At work, there’s a clearly defined line of professionalism he cannot cross. But in his apartment, his home, and with his son he’s not sure he’ll be able to stop the feelings he’s harbored for you for a while.

The drive to Aaron’s isn’t very long and soon he’s putting the car and park and jogging to try and open your door for you. When he realizes you’d already opened it, he offers you his hand instead and you roll your eyes as you take it.

“Always the gentleman, huh Hotchner?” He flashes you a smirk in return and you chuckle as he leads you to the elevator of the parking garage, still holding your hand. It’s nice, his large hand enveloping yours and providing warmth to your chilly fingers. You certainly aren’t complaining and wouldn’t want him to drop your hand.

Jack’s running to the door as you enter the apartment and immediately wraps his arms around Aaron for a hug. “Aunt Jess let me stay up late ‘cause you said we were gonna decorate tonight!” Jack exclaims, excited for an extended bedtime on a school night.

“Yeah buddy! I brought over a friend too, to help us with those new decorations I got, remember?” Aaron asked, leaning down to hug Jack and press a kiss to his hair.

Jack nods before looking around Aaron to wave at you and say hi. You wave back at him before unwinding your scarf and unbuttoning your coat. Aaron’s behind you to help take your coat off and hang it up and you’re startled by his closeness. He was close enough for you to get a whiff of his cologne, something subtle but spicy. It sends a shiver down your spine, being that close to him.

You shake it off though as he moves into the apartment to grab the decorations he’d purchased. You follow and sit on the couch as Aaron places the bags on the coffee table. Jack hops up next to you and reaches into the bag, pulling something out.

You see the item and gasp, looking at Aaron over Jack’s head. “Really?”

“I overhead JJ and Morgan talking about wanting to decorate the office and I know they tend to be well, one track minded. I wanted to make sure all bases were covered.” Aaron shrugs, and you see that his neck is turning red again.

“This is, incredible,” you breathe as you help Jack paw through the bag. There isn’t much, but it’s something and it means so much to you. Dreidels, strands of blue lights, a plush menorah for Jack to fill at home, an electric one for you to plug in at your desk, and gelt. Bags and bags of gelt. As you open the items, you explain what they are to Jack. That dreidels are both the spinning top itself and a game you play, that you play with gelt and then you can eat it because it’s a chocolate coin, and the menorah. You save it for last, telling him the abridged story of the Maccabees and how they fought and then discovered the oil left in the temple should only last one night but miraculously gave them light for 8 nights.

You keep it short, mindful of the time and Jack’s drooping eyes. He is excited about everything and demands you come over another time to play dreidel with him and to bring latkes, he said they sounded yummy and wanted to try some. You promise him that you will and give him a hug goodnight as Aaron makes sure he gets tucked into bed.

Most of the decorations are still spread on the coffee table in front of you, a few of the light strands hung up at Jack’s insistence. You’re still shocked that Aaron went through the trouble to find all of this and even more surprised he’d wanted some of it for his home, not just for the office. You flip through one of the children’s books Aaron had bought to help Jack understand the Hanukkah story and smile at the illustrations. You’re so engrossed in it that you don’t hear him return and get startled at him sinking into the couch next to you.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” Aaron says. He clears his throat and twists to look at you, “Thank you for doing this. For explaining Hanukkah to Jack and indulging him. And me too, I guess.”

You smile warmly at him, “Of course, it’s nice to know that people do want to learn. And you know I can never say no to Jack,” you laugh.

“Oh yes, there is a track record of that,” Aaron jokes. As you laugh you notice how close he’s sitting to you and your filled with warmth, though a little confused as to why he’s so close. It’s closer than he ever sits next to you, including on the jet. You settle into it, but his nerves from earlier seem to have transferred to you. You’re hyper-aware of Aaron’s presence and it puts you on edge. You know that you’ve been ignoring and pushing down the attraction you feel to him, the way you gravitate towards him. You know that you ignore it in the name of professionalism, of not crossing a line. But there’s also part of you that’s scared to put yourself and your heart on the line by giving in to your feelings. Aaron is your friend, your boss, someone who’s been a part of your life for years. To ruin that, to lose that would be devastating. So, you’ve continued on as if there are no romantic inclinations.

