gregkoltz Next week, the 2024 ISU World Figure Skating Championships will be held in Montreal. Canada last hosted the event in London, Ontario, in 2013. I have very fond memories of photographing Virtue & Moir on home ice back then, and I can’t wait to capture more memorable moments at the Bell Centre in a few days! Spotlight on Markus Anderson + SOHO House
Hi Skippy & Friends-Pilgrim here thinking it is ABOUT TIME an intense spotlight unearths the truth of what has been going on at SOHO Houses since their beginning in London. We do know their specially designed wallpaper that looked like flowers was really private body parts up close. We have read and deducted that Markle basically lived in them, having her own place to store luggage in London. Didn’t JH describe in Spare being taken thru secret hallways to get to her door? Together Markus & Markle, who act like friends with hot benefits in photos, enjoy playing gaslighting games together. It seems he can go either way as it has been written he had a fling with Edward Enniful-who did the disastrous Vogue issue with Markle and is just now retiring as the editor-in-chief of British Vogue. As for her, well, she sends wedding rings back in manila envelopes saying it’s over while having been living with the new guy and is in the process of moving onto the next victim. She changes religion with a snap of her fingers. Don’t forget all those foreign business trips to famous playgrounds on yachts in-between, proudly photographed and presented on her Tig site as if she was on her own dime- sure Jan. 6 degrees of separation with this group is more like 2.
We do know that Markus Anderson was born in Ontario, not far from a private school a 17-year-old Randy Andy attended for one semester. (Hmmmmm-dare I wonder about the older, half-brother/cousin possibility?) Anderson started impressing the bosses at Toronto’s SOHO House and is now their global membership director helping drive the company’s international expansion. He was/is? the guy rich patrons called looking for easy, classy, hook-ups. From the U.S. Sun, “He started working for the company as a waiter but quickly moved up through the ranks, turning his hand to practically every position at the company on his way up the ladder. The stylish chap is the right-hand man to company CEO Nick Jones and personally crafts the guest lists to some of the biggest celebrity parties - including an annual Oscars bash. He was named one of Toronto Life’s 50 Most Influential in 2014.”
We do know he and Markle have been in cahoots for years, (she went to Toronto for Suits in 2011) travelling together often. I have so many questions about this man it’s not funny. He was photographed at the Montecito polo fields babysitting a weird acting Markle, seemingly calming down tempers after a huge fight. He was THE one ushering Markle closer to Prince Harry, be it polo matches in the UK, parties with international magnates or the 2017 Invictus Games. He was one of 4 who was in the IG’s suite waiting for the prince to come up and say a formal GOODBYE to Meghan but instead, was met by Doria who told PH what was reeeallly going to happen. He was the one who gladly showed up at her half million-dollar, bogus baby shower in Manhattan to take her out to dinner. She told the paps what door to be at and they were photographed as she walked out NOT wearing the huge baby bump she sported when she arrived! He is the one who babysat her now orphaned dogs staying behind in Canada. He was around so much many said he was living with them starting on Vancouver Island. I even think Archie looks just like HIM! I’m referring to the child shown off with Rev. Tutu and reading the Duck/Rabbit book. This whole dang thing stinks to high heaven.
Yes, shine a big spotlight on this man and company. If short sellers discover there is not enough to sure up the value of their stocks…well then SELL!!!
Thank you Pilgrim!  Great post!!!!❤️

Photographs taken by Yon Shimizu, a Japanese-Canadian who was exiled from the west coast of Canada to Ontario during the second World War, along with hundreds of other Japanese-Canadian men. In 1942, he worked along with several dozen other men as a farm labourer with the Ontario Farm Service Force near Glencoe, equidistant from Sarnia, London and Chatham.  These are photographs he took of the sugarbeet harvest, and were digitized from a DVD of Yon Shimizu’s scrapbook by the Southwestern Ontario Digital Archive. All dated 1942 though they definitely show a range of time during that summer and fall - final harvesting of sugarbeets is in late October or November, and the last photo shows the men huddling from the cold in November.

