oooooo please tell me (who knows nothing on the subject) about orv swap au
hehehe. hehehehehehe. hehehehehehehhehehehhheheheh <- guy who is so normal
the premise of orv swap au (name has yet to be finalized) is this: what if kdj and yjh swapped narrative positions (reader <-> character) but very little else? what if a video game player enters a time loop to save his favorite character from dying over and over again and also to end the apocalypse?
admittedly it's not super fleshed out yet (a lot of the changes this premise would introduce are still not hammered out yet) but here are some points under the cut (novel spoilers ahead!)
orv swap au starts with pro gamer yjh who feels :/ abt his job, but hey, it pays the bills. despite (or maybe because of) his relative popularity as a pro gamer and networking with the agency/sponsors/people to impress, he's kind of isolated in a way that's detrimental, a facade of someone he's not whenever he's on camera
something to play around with is the idea of agency? maybe this yjh doesn't feel like he has any and has his hands tied between the lifestyle and being under public scrutiny and not having enough of a support system to leave everything behind. maybe he doesn't know what else he would even do. maybe he's aimless and drifting with nothing to hold on to.
his favorite video game is what i've been thinking of as World's Hardest To Play Indie Game (not based on difficulty but just on the experience of consuming it) a boring, exposition heavy, player-hostile, poorly designed, slightly buggy mess of a barely-playable game: twsa, a game that was not finished upon release and experiences with sporadic updates every now and then.
the ending tree to this game is so convoluted its insane. also theres no save states so if you die (very likely) u restart babeyyy.
twsa (video game) does have multiple endings, all of which happen when kdj, your main character, dies. some are farther into the apocolypse than others, some paths require meta knowledge of future events or character actions or items or whatever. the "true ending" is either analogous to the original 1863: kdj makes it to the end at the cost of everyone he loves, or hsy's modified 1863: kdj makes himself enemy of the scenario to secure a way out for the kimcom remnants.
there's branches on the choices tree where everyone dies and everything sucks and is bad forever and theres choices to make where kdj gets to make a family and they don't really get to settle down but they can get pretty close to it among the ruins of the apocalypse. through all his testing, yjh finds that these endings are nice but peter out - to get to the end of the apocalypse yjh has to claw his way there inch by painful inch, through betrayal and sacrifice, and he still cant fully get past it
i originally wanted to finagle a yoohankim 3 way swap but i couldn't figure it out. swap aus are a lot easier to work with when they're even numbers, at least to me, so this au features a ysa who is a video game company employee by day and by night she really has become god this time (and also a terrible indie dev). and this is how jungdoksang can still win !!!!
also yjh's coworker from Real Life hsy :) i haven't decided if she's like an employee for the same agency, or if she's someone else in the gaming circles that yjh interacts with sometimes (in my heart theyre in like some sort of discord server together), or something like that but she's around. whatever she does she is twitter cancelled for something. to me.
the only other character swaps are lsk and yma. yma is yjh's estranged sister (in broad strokes there's a vague bad parent situation going on here) (they used to be close until they drifted apart and slowly started hating each other [there is an abyss between them that neither of them can bridge]) (he feels that she betrayed him and threw him under the bus so he left [maybe he gets kicked out]) (she feels that he abandoned her to whatever situation they have going on [he didn't even try to take her with him]) and he has to find her when the apocalypse starts. yjh older sibling to yma gives us a whole different little dynamic to explore from kdj ysk (there's different levels of responsibility and guilt and blame when you're talking siblings that are soooooo interesting to me. sorry that i see any set of siblings and immediately try to figure out how to make them worse)
lsk is kdj's mom who appeared into existence at some point with kdj and they were both just adults. that's weird isn't it. oh well. i guess she can become a transcendent later too for funsies
everyone else stays in the same configuration of Real Person vs Character to me this is a very important aspect
this point has no precedent with the swap, nothing particular that would change to cause this, but it would be so funny if lgy was a little gamer boy who is an avid yjh hater. hates that guy. shows up to competitions to boo him. tunes into yjh's silent no-mic speedrunning streams to mald in chat but yjh +mods don't ban him bc its kinda funny.
