I really don’t understand this mindset that runs in film YouTubers’ people’s heads that the biggest problem with Stranger Things is that the writers refuse to kill off main characters???? my dude it’s not their inability to kill off characters that’s the problem it’s their affinity for introducing way too many characters to the cast in the first place and then not knowing what the fuck to do with them afterwards

Honestly if Byler isn't requited I am going to be angry because the writers spent so much time on creating this drama for no reason. We could have easily had Will and Mike be normal friends, there was no need to introduce Will's love for Mike in anyway. It's just going to be a needless plot point and needless queer suffering if he's gonna get rejected or get over Mike in S5. Especially because the writers could have easily introduced a love interest for Will in S3 or S4. They keep introducing new characters and make them compelling enough by giving him certain roles in the story, but they couldn't introduce a solid character and love interest for Will? Like they introduced Suzie and she's fine enough, she's got to play a nice role in the plot. They introduced Argyle, he's a fun character and he helps the gang.
They could have easily introduced a new character in this season or before and could have made that character Will's love interest. Heck, maybe he could have been Argyle's little sibling or something? And Will could have met him through Jonathan because Jonathan and Argyle are friends so Will gets introduced to Argyle's sibling and they start to have a crush on each other. Maybe Argyle's brother could help the gang back from California by making them solve certain mysteries and stuff even if he cannot come to Hawkins with them.
This way, Will doesnt have feelings for Mike but he's just worried and struggles about being gay and opening up to his friends. Mike and Will stay as normal and nice friends, there is not tension or drama between them. Will isn't involved in Melvin's relationship drama. There is no pointless queer suffering for Will, Melvin is written in a sensible way. Mike, El and Will's arcs and relationship dynamics make sense without pointless drama. I would love this. Everyone would love this. And no one would have a problem with it whatsover.
Then Will could have returned to Cali again and met Argyle's brother (Let's call him Carlos or something) and then they could have been given more screen time together. See? Not so hard to write. Carlos would have an actual personality and a role to play in the story just like Suzie and Argyle, and he would be a fun character like Argyle too maybe. Everyone would love that and be fine with it.
That's not the writers chose to write however.
yeah…they could’ve taken it in a different direction from season 3 onwards if they really wanted to. i know will’s feelings for mike were built up from season 1, but they still weren’t very explicit till around season 3. there was still some scope for them to give will a different love interest, if they really really wanted to. however, they clearly didn’t do this.
will is the only one in the party without a significant other. it would be incredibly cruel for him to go through so much suffering and trauma, just for him to end up getting rejected by the boy he loves so much. it would be so wrong in so many ways, which is why i really hope they go through with byler.