Besides, you’ve convinced yourself there’s no way Aaron reciprocates your feelings. He’d been so in love with Haley and hadn’t made any steps towards moving on or starting another relationship for so long. There’s no way that he’s taken a romantic interest in you, not now.

“You still here with me?” Aaron says, pulling you from your thoughts.

“Huh? Oh, yeah. Just…thinking.”

“About what?”

You swallow, trying to figure out the best way to answer. Obviously, something is different about tonight. Aaron’s been hovering all evening, close to you and holding your hand and you’re sure he rested his hand on your arm or shoulder while you explained Hanukkah to Jack. He’s tactile, in a way he’s never been before. Now that Jack has gone to bed and you two are alone, you’re forced to really confront what it could mean.

“Did I lose you again?”

You shake your head and shoot him an apologetic smile, “I’m a little distracted, sorry.” You take a breath, determined and turn to face Aaron, “There’s something, different tonight isn’t there? You held my hand on the way here and you’ve been hovering close all night. It’s different than when we’re at work and it’s just…it’s distracting,” you blurt.

Aaron’s eyes meet yours and he takes your hand again, “It is different. You’re here at my apartment, and you’re so good with Jack and I just, I wanted it to be a little different, if that’s okay with you?”

“Are we going to keep dodging around it? Because this is, it’s a lot Aaron. It’s something I haven’t dared hope for, and I don’t want to mess anything up between us. You mean a lot to me. As a friend, a coworker, and as someone who’s been in my life for years at this point. I can’t lose that, not now.”

“Hey, hey,” Aaron’s hand comes up to rest on your jaw and he makes you meet his eyes, “none of that talk. Nothing is going to ruin what we have. You aren’t losing me.” The conviction in his voice helps calm your nerves, but there’s still so much left unsaid.

“Aaron, we have to be on the same page. This isn’t a one-time thing for me. I like you. As more than a friend. As someone I want to have in my life for a long time. For forever, really. I can’t say I love you right now because I’ve spent so long pushing all this down but it’s a real possibility. I can see a life with you, and I know that I could love you. If we do this, Aaron I’m pretty much all in.” You’ve laid your cards on the table, put it all out there. Aaron squeezes the hand he’s still holding and grips your jaw a little tighter, making sure you don’t turn away from him. He sees you, and you can’t hide.

“We’re on the same page. You just spent an evening with Jack and I teaching us about a holiday we don’t celebrate. I don’t think I can say it anymore plainly that this isn’t a one-time deal. I know I’m falling in love with you. Have been for a while,” he huffs out a laugh, “I see that life with you, and I want it. I know it won’t be easy with work, but we can figure that out and deal with the paperwork, I just know that I want you in my life, in Jack’s life, and I can’t lose you either. I want more time with you than we spend together in the office and I just, didn’t know how to tell you. But I want this. I want you.”

You’re verklempt, a mist clouding your vision. You smile and Aaron and he returns it. You both lean in and then he’s kissing you, his lips moving over yours and oh this is something you can get used to. Kissing Aaron Hotchner is something you could easily do for the rest of your life. When you separate for a breath you tell him that and it draws a chuckle from both of you.

The details will come later, telling Jack and the team and Strauss but for now, you’ll sit on his couch and kiss him. There’s some lost time to make up for anyway.

And if you’re over for dinner a few days later, well that’s just fine. Aaron greets you at the door with a kiss and takes the bags out of your hands and into the kitchen. It’s the first night of Hanukkah and you’ve brought latke supplies to fulfill your promise to Jack. And when you light the first candle in your menorah, Aaron wraps his arms around your waist and you settle into him, content.

“Hey guys, I’m going on a food run. Once the elevator doors closed, Amanda collapsed into her chair; it was a surprisingly slow day at Special Victims Unit and all anyone had to do were mountains of paperwork. “Well, she seems... nice,” the blond detective offered. You had only been at SVU for only a few weeks after transferring out of Vice and Olivia had you partner up with Amanda, and while she thought you were nice, she also felt that there was something off about you.

