'Tis obvious
You can just imagine your favourite Hanna-Barbera Funtastic types not being the sort to prefer pod-based coffee brewers like K-Cup or Nespresso as opposed to "pour-over" types like Chemex or Melitta. It's all about, more or less, "keeping it simple" and reducing needless and unnecessary waste (as in brew pods which are unlikely to be accepted for recycling).

WHO INVENTED THE COFFEE MACHINE?
Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world. The drink is brewed from roasted coffee beans from the coffee plant. The method of preparing coffee depends on the desired flavour and personal taste. However, almost all the methods involve the grounding of coffee beans and then mixing them with hot water.
Tumblr media
History Of Coffee Makers
For many years, making a coffee drink was a simple process that involved grounding roasted coffee beans and putting them in a pot of hot water to allow for the infusion process. The pots were specially designed in such a way that they could trap the ground coffee beans before the coffee is poured. The infusion process soon became popular, especially in France.
Soon, the idea of not boiling coffee gained acceptance. Drip brewing (making coffee using filters) became popular. Several techniques were used to make coffee fillers including the use of cloth socks. However, it was not until 1908 that Melitta Bentz invented the first drip coffee maker using a coffee filter she had made from blotting paper.
How Melitta Bentz Invented The Coffee Maker
Amalia Melitta Bentz was a German entrepreneur who was born in 1873. Frustrated by the over-brewing of coffee whenever she used percolators, Bentz experimented with various means of making coffee but each of the items used failed. She finally decided to use blotting paper from her son’s notebook and to her surprise, the paper was easier to use and produced a clean coffee. She soon started her drip coffee company and became the first person to create a coffee filter.
Bentz was granted a patent by the Kaiserliche Patentamt on June 20, 1908, and the company was registered in December of the same year as M. Bentz. The company managed to sell 1,200 coffee filters during the Leipzig fair in 1909. By 1928, the demand for coffee filters was so high that the employees had to work a double shifts.
At the time of Bentz’s death in 1950, the company was valued at DM 4.7 million. As of 2018, the company had made 1.5 billion in sales and had over 4,500 employees worldwide. The Melitta Group has operations worldwide and has numerous brands and products.
The Automatic Drip Coffee Maker
The automatic drip coffeemaker was invented and popularized by Mr Coffee in the 1970s. The machine works the same way as Bentz’s coffee filter by dripping hot water through a finely grounded filter paper. In an automatic drip coffeemaker, the reservoir is first filled with cold water followed by heat from a heating element. The boiling causes the steam to rise into a tube and condense. The condensed water infuses coffee and filters into the carafe which is placed on a hot metal plate to keep the coffee warm.

The History of Coffee Makers
Tumblr media
When the man discovered the taste of coffee and its stimulating effect of caffeine on the body, He was hooked. It was love at the first sip. The road to a quality coffee machine has been bumpy. The original coffee makers had a small problem because they get exploded from time to time.
Sometimes they burned the coffee. According to some, women who had houses of bad reputation were among the first large coffee makers.
In 1674, men spent so much time drinking in local cafés that women in England tried to ban coffee.
The coffee makers of the 1600s and 1700s were designed in a variety of styles, most of which featured an increase in fat in an effort to help retain the coffee beans.
when spilling the coffee. Some creative people put the coffee in a sock in an effort to contain the gardens in 1780. This announced the birth of the Mr. Biggin coffee machine. Mr. Biggin used a cloth filter. Coffee fanatics tasted cotton, wool, burlap and other fabrics and materials to filter the coffee. The fabric did not work very well. The metal coffee filter came to use in 1802.
The 1800s were a time of rapid development of the coffee maker. Madame Vassieux of Lyons developed a vacuum coffee maker. Madame Richard also created a vacuum-style coffeemaker. The vacuum coffee makers and percolators were widely used. In 1818, a blacksmith from Paris invented the first coffee percolator. In America, Cowboy Pot was the preferred coffee maker.
During the years from 1835 to 1850, many, many coffee makers were invented. Coffee machines with glass balls, coffee machines with vacuum system, coffee machines with piston system, steam pressure coffee makers, a Naperian balance siphon coffee maker and other coffee makers, Toasters and grinders are invented.
