#like after the titanic sank there was a big push to make sure all ships had enough lifeboats for all passengers when thats not really what

sometimes learning maritime history is just sitting there thinking like okay i get that all my why would you not Xs is money like its just who cares about safety when money BUT i feel like if all of you would agree on shipping lanes for lake fucking huron, youd probably save money on ship collisions, what do you mean these lanes didnt apply to canadian ships????
#kai rambles#shipposting#im just#like#safety regulations were just not a thing when it came to the early version of the modern shipping industry#i know that#safety regulations cost money so just dont have any#but like thats stupid for several reasons#like surely you would save money if less of your ships would like you know sink#or hit another ship#because that involves potentially having to pay out for that ships repairs#also like#you do have to pay some insurance to the families and survivors#granted thats not much considering in 1959 us steel was able to blame the sinking of the carl d bradley on GOD#so they didnt have to pay enough#but also like#the big pushes for safety regulations in maritime history is like not surprising as to when or why they happen#but its frustrating all the same#like after the titanic sank there was a big push to make sure all ships had enough lifeboats for all passengers when thats not really what#lifeboats were/are for? in a lot of the successful rescue efforts lifeboats were there to ferry passengers to another ship or shore#and then go back to the sinking ship to get more passengers#theres also a lot of times where you just cant release lifeboats full of passengers because they will not survive#modern lifeboats are more suited for survival in big bodies or water but older ones were death traps#and iirc lifeboats have killed more than theyve saved?#a lot of captains at the time were like this law change is dumb and is going to cause problems in regards to ships ability to float#because like extra weight and also this is probably not gonna help anyone but that legislation was pushed straight through#but investigating the kind of steel the carl d was made of and how it was that material that made the ship break in half?#fuck you weve decided its gods fault

A Tale of Two Guardians XXVII
Part 1 of the Destined Series Chapter 27 : The Promethean Code masterlist
word count : 2.5k tag list : @mail-me-a-snail @basically-nacl @shins-wife @speed-boop
I stirred a bit from my sleep the next morning when I felt my body being adjusted.  I sighed quietly and rolled over.  I was startled awake when the door then flew open, and hit the wall with a loud thud. Before the intruder could announce themselves, I threw a Thunderstrike their way and hit them square in the chest, killing him instantly.  I jumped up, reached for my sword on the table, only it wasn’t there.  It started to process in my brain that this wasn’t my apartment, it took me another moment to recognize the Ghost, and Maverick was holding in his laughter as he walked over and revived him.  Skinner stood in the living room, staring me down like he was ready to stab me for it.
“Oh Fuck!”  I exclaimed, my face flushing bright. “I’m so sorry Skinner! It’s a natural reflex!”  I then turned to Maverick, who had a smug look on his face. “Why didn’t you wake me up and tell me he was coming?!”
“Because I wanted to see what would happen. And I was not disappointed.” he said trying to hide his laughter.
Skinner then looked at Maverick with revenge filled eyes and said, “Oh you cheeky motherfucker, I’ll get you back.”
“I’m sure you will, now that we’re all here we need to talk about our next mission.”
“Wait, what mission?”  I asked.
“Well we have to go steal something.”
“Steal something?  From who?”
“...From Rasputian…”
I must have been the only one in the room that was clueless, because I looked between both of them and they were staring at me expectantly. “Umm who’s that?” I pressed.
“A Warmind.”
“A Warmind?” I was dumbfounded.  Warminds are Golden Age Artificial Intelligence that connected the entire solar system through warsats, satellites, and weapons.  “I thought they were lost during the Collapse?”
“Well, they were, until we activated the last array in Old Russia and reactivated him,” Maverick answered.
“He should be okay, right?”  The thought of venturing into a Warmind made a pit form in my stomach.  This may be familiar for Maverick and Skinner, but this was uncharted territory for me.
“After we ran Omnigul out of there, Zavala sent in a few teams to seal the vault. Only one team came back.”  Skinner said, and promptly took a bow.
“Oh, then why are we going to a killer A.I. then?”  I crossed my arms and glared at both of them.  I didn’t like this idea one bit, but if there was no other way, then maybe we didn’t have a choice.
“Because we are the only ones to come out alive in recent times.”
“Fair enough. So what’s the plan Mav?”  I walked over to the table, where the two of them were standing over the mission summary that they got from Cayde.
“Well we land in the Forgotten Shore, make our way to his bunker, go in, find the codes, take the codes and get out. Should be simple enough, the Vault's been sealed since Omnigul, so nothing could have gotten in.”
“So let me get this straight.”  I took a deep breath and rubbed my temples.  Why did mission summaries and plans always have to be discussed right after I woke up?  “We're headed into the deadliest Golden Age Warmind and stealing from it?”
“That’s the gist of it yeah.”
I looked at the two of them, standing there as if this mission was no big deal, and sighed in defeat.  “What have I gotten myself into with you guys?”
“A lot of fun, duh.” Skinner cackled.
“Well let’s get going then.”  I split off from them, giving Maverick’s hand a small squeeze before I left to get changed into my armor.  Skinner must have noticed, because I could hear him giggling like a giddy schoolgirl and the muffled sound of their voices.  I shook my head and smiled.  As much as these guys had a tendency to lead me down suicide missions, I don’t think I could live a day without them anymore.
— — — — —
We all boarded our ships later on in the morning and flew out of the Hanger, though we stayed in the atmosphere and fell into formation.  Our Ghosts synchronized our ships and we all set a course for the Forgotten Shore.  Before we arrived Eris came over sounding both angry and concerned "Stealing from Rasputian… You are entering a world you do not understand."
"Don't worry about her Fireteam." Cayde interjected, "She's still mad about what you did to her ship. We need stealth tech to slip by the Taken and Warmind's bunker has the codes we need."
"Do you really think it should be this easy?" I asked Maverick.
"Honestly no," Mav sighed, "I can almost say for certain that we are going to see some Taken in there."
"But the Vault's been sealed for months!" Skinner protested.  "There's no way Taken could have breached it."
"And that's where you're wrong, I've seen enough Taken coming out of thin air and the walls to know better.  But for now let's hope we don't have to fight Taken."
