went down a rabbithole of discourse to see what people mean when they say they don't like the wedding and well
let me ask you this:
do you not the like this plotline because it's "poor writing" (even though it was literally planned from the start, ie rafael knowing) or you do not like it because it shows that carlos isn't a saint with minimal, "cute" flaws, here to help tk get better?
do you not like iris or are you villainising her because she's "getting in the way of your ship" and doesn’t act in a neurotypical way, or in what you're "used to" seeing from neurodivergent characters?
really think about these cause i think you might figure some things out.
now i haven't made it a secret that i'm liking this plotline, but i'm not just gonna call out one side without explaining mine, that would just be unfair, so here are my full thoughts now that ep2 is out
i love this plotline because it's an opportunity to delve into carlos' character development, which when compared to tk, we haven't had much. like sure, they've been a couple and stuff but apart from the jealousy with connor and the issue with his parents, what have we really learned about carlos? compared to all the development we've had from tk, carlos at times felt very much like a tool for tk to move forward, because the character himself still had such limited growth opportunities
now the marriage plotline is his time to shine. i recently reblogged a post where it was mentioned that tk came full circle in the first 3 seasons, starting with a failed proposal and ending with a successful one, so i think that tk at this point is okay to take a secondary, and just overall less dramatic approach to his character development. because we've seen him go through the big things. now it's carlos' turn to do like a pokemon and evolve.
we get to see the full scope of his anxiety, internalised homophobia, and saviour complex.
it's already a huge step that he talked to tk about it before he took care of the divorce. people with anxiety disorders (it's me hi i'm people) can tell you that bringing up a problem without having a solution is next to inconceivable. we feel like we always need to have solutions for our problems and if we don't, then people can't know about them. so the fact that carlos trusted tk enough to tell him (albeit after being "forced" to by andrea) tells you a lot about just how much he cares. and we also got the opportunity of seeing tk's growth because he didn't take it personally, didn't think this was against him, he understood that this was carlos' own problems and just like carlos helped him deal with his issues, tk's gonna help him deal with this.
it also shows just how far carlos' internalised homophobia went, and shows that even though most of it wasn't on screen, he's done amazing progress. the conversation on the couch is a testament to that growth, to him realising he wasn't broken at all. it's also a great way to show internalised homophobia, because it's something that most queer people go through, especially at the beginning, and i think it's beautiful to show that no matter how much time passes or how many mistakes you make, the important part of it is that you found yourself, the rest can be taken care of later.
and of course, his saviour complex. we saw it when he let the bank robber go, we saw it when he broke down because he felt like he failed tk by not having enough fire extinguishers to protect him, and we see it now by him staying married to iris for the health insurance. abd not going to see her because in some way, he feels like he failed her. maybe he should have noticed her illness sooner, or he should have been there with michelle from the start, but he didn't know what to do or what to say so he just didn't go. which again, if you have an anxiety disorder, you can relate. sometimes when things feel too hard or we don't have a set plan for everything that's gonna happen, or we make it harder than it is in our minds, we just don't go. speaking from experience, i ghosted my therapist for a year cause i forgot to call in sick for one appointment and thought she would judge me so i didn't go back. that's just how much anxiety can affect you, and for carlos, this is his "monster", this marriage is the thing that he desperately wants to fix but doesn't know how, finds too complicated, so he's stuck where he is because he's just not able to fix it.
and it's amazing to see how much tk gives him strength, the trust they share, and how carlos found his motivation in tk. that's love and from one anxious person to another, i'm really proud of carlos
now as for iris, i love her, i really do. she shows a mental illness that we don't always see, and normalises the fact that even after being medicated, neurodivergent people aren’t just suddenly gonna be "fixed". she's saner with her medication but we see how she finds it hard to communicate because her brain just works differently. when can see during her talk of an annulment, she thought she was being obvious the whole time, and it was only after tk asked for an explanation that she realised she needed to express this better. she doesn't mean her questions maliciously (ie carlos warning tk beforehand and being ready to step in if it got too much while also trusting that his fiancé can hold his own), she just has questions and asks them. she asks them because she's curious, because she's worried about carlos, because she wants to know more about tk. she doesn't have that little voice in her head telling her that her questions can be taken the wrong way.
and the part everyone's mad about, with her calling tk carlos' life's work. she didn't say it to insult tk, she didn't say it because she thinks he doesn't deserve carlos, she said it because in her mind it proves how perfect they are for each other. "always needs a project" + "can be his life's work" = soulmates. and idk if i understood that because i'm neurodivergent or because whatever else, but it made sense in my brain, i get her.
and ofc, it's a great opening to show off tarlos' ability to communicate with each other and both their individual and joint growth.
now for the fact that they can't get an annulment, i'm honestly not sure that was the plan at all, it might have been brought in just for the symbolism and after realising they can't do it, they'll have to stick with divorce. i don't know, i'm hapoy to let the writers surprise me and then pick apart and analyse the story as it comes.
and for the fact that iris is now missing, again, don't have many thoughts about it right now other than i think she went looking for the woman at the care center that she talked about when tk first got there, bc that comment felt too pointed not to become a plot point. but again, i'll hold any thoughts until after the episode air.
i see so many people getting stuck on what could happen, and what was "seen coming" etc, but honestly, just trust the writers. we know it will end in a wedding, ronen and rafael trust the writers fully, and that's good enough for me you know. i'm not gonna stress about what "could happen" in a tv show, i do that enough irl. i'm just gonna enjoy the ride.
so yeah that was me

