s blatantly riffing on me! me! me! or well, the stuff you find when you log in and activate the adults only category (which really deserves its own analysis because there sure is some Gender Shit going on amid all the meticulous application of animation principles lol). which makes sense ig? an elaborate war ptsd drama short film like Mickey’s Descent Into Madness can be uploaded to NG and youtube just as easily and find an audience on both sites, but the nsfw stuff really has only one place to go for specifically animated content so it’s going to be a little insular perhaps, and at least ideally that’s going to lead to cross-pollination and encouragement and the healthy kind of competition.
though that said there seems to be a phenomenon where some animators such as Derpixon create films where (much like certain old school hentai such as Yasuomi Umetsu’s Mezzo Forte) the sex scenes are entirely dispensable to the narrative, so they’ll upload a nsfw version on NG and a sfw version on YT - yet these sex scenes are also clearly where the most attention is lavished animation-wise, with a passion shining through even quite tropey hetero scenes that makes a very striking contrast if watched right after Heavy Metal lol. i wanna write more about this, especially the way gendered bodies figure into it.
the last few years, we’re seeing a lot of people teaching themselves to animate inspired by sakuga MADs and the rise of non-Japanese animators in anime like Bahi JD, Weilin Zhang and Vercreek, and a lot of that seems to take place on Discord (e.g. Hyun’s Dojo, though mostly a stick figure animation community, fostered Telepurte). but it also seems that kind of ethos has spread back to Newgrounds, if crosspollinating with the site’s existing graffiti-influenced 2D stylisation. I definitely think it’s worth keeping an eye on, and increasingly convinced that once I have something substantial and polished enough to be worth showing, it will be worth posting my own stuff there as well as yt. especially since the site is so much more relaxed in terms of content restrictions, for better or worse. they certainly haven’t disavowed their past as the site you go to shoot osama bin laden and watch stick figures kick the shit out of each other or foamy the squirrel, but they do seem, on average, to have matured a bit? even if the likes of e.g. Madness is just committing ever harder to operator masculinity lol
there’s also, and I know much less about this, clearly a whole community of voice actors who work on web animation - many of them extremely talented.
the visual styles seen on Newgrounds are also of note I think - a very American-animation approach to caricature cross-pollinating with graffiti, anime, the most po[ular works, and the affordances of Flash. I would be fascinated to see if we can find any links between early NG works and e.g. Liquid Television and Spike and Mike’s Festival.
aaand I don’t really have a conclusion, just wanted to put some notes together I guess...

JOKE MOD IDEA: "Friday Night Funkin': Literal"
All weeks are modified to be a little... too accurate... to their titles.
Main weeks listed out in the open! A few mods will be under the cut.
TUTORIAL
The extra bit at the end of hard mode is added to Girlfriend's side and she now narrates that part too. Gotta teach you everything.
She even teaches you how to open the pause menu! And the song does not proceed until you've actually opened it.
WEEK 1/3/7: DADDY DEAREST / PICO / TANKMAN
All assets are now replaced with the respective character, and the songs are acapella made with their vocals. For Pico specifically, all songs are Pico.
WEEK 2: SPOOKY MONTH
Game is in the art style of Spooky Month.
WEEK 4: MOMMY MUST MURDER
Mearest wants to fuckign kill you
Singing? No time for that!! Must avoid being brutally murdered by hot angry demon milf!!
WEEK 5: RED SNOW
The snow in the background is colored red.
There is also red snow falling inside the mall.
WEEK 6: HATING SIMULATOR FT. MOAWLING
Senpai is in his "angry phase" for both the first and second song. He hates you.
The background girls also hate you. And Senpai. Everyone hates each other.
Spirit is replaced with Moawling.
BACK ALLEY BLITZ (Whitty)
Sparkles everywhere!
Disco lights in Ballistic!
Scroll speed for all songs increased by 0.2. Enjoy!
MID-FIGHT MASSES (Sarv/Ruv)
Sarvente holds a mass in the middle of each fight. Even Zavodila.
MMMMBOB (Literally Every FNF Mod Ever (Bob Week title before Onslaught update))
Same as Weeks 1/3/7, just with Bob.
Also, all the dialogue is replaced with "mmmm"
BOB'S ONSLAUGHT
All songs are replaced with Onslaught. Have fun!
ARCADE SHOWDOWN (Kapi)
DDR ain't enough to settle this. A bunch of other arcade games get modded in!
i don't actually know a lot of mods' actual week names so if you could gimme some to come up with "literal" versions of, that would be cool. or make some yourself B)
Now, how about basing these off of mod titles instead of week titles?
POST-MORTEM MIX UP (King)
The songs are remixed! Not sure how you can try to upgrade perfection, though.
Everyone, including King, seems really goddamn confused.
Everyone is undead or dressed to look the part.
You have to play every week three times to unlock the next.
B3 REMIXED
SOFT
Hard mode is gone.
Art style looks 10% more squishy. Father, no! Don't turn me into a marketable plushie! NOOOOO-
LITERALLY EVERY FNF MOD EVER
Every mod possible is listed together in the normal FNF Week selection screen, and you can play all of them as if they were all there.
LEFNFME is included, but blob Bob is replaced with AmorAltra's Bob. Who knows, maybe he's getting revenge for that takeover week.
