MAJOR ÁKOS - grafikus, fotóművész/graphic designer, photographer

Kiegyensúlyozott, szeretetteljes családban nőtt fel, szeretett lakótelepi gyereknek lenni, legszívesebben csendben és egyedül alkot - nem egy "rocksztár" alkat, ősszel megnyílnak az érzelmi csatornái, kedveli a macskák humorát, egy hosszabb séta tölti fel a leginkább. Amúgy pedig spenót, jó fokhagymásan, analóg gépek és New York City.

He grew up in a well-balanced and loving family, he enjoyed being a ‘building estate’-kid, he prefers to create in silence and solitude- he is not a ‘rockstar’ kind of person, in autumn his emotional channels open, he likes the humor of cats, and he is recharged the most by a long walk. And by the way spinach, with lots of garlic, analog machines and New York City.

Milyen típusú emlékek inspirálnak jobban: a jók vagy a rosszak?/What kind of memories inspire you the most: good or bad ones? Inkább a jók, de nem annyira lényeges. Ami megmarad, abból dolgozom. Szokatlanul sokat felejtek egyébként, a környezetem tudja ezt.

Mostly the good ones, but this doesn’t matter that much. I work with what is left. I unusually tend to forget a lot, but my environment knows this very well.

Ha újjászülethetnél egy ma élő vagy már halott művész személyében, kit választanál?/If you could reincarnate as a living or dead artist, who would you choose to be? Ha újjá akarnék születni valaki más személyében, az tuti, hogy nem egy művész lenne.

If I would want to reincarnate as another person at all, I surely wouldn’t choose to be an artist.

Hogyan lendülsz túl az időszakos alkotói válságon?/How do you overcome a temporary artistic crisis? Kivárom, míg elmúlik, megszoktam, hogy az idő segít, az okoskodás meg nem. A mostani három éve tart, haha.

I know that time helps while being smarty pants doesn’t. This current crisis I’m in lasted for the past 3 years already. Haha

Mi a legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléked?/What is your favorite childhood memory? Kiegyensúlyozott, szeretetteljes családban nőttem fel. Nagyon jó volt lakótelepi gyereknek lenni.

Mit érzel, amikor egy másik művész a tiédhez hasonló munkát készít?/What do you feel when a fellow artist creates something similar to your work? Izgalmas, ha találkozom olyan valakinek a munkájával, aki érezhetően hasonló úton jutott el oda, ahova én is, és így hasonlítanak, vagy sok a közös a dolgainkban. Ha koppintást szagolok, igyekszem nem nagyon foglalkozni vele, van annak elég baja, aki csak utánozni tud.

It is exciting to meet someone who came up with a similar solution to mine, that our stuff resembles each other, or we have a lot in common. If I can smell full-on copycat action I try not to bother too much. They have bigger problems if all they can do is copy someone else’s work...

Gyűjtesz valamit?/Are you collecting something? Nem nevezném gyűjtésnek, de vannak analóg gépeim szép számban. Forgatom őket, nem ülök rajtuk, csak azok maradnak meg, amikkel nem tudok vagy nem akarok szakítani. Használatlan kacatjaim nincsenek.

I wouldn’t call it collecting, but I do have plenty of analog machines. I exchange them, I don’t just keep them, I only keep the ones that I can’t give up, or simply don’t want to. I don’t have any useless stuff lying around.

Kedvenc budapesti pillanat?/Favorite Budapest moment? Még a kilencvenes években történt, ültünk a Moszkva téren a hatoson, vártuk, hogy elinduljon. Egyszer csak egy rakás gyerek szaladt be a kocsiba, mondjuk harminc, és ugráltak bele az ülésekbe, rohantak a sorok között, csinálták, amit a gyerekek szoktak. Egy valami volt különös, de elsőre nem esett le, hogy mi az. Aztán rájöttünk: az egész invázió tök csöndben zajlott le, csak a cipők surrogását hallottuk. Süketnéma gyerekek csoportja volt. Vigyorogtunk egymásra.

It happened back in the 90’s. We are sitting on a tram number 6 at Moszkva tér, we are waiting for it to start. Suddenly a bunch of kids just ran into our wagon, let say 30 children, and they jumped in the seats, they were running between the seats, they did what kids usually do. There was something very peculiar, however, but I couldn’t put a finger on it at first. Then we realized: the whole invasion happened in total silence, we could only hear the whoosh sounds of their shoes. They were deaf-mute. We smiled at each other.

Van olyan gyerekes szokásod, amit akkor csinálsz, amikor senki nem figyel?/Do you have a childish habit that you do when no one is watching? Á, nincs :-)

Van-e napi rutinod?/Do you have a daily routine? Van, persze változik a különböző életszakaszok során. A mostani rutinom a gyereknevelés köré épül.