The birth of the Manning-Bowman Percolator occurred in 1890. The House Furnishings Review magazine promoted the Cafetiere double blown glass coffee machine. The Raparlier coffee machine had a filter made of cane. This style of hydropneumatic coffee maker It was used until the 1960s.
Vacuum and percolator coffee makers continued to be created in different styles. Plunger filters were first introduced in the 1900's. The principle is still applied to coffee makers today. Some say that it is virtually impossible to make a bitter cup of coffee with a plunger style coffee maker.
The vacuum coffee makers and percolators continued to be created in different styles. Symbol filters were introduced for the first time in the 1900s. The principle still applies to coffee makers today. Some say it is virtually impossible to make a cup of bitter coffee With a plunger style coffee maker.
As the 1900s progressed, Willy Brandl invented one of the first electric coffee makers in history. The biggest advance, in this case, was the switch that automatically turned off the coffee machine when the liquid level was low. Coffee filters as we know them today were born in 1912. Frau Benz invented the filter paper of Melitta coffee. Goodbye to linen filters and coffee cloth. Coffee Filter Paper was very much easy to use and get rid of.
The first real espresso machine arrived in 1946 when Achille Gaggia designed the first espresso machine that did not involve the use of steam. In fifteen years, modern coffee makers using paper filters began to be used commercially. Bunn introduced the paper filter as it is known today in 1957. Bunn introduced the first coffee maker pour over in 1963.
Mr. Coffee was born in 1972. The automatic drip coffee machine reaches the shelves of stores and begins to appear in homes and businesses around the world. After Mr. Coffee signed Joe DiMaggio to be the company's spokesman in 1974, Mr. Coffee became a household name.
When the price of coffee beans was shot in 1977, Mr. Coffee created a coffee maker that used less coffee. The first coffee carafe was born at this time, giving coffee drinkers the ability to keep the coffee hot for long periods of time.  In 1979, timers appeared in coffee makers and have come a long way from the Cowboy Coffee Pot.
It will be interesting to see how the machines evolve in the next one hundred years.

What Does Red Coffee Maker Do?
That’s far from the truth, and what you see for mass sale tend to be blends designed to taste the same all year around. There’s a lot more choice out there and coffee should be thought of like fine wine, with almost infinite variety between beans, depending on the type of coffee and where it’s grown.
There’s one type of coffee bean, the Old Brown Java, where the beans are aged in a way that mimics how coffee was inadvertently aged in ships travelling to Europe. As a result, the Old Brown Java coffee has a brown colour before it’s roasted, where most coffees start green.
In short, if you start in the supermarket aisles, you’ll find some half decent coffee beans, but if you really want to experience the world of coffee, you need to spread your wings a bit further and try an independent coffee roaster, either online or in a shop. Here, you’ll find a far wider range of coffee beans to choose from and more choice than you get with pod machines.
That’s not to say that pod machines are a bad choice. The main benefit, other than convenience, is that you change the type of coffee from cup-to-cup; with coffee beans, you really need to finish one variety before moving onto the next one. How we choose the best coffee machines Testing coffee machines is all about getting the best-quality coffee out of them, ensuring that each one can produce the best-tasting cup of the black stuff.

For any that use ground coffee or whole beans, we roast our own batch of Peruvian beans. We use a medium roast, a little lighter than you’d probably use at home so that we maintain the beans’ origin flavours. By controlling the roast and beans used, we can compare the machines that we review, taste-testing each one.
Coffeemakers Fundamentals Explained
All coffee dispensed is tested for temperature (around 65C is right for espresso). Where milk’s involved, we manually froth where available and use automatic options otherwise. We’ll adjust technique and settings until we’re satisfied that we’re producing the best steamed milk that the coffee maker can deliver. You can read more in our how we test coffee machines article.