We landed in the Forgotten Shore and Maverick asked, "Cayde how do you know Rasputian will still have the codes?"
"I already stole it once, used my last copy making that stealth drive you blew up.  Eh, it was getting old anyways." He said.
We hopped on our sparrows and rode over the shore.  I followed Maverick and Skinner to an old building, and we quickly dispatched the Fallen that were outside of it. We made our way to the bunker in the basement of the building.  As we began to descend the stairs, it must have finally clicked with Maverick that we couldn’t get into the Vault if it was sealed.
"Cayde, how are we supposed to get inside?"  He asked.
"You've got the same bypass frequency that got me inside."
"He will protect his domain." Eris warned.
Maverick didn’t even have to input the codes, the doors opened on their own.  As the door opened, we saw more Taken rifts and my heart sank.  It was never going to be that easy. I reloaded my weapon and followed Maverick inside, Skinner bringing up the rear.
"More interdimensional goo, the Taken are here," Maverick reported.
"What? Not possible," Cayde said "We sealed the vault after the Omnigul breach."
“Cayde look at this.”  He had his Ghost turn on a video feed to the Vanguard channel.
“Oh that does look bad. Okay, so if you see them ah, just shoot’em."
We make our way further into the vault and head toward the end of the hall before Taken started popping out of thin air as they normally do.
“How did they get in there?” Cayde asked.
“The Taken are not bound by terrestrial constraints.” Eris said.
“Yeah, I bet they’ll be constrained by terrestrial bullets.” Cayde added.
With that, we charged at the Taken.  We cut down the Thrall and thinned their ranks.  I hung back a bit and started sniping the Vandals and Captains towards that back of the room.  The Vandals, however, became Maverick’s main aim of aggression.  Most likely because they cast their own ward. Once everything was gone, I caught up to Skinner and Maverick and they led me further into the Vault.  This place was familiar to them, they knew the halls like the back of their hands.
We began to push toward the end of the hall where more Taken began popping out. More Thrall, a Vandal, and a Captain.  Captains have a tendency to throw literal Darkness blast at us, not to mention they teleport way too damn much, more than the Thrall do.  When everything else was dead, Skinner and I stood next to each other, watching Maverick ruthlessly blast off the captain’s leg with his shotgun, let it collapse, before lining up his gun and blasting off it’s head.
“Really?” I asked.  “Was that necessary?”
“What? He was pissing me off!” he snapped back.
“Nice one Mav!” Skinner said as he laughed and clapped at the display of aggression.
“Listen, Storm, if it was a normal Captain I would have shown it mercy. But these aren’t Fallen Captain’s anymore.  Killing them is mercy at this point”
“Okay I’ll keep your word on that one,” I said in defeat.  As much I hated the Taken and as much as my morals wanted to spare every creature, regardless of its nature, I knew he was right.  “Now let’s keep moving.”
We continued through the bunker walking through what looked like a cooling chamber, most likely for the computer cores.
Maverick’s Ghost commented, “I can’t believe the Taken can track us so easily.  Oryx really does hate us.”
“Well you did kill his son.” Dawn pointed out.
“Yeah, please don’t remind me.  Skinner and I have a small army after us to do the reminding for you.”
“Which is exactly why we’re here. We need those cloaking codes.”  Cayde piped in.
We left the cooling room and took another left as a door opened for us.  Rasputin was leading us right to his data center.
“Do you think Rasputian is guiding us to the codes?” I asked.
“It’s entirely possible, he probably recognizes us and the threat at hand.” Maverick replied.
We went through the door and more Taken came out to greet us.  This seemed to be never ending.  The Taken Centurions were interesting to deal with; they summon this seeking missile to try and kill us thankfully it's shootable, it’s very similar to my axion dart grenades.
We fight through them with little problems. After they’re all dead the next door unlocks and opens. We follow the door down to what looks like a power tunnel and more Taken Thrall popped in. We cut them down easily and proceeded to the only door in that room. The next area was a small intersection where we stopped to catch our breaths.
“Ugh I’m covered in Taken goo again!” I exclaimed in annoyance.  I shook off my hands and watched it cake the wall.  I wasn’t looking forward to cleaning my armor when we got back.
“Oh, you’re covered in goo.” Mav muttered bitterly, and Skinner and I turned to face him. My eyes widened at the sight.  Taken goo covered most of his armor.
Skinner almost died of laughter. “Oh no! Look out for the Taken Titan!”
I couldn’t help it.  I laughed along with Skinner. “Wow, I thought I was covered but never mind.”
Maverick sighed.  “Very funny, you guys.”  He shook off his hands and wiped the goo off the face of his helmet.  We used this time to take a breather; we reloaded our weapons and replenished our ammunition. We went to the open door. As with the other rooms, more Taken came to try and stop us.  At this point, it was tiring
“Alright I’m done with these Taken. Skinner if you would please?” Mav asked, making a grandiose sweeping motion in front of him.
“My pleasure, Metal Man.” He said.
Shortly after, he brought out his knife and Arc Light swirled about his body.  He then began to cut down all the Taken in the room and more that they came after the first wave. After they were all dead Skinner took a bow.
“Hope you two enjoyed the show!  I know I enjoyed making it. It’s a shame though, I wanted to cut open one of those Vandals.”
I rolled my eyes at him and patted him on the shoulder as Maverick and I walked by.  “Excellent work, Skinner.”
“Alright now, let’s go.  We must be close.”
We went through the door, and another… and another… and another… and another, until it finally opened up to the control center.  "Really? How many damn doors does he need?" I commented, my annoyance clear in my voice.  And just like that, Taken spawned into the room.
“Okay, enough's enough,” Maverick growled as Solar Light illuminated his entire body.  With that, he pulled solar hammers out of thin air and threw them at the Psions and Centurions in the room.  He cleared them out in no time.
“Cayde we’re clear which console are we looking for?” He asked as the Solar energy faded from his body. Skinner and I walked closer to him.
“Umm, the one in the back I think.” He said.
“Found it.”
“Alright, see what you can pull out of Rasputian. Hmm, there’s a joke there somewhere.”