And apparently, Olivia and Fin felt the same way. Fin was the first to break the awkward silence. “Are we sure this is one of the best officers in Vice? She doesn’t look like a cop. She’s too... soft.” “C’mon guys, she’s young, just give her time to mature a little bit. Her captain back in Vice said she’s young, but shows a lot of potential. And you gotta admit, she’s one hell of a runner,” Olivia responded in your defense. Truthfully, the Captain loved your presence at SVU and thought you were a breath of fresh air, even if you are a little unconventional in your ways.

“I’m just sayin’, I ain’t ever seen a rookie write notes in glitter gel pens or have pink and purple office supplies,” replied Fin. Amanda looked over at your desk and indeed, there were pastel colored office supplies. There was lavender desk calendar that took up a good amount of space on your desk with important dates scribbled on, a baby pink cup that held pens, pencils and markers in various colors, and finally, the sky blue tray that held papers and a confetti stapler. Amanda knew that in the drawers there would be pastel mini notepads and notebooks. She thought it suited you, not that she was gonna say that out loud.

Meanwhile, you sat at a table waiting for your number to be called. You passed the time by coordinating plans with your mom and younger sister for the holidays that were coming up; the two of you would be spending them in France with your dad and new stepmother. When your number was called, you paid with a fifty dollar bill and smiled in thanks to the woman who handed you the brown paper bag. Winter was clearly in full effect in New York as you gripped your jacket tighter with your free hand. Riding up in the elevator, you checked the messages you might have missed from your walk back to the precinct; your flight confirmations for you and your sister, your sister dropping subtle “hints” about her presents, and your mom complaining about grandma’s new beau which you just rolled your eyes at.

When the elevator dinged open, you expected to see the squad still sitting at their desks flipping between paperwork but they were gone. Did a call come through? You saw that the blinds to Liv’s office were down, maybe you’d peek your head in just to make sure, but then you heard voices. “I know Y/N isn’t what we’re used to but she’s doing a great job so far. And besides, we need all the help we can get,” Olivia said, and she sounded tired. They’re talking about you.

You felt bad for listening in on their conversation, but at the same time, you were curious as to what everyone thought about you, that is until it was Fin’s turn to talk. “She seems like she’ll be better suited for a kindergarten classroom.” You automatically knew he was referring to your desk and wardrobe choices and you looked down to examine your outfit: a white striped turtleneck, a pair of jeans, and the diamond half moon shaped necklace. Seemed innocent enough. Then you heard your partner laugh. 

“She dresses like an off duty Disney princess.” You felt your eyes prick with tears and willed them back; Disney princesses were pretty badass in your book. You decided you heard enough and knocked a little too loudly on the door, it would be better if you acted as if you hadn’t heard anything. “I’m back! Come and get it!” You pulled your container of egg drop soup and brought it to your desk and got a bottle of tea with some of the change in your pocket. For the next twenty minutes, you switched in between the family group chat and writing off paperwork. You didn’t speak to anyone either as the classical ballet music flowed from your headphones to your ears.

After three hours, Olivia declared that it was getting late and she had to get home to Noah, so now it was just you, Amanda and Fin. You were finally on the last page and you were just about to fill in the blank spaces when someone cleared their throat. You didn’t care about anything except finished your work so you could get home; you had already missed dinner, pizza night, and your mom texted you that she saved two slices for you. “Y/N, you got a minute?” It was Fin, and he and Amanda were standing at your desk; you quickly paused the music that was playing and yanked the earbuds out.

“Sure. What about?” There was only one last section and it wouldn’t even take you long to complete, plus you were tired and wanted to get home, wash the day off, get into your favorite pair of pjs and watch the late night Golden Girls marathon on the Hallmark Channel. “About what you heard earlier... we didn’t mean anything by it.” You snorted; isn’t that what they all say when they get caught? A part of you was telling you to let it go, keep the peace, but another part was telling you to choose violence, and you decided to go with the latter.

“Of course you did, you just didn’t mean for me to hear any of it. It’s fine. I look like an off duty princess, like I belong in a kindergarten classroom. Nothing I haven’t heard before. Anything else?” You said all of this in a bored voice, like your parents were lecturing you for staying out all night without calling. You knew that you weren’t a typical New York detective and you took pride in that. You liked writing your notes down in colored gel pens (the pink and purple pens are your favorites) in your pastel mini notepads because you think they look pretty and nice, and the items on your desk are mostly pastel colors. With all the shit you’ve seen in just your first week at SVU, you wanted to look at pretty things and thought the victims might too after the horrific stuff they experienced, and anyway, Olivia didn’t have a problem with you writing in glitter gel pens as long as they weren’t official documents.