I don’t know how I didn’t realize this earlier, but I was just thinking about Owen and TK’s conversation in Awakening when Owen is telling him about the mother and daughter that one summer when he was life guarding. They had gone out too far and a current had taken them. The mother resurfaced but the daughter didn’t, and Owen then said he jumped into action and did CPR. “I could feel myself breathing life back into this tiny body.” This is what made him decide to become a first responder.
Owen was able to save this little girl from drowning, but he wasn’t able to save his brother.
I never realized until just now how much these two scenes parallel one another. When he was a kid, there was nothing he could do to save his brother, but as an adult, he could save this little girl and make sure she had the life she deserved. One that wasn’t cut short.
There is no denying that he absolutely thought about Tyler while that was happening. He probably became a lifeguard that one summer (at the very least subconsciously) so he could “make up” for not saving his brother, for lack of a better term. That choice wasn’t random at all, it wasn’t “just a summer job” or a cash grab — there was absolutely more thought into it than I think we as viewers even realized.

The argument/make-up in 2x04 is really one of my favourite Tarlos stories because I just love when conflict in fiction is the direct result of two people’s individual traumas bumping up against each other, rather than someone being a villain.
Both of them in this episode are coming from a place of having a large trauma in their past that the other doesn’t know all the details of. Carlos hasn’t told TK anything, at this point, about how his coming out went and how much pain he is in every single day because he feels like his parents don’t fully accept him being gay. He avoids the topic of his parents at Owen’s party when TK brings it up because he’s in a honeymoon phase with TK and he’s never had that before with anyone. He believes – like he says at the end when they make up – that he might never be able to have a real relationship. And he does likely know that at some point they’ll have to discuss his parents but he has never been as happy with anyone as he is with TK (insert season four context of he felt broken until the day they met) and he isn’t ready just yet for the dreamy bubble they’re in to be burst by reality.
So he deflects, in what will become a signature personality trait of Carlos’s – chronic avoidance and making jokes to get out of conversations he isn't ready to have. And then by accident they run into Gabriel and Andrea, and Carlos, still not ready to do this, panics and introduces TK as his friend. He knows he shouldn’t have done that, but trauma, so he acts like he doesn’t understand why TK is upset and he makes a joke out of it. He’s been anxious this whole time about how TK, who is so out and loud and proud, is going to react when he finds out Carlos is still half in the closet, and this is the very reaction he was so afraid of and why he avoided it for so long.
None of it is done with malintent, it’s all self-preservation and learned coping mechanisms from things in his past that have left such deep scars, but TK doesn’t know that, so it hurts him anyway.
TK, meanwhile, is still pretty fresh off of getting his heart broken so badly that he tried to kill himself. He went to Austin in a truly horrendous state of pain and trauma and heartache. He wasn’t planning on meeting his soulmate so soon, he wasn’t ready to meet his soulmate because of how much his heart was still in tatters, which is why we get him being so wishy-washy in season one. By early season two he’s also very much in that honeymoon phase, but that doesn’t mean his wounds are fully healed yet. He asks Carlos about his parents, it feels implied in the party scene that it isn’t the first time he’s asking about them. He’s given Carlos the opportunity to have the conversation that they need to have, but Carlos has changed the subject.