King Street, a major eastward route in central London, dug up yet again. Road construction seems poorly coordinated in London Ontario, with roads being fully destroyed, repaired, then dug up again a few months later, multiple major roads in the same area with construction at the same time, necessitating lengthy detours, and roads often closed for long periods with cones although no work is being done on them. Background on the owner of the private jet
Marc Ganzi is an American businessman. He is the President and CEO of DigitalBridge, and is the founder and former CEO of Digital Bridge Holdings and Global Tower Partners. He is also a polo player.
He received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He interned in the White House for Stephen M. Studdert, special advisor to President George H. W. Bush in 1989. In 1990, Ganzi served as an assistant Commercial Attaché in Madrid for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Foreign Commercial Service Department.
After graduation, Ganzi bought distressed real estate for Resolution Trust Corporation. He worked at Deutsche Bank, where he oversaw investments in the radio tower sector.
In 1993, he co-founded AD Development Corporation, a real estate development company in the Mid-Atlantic states, where he worked until 1994. He co-founded Apex Site Management, which was purchased by SpectraSite, and he served as group president for a year. In 1998, Ganzi founded Eureka Broadband, an application service provider and high-speed Internet access corporation. From 2000 to 2002, he was a partner in DB Capital Partners in New York City.
In 2003, he founded Global Tower Partners, a telecommunications company headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. He served as its Chief Executive Officer and built the company into the largest privately held operator of U.S. cell towers. The company was purchased by Macquarie Group (ASX: MQG) in 2007, and, in 2013, American Tower Corporation (NYSE: AMT) acquired GTP for $4.8 billion.
In 2013, Ganzi and Ben Jenkins founded Digital Bridge Holdings, an investor and operator of mobile and internet connectivity companies. Digital Bridge Holdings was acquired by Colony Capital in 2019, where Ganzi took over as CEO-elect. On July 1, 2020, he became CEO and President of Colony Capital. In 2021, the company rebranded to become DigitalBridge, a digital infrastructure investment firm, and he remained in those respective positions.
DigitalBridge Group, Inc. is a global digital infrastructure investment firm. The company owns, invests in and operates businesses such as cell towers, data centers, fiber, small cells, and edge infrastructure. Headquartered in Boca Raton, DigitalBridge has key offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Singapore.
In 2010, DigitalBridge, then still Colony Capital, was reported to manage about $30 billion in investments. In 2011, DigitalBridge was tied for 3rd largest private equity real estate fund in the world, behind Blackstone Group and Morgan Stanley Real Estate
Colony purchased Raffles International on July 18, 2005. This included the 41 hotels and resorts operated under the Raffles Hotel and Swissotel brand names. On January 30, 2006, it acquired Fairmont Hotels and Resorts of Toronto, Ontario with Kingdom Hotels International as a joint partner for US$3.24 billion.[citation needed] On April 10, 2006, it acquired French professional football team Paris Saint-Germain.
On November 11, 2008, Michael Jackson transferred the title of his 2,700 acre estate Neverland Ranch to Sycamore Valley Ranch Company LLC, a joint venture between Jackson (represented by attorney, L. Londell McMillan) and an affiliate of Colony Capital. It is still unclear whether Colony Capital has a part in the property. Jackson earned a total of US$35 million when he agreed to the joint venture between himself and Colony Capital.
In March 2010, Colony arranged a financing and marketing package for Annie Leibovitz. The New York celebrity photographer had been in financial difficulty and in danger of losing to her previous lender, ArtCapital, the rights to her photographs and negatives and her three Greenwich Village townhouses. ArtCapital's credit was for $24 million. In December 2010, Colony purchased Miramax from Disney with Qatar Investment Authority, Tutor-Saliba Corporation and The Weinstein Company as part of a joint venture called Filmyard Holdings for $663 million.