You always dressed in light colors because it meant that perps wouldn’t suspect you as a cop while undercover, something you learned during your time in Vice. Plus, it made you feel good so you kept on doing it. The criminals felt they could trust you. “Look, we’re gonna be working together for a long time so we might as well be honest with each other, right?” They both nodded and you stapled the pages together and put them in the tray. “Great! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have two slices of pizza and a Golden Girls marathon on Hallmark Channel with my name on it. See you Monday!” 

You grabbed your coat and started packing your tablet/iPad and putting it in your backpack then reached for your wallet for your metro card; your train would arrive in fifteen minutes, and it was a short walk to the subway station. “Do you want me to give you a ride home? It’s a little too cold to be waiting for the subway,” Amanda offered. “Are you sure? I live a far ways out.” More like twenty minutes away, way too far from Amanda’s apartment. It usually takes you forty five minutes to get home every night; thirty five minute ride plus ten minutes of walking to your building.

“Sure. I have to be in that area anyway,” she answered. You decided to take her up on the offer, after all you just saved over two dollars, money you can put towards moving out of your mom’s place. Turns out, Amanda was better than any Uber driver and she had a better selection of music: lots of 90s and Y2K pop hits and you were in your neighborhood in no time when you realized she was pulling up to your building. “Thanks again Amanda, I really appreciate it.”

“No problem. And Y/N? I really am sorry about the way I behaved earlier. We’re adults, it was wrong of me, and I never should’ve said that stuff. Can you forgive me?” Amanda sounded sincere, and you could see it in her eyes that she really was sorry. “Of course. See you Monday?” She smiled, and with that, you shuffled quickly into the brightly lit lobby of you building. You hoped that this would be the start of a new page.

Hello! I just found this blog, I am so happy! I am sorry for the verry long ask here but could you help me figuring myself out??

Before starting, I am a 20 y. o girl and  I have anxiety disorders... Also, I am not really fluent in English. As I can read and understand very well, writing is always a bit tricky...!

1. I first took tests (I saw somewhere it would be more appropriate to say "questionnaire" as there is no good or wrong answer, but I don't really know haha). I got INFP, and just went with it. A year later I took other tests and got the same results, but I did not really think it "clicked" as I thought these tests did not take enough into account...

So I tried looking into cognitive functions, kept a record of some of my behaviours and why I reacted some ways... But the more I looked into it, the less I could narrow down to fewer things. Thus I figured I could need help in order to find at least a direction for searching ^^'

2. I absolutely love reading the same books over and over again, watching all over again the same series to the point I know them by heart. I could go all day binge-watch or binge-reading the for the 15th time the same thing. I also love reading reactions from people about these same series / books! I also absolutely love daydreaming. Many times, I stop every 5 pages or 6 minutes of watching to run in my flat to get a shoot of fantasies (sometimes fueled by what I was just watching/reading). Outside from home, I love going to bookshops (2 to 3 times a week, preferably during off-peak hours, I am not comfortable at all in crowded places).

3. I kind of think I am not someone really pleasant to live with. I speak a lot, I love speaking, but I don't listen (mostly because I can't concentrate on it, I am focused on showing I am interested in what I am not listening to by noddind or maintaining eye-contact, and also a lot of times at home because I don't care). In fact, I can only concentrate on what is said if it involves one of the things I read or watch again and again or if it is a subject I really like. Also, at home, I tend not to do what I am told, because I want to show that I could have thought about it and done it by myself. However, when I am outside, with other people, I am unable to say "no", even if I end up not doing it, or I find excuses not to do it or not to accept it and feel bad about it.

4. My friends, and even my mother, told me I was very kind, bordering too kind. Taking in account what I said in (3.) I don't understand how they can think that...

