Van Gogh's Dream

He was there, and laid out before him

that "ribbon of moonlight" track ahead *1

It disappeared with the increasing distance

Into a 'lGallery of Infinity' instead.

As an artist he had to restrain his chaotic brush strokes

whilst his industrious palette dripped more exotic colours...

His imagination, although only illuminated by a single candlelit lamp

yielded the muted and monochrome he savours

The moon however was omnipresent and floodlit

the perilous journey ahead which would be "touch and feel".

Tree-clad mountains and deep cut river valleys.

all appeared impressionistic, and ever so slightly, surreal.

The sky was alive with planetary movement

a fascination even for the curious Van Gogh...

He no longer felt part of an imaginative dream but

the creator of a universal studio of his own, where his art was enough!

In such a special starlit studio

Van Gogh's artistic vision began to stir

Colours became so much more than just shades of black and white

but movement was vibrant in the sky both near and far.