In September 2017, Colony NorthStar agreed to sell its Townsend Group unit to Aon for $475 million.
In October 2017, Colony entered discussions to purchase The Weinstein Company, a movie and TV production studio that sustained damage after its co-founder, Harvey Weinstein, was accused of multiple counts of sexual harassment over three decades. In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal, in late October 2017, it was reported that Colony Capital LLC had proved hesitant to purchase Weinstein Co. after a week of exclusive negotiations. Fortress Investment Group was also in talks to provide a loan to Weinstein Co.
In June 2018, The New York Times reported that Colony North Star had raised more than $7 billion in investments since Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election. 24 percent of the money came from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
In April 2022, DigitalBridge bought out Wafra’s stake in its investment management subsidiary for $800 million and switched from REIT to traditional C-Corp. DigitalBridge announced and initiated several acquisitions during 2022 including AMP Capital's global infrastructure equity investment management business for $328 million and Switch, Inc., a data center company, for $11 billion. The firm sold 27 percent of its stake in DataBank to Swiss Life and EDF Invest for $1.2 billion. DigitalBridge said it would own 15.5 percent of DataBank after the sale.
Thanks!
He looks a lot like that Mark Dyer guy that used to keep tabs on Harry.

Reading about Stanley Baldwin led me, as serendipity does, to the Mitford sisters, whom, coincidentally, I not long ago started listening to an audiobook about (Laura Thompson’s “The Six: The Lives of The Mitford Sisters" - US title is "Take Six Girls..." Also, see enjoyable interview with Thompson here). The link between them is the gathering of several sisters with remarkable societal connections: Baldwin's mother, Louisa, was one of the famous 19th century MacDonald sisters (I mentioned them in the blog years ago - link here - in a post featuring an exquisite painting of a woman reading a book, comfortably ensconced in a beautifully decorated home). Two of the MacDonald women married famous artists, one of them being Sir Edward John Poynter, painter of said portrait, while Alice's marriage spawned famous author, Rudyard Kipling.
The Mitford sisters were 20th century; the eldest, Nancy, ("the Novelist"), was born in 1904, the youngest, Deborah, ("the Duchess") was born 16 years later. There was a brother, too, as can be seen in the photograph above. The family were supremely well-connected in "high society". Related to Winston Churchill through Clementine, was the father, David Mitford, 2nd Baron Redesdale - he and the British Prime Minister's wife were cousins. Deborah became close friends with US President John F. Kennedy and his family, and Jessica, living in California, knew his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson. All the siblings had fascinating, though somewhat unenviable, lives and with Unity ("the Nazi") the story takes a particularly tragic turn.
She moved to Germany to get close to Adolf Hitler, which whom she had become obsessed, and managed to work her way into his inner circle. Apparently, he was quite smitten with her. She shot herself in the head when Britain declared war, but survived with brain damage, dying a few years later from meningitis due to complications regarding the bullet still lodged inside her (age: 33). Unity's middle name was Valkyrie, and she was born in the town of Swastika, Ontario, in Canada, where her family had gold mines - it's as though her fate appeared to have written itself. According to Diana Mosley’s biographer, Jan Dalley: "Hitler was extremely superstitious, and he believed that Unity was sort of sent to him, it was destined", and he described the young blonde as "a perfect specimen of Aryan womanhood."*
Diana married British fascist Sir Oswald Mosley, with whom she was interned at Holloway Prison between May 1940** and November 1943. She had just given birth to her fourth child, Max Mosley, in the April of that year, and he and his older brother Alex were not included in the internment. Meanwhile, Jessica, (noted in the photograph as her nickname 'Decca') became a Communist and was known as "the red sheep" of the family, and Nancy, a moderate socialist, worked in London during the Blitz and informed on her fascist siblings to the British authorities.*** By comparison, Pamela was the quietest sister, often referred to as "the rural one", but still has a colourful biography of her own, by marrying a bisexual, womanising millionaire and being rumoured herself to having been involved in a long-term relationship with a woman.
