New characters!
The muns’ minds are always busy with new characters so here’s an introduction to the characters you’ll be seeing in our stories or have already come across them.
Lance Emerson
Face claim: Julian McMahon
Tumblr media
Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Lance’s childhood was comfortable and filled with privilege. His mother was the COO (chief operator officer) of a corporation, and his father a traveling businessman—both came from well-to-do backgrounds. Lance was the first-born son out of five children and was the clear favorite. Living in a gated community, he attended the most prestigious private schools the country had to offer. Money was never an issue for him or his siblings, but he was well aware that his parents gave him the biggest allowance of them all, and he had more freedom to do whatever he wished. He developed an aggressive and superficially passionate charisma that drew people to him like moths to a flame. This gained him plenty of followers who admired his sharp wit and business perception that he learned from his parents.

Rory Hawthorne
Face claim: Jensen Ackles
Tumblr media
The biological brother of Leon, Rory was only five years old when he lost his life. Both boys carried the skin-walker gene, but only one of them would be allowed to embrace it; the other had to die.
Rory's young soul was sent to Purgatory, when he was forced to quickly adapt to a strange, dark world where only the strong survived. After much running and hiding, Rory came across a collective of monsters, lost souls like him. They took him under their wing and taught him how to fight. During this time, Rory was able to adapt to his surroundings and develop his own, unusual powers. The rage he felt toward his own brother had never left him, and thus created malevolent energy within. While his physical body died at the tender age of five, his spiritual body grew into adulthood.

It turned out he was being mentally influenced by the creatures watching them from the woods. These were not normal vampires – they were more like wild animals. By the time the attack was done, both kids were seriously injured and had lost a lot of blood. Thankfully, Cassandra has come home not too long after the vampires had run off and she called an ambulance to try and save their lives.

‘Every second counts.’ Cities turn to cyclists to save lives
By Jenni Bergal, Washington Post, February 4, 2017
When actress Carrie Fisher suffered cardiac arrest near the end of a flight to Los Angeles just before Christmas, some of the first emergency medical crews to arrive on the scene were on two wheels: medics on bicycles who helped resuscitate the “Star Wars” star.
The Los Angeles Fire Department’s bicycle medic team is one of hundreds in big cities such as Boston and Philadelphia and small ones such as Cody, Wyo., that deliver quick emergency care by darting in and out of heavy traffic, maneuvering through large crowds or cutting across parkland more nimbly than a crew in an ambulance.
“Sometimes, every second counts with these situations,” said Maureen Becker, executive director of the International Police Mountain Bike Association, a nonprofit that trains and certifies public safety cyclists. “Because a bicycle is able to respond so quickly, the actions can be lifesaving.”
The Los Angeles EMS team that raced to help Fisher was deployed at the airport during the holiday rush. It boarded her plane with an ambulance crew and members of an engine company, all of whom worked to give her advanced life support, said Robert Dunivin, a fire department captain and chairman of the bike team advisory committee. Fisher died at a local hospital four days later.
When the Los Angeles bike unit made its debut patrolling a triathlon in 2004, it had 20 cyclists. The team is now one of the largest in the country, with 120 cyclists and 60 bikes. It deploys on weekends and at special events such as the Los Angeles Marathon, the Rose Parade, Los Angeles Rams tailgating parties and on the Venice Beach boardwalk on summer weekends.
Dunivin said the unit has a budget of about $90,000 per year to pay overtime to the medics, who do the bicycle work in addition to their regular Fire Department jobs. Another $12,000 is allocated for equipment.
Across the country, bike medics patrol airports, sports arenas, downtown entertainment areas and special events such as festivals, concerts and marathons.
They are especially useful when roads are closed or congested, said Mike Touchstone, past president of the National EMS Management Association, a professional association of EMS managers. Medics on bikes can navigate crowded streets and sidewalks swiftly.
“You have easier access to patients and can get there more quickly than you can in an ambulance when there is a crowded event,” said Touchstone, who is also regional director of the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Medical Services. “That makes a big difference if someone is having a heart attack or a stroke.”
