I like Mac Harshberger, he is my favourite Tristan Artist ever. I tried doodling my Tristan more after the image of his Tristan. I quite like it, especially because it goes along well with the way I doodle.

Beauty and the Beast
One of Hollywood’s most famous motion pictures was a story about a giant ape that (literally) falls for a beautiful woman.
March 11, 1933 cover by Rea Irvin.
New Yorker film critic John Mosher found the premise of King Kong ridiculous, but he also found many of its scenes diverting, especially those featuring Kong and a number of prehistoric creatures (created by Marcel Delgado), miniature models…

Tristans Outfit - from the Movie Bonus Card called „Friends“ (which gives us a short insight of Tristans and Bediveres past) - reminds me a lot of Mac Harshberger's Painting of Tristan and Isolde. A fun coincidence? Probably.
When we look at Tristans Base Writing (The Base Writer is Higashide, in case you didn’t know) it is very well researched. It has many influences not only from Malory but a lot of Gottfried von Straßburg. It was to my surprise, since I expected them to go down the Wagner Path, since it’s the most modern version and also it seems very popular in Japan. But let’s save this up for another post!
Back to the topic. Let’s just say Mac Harshberger isn’t the most popular Tristan and Isolde/Yseult Artist (I have to say tho, he is my favourite one). So I guess if searching for Tristan References you don’t easily find him there. But I could imagine that Morii would go all out for a proper research! For Morii's Tristan Design in general I will make a proper post one day!
As I said, I guess it’s rather unlikely that this is based on this drawing and just a general take on Tristans casual medieval look when not wearing his Armor. But I really really like the idea of it!

aubrey beardsley type beat
Yes !!!! Absolutely. Mac harshberger studied in europe for a good long while (mostly under maurice denis if that name means anything to you- incredible french artist). I know he worked a lot with art deco artists at the time and was peobably insanely inspired by beardsley and neilsen. Mac harshberger was one of the first artists to bring the art deco style to america though! Which is so awesome to me. He did a lot its a shame hes mostly forgotten. Theres been some pushes recently especially by lgbt art groups to recognize him though…!
Heres this pic of his partner, his sister, and him (on the right) lmao. Also some art he did of him and his partner and their cat because I love them