Then they run into them. TK is so happy to meet them, and then so instantly crushed when Carlos introduces him as a friend. He’s upset all the way home, and Carlos – for reasons TK doesn’t understand yet – is acting like it’s not a big deal. TK storms out because that’s how he copes with things at this stage in his emotional development, and leaves some hurtful words for Carlos as a parting gift. Not a mature way to handle things, but in a later scene with Owen and Gwyn it’s revealed how hurt TK really is. “I wanted him to tell them who I was and what I mean to him,” TK says, all dejected. “Maybe he did. Maybe we are just friends.” Because Alex also told TK "I love you", and then cheated on him. TK’s lingering Alex trauma bubbles back up; fuck not again, not another man who says ‘I love you’ to my face but then hides me and doesn’t really want forever with me, even though that isn’t really what’s happening with Carlos.
If it wasn’t for Alex, TK probably wouldn’t have been half as upset by any of this and would have been more receptive to hearing an explanation, but Carlos doesn’t know that, so it hurts him anyway.
It’s just such good conflict. They’re both right, and they’re both wrong. They’re both operating from places of extreme hurt that isn’t the other person’s fault, and they’re both operating from places of not understanding the extent of what the other is going through. And in the scene where they make up you can see how much love there is and how much they both really want to understand the other better. It’s such a beautiful way to love someone, to say to each other “let me meet you where you are and love you the way you need to be loved, even if it’s different from how I need to be loved.”

that look on tk's face when he's looking around the fully furnished loft for the first time is just so. there's so much in it. later eps really contextualize how truly in awe he is, like there's this genuine shock that he gets to have this, that it's his. and it feels like it runs so deep, not just his love for the loft as a dream place to live with carlos, but also..... this is his home. this is a home he didn't think he'd ever get to have, a life he didn't think he'd ever get to live.
i just keep on thinking about 19 or 20 year old tk who was battling addiction and working as a firefighter and trying to feel close to his dad again, who probably thought that that was all there was. who didn't know what his future held but probably figured it wouldn't be good because he didn't deserve for it to be. and i can imagine him thinking about that tk too, as he's looking around the home that he now owns, the life he gets to build with someone who loves him deeper than he's ever been loved before. being so awed, so overwhelmed, that seven, eight years later, this is his. he gets to have this.

911 LONE STAR REWATCH 2024 ↳ favorite things I noticed or appreciated more upon rewatch
1.01 Pilot
Carlos by himself at the bar in the background while the 126 celebrate. Something about seeing him just sitting alone in the background hearing them celebrating... he has no idea that in a few months, the group behind him is going to be his family and he won't be sitting alone anymore. 😥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Owen's second marriage... we know very little about it except apparently it was a disaster (and his wife had a thing for knives? hmmm). Rarely am I intrigued by any Owen romance storyline on this show but I would like to learn more about this 2nd wife ngl.
Tumblr media
Paul's exasperated sigh & eye roll when Mateo asks if they put wood in the skincare product. They're already in big brother/little brother roles and they've only been a team for a little while.
Tumblr media
TK in his 252 Firefighter gear... I mean-- c'mon. I might have to make a whole set for this tbh if one doesn't show up on my feed this week lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cowboy Judd. We need judd in his cowboy hat more often. Excited to be on cowboy hat watch 👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of Judd... sir... why are you sitting like this? 😂