It made a big difference in Minneapolis in 2014, when a 61-year-old runner suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed during a marathon. A bike medic team roaming the course arrived quickly, shocked the man’s heart with a portable defibrillator and stabilized him before an ambulance took him to the hospital, where he recovered.
Many of the first officially organized EMS bike units in the United States were launched in the 1990s in places including Denver; East Baton Rouge; and Troy, Ohio. They were modeled on police bike patrols, which had become popular a decade earlier.
Today, at least 500 agencies have EMS bike teams, according to Becker, whose group has trained about 1,400 cyclists since 2013.
Fire departments, EMS agencies, hospitals and private ambulance services run teams. Some have just two or four members; others have dozens.
Many bike medics are paid emergency medical technicians and paramedics, but others work for volunteer associations or other organizations.
In New York, the all-volunteer Central Park Medical Unit’s 10-member bicycle team patrols the 843-acre park many weekends during the warmer months. It also appears in force at concerts and other big events.
“When everyone is sitting on a blanket, how do you get through to them in an emergency?” said Rafael Castellanos, the unit’s president. “The bike teams are very nimble and can get into places a large vehicle cannot.”
EMS cyclists generally travel in pairs. Most use mountain bikes, which are sturdy and are designed to carry a heavy load and maneuver through traffic and crowds and around obstacles.
Bike medics carry first aid and trauma supplies, oxygen, IVs, cardiac monitors and defibrillators. The bike and equipment combined can weigh up to 50 pounds, so cyclists need to be in good shape.
EMS bike units have some limitations: They can’t take patients to the hospital and can’t carry backboards, stretchers or long or bulky pieces of equipment. Thunderstorms and snow can prove challenging.
But officials say creating and outfitting a bike team is a good investment because it’s much cheaper than purchasing and equipping an ambulance.
In Cody, for example, it cost less than $3,000 to set up West Park Hospital’s unit with three bikes, uniforms and saddlebags, according to clinical supervisor Ryan Winchell. He said buying and equipping an ambulance, on the other hand, can run as much as $280,000.
The bike unit is called into action at parades and Fourth of July festivities as well as at trail runs in the town 50 miles outside Yellowstone National Park.
Winchell, a paramedic and bike team member, said he and his colleagues have a different mind-set when they’re cycling to a scene than when they’re riding in an ambulance.
“You don’t have your same comfort zone of having a few minutes to think about where you’re going and what you’re going to do,” he said. “It’s definitely a different kind of game.”
But EMS workers who are bike enthusiasts are especially likely to embrace those challenges.
“It’s honestly the most fun part of my job,” said Dunivin of the Los Angeles Fire Department. “I’m normally in the fire station all day or out on an engine. When you’re on the bike, you’re talking to people on the streets and interacting. I keep thinking, ‘Wow. They pay me to do this?’ “

The 18-year-old sister of One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has been found dead at home from a suspected heart attack.
The tragic death of Félicité, a fashion designer and Instagram star who had almost 1.3million followers, comes after Louis’ mother Johannah died from leukaemia in 2016.
Louis has been left ‘devastated and distraught’ by the death, the Sun reported, and praised his sister as ‘loveable, caring, bright and beautiful’ last night, sources close to the One Direction singer told the paper.
He has pulled out of tomorrow night’s Comic Relief, where he was due to perform his new single live as one of the headline acts.
She collapsed after a suspected heart attack at her fourth-floor studio apartment in Earls Court, West London, on Wednesday lunchtime.
It is understood police found no signs of drugs at the address. They say they are in the process of informing next of kin.
The death of Félicité — known as Fizzy — is being treated as ‘unexplained’ at this stage.
A full post-mortem examination will take place and toxicology tests will be carried out.

‘Officers attended. A female believed to be aged 18 was pronounced dead at the scene.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 12:51pm yesterday to reports of an incident in Earls Court.
‘We sent two ambulance crews, a single responder in a car and an advanced paramedic to the scene.
‘Sadly, despite efforts of our medics, a person died at the scene.’
Louis, 27, was working in London last night when police informed him of his sister’s death. Other family members, in Doncaster, have also been notified.
The X Factor judge was extremely close to his sister. They regularly saw each other in London.