Unsurprisingly, reams have been written about this extraordinary family and I have much more to learn. Their lives were so fantastical, almost the stuff of soap operas or melodramas, seemingly unreal; one writer, Anthony Haden-Guest, sums up their existence well as being one "even the most shameless pulp novelist would hardly dare invent."
*Source: Wikipedia cites a Channel 4 documentary called 'Hitler's British Girl' from 2007.
**Source: Wikipedia, dates vary slightly on related pages. I think it was May for Mosley and June for Diana.
***Source: "Nancy Mitford spied on sisters", article by Paul Reynolds, BBC News, 2003. Cited on Wikipedia.
Needs checking. Further reading required.
Disclaimer: I should write all my posts on a Word document first and wait a while before publishing, to ensure I've got the thing edited and fully formed, but I don't. Patience is not my forté.

Blog 9: The most amazing thing you know about nature!!!
It is hard for me to pinpoint exactly what I would consider the most amazing thing I know about nature. I feel like every time I learn something new about the natural world around me, it immediately becomes the coolest thing, occupying most of my brain. I previously wrote about the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition I saw at the Royal Ontario Museum. It is an annual international photography competition and exhibition operated by the Natural History Museum in London. The competition aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of the natural world while also highlighting conservation issues. Photographers from all over the world submit their best wildlife and nature photographs. Since visiting the exhibit I have been thinking about many of the photos and the topics highlighted within them.
One image that stood out to me from this exhibit was called ‘Death in Waiting’, captured by Pietro Formis, a photographer from Italy. He captures an image of a fish called a ‘stargazer’ patiently waiting for smaller fish to prey upon. The photograph was highly commended in the competition, partially due to it’s uniqueness, but also because of how cautious the photographer had to be to not disturb the Stargazer.
The Stargazer fish, with its distinctive appearance and predatory prowess, inhabits sandy or muddy seabeds across various oceans worldwide. It has a flattened body with upward-facing eyes that make it a master of camouflage, allowing it to lie in wait for unsuspecting prey to pass by. With lightning-fast reflexes, the Stargazer employs suction to engulf its victims, which typically include smaller fish, crustaceans, and bottom-dwelling organisms. Some species of Stargazers possess venomous spines, adding a potent defense mechanism to their already formidable arsenal. Despite their relatively small size, these enigmatic creatures play a significant role in their marine ecosystems, contributing to biodiversity and serving as both predator and prey. The Stargazer's unique adaptations and mysterious allure make it a captivating subject for study and observation in the underwater world.
Learning about this creature unlocked a new fear for me, but I still think it is amazing how they patiently wait in the sand until the perfect opportunity arises. There are so many amazing things in nature, and I truly believe the most amazing thing is how much we don’t know, and how much we have to discover!

Two Essential Appliances in Intraoral Photograpy
Tumblr media
Based in London, Ontario, Ghasaq Al-Bakkal, DMD, maintains the Belmont Dental Clinic (belmontdentalclinic.ca), where he provides a comprehensive range of dental care services. In addition to providing low radiation x-rays, Ghasaq Al-Bakkal, DMD, also takes intraoral photographs that fully map the teeth and gums before and after procedures.
Intraoral imagery is facilitated by accessories such as cheek retractors, which retract aspects of the mouth such as the lips, labial mucosa (inner lip lining), and buccal mucosa (soft mucous membrane tissues extending from lips and cheeks). In removing these soft tissue structures from field of view, the cheek retractors provide an unimpeded view of the teeth and allow more light into the oral cavity.
Another accessory is the intraoral mirror, which is essential for occlusal view images (posterior teeth chewing surface) and buccal view images (tooth surface facing towards the cheek), which are challenging to directly view. Available in a range of sizes and often with handles, they offer reflected images of these difficult-to-access areas that can be photographed.