anyways the apocalypse starts when yjh and his coworker/fellow gamer hsy are on a train to twitchcon and lgy is also there (also headed to twitchcon) and he brings bugs because he likes them but also to sabotage yjh specifically. its just funny if this happened. you understand
instead of having reader-related skills and abilities, yjh's skills are video game player based! he gets flavor text insight on people, location, and items, things like that. notably, he has the ability to reset, to bring himself back to the beginning of the apocalypse
orv swap proper follows yjh as the Player of the Game (Consumer of the Narrative) who lives hundred of lifetimes in this ruined-world-become-reality "replaying" [read: time looping through] the game to reshape it to save his fave character from self implosion (kdj with no dissociation is very prone to dying. all the time.). to revisit the idea of playing with yjh and the idea of agency, of creation, the only way to get past the apocalypse is to go off the beaten path, to choose options that weren't even there in the game. when in space, at his darkest point, yjh becomes a writer. in this story, at his darkest point, he has to become a creator too
please do not ask me how the epilogues go i dont know how the epilogues go (i don't want to throw yjh back into a train for milennia after he Just went through a thousand resets so i'm sending kdj for that but i havent fully planned how or why)

i took the switcheroo week as an excuse to finally try my hand at some scrybeswap designs! got a bit carried away as you can see, i love doing character design so much
decided to keep their species/major design elements fairly consistent (e.g. grimora's makeup, mag being vague and indistinct, leshy having nonhuman legs, p03 only having one arm) while still switching up their aesthetics as needed; super happy with all of these as a result!
design notes for each scrybe under the cut! def open to any further questions or curiosities, i always think way too hard about characters while designing them lmao
P03:
scrybe of the dead: i went for a possessed tv vibe; he's still mechanical but those bones do have a living soul trapped in them...also shoutout to @squid-hug for suggesting the x-ray machine, i was very tickled by that lmao
scrybe of beasts: overgrown old bot was kind of a given for this one, but i was also thinking that the plants are part of what's keeping him running somehow
scrybe of magicks: the magic eye is the core powering that top monitor, and the two side monitors display what he's seeing with that eye at any given time
grimora:
scrybe of beasts: she's a witch! like a chill terry pratchett kind of witch, she works with a lot of herbs and such; also her makeup is meant to mimic blood drops
scrybe of magicks: magick grimora is more of a warlock type, her magic is a lot more sinister and she almost never opens her eyes (whereas her third eye is basically always open)
scrybe of tech: tech grimora is kind of a wacky machinist-flavored dr. frankenstein; she inscribes by writing on circuitboards!
leshy:
scrybe of the dead: this leshy is a gargoyle/vampire hybrid! i thought a mirror would be fun for him bc you can get two different cultural refs; medusa (bc stone gargoyle), and the idea that vampires don't appear in mirrors!
scrybe of magicks: i decided to make him a bird guy (kinda harpy-esque) bc he's basically a more whimsical baba yaga hermit; the baba yaga thing carries over from slavic folklore obvs. also he has polycoria!
scrybe of tech: tech leshy was super fun, bc he's steampunk! rather than animal legs i gave him digitigrade robot legs, but other than that he's the most like, normal human guy here probably lmao; despite his well-adjusted appearance though i still think he's got a bit of freaky wonk in him
magnificus:
scrybe of the dead: this one was very ring-inspired lol, got those clump of hair you found in the shower drain vibes
scrybe of beasts: bush magnificus real! i think he'd be a bit more quirky trickster fae in this form
scrybe of tech: one of my favorites; tech mag is an emaciated cyborg draped in so many loose cords and wires that you can't tell what he looks like anymore. a lot of those cords are connected to him, and he plugs them in wherever as needed! he also has a drawing stylus, making him just an average art student tbh lmao

how about carmy x reader that has a bad relationship with her dad. just hates him, doesn’t really care bc he never did, and the guy comes around looking to start stuff because he feels entitled to a piece of her life. how would carmy react?
carmen would be like "and who tf are you?" esp depending on the situation. he's not letting that happen. he tries to be respectful and not intervene, but the second you're like "he won't leave me alone!" carmen's like ok got it handled.
i feel like he'd try to be like fuck off and don't come back, but tbh if that didn't work... i mean carmen's got a secret weapon who happens to love you. uncle jimmy lol. uncle jimmy who is DEF not in the mafia ;) uncle jimmy who adores you because you make carmen happy and you're always so nice to him. uncle jimmy who sees how you care for carmen his family, which automatically makes you apart of his family.
carmen doesn't want to do it. jimmy comes to check on the restaurant, get his check for the month when he sees carmen just anxious.