Last night a family source told the paper: ‘Félicité was an absolutely adored young woman who was loved by Louis and her whole family.
‘They are all totally devastated, as you can imagine.
‘She had so many friends and was such a positive happy person. It’s a massive loss to the world.
‘She was a loveable, caring, bright, passionate, popular and beautiful young lady.’

She shared it online where she also spoke about Louis’s song, Two of Us, on Sunday.
Louis’s song, Two Of Us, is a tribute to the pair’s mother Johannah Deakin, who tragically succumbed to leukaemia three years ago, in December 2016.
Asked about it on Instagram, she said: ‘I cried my eyes out in the back of my Uber, but I loved the song filled me with hope.’
She told fans she would be ‘very different’ had her mother not died, writing: ‘Very different, in both good and bad ways, there is collateralized beauty in everything.’
Last month she posted a grab of Christina Aguilera’s song Hurt which is about the loss of a parent. She also retweeted a picture showing her resemblance to her mother.

Asked if she was proud of her siblings, she said: ‘More than I can express — including the little ones.’
And she used her platform on Instagram to speak out about mental illness, writing on January 12: ‘I think there is a lot of stigma around addiction and the disease of addiction is misunderstood.’
She added: ‘Depression and anxiety is less stigmatised but there is still a lot of stigma around other mental illnesses.’
But asked about rumours she had been battling depression, Felicite wrote: ‘Everyone struggles with things in life especially if they suffer a huge loss or life changing event but I don’t think that’s something rumours should be spread about.
‘It should be up to the person to talk about it when and if they’re ready to.’
Felicite recently reminisced about her favourite moments with her older brother: ‘Car rides home from X Factor auditions, all giving opinions and being so excited and seeing him so excited.’

Scarred by tragedy: Louis Tomlinson’s close-knit family reel for second devastating time soon after death of their mother from blood cancer at 43
The tragic death of Louis Tomlinson’s sister Felicite aged just 18 is the second devastating blow for the family in little over two years, after his mother died of leukaemia in December 2016.
Midwife Johannah Deakin lost her battle with cancer at just 43, leaving behind Louis, Felicite and their five siblings.
Her husband Dan Deakin paid tribute to his late wife saying: ‘Incredibly selfless, she would always look to put other people before herself. She desired nothing more than for everyone around her to be happy and loving.
‘She worked tirelessly on numerous charity campaigns, creating memories for many individuals and their families.’
Louis Tomlinson pictured with his mother Johannah. She spoke often of her pride in her eldest child’s generosity towards his siblings, saying: ‘He always asks me, ‘Tell me what trips they’ve got, where do they want to go? Let me use my money to pay for their trips”
As well as Louis, devoted mother Johannah left behind Lottie, Felicite, twins Daisy and Phoebe, and twins Ernest and Doris, whom she gave birth to prematurely in 2014
‘It wasn’t uncommon for Johannah to hear through the media of an individual in need of assistance, and she would immediately make it her objective to get that person what they often desperately needed, and rarely without success.’
Louis’ former bandmates sent their love in a series of heatrbreaking tweets.
On Twitter Liam Payne wrote: ‘Louis, I’m so sorry for you my brother my heart aches for you, just know I love you the same from a million miles away as i do right next to you. I’m always here for you through everything as you have been for me.
‘My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this incredibly sad time I can’t begin to imagine what you are all going through. Rip Johanna you are forever in my thoughts.’

Two Of Us: The moving tribute to his late mother Louis was due to perform tonight
In a now-cancelled Comic Relief performance on BBC One, Louis Tomlison would have performed his new single Two Of Us, a loving tribute to mother Johannah who died of cancer just over two years ago.
The poignant lyrics speak of the singer’s love and loss:
It’s been a minute since I called you
Just to hear the answerphone
Yeah, I know that you won’t get this
But I’ll leave a message so I’m not alone
This morning I woke up still dreaming
With memories playing through my head
You’ll never know how much I miss you
The day that they took you, I wish it was me instead
But you once told me, ‘Don’t give up
You can do it day by day’
And diamonds, they don’t turn to dust or fade away
So I will keep you day and night, here until the day I die
I’ll be living one life for the two of us
Zayn Malik tweeted: ‘@Louis_Tomlinson love you bro! All of your family is in my prayers. proud of your strength and know your mum is too x’.