How to choose a coffee machine
Tumblr media
The coffee machine has long become a familiar attribute in many kitchens. The high popularity of these devices encourages companies to constantly expand the range of their models, actively using innovations. But abundance of offers on the market sometimes complicates the choice of the optimal coffee machine. Of course, the price and functionality of coffee machines are the main selection criteria. The model functionality in turn depends significantly on the technical characteristics of the coffee machine. But the type of coffee machine also affects the choice. Today, companies produce traditional drip coffee machines, compression (carob) espresso coffee machines and steam coffee machines that are popular almost 200 years. Modern models provide coffee making for almost every taste.
Tumblr media
Performance, water supply and filtration
The periodicity of adding coffee beans, removing a spent coffee grounds and emptying the drip tray depends on the capacity of the respective containers. Large volume improves usability, but increases the model sizes. Of course power directly affects the making coffee time. But the speed increase of making coffee reduces the beverage saturation. Therefore, this value is less important for models without adjustment of coffee taste. Usually, power of household models equals 750 W. They provide making coffee in an amount from 30 to 50 cups per day. But power of espresso models reaches 1000 W and more for providing a pressure from 15 to 20 bar. Commercial models provide making coffee in an amount several hundred cups per day. Modern models use the flowing or accumulation hydraulic systems. Flowing system heats the required volume of fresh flowing water. Accumulation system uses a boiler that fills with water as needed. These models are easier to use and cheaper. Unfortunately, rare use provokes stagnation of water in the boiler. Of course, all modern models have a water filter to remove impurities and foreign flavor of tap water in the finished coffee and minimization of the scale formation. Modern coffeemakers use the following filters: - disposable paper (a few tens of cycles); - reusable nylon (up to 60 of cycles); - reusable stainless with a titanium nitride coating (60 cycles and more). It's also known as a gold filter.
Tumblr media
Built-in coffee grinder
Built-in coffee grinders have steel or ceramic millstones. Ceramic millstones work much quieter and are often used in low-power models.
Tumblr media
Of course, steel millstones have great mechanical strength.
Tumblr media
They are used in more powerful models that are designed for intensive exploitation. Some expensive models have an optimized coffee grinder that provides a virtually silent operation. Wear of millstones is accompanied by worsening the quality of their working surface that increases the operation time and impairs the grinding quality. Experts recommend replacement of millstone after 5000-10000 working cycles.
Coffee brewing
Modern models use mechanisms with removable or non-removable design. Removable model is washed under running water without using detergents.
Tumblr media
Coffee machines without automatic cleaning systems require of regular washing the pipes and hoses of the hydraulic system, at least once a month. Otherwise, they will collect sediment that affects the coffee taste. Model with non-removable brewing unit usually has an automatic cleaning. Built-in counter automatically controls the number of servings and indicates the need for cleaning that is performed with the help of a special program.
Manufacturers and cost
Some companies specialize in the production of only coffee machines. For example, Jura and Gaggia develop and produce only this equipment. But most companies, for example, Bosch, Siemens, DeLonghi, Philips, etc. produce these devices simultaneously with other household appliances. Moulinex, Philips, Zanussi, Tefal, ProfiCook, Russell Hobbs Companies produce high-quality coffee makers of drip type. But budget models from Bosch have moderate price and the high quality assembly. Vitek models have highest quality among Chinese manufacturers. Unfortunately, these brands have a relatively small lineup. But these devices usually are well assembled, have sufficient power, reliability and durability. Today, Delonghi, Gaggia, Saeco (Philips Saeco), Jura, Melitta, Spidem, Nivona and Siemens brands are leading in this market segment. Unfortunately, models of these companies they have a high enough price. Usually, these devices combine innovation, sophisticated design and reliable operation. Separate segment contains built-in models. Today, AEG, Hotpoint-Ariston, Whirlpool and Electrolux companies offer models in the lower and middle price segments. Miele, Smeg and Gaggenau Companies offer premium models. These models have very stylish design and fit perfectly in the any kitchen interior. But, of course, they have very high price.