"kid, you alright? you good? what's goin' on? please tell me it's an easy fuckin' fix, alright?"
and carmen's just shaking his head. "no, no. it's, uh, it's... you know i told you her father's been back?"
"yeah?" jimmy's demeanor drops at the mention of you in that tone.
"he's not... fuck, he won't leave her alone! i tried to talk to him, ya know? man to man all that bullshit fuckin' richie told me to do. tell him to fuck off, she's not helpin' him. and he shows up at the restaurant last night. waits out back for her. she was screamin', scared the shit outta all of us." carmen ranted.
"wait, wait, carm, hold on." jimmy holds up his hand. "he put his hands on her?"
"no, no, i woulda killed him." carmen's jaw flexed at the thought. "he just... he won't leave her alone. i know it bothers her more than she acts like it does and-"
"-i'l' handle it." jimmy said firmly. "gimme the guys name."
carmen blinks. "no, i-i can handle it."
"carm, i mean this very nicely, ok? this shitbag ain't gonna listen to you, alright? he's not fucked off by now, it's time for me to handle it. don't worry, he won't bother either one of you again." jimmy said very coolly. "gimme his name."
carmen hesitates before he does, jimmy nodding curtly. "uncle jimmy, listen, you're not... you're not gonna, like, kill him-"
"-what? no, carm don't be ridiculous." jimmy rolls his eyes. "i'm just gonna make sure he leaves the state of illinois and doesn't come back. ok?" carmen nods slowly. "good. i'm gonna make a call. tell that sweetheart not to worry anymore, ok?"
carmen just sorta nods, watching jimmy slip out the back. richie comes by, blabbering about something when he sees carmen blinking off into space. "cousin, you good?"
"yeah... yeah, um, i told jimmy a-about her dad and all that." carmen blinks up at richie. "he said he's gonna handle it."
richie pauses before cackling, head thrown back gripping his chest. "oh, cousin, no way. no fuckin' way. you're serious?" carmen nods. "yeah, that guys done. gettin' whacked for sure."
"no, he-he said he wouldn't-"
"-yeah, jimmy won't. his fuckin' goons will." richie snickers. "well, guess that handles your problem, right?"
"i didn't fuckin' want him to-"
"-look, cousin, you call an exterminator, what're they gonna do, huh? what do you expect?" richie snorts.

besides the gang it's all volunteers until later down the line when gustav, heather, dagur, eret, & bayana get hired!!! :) everyone else is volunteer!! gustav wants to work there so bad & eventually becomes part-time but never decides to go full time!
dagur rlly steps in once the majority of the gang are away at uni a lot of the time (they try to work on weekends & def work throughout school breaks & stuff!! but it's mostly snotlout, gustav, & dagur by that point (u shall see in snotstrid fic ;)) but it's also how dagur sees gustav and is like; ah yes. younger sibling (adds to list).
OH they absolutely have a calendar. astrid & fishlegs made the calendar bc no one else could be bothered to keep track of everything.
hiccup is in charge, he hates office work tho, despite needing to make sure they have enough sponsors/donors for things like electric bill, water bill, buying all the food the dragons need, medical supplies, etc!! also paying the gang (and himself) altho i should say they don't get paid much. some of them get second jobs!!
i should mention: when hiccup is like. 15 he "runs" the sanctuary but it's actually stoick LOL
they also absolutely have a whiteboard for notes. ofc it desolves into chaos with so many different notes that half the time don't pertain to anything anyone is doing that the sanctuary. they get silly rlly quick lol. there's an on-going tic tac toe game & no one knows who's who anymore & it keeps ending as a cat's game (aka no winner). one time they spent a week playing hangman LOL.
and they all take turns doing field work (going out and trying to search for dragons to either study/tag or bring back due to injury). astrid is in charge of operations in terms of scheduling work, shipments, etc!! fishlegs is basically the Nurse (and later ruff as well!!)
they also have their specific specialities with dragon classes. (hiccup - strike class, astrid - sharp & tracker class, fishlegs - boulder, snotlout - stoker class, ruffnut & tuffnut - tidal class & mystery class (respectively, altho they just team everything together for their stuff)
eret becomes part of tidal class with ruff (esp once she starts doing more of the medical stuff!) & tracker class with astrid, dagur helps wherever tbh, i'm open to assigning him a class tho if anyone has suggestions!! heather helps take over sharp class (astrid's load rlly gets lessened bc she becomes a primary spokeperson with hiccup & travels with him for interviews & stuff to talk abt the sanctuary & dragon conservation!!). bayana helps tuff with mystery class!! gustav helps with stoker class :)
they just act like they do in rtte when they're screwing around from unnecessary comments from the peanut gallery to pranking one another (some pull pranks more than others...) & they also are not afraid to get the dragons involved (who fucking love it).