Meanwhile, Niall Horan posted: ‘Very sad news . Louis I love you mate and I’m / all of us are here for you all the way. You’re mum was an incredible person.
‘Thinking of you and your family. Love from my family to yours..’
A devoted mother, Johannah said in an interview she couldn’t have been more proud of her eldest child, Louis.
Calling him ‘a really nice lovely brother,’ she went on to say that the 1D star always offered to pay for his sister’s trips at school.
‘He always asks me, ‘Tell me what trips they’ve got, where do they want to go? Let me use my money to pay for their trips’,’ Johannah said.
‘He’s always been like that. he’s not a materialistic person himself, but he likes to give people things. He spoils me and the girls and he’s happiest doing that.’
Born Johannah Poulston on March 25 1973, Louis’ mother grew up in Doncaster in South Yorkshire, and worked as a midwife and a TV assistant.
Johannah gave birth to Louis when she was 18, but split from his biological father Troy Austin, in 1997 when Louis was five.
She and Mark Tomlinson, whom Louis has said he considers his real dad, then had four children: Charlotte, now 20, Felicity, 18, and twins Phoebe and Daisy, both 14.
In 2013, Johannah announced her engagement to doctor Dan Deakin and that the couple were expecting twins.
Their wedding in July 2014 saw her son as best man, while Louis’ band mates, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan all attended.
Twins Ernest and Doris, both now five, arrived prematurely in February 2014.

PRIOR LAKE, Minn. — The summer time of Brock Boeser happened at a 6,00Zero-square-foot Minnesota lake home with floor-to-ceiling home windows overlooking the water (and an inflatable trampoline volleyball court docket docked simply exterior). The Vancouver Canucks winger rented the place with three highschool buddies, and earlier than you start questioning if that is some “Entourage”-esque setup, the 21-year-old clears issues up.
“Come on, they’re my mates!” he mentioned. “They don’t seem to be utilizing me; everybody pays lease.”
Within the mornings, Boeser drove 20 minutes to his mother and father’ home to have breakfast and play with Coolie, the Australian Cattle Canine combine the Boesers fell in love with — and adopted — at January’s NHL All-Star weekend. He’d then work out and spend afternoons lake browsing.
The Habs dealt their captain to the desert in a deal that can have long-term implications for each golf equipment. Who got here out forward?
Two of the three stars are in contract seasons, whereas the opposite’s deal is up in 2020. Plus, Jersey Foul of the Week, the KHL’s huge mistake and extra.
What number of groups will prime 100 factors? Will the Rangers actually end within the 70s? We weigh in on each crew’s projected quantity.
2 Associated
Issues may be good in Minnesota, however they’re simply as nice in Vancouver, the place Boeser has fallen in love with the town as a result of “the followers are superior, it is lovely, everybody is admittedly energetic … and the sushi, the sushi is so good. They’ve it for us after video games, and I solely want a number of items as a result of I am happy and transfer on.”
Boeser led the Canucks in scoring (29 targets and 55 factors in simply 62 contests), wooing nearly everybody who noticed him. Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz in contrast Boeser’s launch to Alex Ovechkin’s. Says Vancouver defenseman Erik Gudbranson: “His launch is ridiculous, simply ridiculous. The puck is on and off his stick in a split-second.”
Henrik Sedin known as the rookie “probably the most pure objective scorer I’ve ever performed with.”
Sure, that takes under consideration his twin, Daniel.
In January, Boeser raked in a formidable All-Star haul. As the primary rookie to win MVP, he picked up $675,00Zero — greater than two-thirds of his wage — in bonuses and prize cash, plus a brand new automotive. That has led Boeser to benefit from the sudden spoils of fame. He was shocked when he came upon someone was promoting a T-shirt that includes a collage of … his face.
“Only a bunch of images of me,” he mentioned. “Throughout.” (Certainly, they retail for $24.99 and in addition are available in tank-top type.)
