okay someone shared this in a college basketball discord i’m in (congrats to the huskies, btw)
and i had to share it here because oh my GOD, never before has a random sports guy been so relatable:
The composer [of the classic NCAA tournament tune “One Shining Moment”], David Barrett, was once a struggling folk singer. Having finished a show in late March 1986 at the Varsity Inn in East Lansing, Mich., he was watching a Boston Celtics game at the bar when an attractive woman sat beside him after her shift.
“She was the most beautiful waitress on the planet,” Barrett said. “The kind of woman who is so good looking that you don’t even bother talking to her.”
But the soft-spoken Barrett, then 31, tried to break the ice with an exposition on the poetic majesty of Larry Bird’s talents.
“I looked up at the TV to watch a fast break and when I turned back around, she had left without saying a word,” he said.
Barrett was determined to overcome the snub by making the woman understand how it felt to play basketball “in the zone” by writing a song. He left the bar with the beginnings of a melody and what he hoped would be a good working title, “One Shining Moment.” The next morning, Barrett said, he wrote lyrics for the 3-minute-45-second tune in 20 minutes on a paper napkin.

UN MARZO DE LOCURA
Sabemos que estás molesto. Los no favoritos han hecho estallar todas apuestas. Quizás es el marzo más loco de la historia.Kansas, el campeón nacional defensor, y Purdue, el sembrado número 1, se han ido: los ‘Dulces 16’ no tendrán sangre azul, Duke o Carolina del Norte, por segunda vez desde 1979.
Están advenedizos como Princeton, Florida Atlantic y un equipo elegido para terminar último en la Conferencia del Big 12.
Y, siendo marzo, por supuesto que está Tom Izzo.
REGIÓN SUR
Alabama se ha visto como el sembrado número 1 en general, superando a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi y Maryland a pesar de la agitación que rodea al programa.
Esperando a Alabama en Louisville, Kentucky, estará San Diego State. Los Aztecas, quintos cabeza de serie, son viejos y les encanta superar a los oponentes, sólo pregúntenles a las universidades de Charleston y Furman.

UCLA todavía tiene a Jaime Jaquez y Tyger Campbell, lo que les dará al menos una oportunidad de vencer a Gonzaga en Las Vegas.

Finally got around to this ship bingo ask, thanks anon for putting this into my inbox!! 💖💖
Sooooo since the Toronto Raptors team has gone through a lot of changes this season, their chemistry has been all over the place due to...well, nobody really knows each other.
So Scottie and Gradey, while intriguing as friends, weren't on my radar.
Sure, they've had some moments together, like when Scottie welcomed Gradey on draft day, the time where Gradey watched the Super Bowl with Markquis Nowell (from the Raptors 905 team) and Scottie, and most recently, the forehead kiss...but they don't really interact that often together. Shipping is hard for me when there isn't any irl bromance.
I also am still mourning the Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes pairing; also, Gradey and Nowell had a great bromance together (but then Nowell got waived and I'm still sad about it because he was so interesting to watch as a player 😩).
(RIP the Pascal/Scottie pairing and the Gradey/Nowell bromance. 💔)
So yeah. I'm conflicted about them (bc I'm still mourning) and I do like it in theory (if they had more irl bromance moments then I wouldn't be against it). Aesthetically it's great because they're both real goofy guys and I always imagined them making silly TikToks together or something. But right now, with the lack of irl chemistry, it's missing that special something. 😅
P.S. I have been keeping up with the Scottie/Gradey fanfic on AO3 and I've definitely been looking forward to more updates! 😌✨

post-game takeaways for raptors vs taipans (yes i know i'm one day late but oh well)
-the Australians were getting beat up by the Canadians out there on the court...but also they WERE missing their best players so they weren't bringing their best anyway
-Markquis Nowell didn't get bullied in the second half which was an improvement from the first preseason game at least lol
-there were so many Pascal Siakam smiles!!! so glad to see him smiling on and off court 👀💖
-confession: i didn't actually watch the second half, only the highlights bc i felt sorry for the Taipans out there and couldn't take it 😭😭