Mav deployed his Ghost and it scanned the computer.
“These cryptosystems follow no logic I understand. I’m not sure it can be modified to work on a Guardian.”
“Where do you think Bladedancers got their cloaking ability?” He said mockingly, “Grab the codes, I’ll upload my modifications.”
“If the Vanguard is satisfied, we can finally end this. Return to the Moon. Steal Crota’s soul.”
The three of us followed the path back out of the bunker; there were no Taken left to slow us down as we headed into the early afternoon sunlight and transmatted back into our ships.
“That was a successful mission if I do say so myself,” Maverick said over the private channel.
“Yes it was,” Skinner agreed.  “And I’m, uh, I’m gonna head to the bar.  I’ll catch you guys tomorrow.” He dropped out of the channel as silence fell between the Maverick and I.
When we landed in the Hanger, I turned to Maverick.  “I’m going to head home to wash off all this goo.  You’re welcome to join me for a pot of coffee.”
“I’m actually going to head home, too.  Have a good night though, Angel.”
— — — — —
A few hours later I was sitting in my living area, glimmer piled on the table, and I was finishing up getting the Taken goo off of my armor. It was around midnight now and it was pouring rain outside.  I sat back on the couch when I finished and yawned.  I looked over at my Ghost.  “Ghost, open a channel with Maverick.”
I waited a couple of minutes before he answered.  “Yeah?” He asked aloud, like he didn’t really pay attention to who had called him, or that he was preoccupied with something.
“Allô, mon chérie,”  I said softly.
“Oh, Storm, hey… everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, everything’s fine.”  I paused for a moment, and fiddled with the ends of my sleeves.  “Mav… I know where we’re going tomorrow.  Are you sure you guys are going to be okay.”
There was silence on his end.
“Mav?”
“I’ll be fine, Skinner will be fine.  Don’t worry about it.”  There was a chill in his voice that made me doubt him.  “You should get some sleep.”
I chewed on the inside of my cheek.  “Maverick…”
“Angel, please…”  He was pleading with me now.  “Get some rest.”
“Okay.  Je t’aime, mon chérie.  Bonne nuit et fait de beaux rêves…”*
“Good night, Angel.”

Titanic AU | Akashi Seijuro x Fem!Reader
Note: I’m sorry if this seems OOC, sorta new to this whole thing. My requests are open!
Tumblr media
Pairing: Akashi Seijuro x Reader
Genre: Angst
Word Count: 866
Triggers?: N/A
The ship was sinking
fast.
As the bow of the ship sank into the water, the screams faded from his mind. Akashi was here for one reason and one reason alone, his first-class ticket. If only the crowds hadn’t swept him away, leaving him far from you. Now there was a lull in the terror as he closed his eyes. The night air was freezing, he had no doubt that the water would be too. In front of him was a lifeboat; offering an appealing escape. Behind him was a flooding ship, yet it held something he loved dearly. You were a ship’s length away and here he was standing helplessly. This did give him time to think. Thinking was Akashi Seijuro’s specialty and he had a lot to think about. He thought about how you two met; he had noticed you first, but you seemed preoccupied with a nosey fiance.
Then there was that first night. Warm lighting filled the crowded room. As you spoke to him, you seemed more alive than ever. Hell, he was more alive than ever. Your quick-witted humor and ever sly smile drew him in. It was a side that you seemed to hide from your fiance. Though, meeting your fiance, it wasn’t a surprise. As the two of you had escaped outside, he looked up at the sky. The world seemed so big and he knew, in an instant, that he needed to explore it with someone like...you. It was always you.
“They say the ship is unsinkable.” You drawled lazily, yet making a fine point to look curiously at him. He nodded along slowly.
“They do say that, but you never know.” He had added calmly. You had sighed in response.
You both agreed that after that night, you should move on. Surely nothing would become of it. Akashi was a businessman without a business to his name. You had a fiance. It would be a misstep to continue contact.
What a fool I am. He thought as he kissed you. It had been slow and passionate. He had pledged something that night. His mind, in its current frenzied state, kept slipping on exactly what that was.
What a fool I am. He thought again as he ran down the deck, slipping a bit on the dampness.
“Y/N?!” He screamed running down the grand staircase only to find a swimming pool. Cutlery and dining tables; people were still running. The chaos of the moment sunk in, truly, for once. Was he going to die? Was he going to die without seeing you again? He began wondering why he ever had the thought of choosing that lifeboat. It all meant nothing if you weren’t on it with him.
         “Y/N?!” He shouted once more.
“Akashi?!” The voice was faint but sure.
He called your name once more before finding your figure wading toward him in the darkness. The sea was giving an eerie blue light to the once warmly lit room.
“You must be freezing.” He pointed out, trying to stay calm.
“It’s so c-c-c-cold.” Your teeth chattered as he pulled you from the water.
“Here.” He said, thinking quickly and pulling off his coat. With it firmly wrapped around your shoulders, he helped guide you to the exit. “There’s a lifeboat over here. I was waiting for it, but...” He had no excuse except bitter selfishness for not finding you sooner.
Then, he felt your cold hand on his warm one.
“It’s okay, Akashi.” You hummed, though panic coursed through your veins. “I’m just...So cold.”
He pulled you closer, arms encasing your cold body as you shivered. He looked up, letting you rest your head in the crook of his shoulder. “It’s sort of funny.”
“What is?” You scoffed, thinking of the dire situation.
“I’m looking up at the same sky we were under when we first met. Now I’m looking at them again with you, but everything’s changed.” He rarely thought out loud. If he was going to be deceased in the ocean soon, he might as well have his lover know everything. It was a surprise when you backed away quickly.
“You don’t have to act so calmly, Akashi! Look around you! The ship is sinking and there aren’t enough lifeboats.”
It was like you had given him permission to panic, to grab onto you for support. Now he was an arm’s length away and he had trouble deciding between his sanity or your unjudgemental grasp.
“Remember what I said? I’ll always be here for you.” You continued.
Right, those were the words that kept slipping his mind. And so he chose you. Always you. He had many things to say, but to start...