Due to his platinum blond locks, Boeser is consistently being tagged on social media alongside pictures of Prince Charming from “Shrek.” Then there are the even crazier perks, like filming a skit for the Canadian Juno music awards with singer Michael Buble.
“We had been at an occasion and someone launched him to us, and straight away, he was telling us how he owns a part of the Vancouver Giants and loves hockey and was appearing like a superfan of us,” Boeser says. “And I am like, ‘Holy f—, excuse my language, that is loopy.’ After which he goes, ‘I’ve this nice thought [for the skit].’ We actually filmed it the subsequent week.'”
Boeser and Buble nonetheless textual content semi-regularly.
So, sure, getting into his second NHL season, it is good to be Brock Boeser proper now. However you would possibly excuse the 21-year-old if he simply takes a couple of minutes to take pleasure in this; he and his household have overcome rather a lot simply to get right here.
Brock Boeser’s freak collision with a bench door brought on a again harm that ended his season prematurely. Anne-Marie Sorvin/USA TODAY Sports activities
Boeser calls it a dumb play, however actually, it was dumb luck. On March 5, the Canucks — effectively exterior of playoff place — hosted the New York Islanders. Late within the third interval, Boeser was skating backward alongside the bench-side partitions as he leaned in on New York’s Cal Clutterbuck.
“I wasn’t going for a giant hit,” Boeser says. “I simply needed to get in his means. However he noticed me coming and hit me again.”
The subsequent factor Boeser remembers is flying within the air after which mendacity on the ice. The Canucks’ bench door occurred to be open; his bottom clunked towards the open gate. At first he noticed stars. Boeser did not know if he had shattered his pelvis. Perhaps it was his hip. He could not really feel his left leg.
“I sort of had a panic assault in my abdomen,” he says. “So I flipped myself over.”
Enjoyable. Free. Simple. Create or be a part of a league and play ESPN Fantasy Hockey! Join free!
As soon as he was helped to the coaching desk, he remembers “10 guys round me, all making an attempt to chop my stuff off, however I used to be in a lot ache, probably the most ache in my total life.”
When crew medical doctors clarified that it was a again harm, Boeser was shuttled into an ambulance.
“My mother was freaking out,” he says. “Texting me a thousand occasions. I instructed her to chill out, then handed the cellphone to the physician.”
Boeser was supplied medicine to alleviate the ache, and at first he mentioned no. Then the ambulance hit a bump — possibly a small pothole — and the impression reverberated by means of Boeser’s total physique, to the purpose the place he blurted: “I am going to take them.”
By the point he received to the hospital, he thought he felt good. Perhaps, he thought, I can play the remainder of the season. Then he tried to maneuver his physique; he then knew that he was carried out for the 12 months. Teammates Michael Del Zotto, Troy Stecher and Chris Tanev visited after the sport and stayed by Boeser’s aspect because the prognosis was revealed: a mushy tissue harm and a small nonstructural, nondisplaced fracture of the transverse course of in his decrease again. He was launched early within the morning.
“I could not stroll for 4 days,” Boeser says. “I simply laid in my condo. I would rise up to go to the toilet — it will take me about 5 minutes simply to rise up — then go proper again to mattress.”
Boeser was ultimately cleared to journey, and the Canucks’ crew physician accompanied him again to Minnesota — partly as a result of he had a wrist challenge, as effectively. Boeser would proceed remedy over the summer time with John Bottoms, the Minnesota Wild’s therapist, and fly again to Vancouver a number of occasions to verify in with the crew.
“Anytime you see a teammate like that go down, particularly among the finest gamers in your crew, it is positively scary,” Bo Horvat instructed ESPN in September. “Again accidents are to not be taken flippantly. As soon as we knew he was OK, and that he was going to be effective, all of us took a deep breath.”
The welt in his again was the scale of a softball, and it took weeks to cut back. However Boeser was cleared to play hockey once more per week earlier than Da Magnificence League — weekly rec video games for native school and NHL gamers — started. Since there is not any checking in summer time hockey, he wasn’t actually frightened.
“For those who had slapped my again, it nonetheless would have been sore,” Boeser says. “I used to be simply so pumped to be on the market. I used to be most likely the quickest one on the ice, simply so excited to play.”