5. Leadership: I really dislike taking leadership. I don't want and am scared to impose my view on others (and most of the time I just have nothing to say, head empty). At school I hated group work except if it led to an oral exam (oral exam alone is worse than everything, I cry in front of everyone, so if someone can speak with me or for me it is better). However, if no one gives direction, I take the very minimal lead because otherwise the work would not be done at all and we would spend hours looking at each other (I would only say "I could do that, what are you most confortable doing? And I can also reshape/review the text at the end if you want" ). The only thing I am confident with in group work is proof-reading, I love correcting mistakes, in fact I can't let a mistake pass if I see one (I must be so annoying...).

Self-expression: I love saying how I feel to my close friends, like I want them to validate my feelings. I often ask "how are you" firstly out of courtesy, and secondly because they will ask me in turn and thus I can say everything I want to say. In fact it is often self-pitying. But if someone tells me to move on because it would not make things change, I might start being harsh or lash-out. At the end of the conversation or after parting, I almost every time feel bad because I finally notice that I did not ask anything or enough to my friend, and that it is wrong.

Also, I rarely interact with people on the bus or in the streets even if I sometimes really would like to. But if I do so it is mostly in order to show that I have knowledge on the subject in question, and only after that in kindness.

However, I hate asking people to do something for me (except little things like passing me the salt or giving me a glass of water). If I do so, I fear that people are reluctant to do it, or do it because they have to. I would prefer if they proposed it by themselves and if I could be really sure that they are doing it because they want to.

6. Novelty : it would be true to say i dislike change or novelty. Several facts: when I was 2 or 3, I didn't like watching new movies, so my mom had to put them in background, and I would pick interest later. In primary school I cried an awful lot because we were throwing away our broken sofa. At the end of middle school, I didn't want to go to high school because I felt better as things were. Same thing at the end of high school, and same again at the end of my 3rd year of university. Right now, new metro lines are in construction. I think of metro network as my playground (I love taking the metro), and the fact that the network as I know it will change somewhat makes me uncomfortable. I always prefered how things "were before". (I think it feels kind of confortable this way)

7. I procrastinate a lot. So much in fact. I hate being late because it is disrespectful, but I am always just on-time or late. I am also disorganised and can't follow plannings. I guess I am too lazy...

Another thing is that I am obsessed with identity. Pinpointing who I really am has been an obsession for many years. If I could be unique by knowing who I am, it would be a great accomplishement to me. When I was young, I would have an obsession for wearing items of a certain color because it was my trademark. Same for favorite animal or favorite season. It leads me to be quite envious at times.

Also, I often think of what impact my behaviour might have on others. For example at school, I would come back several times (but not all times) for exams if I was not too sick because otherwise I would have had more time to study with no drawbacks, and it would be unjust to the others. I also care a lot about what people would think about me, even if it does not really seem to be the case after everything that has been said haha.

Finally, I have a strange relationship with helping others. I really would like to help, because it is the right thing to do and it is kind, but when a situation presents itself I think "ugh why me". If I turn a blind eye, I feel like a monster. If I help and fail I feel bad. If I help and succeed I feel really good and proud of myself, but these situations should not occur too many times as they make me feel anxious before, during and after. On the other end, I am very bad at comforting, and often do it badly. I don't like seeing people cry, it hurts, but otherwise I don't understand how people feel.

Well, after writing this I have the impression of being a complete paradox and not someone to speak to hahaha! I have so many things to change in order to be more pleasant to live with!

I’m leaning towards ISFJ.

I’m seeing strong Si/weak Ne. You gave several examples to show you’re much more comfortable with what’s familiar, and resistant to change. Re-reading/watching media, trouble letting go of familiar items, your mom playing movies in the background until they were familiar enough for you to enjoy - all strong examples of Si throughout your whole life. Also, your first example of familiar media still giving you inspiration/fantasies is a great example of Si/Ne working together.

I can see young Fe in being “too kind,” and having trouble saying No to people. You don’t like imposing your needs on people, and are aware when you can’t meet someone else’s needs (“I felt bad I didn’t ask my friend enough and that is wrong.” or “If I help and fail, I feel bad.”) You show an awareness of the impact of your behavior on others, and have a sense of “social courtesy.” You gave a good example of Si/Fe in saying “I ask ‘How are you’ first out of courtesy…and then they will ask me in turn.”

Lower Ti shows through a bit in your enjoyment of proofreading and correcting mistakes, or when you said you engage “to show I have knowledge on the subject.”