“I’m sorry.” Then he hugged you tightly and caressed your cheeks which were now ice cold. “I’m sorry.”
I’m sorry this happened. I’m sorry I only got a few measly days with you. I’m sorry for what I’m about to do next.
He pushed you onto the lifeboat while you screamed his name. The ship split in half before soon sinking as well. Watching you being lowered to safety...had to be one of the happiest sights for him to see. Tears and all.

I’m freaking out about the implications of the ending of the new Fantastic Beasts film, and I’ve developed a somewhat far-fetched theory
WARNING: SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS. It’s like a three-year-old gallon of milk around here. Beware.
Do NOT click the link below if you haven’t seen The Crimes of Grindelwald film.
So Credence is supposedly a brother of Albus Dumbledore named Aurelius Dumbledore. We’re all still reeling from that one, but I think I may have an idea of how Jo’s going to make something that, timeline-wise, doesn’t really make sense, actually work out to be true.
But first, let’s lay out the possibilities with respect to this revelation.
Tumblr media
1. Credence is indeed Albus Dumbledore’s younger brother.
Issues: if he is a Dumbledore and is related to Albus through the blood of their father (which we will assume, since Kendra Dumbledore wasn’t born into, but married into, the Dumbledore family), then he would have had to have been conceived after their (and Aberforth and Ariana’s) father was already arrested and locked up in Azkaban for attacking the muggle boys who attacked Ariana. But Albus’ father supposedly died in Azkaban when he was young, and so by that timeline, Aurelius would be much older than Credence is.
2. Credence is a relative of Albus Dumbledore, but not his brother.
This seems the most likely case? After all, he does have the phoenix talent-connection-thingy, but then why would Grindelwald have told a little white lie in calling him Albus’ brother? It seems to me that Grindelwald tells big lies big time, but doesn’t waste energy on little ones. After all, why would calling him Albus’ long-lost brother make a particular difference to Credence than just calling him his long-lost uncle or cousin or what have you?? The emotional push Credence needs to follow Grindelwald (and remain in constant meltdown mode) is just to believe that his own blood family doesn’t love him and is trying to kill him (which, Albus isn’t, but Credence doesn’t know that).
3. Credence is no relative of Albus Dumbledore at all, and Grindelwald is lying.
A few things seem to support this.1) Timing. Credence is too young to have been born to either of Albus’ parents before they died. 2) What proof do we really have that Grindelwald isn’t lying, save for the phoenix bit? 3) On some level, it just seems TOO ironic and intertwined to believe that Dumbledore’s sibling was swapped with the Lestrange child who was Newt’s friend/childhood love’s brother. Too many coincidences here.
4. Credence is Aurelius, but somehow Aurelius was born into the Dumbledore family before Ariana’s abuse by the muggle boys when she was small. Potentially, Aurelius was sent away (maybe even without Albus or Aberforth knowing about him), but for some reason didn’t grow up in real time.
What could Jo cook up to make this happen? Initially, I thought “no idea”, but she’s already challenged what we think we know about the rules of magic PLENTY of times in these two movies--think obscurus for one, Nagini being a real person (!!) under a blood curse for two, and then the new development with Dumbledore and Grindelwald having taken a blood oath, which seems to be akin to an unbreakable vow, though possibly and probably deadlier, for three. (More on how she might achieve this later.)
But let me take a little detour to note a few interesting clues or holes that might be important in this discussion before I propose my (very untidy and underdeveloped) theory.
Who was Credence with on the ship before it sank? (And also, what was the ship that sank? Was this the Titanic or Lusitania or some other real-world sinking that Jo has appropriated, or is it just a generic ship that we can’t attach to real history?) We know that Leta had swapped her real genetic half-brother, Corvus Lestrange, an infant, with another baby (who turns out to be Credence). So when the ship sinks, the family that was in possession of Credence (whether actually his relatives or not) drowns with fake-Credence-who-is-actually-real-Corvus-Lestrange when their lifeboat capsizes. SO WHO ARE THEY? It looked like a black (??) woman in the brief shot that picked him up to take him from the crib, and then the woman (the same?? I don’t recall) swimming toward him when they’re drowning, and that’s pretty much all we know.
Tumblr media
Related to the Previous Thought:
Why does Corvus Lestrange (Leta and baby Corvus’ father--yes, they have the same name just to make things difficult) play a role in this film in supporting Grindelwald? We see him in the ministry at the beginning, taking the “job” that Newt won’t (i.e. going after Credence to kill him in Paris), but then later, he has a nice little chat with Grindelwald under a bridge where he informs Grindelwald that he killed the Lestrange nurse (WHY?), and that he is going to have a tough time with the Ministry officials for letting Credence “get away”. If, presumably, Corvus believed that the obscurial, Credence, was his son (we don’t, but it’s possibly a safe assumption), why would he be trying to help get him to Grindelwald? Maybe because he saw Grindelwald as a way to save his (or who he believes is) his child that he had adored? The important question, though, is: Does Corvus Lestrange (the father) know anything about Aurelius Dumbledore, and what role (if any) will he play for Grindelwald’s rise to power in the coming films?
This one’s a bit of a tangent, but I think it’s worth considering and investigating: I’m curious where Bathilda Bagshot is in all of this Dumbledore/Grindelwald business. We know that she introduced the two teenagers to each other all those years ago in Godric’s Hollow, and that Grindelwald was there because she was his great-aunt, whom he was visiting. Is it possible that Credence is actually part of Grindelwald’s family, not Dumbledore’s, and that Grindelwald lied to him because he’s going to use Credence against Dumbledore somehow in the midst of this shifty blood oath business? I don’t know if this question goes anywhere, but I think it’s worth asking if our favorite wizarding author (okay, maybe Hermione’s and mine, at least) and magical historian will make an appearance.
Tumblr media
Grindelwald and Dumbledore’s blood oath seems to be waving a red flag in our faces when it’s announced at the very end of the film, in literally the exact same scene, as Credence’s blood relation to Dumbledore is revealed. Somehow, Credence--or Aurelius, I should say, since none of us is convinced that they ARE, in fact, the same person--seems like he’s going to play a HUGE PART in Dumbledore figuring out how to break that blood oath, or in how Grindelwald is able to break it (OR maybe protect it in order to protect himself from Dumbledore??).