Alright, @paperstorm and @liminalmemories21 , based on this post, and your very sweet anon who asked what Carlos thought about TK getting snuggly with his dad:
Carlos is a man who wouldn’t imagine an adult relationship with his father with that much physical contact or intimacy and seeing this very attractive man who has an amazing relationship with his father probably was really, really appealing to Carlos.
We know, now, after four seasons, that Carlos desperately wanted a better relationship with his father than the one he had. When Carlos meets the Strands in 1.01, he finds a father and son team who work together who came down from New York, together, to join the 126. And the idea for Carlos that you could have an active working relationship with your father where the two of you were on the same team and there was as much respect as TK clearly had for his father when Carlos deeply believes his father never wanted him to be in law enforcement because he’s too soft. Carlos Reyes cannot imagine a world in which he is allowed to work with his father and be so unabashedly proud of him.
And then, LATER, at the bar, when Carlos is looking at this man who is actually too attractive to be real, he watches as TK snuggles in and leans on his father, and I agree with @paperstorm that part of this is about touch and that TK is snuggly and this is a good sign. BUT ALSO, that a grown man would cuddle his father in public and his father would ALLOW it. WILD. INCONCEIVABLE. And so very attractive to a man who I think WANTS that.
Which leads me to the part of my essay in which we get to how this leads to 2.04. It’s no secret, I adore 2.04. The lead up from 2.02 when TK is like “you spend so much time around my crazy family, when do I get to meet yours” and Carlos being like “refill?” and then the issue got forced at the farmers market. In the fight that ensues after the farmer’s market, the thing that Carlos says when he explodes is about how not everybody grows up with parents that threw the closet door off the hinges. Because Carlos is deeply envious of TK whose parents didn’t go silent when he came out and then pretended it didn’t happen. He’s envious of a TK who if he had tried to marry a woman a year later would have been like “Ummm….what the actual fuck, TK?” and made him sit and talk about it. (Do I still hate this storyline, yes? But it fits the narrative in this way) and like…not only did you, TK, come out and be accepted and encouraged, but it didn’t put a chasm between you and your parents of what they thought a man should be and what you were.
Like Owen Strand accepts and encourages the man that TK is. He accepts that TK is a gay man who is incredibly physically affectionate with anyone he loves and that’s okay. They still have a physical relationship and it’s not a problem and it’s actually something that is encouraged, meanwhile Carlos hasn’t said an honest thing to his father about who he really is and what he wants outside of showing his father he’s a good cop and a good man. And like, they’re not-not physically affectionate, Gabriel is a hugger, but the hug in 2.08 where Carlos is clearly craving more because his father whispers in his ear about the right kind of instincts still hurts every time, and the way he’s so pleasantly surprised with the hug from his dad in 4.08 after he asks Gabriel to be his best man and they hug for even a little longer and it’s just so happy that it’s relieved almost and that required a lot of work on Carlos and Gabriel’s parts to get there.
And so yeah, I think if we think about who Carlos says he was, and who we knew him to be in season 1, this man who was very clearly locked up in his own sense of who he should be versus who he is at his core, and what he craves. The narrative throughout season 4, that Carlos brings up, is that TK was the key that unlocked a lot of the parts of himself he didn’t accept and wanted to fix. And I think he saw this grown man who is gay and his age having the kind of relationship he wanted with his father and that man’s father not only accepted it but openly encouraged it and wasn’t embarrassed…I think it meant the world to Carlos.
I think he saw TK and not only wanted him but wanted to believe that the life TK had was possible for himself, and he wanted to get there. And damn it he did.
Which I think made it even harder for Carlos, in seasons 1 and 2, who was working to get rid of the idea that the queer parts of him and the parts of him that didn’t live up to the machismo of his community were broken and in need of fixing, to introduce this very unabashedly unashamed person to his parents. In 2.04, Carlos talks a lot about not wanting to shove his gayness in his parents’ faces, because in some ways the concept that being gay is something in him that needed fixing comes from his family and their lack of conversations in the years before TK.
To introduce TK to his family is the chance to have them confirm that they do feel that way, to reject Carlos and TK, to a man who strives for perfection and doing the right thing…terrifying. Not only for Carlos, but for someone to come and wound TK like that. So he avoided it, until he ran right into it…and then was mad because TK gets from Gwyn and Owen something Carlos wants desperately, and TK has always had it. And then to think of Carlos afraid of his parent’s reaction to TK when Gwyn and Owen just like love Carlos unconditionally…yeah…yeah, I think he was into it and envious from the start.
Which makes me want to go rewatch scenes between Carlos and Gabriel for their physicality for more research. Damn it, haven’t wanted to do that in awhile. Also, if the show would kindly retcon the murder of Gabriel Reyes and I can have a redo of the finale with Gabriel as Carlos’s best man (even though I hate that trope and want Carlos to have friends) as the start of season 5 I may start to forgive them.
(Please go watch With, Love to be filled with joy and rage about what we could have had as Benito is at his other gay son’s wedding…)

