Title: The matrix: resurrections (2021) Vote: 6.5/10

Film added to the original trilogy just to make money from it. In fact, in addition to being embarrassingly full of references to previous films, the screenwriters themselves make fun of themselves by adding references to bad reboots and sequels, to capitalism, to greed and to franchises. Not a very successful plot that loses a lot compared to the other films. Agent Smith behaves in a way that I honestly didn't understand, causing the good guys to win and Morpheus version 2.0 was just passable. The positives are the analyst and the idea that Neo and Trinity together are the chosen one. Interesting concept that could have been developed more, perhaps avoiding bringing back the character of Agent Smith who could have remained buried.

This was not worth the hype or anything really. I was shocked how bad it was. Terrible. Little surprised no one gave them a bigger budget cause this looked like a student film. Only for the die hard fans of the previous films.

Rookie-Critic's Top 20 Films of 2021: Honorable Mentions - The Matrix Resurrections (dir. Lana Wachowski)

Even yet another possible controversial pick, I felt The Matrix Resurrections updated this classic franchise for the modern era in glorious fashion, in a way only Lana Wachowski could. A lot of people probably see that as a negative, but I'm not sure this could have been done any better than it was. The new characters/actors fit the (let's be honest) ridiculous style of the franchise to a T, and the story went in directions that, while unexpected, were very refreshing and original. You get just enough of that classic Matrix feel while also getting a story that is wholly its own. Something that we don't get in most modern sequels, but that is sorely needed in them.

Score: 9/10