And lastly:
Aurelius is a Latin/Roman name, taken most famously from Marcus Aurelius, a Roman emperor and philosopher. It means “golden” or “gilded”--and this got me thinking. Maybe it isn’t significant, but Jo does love to play with names and she doesn’t pick them willy-nilly. Of course, the name fits with all the other ‘A’ Dumbledore siblings (Albus, Aberforth, Ariana), so that does suggest a hint of authenticity (or at least plausibility) to the existence of such a brother, but if he DOES exist--is that even Credence?
But then I noticed something else about the meaning in the name. Gold has to do with (it’s used in) ALCHEMY. The Sorcerer’s Stone can turn any metal into pure gold à la King Midas. D’you think somehow that Albus, in his involvement/partnership with Nicholas Flamel, found a way to keep his infant brother (see possibilities #1 and #3) alive for years without him aging??
OR, maybe there were only three Dumbledore siblings after all, but after Ariana’s “death”, Dumbledore found a way with Flamel to take her obscurus, and revive it as a new person, or, at the very least, attach it to a person (to form an obscurial)? Could Aurelius be a name that Albus Dumbledore gave to this child when they brought a part of Ariana back to life as a little boy? A child who was brought back to life through alchemy would make sense to have a name having to do with gold, for sure.
In fact, it would almost make even more sense, because perhaps Dumbledore’s alchemy partnership with Flamel was born from his interest in trying to bring his sister back after her death (and his heavy guilt over it), rather than the other way around.
Tumblr media
Finally, I have to ask a question here: Why the hell was Flamel in this movie in the first place? What real function did he serve? Jo could’ve pulled in any minor character--or made one up!--to throw in a place for a safehouse and have an extra wizard body to help stop the weird blue flames from destroying Paris in the end, so WHY PICK FLAMEL? It seems to me that he has yet to fully serve his purpose in this film series and that he will come back to haunt us (with a very old and zombie-like, and yet very real body) later in a more significant plot role.

Loki Imagine - Ready, Set, Past! [PART 1]
[PART 1] [PART 2]
WARNING: Infinity War Spoilers, character death, angst (I promise you, I’m not as evil as Marvel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your P.O.V.
‘‘I assure you, brother, the sun will shine on us again” Loki’s fragile yet sure voice said, filling our hearts with a little bit of hope. It’s like Loki had a plan to get us all away from this havoc and destruction, this ship that was full of death. Then Loki looked at me, his gaze making my weak and wounded body feel a bit better. He made me forget about the worst. Then I noticed his tears, threatening to spill any second now. Suddenly, I got a really bad feeling.
‘‘Loki-’‘ I breathed out his name but I was interrupted by harsh coughs that felt like they were ripping my throat apart.
I had barely any strength left in my body. Being stuck under someone’s spell didn’t help much either. I literally couldn’t move my body which made me feel so damn useless.
"I love you Y/N’’ Loki added, almost sobbing as he spoke. My gut twisted and for some reason, I just knew he’d do something dumb. I opened my mouth to return the deep and meaningful words but someone put a mouth gag to me, similar to the one Thor had. My heart began to hammer in my chest as I tried to wiggle myself free from this. It was impossible! Loki’s heart broke as he saw me like this, his expression revealed it all.
I just watched as Loki walked up to Thanos, hands behind his back as he did so. Seeing them so close had me really concerned. That monstrous man was truly evil. Loki had told me about him years ago and I learned what kind of sick and twisted torture he had put Loki through. Now we all knew what he was capable of, which was beyond frightening. He and his ‘children’ had destroyed this ship, killed off the Asgardians and Heimdall too. Now I feared for the rest of us too. And for Loki, it didn’t look too good. What the hell was he doing?
“I, Loki, Prince of Asgard” Loki sighed and glanced at his brother again. “Odinson” I heard him add. His voice was so sincere, so unlike the Loki we saw a while ago. He was showing his true emotions as if he sensed the worst was ahead of him. As his wife, I knew better than this. I gritted my teeth together and once again attempted to break free - only to fail miserably. I had to stop Loki from getting himself killed! I couldn’t watch that. I couldn’t imagine life without him.
“The rightful king of Jotunheim, God of Mischief... Do hereby pledge to you, my undying fidelity” Loki offered Thanos a helping hand but we all saw past that. Perhaps it was all a play but something about Loki’s words were mysterious. It felt like he knew exactly what he was doing like he had a solid plan. Then I noticed the sheer glimmer of his magic as he created a dagger. He was squeezing it so hard that his knuckles turned white. That’s how scared he was and it was painful to see.
Then the worst did, in fact, happen. Loki moved fast but not quite fast enough. He tried to stab Thanos, aiming for his head, but he was stopped. Thanos used the power of the infinity stones to stop Loki’s desperate attempt. He was trapped.
I yerked myself forward, trying to break free from this vicious spell so I could help him, but to no avail.
‘’No..’’ I whimpered, my voice muffled because of the metal that covered my mouth.
‘’Undying? You should choose your words more carefully..’’ Thanos muttered disappointedly and used his other hand to grab Loki by the neck. The dagger fell on the ground and Loki’s feet let go of it so they were up in the air. He kicked and writhed in a panic, trying to free himself from the grip of the very man who has ruined his life once before.
I could genuinely feel how my heart sank to the bottom of my stomach. My eyes widened in shock and pure terror. Thor and I were both trapped, forced to watch Loki struggling to breathe! ‘’L-Loki..’’ I cried now, not caring about the fact I was crying. No words could describe how rotten I felt as I didn’t do anything at all. I was just watching from the side as Loki was choking to death. I knew it didn’t actually take that much time, especially since I was the Goddess of time, but it felt like an eternity. None of my titles were useful now. I was waste, watching my life dying before me.
This was sick! It was so unfair!