Boeser tallied 15 targets and 33 factors by means of eight video games and added a knocked-from-midair objective and help within the ultimate to assist his crew win the John Scott Championship and get the match’s empty keg trophy. Boeser was named MVP.
The harm will not change the way in which Boeser performs, however it has him excited about hockey mortality.
“My objective is to play within the NHL so long as I can,” he says. “Clearly I believe much more about harm now. Earlier than this occurred, I would by no means consider that. I imply, the percentages of you having a career-ending harm are scarce, however I give it some thought much more now. One dangerous factor may occur, and I could possibly be carried out.”
Boeser desires to purchase a home subsequent summer time so his mother and father can transfer in and downsize. He has already given his mother and father his Jeep.
As for the automotive he gained on the NHL All-Star Recreation? Inside minutes of studying he gained it, Boeser pledged to present it to his sister, Jessica. Missouri Law Would Make it a Crime to Try to Hide Botched Abortions By Doing This
A new provision in an abortion safety bill has been introduced in the Missouri State Legislature that would make it a misdemeanor crime for abortion clinic workers to interfere with medical assistance by asking ambulances to run with no lights and no sirens. It is the first of its kind in the nation.
If passed, the new law would make such interference punishable by up to one year in jail and fines up to $2,000.
While Planned Parenthood representatives have said the new bill has nothing to do with the health and safety of women, Operation Rescue has evidence to prove that their assertion is a false one.
It is a fact that ambulances running silently take longer to reach their destinations than ambulances running with lights and sirens.
“Asking an ambulance to run in silent mode actually delays care to women when minutes can mean the difference between life and death for women experiencing abortion injuries or other complications,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, whose organization tracks and documents medical emergencies at abortion facilities nationwide.
The real reason abortion facilities like Planned Parenthood do not want ambulances running to their clinics with lights and sirens has everything to do with wanting to avoid bad publicity, according to a former Planned Parenthood abortionist.
Marc E. Heller worked for Planned Parenthood in New York until earlier this year. In a recorded interview with a student from the Cooperstown Graduate Program, conducted on November 19, 2016, Heller explained how Planned Parenthood handled ambulance calls.
“We always said to the ambulance, ‘Please come to the back entrance. Please don’t use any sirens or lights,’ because we knew that the protestors that were there every day would call the press. And there would be a press thing about ‘another botched abortion,’” Heller said.
Mary Kogut, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region, has admitted that her St. Louis abortion facility has in the past asked that no sirens be used for the numerous medical emergencies that occur at that clinic.
“[We] may have asked that the siren wasn’t on so that it didn’t alarm other people,” Kogut said, later claiming that it is no longer their policy to ask ambulances to run slowly without sirens.
“Expecting an abortionist to self-police is unwise at best, and often foolhardy. The minute they think no one is looking, they revert back to their bad behavior. We have seen it over and over again,” said Newman. “This law is meant to protect women suffering life-threatening abortion complications from further harm inflicted by often incompetent abortionists who are more interested in covering up their mishaps than getting proper emergency treatment for the women they injured. This law is absolutely necessary.”
The tragic effects of delaying medical care to patients suffering from botched abortions was dramatically illustrated in the death of a 19-year old Down syndrome girl, Christin Gilbert. She had reported with her parents to a Wichita abortion facility for a late-term abortion in January 2005.
When Gilbert, who was pregnant due to a sexual assault, suffered life-threatening complications, one of the clinic workers called 911 begging them to come with no lights or sirens, which delayed their arrival at the abortion facility by several minutes. When emergency responders finally arrived, they were unprepared for the severity of Gilbert’s condition, thinking it was just a routine inter-facility transfer. She died at a local hospital later that day.
Operation Rescue strongly supports the new Missouri bill because the St. Louis Planned Parenthood – the last abortion facility left in Missouri — is a high-volume clinic that has experienced an extraordinary number of medical emergencies. Operation Rescue has documented 65 medical emergencies involving patient ambulance transports there since mid-2009.
Preventing Planned Parenthood from asking ambulances to run more slowly may indeed save lives.