This episode hit me so hard. As a Muslim woman, I see so much of myself in Marjan and even more so now than ever before.
The way she used to be this shy quiet child that people called Mouse. She hated celebrating herself bc she didn't want to make anyone feel bad but the last words her best friend's mother ever said to her was that she should never hide her light. And she hasn't. On the contrary, she shares her light with the world and uses it to inspire others. There's an added layer to this when you're a Muslim woman. There's so much of yourself you feel you need to hide bc of the way the world treats you. And Marjan felt this way too but she refused to let anyone put her light out. Even when she was being shamed for the video in 1x03 and she struggled with the judgement she faced from someone who should have been among her biggest supporters bc who better to support a Muslim woman than other Muslim women? Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out like that and clearly it didn't for Marjan either. But Marjan never let's anyone shame her for being who she is.
Tumblr media
The fact that she lost her best friend at such a young age and how she has used that grief to save others.* And how she must have been met with so many barriers on her path. In her very first scenes she says she's allergic to poor leadership. The first glimpse we see of her is of her jumping into a lake to save someone else even as her captain yells at her. She also talks about how she finally felt like she got respect after she went viral the first time. Picture it, Marjan decides to become a firefighter so she can save others the way she wishes she'd been able to save her friends. But instead, she is ignored and underestimated and I think we all know why. But she refuses to put up with it. She doesn't let Owen convince her to move immediately even though I'll bet she wanted to. But she make sure that everyone knows she is not someone to take advantage off. And when she does make the move to Austin and the 126, she finally finds a place for herself.
*As a sidenote, I do find it interesting that both Marjan and Judd lost their best friend in a car accident and both the episodes for them took place in the ninth episode of their respective season.
Tumblr media
We see her remorse and her grief over the woman in 2x11. It's so easy to judge her for flexing for the camera during that scene but it's not like she stopped for a photo op. OK maybe it was unprofessional of her to respond to the crowd at all while working but she's allowed to have her flaws like anyone else. Besides, we now know that she wasn't always this confident and it's understandable that sometimes she might go a bit too far with that. I would much rather have Marjan who gets a bit carried away with her confidence at times than a Marjan who stays in the shadows bc she's afraid of what others think. She went from being the little girl known as Mouse to the woman known as Firefox. As Marjan said, people stop her in the streets to thank her for what she does. If she were real, I would be stopping her too.
Tumblr media
That's what made it so painful for Marjan when the Geralds tried to extort her. Yes she did something wrong by calling the woman crazy but she was trying to save her life and the woman was being stupid by insisting on staying. Marjan had a human reaction and she had no problem taking accountability for it. But then they went after two things she puts so much value in. They went after the job she chose so she could save people and they went after the means she uses to share her light with others. They made Marjan doubt herself. They made her feel unsafe even though all she wants is to keep others safe. And they tried to take her platform and make her twist it into something ugly. But Marjan didn't let them. She fought back and she decided that if she can't be herself somewhere then it's better for her to leave. She left the place that she felt so safe bc she no longer felt safe. Despite that, the people that made her feel safe are still there for her.
She fought so hard to keep the firehouse together in s3. Because this was the place where she truly felt accepted and surrounded by people she loved. And Marjan never wants to lose another friend ever again. We see her grief over TK and Paul. Her fear as Owen and TK were on that plane. Now it hits so much harder. And these people really do love her so much. The way they worried about her in this episode. TK immediately thinking to start calling hospitals. Mateo looking at pictures of him and Marjan and being so afraid of losing her. Carlos using all his connections to track her down. Grace helping them look even though she was at work. Owen, Judd and Paul going to look for her and carrying her out of that tunnel. Tommy coming to the hospital afterwards. And all of them wanting to see her in the hospital. Even the doctor remarked on how many people there were to see her.
Tumblr media
I'm so happy that we see she has such supportive loving parents. For a young Muslim girl, this isn't always the case. All too often, they are forced to keep themselves in the background and be quiet. But her parents support her constantly. They obviously supported her when she moved to Austin. They obviously supported her when she decided to end her engagement to Salim. And they taught her to keep true to her faith. Faith has been such an important thing to Marjan since the start and now we see why. For Marjan, it is obviously one of her biggest sources of comfort. No matter what happens, she knows she will never be alone bc she has her faith.
I don't like that they killed that poor old man who was only trying to help but it just goes to show what men like Grant Harlan are like. There are far too many of them out there in real life. As far as I'm concerned, Paul is absolutely right. Grant got what he deserved. Marjan not only saved Kiley's life, she stayed with her after and then sold her bike to give Kiley money to start over. She got her sister to take Kiley in so that she could be sure Kiley would have a place to go and made sure Kiley got onto that bus. Kiley is absolutely right. Marjan is a hero. To Kiley, to the other people she saves, to her friends and family and to people like me
When I first started watching the show, I was very nervous about how they were going to portray Marjan. As Marjan herself questioned, were they just doing it to show off how woke they were? But they have done so well and I am so grateful for that. I love that they have consultants on the show to offer advice. I love how much Natacha puts into Marjan. It means the absolute world.

