Kazuya Kinoshita is dumped by his girlfriend Mami Nanami after dating for a month. He then decides to use an online dating app to rent a girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara, a beautiful and attractive girl.
However, because he thinks she was inauthentic, he gives her a low rating. When Chizuru berates him for that during their next meeting, he realizes she is meaner than he expected.
However, when Kazuya's grandmother is hospitalized, he brings Chizuru along and his grandmother is smitten with how great she is. As such, Kazuya continues renting Chizuru in order to keep up appearances with his family and friends, but things get complicated when they discover they are next-door apartment neighbours and attend the same college.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Manga Author Draws Naniwa Danshi Member Ryusei Onishi, The Star of Live-Action Drama
To celebrate the birthday of Kazuya Kinoshita, the male protagonist of his popular manga series Rent-A-Girlfriend, manga artist Reiji Miyajima posted a special collaboration illustration of Kazuya and Ryusei Onishi (Johnny & Associates' boy idol group Naniwa Danshi member), who is cast as the character in the upcoming TV drama adaptation. Miyajima says, "I'm really looking forward to seeing a different Kazuya from the manga!"
— 宮島礼吏 Reiji Miyajima (@Miyajimareiji) May 31, 2022
Ryusei Onishi as Kazuya Kinoshita:
TV drama is set to be aired in Japan in July 2022, the same time as the second season of the TV anime adaptation. The drama will be aired every Sunday on ABC TV's "Drama L" programming block, directed by Daisuke Yamamoto (Ossan's Love) on scripts by Kumiko Aso (Wakako Zake).
In addition to the previously-announced Hiyori Sakurada (Shizuno Takakamo in the Saki Achiga-hen episode of Side-A live-action series) as the main heroine Chizuru Mizuhara, 19-year-old fashion model Shiori Akita (Tsuzura Hanatemari in Kakegurui live-action series) is cast as Kazuya's former girlfriend, Mami Nanami.
She says, "I hope that the drama will retain the charm of the original manga while conveying its unique and interesting aspects. I have never played a character like this before, so I am trying to find my way through trial and error every day while filming. I would be happy if you look at Asami and think, 'I hate her!' (laughs)."
See what they did in their anxiety. They were scared. They were scared, so they concealed it from the general public... completely losing any feelings of shame and honor and putting aside the civilization... as well as leaving the science behind it. Closing the lid of Pandora's box they themselves were the ones who had opened it!

In the beginning, I'd like to mention that Akira was the 99th episode of my review however, unexpected obligations led me to change the list of queues. However, this doesn't alter the fact that for a long time I had a desire to review this fantastic anime, and yet I was afraid of it as well. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to manage the sheer size of this epic sci-fi film. However, being aware that the film celebrates its 30th anniversary and that 2019 is right near, made me go through my doubts and finally go through the only Akira.
Language: Japanese Original Title: Akira Runtime: 124 min
Synopsis
It's the year 2019 and it's 31 years after the beginning of World War III. From the rubble of Tokyo the capital city of Japan, a new one known as Neo-Tokyo is being built. The postwar society is divided into the ruling class who are out of touch as well as rioting workers and youth who form motorcycle bands. In the course of a conflict among two groups, the Capsules along with The Clowns, Tetsuo barely avoids colliding with a child while on the highway. Then the army comes in and takes the child away, along with wounded Tetsuo before his companion, Kaneda. Tetsuo is put through a variety of tests, and Dr. Onishi decides that he is qualified for the military project that is aimed at training children who possess powerful psychic abilities. But, Tetsuo breaks loose and is on the run. The project's head Colonel Shikishima and Kaneda are trying to stop him but without any result. Tetsuo is determined to face his greatest adversary Akira, the mysterious Akira himself.
"A future that we are able to decide for ourselves"
What could I think of Akira? It's definitely the perfect example of breathtakingly visual splendor. Even though the film has been around for a long time and is still stunning even when compared to contemporary computer-generated animations. Overall the animation was created by hand one frame at a time, by a team of experienced and hard-working artists!
Katsuhiro Otomo is easily described as a god of creation because he did not just come up with the concept of manga as well as directed and wrote the adaptation only two years after completing the entire story arc for the comics. Based on my personal experiences, I know that watching Akira in a cold state isn't an ideal idea as the plot is difficult to follow. Certain things are just mentioned and the history behind Akira isn't clearly explained. After I continued to read the manga but then returned to the film the storyline became more apparent.
But, I wouldn't suggest reading six manga volumes to be able to comprehend the story. This is something I've done on my own as I wanted to explore and experience more of the cyberpunk post-apocalyptic universe that Otomo invented. Are the films vastly different from the original manga? I'd suggest there isn't. With its two hours of running time, it is able to encompass about 50% of the stories from the comics. The remaining 50% that didn't get into the movie are a plethora of subplots, and side-questions, along with an extensive amount of exposition and character development.
I would like to suggest that the film is better than the manga because it effectively connects everything. Certain aspects could have been better explained however the overall story is still very enjoyable. It's not just that Kaneda appears to be the protagonist, who experiences an internal transformation by when the film is over film rather than being a hero-type character within the comic. In reality, the only thing that the manga is better (apart from the fact that it drags the story by having the characters move from A to B continuously) is the relationship that occurs between Tetsuo Akira and Tetsuo Akira. Similar to... two-thirds into the comic-book tale Akira and Tetsuo become their own rulers in Neo-Tokyo and there is no way to tell who is the master, and which one is a slave to this bizarre relationship.
The quantity of blood, sweat, and tears involved in the production of this film is incredible! There were eight different companies involved in the production, a budget of one billion dollars, 2000 pages of notes, a plethora of storyboards, and more than 100,000 animation cells. The sheer magnitude of this undertaking is impressive when compared to the current standard. There were also lots of other activities that took place in the background of animation. Actors recorded their dialogue using sketch boards and physically carried out their characters as if they were directing the radio drama. The awe-inspiring musical score (composed by Shoji Yamashiro and recorded by the Gino Yamashirogumi's collective) added a brand new dimension to the universe of Akira. The whole evidence can be seen in this featurette of the making.
Recommendations
Highly recommended for anyone seeking to learn more about the best parts in the genre of cyberpunk in the correct way. The only problem I have with Akira is that it can be extremely violent, and I don't revisit Akira as much as the likes of Blade Runner (1982). Also, it's important to be in the right mindset to watch Akira. There's also plenty of discussion being discussed regarding the Hollywood remake in recent times. My question is: why? Akira is not in need of an adaptation that is live-action since it's an action film that is life. Its timeless legacy will be influencing the next generation of sci-fi enthusiasts like Tetsuo and will remain in a different dimension.