His skin changed color, earning a lilac hue from the lack of oxygen. I saw cracked veins in Loki’s beautiful, now sorrowful jade eyes. Then I heard him pushing out his last words. ‘’You..will never..be a..god’’ Loki used his silver tongue, not showing his weakness nor fear at his last moment. He showed his hatred for Thanos, using words that definitely pissed off the titan. It did because I heard a cracking sound that sent shivers down my spine. It was disgusting! That was definitely Loki’s bones. A loud sob left my mouth and Loki’s body fell on the ground. Thanos has no respect nor mercy for what he did. It’s like he squished a bug. But Loki was way more than that! The hot tears blurred my vision and my entire body was trembling.
I couldn’t breathe!
He just lied there! Loki’s eyes had turned glass-like and he stared into emptiness. Now he saw beyond what I and any other living creature could see. He joined his warrior ancestors who too had died a brave death. Loki was with Frigga and they could gaze upon the never-setting sun that lit up the golden halls of Valhalla. He was safe.
He didn’t move. He didn’t breathe. I didn’t even sense a heartbeat! All that I noticed was a trail of blood running down along his face.
Just like that, Thanos and his crew left, making sure to wreck the ship before doing so. Both Thor and I broke free but now it was too late. I fell face-first on the ground but I didn’t waste a second as I crawled to Loki. As I reached his limp body, I collapsed on top of his chest. ‘’No..Loki..wake up’’ I coughed sadly, trying to hit his chest in hopes of resurrecting him. I got nothing.
‘‘Brother’‘ Thor’s voice was heartbreaking. He too was devastated. We just looked at each other, both upset and beyond broken from our loss. We didn’t need words to understand each other. Both Thor and I had loved Loki and losing him was harder than we thought possible. It didn’t feel real!
So I intertwined my fingers with Loki´s, holding onto his cold hand for dear life. My head rested on his chest and I cried and cried, quite uncontrollably. My cheek was pressed against the golden armor of his leather suit. Even that was cold but I didn’t care. Nothing could ever fix my heart after this. ‘’You..s-shouldn’t..have..have done that...Loki’’ I coughed some words. I knew Loki couldn’t hear me. He was gone!
Loki was dead.
And I had just watched it happen.
The guilt was eating me alive. No matter how hard I tried to get closer to him, no matter how hard I tried to take in his scent of his cologne and the leather of his clothes one last time, nothing eased the horrible, heart-shattering pain.
Nothing.
Then the last of this wrecked ship got destroyed. I felt how everything began to tremble wildly and the next thing I knew, a hot flash blew me away. A huge explosion finished what Thanos had started and everything I knew turned dark. Oh, how I wished I had died so I could be with the love of my life forever. I didn’t want to carry on without him.
“Wake!” A rather sweet voice brought me back to reality. My eyes opened slowly and the first thing I noticed was the pair of black eyes above me. I didn’t recognize the face of this strange woman. She had black hair, antlers, and an overall a curious look on her face. ‘‘What the hell?’‘ I whispered and hurried to sit up. I was on a table of some sort. Then I saw a window, revealing to me where I was.
I was in a spaceship.
It’s like lighting struck me. All the awful memories of what had happened crashed my mind and sucked away my hope, replacing it with devastation that felt like hot lava inside my body. Loki was gone.
‘‘I am Groot’‘ A very odd voice caught my attention. It had been a very long time since I heard someone speaking Groot the last time. Although I was ready to jump out that window, I didn’t. I saw a tree in front of me with some sort of a game in his hand. ‘‘I am Groot’‘ He asked me of my name. Then a raccoon joined his side. ‘‘Sorry, that’s all he says-’‘ the raccoon tried to explain things but I simply cut him off.
‘‘I’m Y/N, Goddess of Time, order and all that bullshit’‘ I told them who I was with such a blunt voice it was just sad. For an Asgardian, I was very dull. Right now, I couldn’t find the will to present myself nicely. Not like this, after everything that happened. The woman with antlers pouted at me.
‘‘You are sad’‘ She noticed the elephant in the room. Of course, I was sad! A part of me wanted to yell at her but I knew she wasn’t the bad guy. Well, I had no idea who these people were. One of them was green, one of them was just a huge muscle and the last one had a red jacket and a very human appearance to him.
‘‘Where’s Thor?’‘ I asked them, remembering the last Asgardian I had seen alive. Unless he had died in the explosion. I didn’t even want to think about it.
‘‘That big muscly guy over there?’‘ The man in a red jacket asked me, pointing towards Thor’s body. He was asleep as well, looking peaceful. As I saw him, my heart clenched. Soon he would wake up too and remember all the terrible things that had happened. He would remember Loki. Just as I thought about him, fresh tears rolled down my face. I couldn’t disguise them. It was just too hard. I lost my other half, my soulmate, my everything. It’s like Thanos had cut me in half and burnt the other part away.
‘‘Let him sleep a bit longer, okay?’‘ I requested them quietly. Seeing Thor awake would be horrible. He was always so happy. Seeing Thor sad was just going to make this more real.
‘‘Mind telling us what happened?’‘ The Raccoon asked me and jumped on the table, crossing his arms now as he waited for an answer. I just stared at him coldly, trying to find the words to tell them about what I lived through. It felt so unfair that I survived but so many died. Asgard was gone.
‘‘Thanos’‘ I managed to say one word only. Then a sob followed so I covered my mouth with both hands.
This was too difficult to deal with.
All of a sudden, the green lady stepped forward. She sat down beside me and took a deep breath. ‘’He did that to your ship, didn’t he?’’ She sighed quietly. I just nodded, unaware of how she knew of Thanos. But she did and I hoped they could help Thor and me. We could bring an end to this madness. ‘’I’m Gamora’’ She introduced herself to me. That’s when I dared to face her. There was something familiar about her but right now, I wasn’t in a good enough state to think. My brain wasn’t working well. It’s like one moment was stuck on replay in my head.
‘‘You were holding onto this when we found you. Is it important?’‘ The antler girl handed me something. She was holding a folded, green cape in her hands. Loki’s cape.