gwyn's favorite song being the one that it is, is so methodical and well thought out. not only is it gorgeous, (maybe there's some bias, it's my favorite sondheim) but the image of tk growing up, listening to it so many times that he feels it in his bones, is so in touch with his character.
carlos being that someone he has to let in, as seen in the police station scene. carlos being that someone who's feelings he spares, as seen in the juice bar scene when carlos has to ask, "are we even a we?"
carlos being that someone to know him too well, each and every time tk thinks he needs to second guess himself. carlos being that someone who crowds him with love, each and every day that carlos gets to wake up next to him.
carlos being that someone who'll always be there, as frightened as him of being alive; carlos being the person who made him feel whole to the point he's afraid there will always be a of him piece missing if they're not together but that's the risk of love.
tk met carlos, and just like that, his mother's favorite song made sense.

I just typed "chenford" into the new meta ai nonsense thingy on instagram and this is the response it gave me:
Chenford is a popular ship name for the fictional couple Eleanor Chan and Peter Ford from the TV show "9-1-1: Lone Star". The name is a portmanteau of their last names, Chan and Ford. The show explores their romantic relationship and partnership as first responders in the 126 firehouse. The Chenford fandom enjoys shipping them due to their chemistry, trust, and support for each other.
So that's fun, lol. I watch 911 Lonestar... who the hell is Eleanor Chan and Peter Ford? It's one thing to mix up shows but this bot just created random characters out of thin air 🤣