esp in the tidal class dragon area there's a HUMONGOUS water area & ppl have gotten shoved in. someone's shoe has been down at the bottom for almost three months and no one knows who's shoe it is. they all have no clue what they're doing tbh but make it work <3
ofc they also have a work group chat that quickly devolves into stupid memes snotlout & the twins spam the chat with & hiccup is constantly scolding them to STAY ON TOPIC THIS IS THE WORK GROUP CHAT. and then dagur joins in and continues to send memes. the memes eventually become how they respond to specific work stuff & hiccup gives up.
the gang like to eat lunch together outside & surrounded by dragons :) it's a rare quiet moment for all of them & they're still goofy obv but sometimes they'll just sit & eat :)

Grey’s Season 19 Finale
Just some random thoughts (I’ve watch these eps in so many parts over the day, I forgot half of it already):
- I never bought the “Simone is actually getting married to someone else” so the first ep came with little surprises. I honestly don’t care that much about that story altogether (mostly because I find Simone the least interesting new intern), but I guess I’m happy for Lucas.
- Yasuda and Helm are cute together. I’m glad those writers picked up on my suggestion all those months ago (now where’s my check? lol, jk). That first kiss was both fun and adorable (and I have to admit: quite original).
- I like Blue, too. Haven’t really made up my mind about Jules. (Which I guess isn’t a good thing, after 20 episodes?)
- Is it just me, or did Hunt make the wrong choice at the end? I get that it’s his wife on the floor, but everyone can do cpr, while he’s the only surgeon in there who might save the patient.
- I know addiction never really goes away, but tbh I’m a bit done with Webber and Amelia taking turns in relapsing.
- Can we leave Mer and Nick in Boston now?
(side note: I personally can also do without Mer’s voice-over by now. They were great for about, idk, 6 to 8 seasons, but these days I don’t even hear them anymore. If they must keep them, than just give them to someone who’s actually on the show.)
- I’m not really shipping Link and Jo, (and I still prefer Link and Amelia), but I don’t hate them, and things were taking too long anyway, (and kissing in the rain always helps), so I guess yay them!
- Bailey getting that award wasn’t just spoilered, but also filmed too obviously (hadn’t I known). Poor directing, I guess. But good for her!!
- Altogether this season still didn’t get close to the first ten (or so), but imho it was def better than the last three (or so). The new interns are an asset and prove that some change, especially after this long, isn’t always bad. Curious for what’s next in season 20! (holy f*ck, I can’t believe I’ve been watching this show for almost two decades...)

ok so i deffo think they ar e matesprits BUT i think they never liie. clearly confirmwd it while aradia was alive. and once she became ghost aradia i think she got so distant and aloof (i think thats the right word?) about everytuing that it made sollux feel like she disnt love him anymore, and he eventually just had to move on, even thouvh it hurt. and feferi was there, not necessarily as a "rebound" but as a shoulder to cry on. someone for sollux to confide in, and to listen to him because he didnt have anyonw else he felt like woild. and i feel like feferi was def nto him and wanted to be his matesprit but i think sollux wasnt really. and i think they developed a kind of mixed/blurred lines relationship and the whole ghost and aradiabot phases pushed him and aradia furhter apart because aradia was dealinf wth so so much and in turn sollux was dealinf with the loss of his presumed (unofficial, wtv) matesprit, because that wasnt the aradia he knew and had fallen in love with. the ghost thing wasnt a bother - he loved her, not her physical form - it was the personality shift, i think.
and so when she reached god tier and regained her body nd her sense of identity, ithink they started to rekindle what they had nefore, if that makes sense? like aradia was his aradia again, an aradia interested in life and adventuee and archaeology and not this stupid, stupid game and suddenly not everything felt like it was collapsing around him and he felt like things could be okay again. and she helped him and he helped her and together they did make thinfs okay again. with each other.
and i think aradia's living>ghost>aradiabot>godtier timeline is a good allegory for depression and how it can absolutely shatter your sense of self and strip your world of colour and how that can make you push people away and self isolate and whatnot. idk thats just how i see it but :3 yea