Yes, although it changes with the different life phases. My current routine is built up around my children.

Kedvenc tárgyad?/Favorite object? Alapvetően a használati tárgyaim valamennyire mind a kedvenceim. A haszontalan holmikat nem szeretem, nem is tűröm meg magam körül.

Basically, the objects I use on a daily basis are all my favorite ones. I don’t like useless things and I also don’t appreciate them around me.

Van egy jól körülhatárolható hangulat, amikor könnyebb számodra az alkotás?/Is there a particular mood that makes creating and working easier for you? Lehetőleg egyedül legyek, és legyen csend. Ez van, nem vagyok rocksztár.

Ideally, I like to be alone and I like silence. Oh well, I am not a rockstar.

Sör vagy bor?/Beer or wine? Sör, a bor engem savanyít.

Beer, wine is too acidic.

Kutya vagy macska?/Dog or cat? Mindkettő. Szeretem a macskák humorát.

Both. I like the humor of cats.

Mi az, ami a leginkább feltölt?/What can recharge you the most? Egy hosszabb séta.

A long walk.

Kedvenc város?/Favorite city? Ha csak a várost nézzük, New York City volt rám eddig a legnagyobb hatással. Budapest pedig egyszerűen elronthatatlan, bármennyire is próbálkoznak vele évtizedek óta.

If you only look at cities, New York City had the biggest impact on me. And Budapest is simply ‘un-ruinable’, even though they are trying really hard for the past few decades.

Hol leszel 10 év múlva?/Where will you be in 10 years? Békében, akárhol.

Kedvenc étel?/Favorite food? Ahogy neked válaszolgatok, szépen rájövök, hogy semmiből nincs kedvencem. Szeretem a rizst, például. Basmatit, paradicsommal, hagymával. Tésztát olíva olajjal, fokhagymával. Lángost. Kolbászt, keményet. Spenótot is, jó fokhagymásan.

As I am answering your questions I have to realize that I don’t have favorites of anything. I like rice, for instance. Basmati with tomatoes and onion. I like pasta with olive oil and garlic. I like Lángos. I like sausage, the dry ones. And spinach with plenty of garlic.

Kedvenc évszak?/Favorite season? Ősz. Megnyílnak az érzelmi csatornáim, lelkileg békét kötök a világgal egy kis időre.

Autumn. My emotion channels open, and I am at peace with the world for a little while.

Mi a legrosszabb tulajdonságod?/What is your worst characteristic? ...hogy csak egy kis időre.

...that only for a little while.

Melyik korban élnél szívesen?/In which era would you prefer to live in? Japánban a nyitás előtt, Európában a tömegturizmus kialakulása előtt, Amerikában 911 előtt. Nagyon szerencsés vagyok, hogy az internet előtti korszakban nőttem fel. Ezért tényleg hálás vagyok.

In Japan, before it opened up, In Europe before the mass tourism, in the US before 911. I am very lucky that I grew up before the internet era. I am genuinely thankful for that.

Ha egyetlen tanácsot kellene adni más, esetleg még kezdő tehetségeknek, mi lenne az?/If you could give one piece of advice to someone else, maybe to a beginner talent, what would it be? Tegye le a kütyüt, amin ezt olvassa, és legyen azokkal akiket szeret. Ezt magamnak is.

Put down that gadget after reading this, and spend time with your loved ones. I also say this to myself.

1989–1993 között a Pécsi Művészeti Szakközépiskola grafika szakára járt. 2000-ben diplomázott a Magyar Iparművészeti Egyetem (ma Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem) vizuális kommunikáció szakán. 1998–2001 között a Robin Design Stúdió grafikusa, 2001–2010 között pedig Senior Art Director volt a Publicis Hungary-nél. 2010-től szabadúszó grafikusként dolgozik. Figyelme 2009-ben fordult a fényképezés felé. Egyedi kompozíciójú, szín- és tónusvilágú – természeti és városi – tájképei számos hazai és külföldi fotográfiai blogon és honlapon láttak napvilágot.

Between 1989-1993 he attended the graphic specialization of the Art School of Pécs. He finished his diploma in 2000 at the Hungarian Art University (now Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest) majoring in visual communication. Between 1998-2001 he was the graphic designer at Robin Design Studio, and from 2001-2010 he was the Art Director at Publicis Hungary. Since 2010 he works as a freelance graphic designer. His attention was drawn to photography in 2009. His pictures are characterized by unique composition, color, and tone- their theme is mainly nature and cities and they have been published on numerous blog sites both Hungarian and foreign.