‘‘Oh my God,’‘ I whimpered and took it from her hand immediately. The silky material was the only thing left of him that I had. It took me no time to unfold it and something fell out. I heard the object hitting the floor but it didn’t make a huge noise. So I looked down and the golden chest piece from his leather clothes. So of course, I picked that up as well before hugging his cape. ‘‘Loki’‘ I sobbed as I noticed his scent was still attached to it. I didn’t care that these people saw my broken state. I would hug this cape and look like a lunatic, I didn’t mind. ‘‘Thank you’‘ I whispered quickly before trying to take a deep breath. It wasn’t much but it was better than nothing. I’d hold onto this cape like it was my baby. It was the most precious thing I owned now. To make things fair, I’d give Thor the chest piece. I had a feeling he wouldn’t complain.
‘‘There’s only two of you here, the other guy is Thor..oof, is Loki dead?’‘ The big guy asked me. I didn’t lift my gaze but I heard someone slapping him and he muttered a small ‘ow’.
‘‘Drax, are you kidding me?’‘ The red jacket man whisper-yelled.
‘‘I’m sorry about them. That’s Drax, he’s Peter, this is Groot, Rocket, she’s Mantis’‘ Gamora told me all of their names. She seemed to understand my pain. ‘‘We heard your call but it was too late, we’re sorry’‘ She was quick to apologize as well.
‘‘Why should you be sorry?’‘ I asked her, clearing my throat to find my voice again. I had cried and screamed so much that my voice had gotten hoarse.
Before Gamora could reply, Mantis woke Thor up. I stood up and looked at Thor who jumped off the table and tried to grab a weapon. Luckily, he didn’t get one. Thor noticed me and he froze. At first, I saw his confusion. Thor noticed the cape I was holding onto and then I saw the pain in his expression. He remembered too. ‘’Who the hell are these guys?’’ Thor asked out loud, probably expecting an answer from me but clearly, I wouldn’t be the one to answer it. Although I knew their names, I knew nothing more of them. For all that I knew, they could be bad although they did save Thor and me.
“We are the guardians of the galaxy”
Somehow, Thor managed to calm down enough to listen to these people. We learned that Gamora was Thanos’ daughter but it was complicated. She was apparently the opposite of the titan. Thor and I didn’t really have a choice. We had to be here until someone came up with a plan. For now, we got some food so we could restore our energy. Although we hadn’t spoken of it yet, we were both thinking about one thing. The tremendous loss that we carried.
“Y/N?’‘ Thor called out my name. He sat on my opposite and I saw his feet because I was staring at the floor, too tired to lift my gaze.
‘‘Yes?’‘ I sighed, taking a sip of my drink as I waited to hear what he had to say.
‘‘Can you..see the future? How this will turn out?” Thor wanted to know. He sounded a bit careful, which was unlike him. That’s when I faced the king of Asgard, which could very well mean he was my king only. The realization was just terrible. I looked deep into his eye, almost grudging at the thought of letting him down.
“I haven’t seen anything of the future. Not since..since..” The rest of that sentence was left unspoken. I couldn’t bring myself to say Loki was dead. I just couldn’t. “All I can see is the past’‘ I whispered deeply but it was also the truth. It seemed like my powers forbid me of seeing the future anymore. Perhaps it was a sign? I had no future? Or I had to dive into the past.
Thor narrowed his one eye and seemed to truly think about what I said. That’s when the raccoon that Thor had called a rabbit decided to join us. ‘‘So, you got a plan?’‘ Rocket wanted to know. He seemed to like Thor quite a bit which was kind of cute.
“I need a hammer” Thor declared surely. Of course, he needed a hammer. “I have a plan” Thor then continued and I swear, I could almost see a lightbulb above his head.
‘‘Please, let me hear it’‘ I was all ears. If we could stop Thanos, I would do anything. Nothing could stop me for I had nothing to lose. I just watched as Thor got up on his feet and searched the small spaceship.
‘‘I’m getting my hammer’‘ He started as he walked over to what seemed like their pod. Did he seriously plan on just taking it? Well, of course, it was Thor.
“What are you doing?’‘ One of them asked Thor.
“Taking your pod” Thor was very honest about what he was doing. All I could do was stare at him in disbelief. It was so damn typical of him. I could almost hear Loki’s fake-disappointed sigh but of course, he wasn’t here. Goosebumps covered my skin and my pain came crashing back. It felt like Loki stood right beside me. The feeling was so real, so true that I didn’t want to look. Maybe I was mad but I could just imagine he was there for now. It was better than the truth.
“Y/N. Come on. Let’s go to Nivadellir” Thor revealed his master plan to me. At first, I was unsure but as I remembered that he got his hammer from there, it didn’t sound too crazy anymore. But first, we’d have to convince these people to give us their pod. Anything to stop Thanos, right?
Turned out we got company. It was easier than I thought to get going but here we were, flying around space in a pod with a tree and a talking raccoon. I just hoped Thor’s plan would work out. Since I wasn’t capable of using my powers fully after everything, I couldn’t even look in the future to see if it was a good idea. I wondered exactly how weak I had gotten. It’s like losing Loki drained me from everything.
“I promise you, my love, I’ll do the right thing. For you” I whispered quietly as I looked at the window. The stars were beautiful, scattered all across the universe around us. Everything seemed so peaceful from here but there was a story wherever I looked. Loki too was somewhere out there. And my soul was longing for him like the thirsty longed for water.

[PART 2]
Author’s Note: Okay I know this is off to a sad start but please have some faith in it. Thoughts so far? I’m trying to base this on a few theories I have. Of course, it won’t be exactly like the theories but well..you’ll see

Blogger’s Note: I’ll apologize ahead of time for the fact that while I’ve seen this movie a few times, it’s not old enough to have gained my refined eye… With the other movies, I’ve fit them into my Episode narrative and every time I watch them, it’s with more attention on a different aspect. Rogue One is not even a year old yet- so I’m not as familiar but here goes! To borrow a phrase from my favorite show on TV now, “Let’s Rock!”