Tumblr media
The video at the end shows the making coffee process with the built-in Miele. The сost of modern coffee machines varies widely and depends on the brand and functionality. Price of budget models is up to $ 300. The cost of devices from well-known manufacturers with a large number of additional functions ranges from $ 1,000 to $ 4,000. Read the full article

Moth Mondays with the Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera: Sis from The Hanna-Barbera Happy Hour
For a short-lived (four episodes) attempt at a prime-time variety show, The Hanna-Barbera Happy Hour may have been ahead of its time. But for its co-hosts, Sis (as takes the ur-Moth stage this week) and Honey (who does so next week), having post-Happy Hour lives can be rather interesting, especially when it was the likes of Snagglepuss who helped reunite them via Lake of the Ozarks--and since then, have been "on the road" as vagabonds of a sort in a mini-motorhome as may not exactly be either The Mystery Machine or The Perfume Wagon. But as Sis explains, life on the road can have a few interesting aspects of its own:
Believe you me, folks, being with Honey "out on the road," writing what could best be called a rolling memoir of our journey, has actually turned out to be rather interesting in itself. At least you manage to find new and exciting places to park the motorhome every night, but out of principle, we choose not to park overnight in Walmart parking lots. For us, Walmart isn't exactly our kind of store, and we don't exactly go along with its articles of faith as amount to essentially UNDERMINING otherwise good and honest working-class people. As for campgrounds, we prefer nothing less than family-run or otherwise independent campgrounds; Honey and I prefer the family-run sort of brand as isn't sterile and aseptic for the most part. Not to mention still having opportunity to run into plenty of interesting people out there, even if the fire pit is now our answer to the hot tub we used to have on the Happy Hour. (Or if the campground does happen to have a whirlpool or hot spa, we go that route; "just like old times," you might say.)
And I think one of our quirks when travelling is actually having serious coffee when we're on the road. No, not that convenience-store crap which can have a rather predictable taste, nor even instant coffee--which may not really be coffee after all, when all is said and done. Hence, our fondness for the Melitta coffeemaker, specifically the cone-filter pour-over sort. So our routine when we get up in the mornings, as if breakfast wasn't good enough--for us, it's mostly muesli and yoghurt, but have sometimes been known to visit an "old school" pancake house for variety--is also to brew up a Thermos pot of coffee in the Melitta fashion. In fact, there's a Melitta coffeemaker as actually lets you brew coffee into an insulated 10-cup carafe, enough to appease you when you're on the road, otherwise in a dull state of stupor which, in earlier times, would have been enlivened by campy billboards for, say, Wall Drug or South of the Border, depending on region. And it can actually get rather weird at times.
Once, we were at a rest area along I-90 somewhere in Minnesota, I believe, dictated by as much sheer tiredness and fatigue as the prospect of heavy cloudbursts overnight that could make travel treacherous, and there we were, parked away for the night when the dreaded heavy rains hit. How we managed to sleep through the night with all that heavy rain pounding away in just a few minutes (and yet not look like lesbians) is anybody's guess. And add to that the idling engines of all those over-the-road truckers parked overnight in the same rest area besides, and you can just picture how we managed to get ourselves into coffee-making mode to begin with. And in case you ask, we buy bottled water--no, not the Perrier or Evian or even the Mountain Valley schtick, but that from special taps some stores have--to brew the coffee with. Which just became rather crazy gymnastics of a sort that, thankfully, not even the Minnesota State Patrol would notice as if were illicitly camping (as opposed to parking our motorhome) overnight in a rest area.
And wouldn't you know it--we were down to the last couple of coffee filters, prompting us to make a mental note to ourselves to get some fresh such at the next town of consequence. As well as some coffee, preferably the freshly-ground sort from whole bean. Luckily, we headed into Rochester before too awful long that morning, and sensing that we deserved something more substantial for breakfast, we headed to the cafe section of the local Hy-Vee supermarket and had some omlettes. And wearing "tourist trap" souvenir nightshirts, besides, which amused the regulars there (and which we put down to not having much time to change, to begin with, back at the rest area in sensing our needs). All in all, since we needed to get a few more things "for the road" anyway, we were able to get the coffee filters, coffee and bottled water out of the way as well. (Who can resist the smell of coffee fresh from an in-store grinder, even if it's some second-rate whole-bean brand?)
It can get rather crazy at times just managing to get some real coffee made on the road, and still manage to have some value for money in the bargain. But we actually manage to do it.