Can we just talk about this for a moment?
We saw the rise of Glasses!Carlos with the Katie Cat kidnapping case (say that ten times fast). And while they continue to make appearances when Carlos is playing the world’s best armchair detective (and when he’s casually reading), even with his complaints about chronic eye strain, we’ve only seen him whip out the glasses in the comfort of his own home. With TK.
Yes, Carlos has been in full Detective Reyes mode all day, trying to track down Marjan. And while that probably involved the return of screen fatigue, what with all the phone maps and laptop police reports, so did scrubbing all that surveillance footage hunting for Owen’s stalker. We didn’t see Carlos in glasses in those scenes with Sadie, even at the loft, but we do here — in a hospital waiting room, with the entire 126 crew. That could be because, much like bringing enough tacos to feed everyone, he’s finally secure enough in his place within this family to show them this side of himself — the Clark Kent instead of the Superman. It could be because they’ve become a full extension of TK in his head — TK, who’s out like a light with Carlos as a pillow, just like he does at home. It could be because he’s just that tired. But it feels like A Decision, whether it’s conscious or not.
Whatever the reason, it’s precious.

cannot get over how including gwyn in the wedding for tk is basically a glimpse into the future for carlos. an important moment not directly witnessed by a loved one but their love still present. because a future after tragedy is possible and it can be beautiful. and tk is not avoiding feeling sad at his own wedding, he chooses to ask tommy for that bittersweet song even though he knows it'll be devastating. but that's part of life. he chooses to remember her and what was important to her. and even the episode itself honors what's most important to her, just knowing what seeing tk like this would mean to her. and that's what a more peaceful future for carlos can look like.

Thinking about this scene and how genuinely good they are for each other. Carlos is so calm and steady and logical and that's such a tonic for TK's incurable lil bitch disease. TK comes in like a wildfire, everything sucks and everyone hates me and I should quit, and Carlos just holds him and kisses his head and lets him be dramatic for a minute, and then gently, lovingly guides TK toward realizing he screwed up and needs to make it right. Carlos doesn't instantly take Nancy's side but he also doesn't let TK get away with blaming her, but it's all done so kindly. He lets TK be who he is, lets him be dramatic and emotional, while softly nudging him toward where he needs to end up.
And then on the other side of that honestly TK being a lil bitch is so good for Carlos, because Carlos has a pretty incurable case of like
Tumblr media
He desperately needed someone to make it okay for him to feel his feelings. TK being overdramatic and histrionic makes their home a safe place for Carlos to express his own emotions, to be sad or hurt or angry and have it be okay. Carlos is so stoic in the first season, and by the second he's so much more comfortable admitting things and crying and being vulnerable, and that's because of TK. They're just!!!! Such wonderful puzzle pieces.

a moment that stuck out to me while rewatching the pilot was tk's reaction when they're visiting the firehouse for the first time, the way he tells owen to call and tell the deputy chief he's changed his mind, they don't belong there. he sees the memorial and the flowers and the way the firehouse is exactly as it was the day that last call came in, and he's immediately horrified at the idea of himself and owen intruding on this grieving process. recognizing that they were invited to austin by higher-ups who have no idea what the loved ones of these men are going through, who now have to be okay with total strangers coming in and making assumptions and thinking they know best how to move forward.
i feel like this is such a good distillation of tk's character, his instinctual selflessness, the way he so easily puts himself in the shoes of others (even people he's never met) and tries to understand from their perspectives. he knows he and his dad have the best intentions but these people may see them as assholes, and that's important to focus on, the impact it could have. it's a brief moment that demonstrates just how deeply tk cares, how aware he is of the priority being helping people. treading lightly, not adding to their pain while they're already grieving, caring for them by making them feel heard, no matter how that looks.

I don’t think it’s appreciated enough just how good TK must be at sex. I mean, after their hook-up Carlos is just laying on that uncomfortable looking couch basking...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TK literally sexed him stupid because when TK brushes off Carlos’ attempts at round 2 with some obvious, weak ass excuses... this man just stares at TK’s ass, nods, and smiles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
... like yep, uh huh, whatever you say... and then when TK runs out the door as if there’s a house on fire he needs to get to, Carlos barely notices, just.. “text me!”
Tumblr media
don’t know what sex magic took place there but... TK is clearly cocky for a reason.