What They Did Right: This is the first anthology film. This has never been done before in Star Wars. If this movie sucked then it’s unlikely more anthology movies would follow. I think it’s pretty well done, especially the end half. It’s nostalgic and exciting, and heart wrenching at the same time. I think it’s funny that there’s a meme out there that said, “Pictures released from Rogue One’s sequel” with pictures from A New Hope. There are many layers to the hilarity because A New Hope was the FIRST Star Wars film, and this comes directly before it. Another thing is that people were like, “Don’t spoil the ending.” And I’m like, “If you’ve seen A New Hope, you already know how it ends. Were you shocked when you watched TITANIC and the ship sank?” now, granted- you wouldn’t know what became of the characters, but that’s its own thing. Moving on…
They introduce you to the heroic team that got the Death Star plans to Princess Leia. You see all they went through to get the plans, and what people went through in the Rebellion- how there was hesitation and disagreement between the members of the Council. (I also think it’s interesting that they call it the Council which has a Jedi-like feel).
Baze and Chirrut! I loved them.
K-2SO was like a talking version of R2-D2 mixed with Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory with Han Solo’s snarky-ness.
While we know we’re watching something that takes place A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away; this movie had a real-world depiction of war so you get why it’s important to destroy the Death Star and the Empire a little more than just by watching the Episodes.
Seeing Bail Organa and Mon Mothma in this movie- just before Bail Organa goes home only to be blown up when the Death Star is used… It has a twinge of irony…
While it’s not the typical Star Wars film- it’s not an episode of the Skywalker Family Drama; it still feels like it belongs in the same universe.
Even though I have to say I didn’t care for the music as much in this one- I still liked it a lot. I liked the nods to the Force theme or the Imperial March that were put in there in the right scenes.
Seeing Darth Vader. He is just awesome and it gives me chills seeing him.
That scene where the Rebels on board the ship are desperately passing the hard-drive/ disk from person to person to get it to Princess Leia on the Tantive 4. Vader is just chopping them down- and it shows him as this angry person driven by hatred and purpose. Once Jyn started to change her opinion towards the Rebels, I was with her. We got to see Vader’s awesome lava planet castle. Even though it didn’t have subtitles for this one planet- we know it to be Mustafar which I’ve talked about in several of my theory posts. We see him chilling in a bacta tank- and even though its hard to see, we get a shot of his scarred head sort of like in The Empire Strikes Back when he’s in his meditation chamber. We see him Force Choke Krennic for a while until Krennic falls on the floor. We can see that he’s still feeling the effects of it later on. It’s good that they used Vader sparingly since Anakin/Vader has been in every movie either in body or in spirit (I’m talking about Kylo Ren having Vader’s helmet and the lightsaber Rey brings to Luke was Anakin’s lightsaber which Obi-Wan gave to Luke which Luke lost when Vader cut off his arm in Empire.) He’s so iconic that having him in it seemed natural. That whole last half of the film gave me chills and I remember that I watched it with my friends, Hannah and David- I was totally geeking out in my chair, hands impulsively clapping excitedly on my leg, and we’d share looks of delight. The ending was so sad, and tragic- but sort of joyous in a way. It definitely made me appreciate A New Hope a little more- that’s for sure. We see Tarkin. I don’t know why but recognizing his foul stench made me happy… When I read the novel and the novel that’s meant as a prequel to the movie Catalyst, it helped the movie make a little more sense and I was actually more invested in the characters. I thought it was funny that the team and the movie are named Rogue One- and in Empire, we see a pilot rescue Han and Luke- his call sign, he says- is Rogue Two… (that was a second-time- watching revelation). There was something fresh about this film, and it was very interesting to watch. — What They Did Wrong A lot of these are probably ones you’ve heard before, but I happen to agree with the complaints or comments that others have made regarding this film. The first act is a little slow. While I think the scene on Eadu provides Jyn much needed emotional closure, it is sort of anticlimactic from a dramatic point of view. Jyn is a passive protagonist until the last part of the movie, and sometimes her reactions aren’t those of what would happen logically in that circumstance. We’re sort of dropped into her life as an adult after seeing her as a kid. She’s in prison and we don’t exactly find out why until later. She is really angry with The Rebels but we can tell she doesn’t agree with the Empire either. We however don’t really know what she DOES believe in. We’re never told or shown. A lot of the end is really depressing. (But I expected that honestly) Bor Gullet and the whole thing surrounding him. Bodhi defects and brings the message- Saw doesn’t believe him and then after exposing him to Bor Gullet, he still doesn’t believe Bodhi- so all we really know is that Saw Gerrara doesn’t trust people… not that I blame him…
Krennic’s callousness towards Galen and his family. I know he’s an Imperial officer, but Galen was one of his friends back in the day and Krennic used him, and took credit for a lot of the things Galen did… then he has Galen’s wife, Lyra shot… I don’t know- something about that bothered me for more than one reason. The whole trip to Jedha seemed a little pointless or anticlimactic and it feels like they botched the mission. First, they got captured by the Imperials and then by Saw’s people. When the actual message is lost and Jyn tells the team what it said, Cassian doesn’t believe her. The whole mission to kill Galen Erso seemed a little (for lack of a better word), mean. Sure, he helped develop the Death Star and its weapon, but he didn’t commission it, and he didn’t use it on anyone… and killing him seems a little harsh… I know Cassian didn’t end up killing him, but still- he died, and it seemed extremely unfeeling and callous to kill Jyn’s father with her in their group. And then it’s like he’s mad at her for being upset with him… Everyone is so against Jyn when she gives them the fatal flaw in the Death Star’s design. They don’t believe her and they chicken out… funny enough- it DOES sort of line up to many characters’ arcs-especially in Star Wars- so I guess I can live with it, and I get why they’d be skeptical. Most of the time, the hero ignores or pushes away their call to action. When Obi-Wan tried to get Luke to go with him in Episode 4, Luke initially refused and then changed his mind when his aunt and uncle died at the hands of the Empire. Rey wouldn’t take the lightsaber when Maz offered it to her… Over all, I think it’s main flaw is just that it’s long and the first half is long and almost uneventful when you consider the last half of the movie is jam-packed with action, adventure, emotion, and resolution to the main plot. All this being said, I appreciate Episode 4 more now, and I am excited for this new set of anthology films coming out. I think we will learn so much more about our favorite saga!
