Chicago Bound

Here's Amtrak number 365, the Blue Water, headed out of Kalamazoo; it's accelerating after its station stop there and will soon reach 110 MPH. This line is the former Michigan Central (New York Central) and now owned by Amtrak itself.

Happy 313 Day From Corktown

It was fabulous to be back in Detroit's oldest neighborhood for the first time in a couple of months! After picking up a few things at Honey Bee Market, I walked behind Michigan Central to enjoy some sunshine in Roosevelt Park before heading down Michigan Avenue on my way home. I can't wait until Michigan Central opens on June 6th!

After swinging and sitting in the sun, I stopped into Alba, a new cafe in Corktown, for an iced Jasmine Green tea. So cute! I also picked up some gold spray paint at Brooks Lumber for a few repurposing projects.

Eastbound Wolverine

After seeing the westbound Wolverine, I knew it wouldn’t be long for the eastbound (number 354) to come along. I thought the headlight would light up the coaling tower, but perhaps I will have to do again in darker conditions.

Once again: former Michigan Central between Galesburg and Augusta, Michigan. I believe this portion of the line is now 110 MPH as it has been west of Kalamazoo for quite some time.

“January 2021” Built in 1936, The Elwood got its name from the two streets where it was built: Elizabeth & Woodward Avenue. It was designed by architect Charles Noble in the and moved to its current location in 1997, when the Ilitch family started work on Comerica Park. I used to walk past it every day on my way to work at the RenCen (back when it was still owned by Ford) and wish I had photos of it before it was wedged between parking garages.
