It's HARD to Live your life dimming your light for so long, Trying to fit into the molds of society, of people around you, of safety and survival. I never even knew it was survival to fit in. But then I thought about it 👇🏼 When I was little, I knew my dad didn't want me. He wanted a boy. Someone to play football with, to coach, to play sports with, fish, hunt, etc. Do "man things." He was so excited when my brother was born. SO excited. I remember being a pre-teen, and I looked at what the boys wore. ✅ Baggy graphic t-shirts ✅ Jean shorts ✅ Nike tennis shoes ✅ Bulky, dark sports watches I'd slick my hair back into a tight ponytail. I paid attention to what he liked to do, to watch, etc. I took up watching football on Saturdays and Sundays. (And if you know me now, developed an obsession for it!) I started going out to the garage to hang out with him while he lifted weights and made new fishing lures out from scratch. I learned to be one of the guys. 🌟 Survival. 🌟 And I did this all my life. But there comes a time when 🔥 THAT MOLD BREAKS 🔥 And you start to realize who you really are vs what you've used to get by. For me? That was realizing that I don't belong to anyone, anywhere. I belong to myself. I don't have to worry anymore about outgrowing people, Because if I'm meant to outgrow them then that's okay. The last time I saw my mom Was on my wedding day. (It makes that day a little bit more special knowing that.) And to be honest, I knew something was wrong. My intuition and I didn't have the connection we do now, But there was something.. yanno? Even the smallest spark trying to come to fruition. So when I got the call the first time that she was on her way to the hospital, I honestly wasn't surprised. And that's when the roller coaster began. The ups and the downs of moods and medications, The ins and the outs of ICU and rehabs, The endless phone calls, Talks with doctors, Family updates, Sleepless nights, Etc, etc, etc. Being the eldest kid, it was a lot of pressure. Being the daughter added even more. Society expects you to just be okay. To deal. To carry the weight of it all. But that's not how it works. I was fucking terrified when my mom died. I immediately felt like an orphan. I felt like I was standing in a room full of people as a 4 year old girl, Screaming as loud as I could, And nobody could hear me. It was so lonely. Just another example of my safety + security that had been ripped from me so many times before in my life. I was terrified. I walked in fear for months afterward - afraid of who else was going to leave me. And others did. Many, in fact. But the longer I got quiet, my intuition started to get louder. And louder. And louder. Out of all this, the one that didn't leave me. So, I finally started listening. And cultivating. And strengthening. Fixing the relationship we once had. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 10/10 happens to be a powerful portal. I had no idea at the time. It also happens to be my divorce anniversary. I dreaded the day, to be quite honest. I was so horrified to be another statistic. I was being stripped of my identity as a military spouse and all that came with it - including friends. The isolation was real. But I had no idea the power I was walking into. 4 years ago today - 1460 days - I walked out of that courthouse smiling from ear to ear. I still remember the security guard remarking, "I've never seen anyone in this place so happy." I couldn't control it. It just felt SO natural. The wave of beauty, amazement, confidence, power - It was unlike anything I'd ever felt before. It was the day I started stepping into my power. UNPOPULAR OPINION: We're focused too much on the word "healing." (I feel so many people going 😤😤😤 right now.) HERE ME OUT 👇🏼 Broken things heal. And they're never the same after that. In fact, they can break even easier the next time they're put in a tough or fragile situation. But us? We're NOT broken. Thus, we don't NEED to heal. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I blew my own mind when I had this revelation, Because I've talked for two years+ about my own "healing journey!" So, what TF do we actually do instead?! We consciously choose to take our experiences and EVOLVE. EXPAND. Our minds. Our bodies. Our hearts. Our consciousness. But only if we choose. A broken bone is going to heal almost regardless. But we have to CHOOSE to evolve and expand. It's also why you don't need anyone to save you. (Another unpopular opinion in this society) Because you have the tools to save your damn self. It's just a matter of if you're going to choose to use them or not. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ When you reframe your life to look like the hero of your own story, Instead of the underdog in society, You're making the choices to increase your self-confidence.. maybe without even realizing it.
