It's Griffin and his weird bird! (Close-up and Lore under the cut)
Tumblr media
Marcus (left) is a Necromancer. He was born in Wisteria to a long line of seraph-kin, and was meant to go to Pigswick before he found he was most successful with Death magic. He transferred to Ravenwood just before the incident with Malistare, but refused to go back home after the chaos started.
Griffin (right) is a Musketeer. He's an orphan, but was raised by a member of the Marleybone navy after his family died in a storm. He worked in smuggling, and is extremely well-known for it still, doing shipments for Marleybone and any pirate that pays well enough.
Marcus and Griffin met as little kids when Marleybone would send shipments to Wisteria. They'd play together when the ships were docked, then send letters when they were away. After Griffin had to go into hiding to get better at smuggling, he cut contact with Marcus for a few years. It's only by chance that Marcus ended up in the wrong part of the spiral and Griffin found and helped him.
They're best buds, and I like to think they regularly visit eachother once the Armada chills out (Aka Ryan distracts them). Ravenwood fears when Griffin shows up, if only because he teaches the storm students how to shoot his guns. Griffin's crew doesn't mind Marcus' visits, but it hampers their fun because they suddenly have to be super careful not to get Marcus noticed.

Woah, I actually drew them!!!
Marcus Soulwhisper, Necromancer (left) and Griffin Wright, Musketeer (right) are two of my 101 ocs!
They're childhood friends that met in Wisteria (Marcus grew up there, and Griffin would visit w/ Marleybone ships) and lost contact after Griffin became a full-time pirate when his father died.
I like to think that they rekindle their friendship by complete chance (encounter eachother in Marleybone when Griffin is doing some smuggling) and they're just the strangest lil pair of guys hehe~

Shout-out to Marcus, one of my many ocs with horrible tastes in men 👍
Quick cut just to lore-dump a bit (skip this if ya want).
Marcus got to Ravenwood, calamity happened, Blueflower ran off to solve it. Marcus met Nolan while exploring Cyclops Lane and immediately clocked him as a pirate (cuz his bestie Griffin was a pirate) but said nothing.
Marcus stuck around and managed to befriend Nolan after a *lot* of struggle, but they got super close. Nolan was cocky and rarely did any actual work, but Marcus was willing to help him improve one step at a time, which worked to make them all the more connected. Nolan associated his forward progress with Marcus, and therefore Marcus was a valuable pawn.
Then Marcus suddenly wasn't a pawn, and in the most neurodivergent way possible, Nolan confessed a crush to Marcus. Marcus (who'd had a crush 0.2 seconds into hearing Nolan be obnoxious) returned the sentiment, and in my headcanon lil universe they're a pair.
Marcus is a beloved little pastel goth, and Nolan is still the most hated student on campus, but they're working on their shortcomings together.

Uhhhh, oc rant under the cut!
Now that I'm in Marleybone, it occurred to be that Marcus probably always assumed that Griffin was from Marleybone Proper and not its outpost w/ the pirates. When Griffin went radio silent for years, he probably begged his parents to visit Marleybone, and they refused.
Getting to go to school in Ravenwood, and having a key to the world door to do assignments, I imagine his first priority is to contact Griffin's living family. Then he hears that Griffin's father was killed. Griffin was missing, but presumed dead. Marcus would be crushed.
Which makes it all the better when he makes it to Wisteria and goes to the dock for old-times-sake... and sees a familiar blonde young man anchoring his Marleybone Ship and disembarking to talk with the dockmasters???
Idk, I think it would be *funny* if Marcus got into the pirate end of the spiral, but I think it'd only be *right* if Griffin took up his dad's smuggling duties after Marcus went off to Ravenwood. Then, in the calamity w/ arc 1, Marcus manages to stumble across Griffin doing his usual rounds.

It's Griffin and Marcus again!
They're goofballs, and I 100% believe Marcus would summon skeletal pirates to help Griffin's crew.

I'm 100% sure that if Marcus stays w/ Griffin on his ship for any long periods of time he's definitely getting nicknamed "parrot" by the crew.
Therefore, if he were to get kidnapped, it would be 200% funnier for the crew to be like, "Someone stole Cap'n Wright's parrot, and we're about to raid their base." Right before a battle.
Follow-up scenario, the crew bragging about their Captain's "magic parrot" and when people see Griffin they expect a pet. Not... an entire Guy With Wings who also happens to be versed in Death Magic.

Having thoughts regarding... SoulWhisper?
Idk, I was playing as BlueFlower the other day and noticed that Seraph definitely originate from (or at least populate) Avalon. And now I have to live by the idea that Marcus' family line moved to Wisteria somewhere at sone point, but he used to go to reunions there. He hates Avalon, because the Death Seraphs give the family *such* a bad name that he can't bare to show his face there anymore. He worries his grandmother would keel over to learn her little Candy Heart Seraph was a Death Wizard.
Also, I feel like on some level his family would be respected by the Knights, and the amount of times he'd be visiting and get nearly bombarded by a knight? No thanks.
Imagining that when Blueflower finally gets to show Marcus around Avalon, she'd be flabbergasted (and even a bit jealous) that her fellow knights would recognize Marcus right away. As in, "Ah, Lady Blueflower of the Wyrd! And, is that Young SoulWhisper? By Artorious it is!" And she's baffled when Marcus ducks behind her.
Blueflower loves being a Knight and exploring Avalon as one of many chosen warriors. Meanwhile, Marcus would rather be anywhere but Avalon.

I have art that I'm not posting rn cuz brain hurt, but I drew Marcus SoulWhisper on the same canvas as Ironside and Blueflower.
Marcus is like the perfect balance between the other two. And by that I mean, the other two are traumatized prophesied heroes, meanwhile he just moved in from Wisteria at the wrong time, and is also a descendant of the Seraphs.
